Id eat at this campfire and pay for a seat any time.. Good job. Those things will last you a lifetime. Dutch oven was a treasured item in pioneers house.
@fuzzynippleman Cast iron spreads heat evenly. Before it burns it is spreading the heat throughout the whole pan and lid. This system is okay for your home but heavy if you are traveling. The rack for storage of the pans etc. could have been made from tree
branches just as easily and you can burn them too.
@jamesryanphoto Steel tools are fine used with cast iron. This isn't your teflon coated pan at home. The iron is seasoned with oil and heat. Ask your grandparents about cast iron.
@danny2425able Well I found him at a civil war renactment in brooksville florida he has been threre every year, he is out of west vigenria. I moved out of state not sure where im going to get my shit now. I'm going to try my local civil war renactment. Sorry thats all I can give you.
TOOOOOOOOO much flame on your cooking fire. I bet you burned the shit out of the botton of your bread. I have gotten great results from a thick layer of COALS above and below the dutch oven.
@fuzzynippleman Nope it didn't burn at the end of the video you can see what the bread looks like. We have cooked it like this about 10 times sence we made this video Had it burn a little on top but nexr on the bottom. We have now moved into a cabin and we have an old cast iron wood burning oven will be making a video using that soon. Tonight we are cooking deer meat and beans and baking beer bread all using wood.
<<<<<20 years in Florida, And I know how to BBQ, cook in the woods, camp in creepy places, bugs, snakes, gators. All that. Now I'm back in New York Upstate. Need to learn how, with all that good wrought iron wear.
Good to see you yanks learning how to cook over an open fire, cos some day when some other country is fed up with the american gov trying to rule the world , they gona nuke your ass and every yank will be cooking like this, muslims with a small nuke insida a briefcase , or china sneeking up on the coast of america and firing a missile , it will happne some day and you all need to know how to live of the flatened land you call america. lol God bless the american ppl but Fk your gov .
Nice set of irons. My #14 Dutch oven is a workhorse. I've used it to make a roast beef dinner, 3 gallons of cowboy beans, and the cover is large enough to do pancakes, while you eggs, bacon and sausage in the pot. After cooking the eggs and meats, I can toss in the sliced taters, and everything is table ready. Lest I forget, you have a great family who loves to cook together.
Please tell me what the brand name is on the cast iron oven used to make your bread, I have been trying to find one for over 6 months and the only thing I find is the pan,no lid. Noticed another person asked same question but didn't see where you responded. Also, let me know where I can purchase. Thanks
Its very good to place an aluminum ( very thick) plate under the oven, for heat distribution,, Aluminum conducts heat more than 3 times better than cast iron.
does that uncle jesse have a sutler website. What are the lengths of the grate and the cross bars holding the pans and utensils? I,m a reenactor myself, but cant find any cooking equipment that size.
Turn that commie bastard off. No doubt in my mind, the channel was turned to CNN. Us rednecks need to stick together if we want our children and grandchildren to enjoy the freedoms that we have. God Bless America and strong families like yours.
just a thought when baking your bread,to check if its done in the centre.Run a wooden skewer down inside if it comes out dry its not doughy in the middle

Ray Mears say "if your roughing it ... Your doing it wrong" you guys are Doing it right! That Is a nice setup . I'll have a dutch oven ASAP ! Great setup !
Just a couple of things we do, coat the inside of the bread oven with flour and the bread won't stick. Get hold of a straw hand broom to clean the coals and dust of the top of the ovens before opening. The stew looked a little dry , we would normally fry the onions garlic, then add the meat ,fry that then add the vegs and season.
It all looked good, I like your gear but a bit bulky to carry for us. Keep up the good work.
thanks for posting this. I just purchased some hiking gear and am going to start learning how to hike fish and camp. But I love to cook ! and I really want to make camp cooking a Big part of camping. So when I saw this i was so happy to know I can really get down with the cooking :) I can't wait to hear the bacon wrapped shrimp and some rib eye's sizzling over the fire !!
Don't use a metal spoon with a cooking pot; use one made from wood, plastic or silicone instead. Metal utensils like spoons and spatulas can scratch a non-stick surface, or cause copper or aluminum to erode away.
""I'm using a cast iron pot so this dose not apply.""
Well Gene is a Jew Right and it seems these days that the southern people are more Christian. I'll say right now it would be the south but back in the day when everyone was Christian who knows?
@jamesryanphoto Can you please tell me what brand is the cast iron bread pan with lid is. I have been looking for one for over 6 months and cannot find one. Plenty out there without the lid. Also, If you know where I can purchase one please let me know. Noticed someone else asked this question but, didn't see any response from you. Thanks

I love a stew cooked in a Dutch Oven. But the bread was even better! Big dab of butter and it's heaven on earth!
jamesryan, back off. This is 'CAST IRON' and no need to worry about utensils being used, so I gave you a thumbs down.
