I was given this as a gift as well. But get this, I thought it was terrible as a kid! I mean, after you watched it go in circles, that was it. The claws were just like plastic "scissors" and were useless to pick up anything. Remco made great things like the Barracuda Submarine, and then they made crummy things like this! Much more fun as an adult collectible than it was as a kid trying to play with it. My parents took it back and got me something else! I had the red and black one as well.
@ToyKingWonder Ok.. so it was lame! But it was the 60s/70s! I just loved mine. I sure ate away at batteries! But that's what Radio Shack battery club was for! Mine was black body and track with red legs and arms.
@pghenry I am probably being too harsh on it, and I will probably end up with one. Good Lord, look at my name! Of course, I was also stuck with the Remco Kennedy Airport, and that was one I DIDN'T make my parents return... The Airport makes this robot look like toy of the century!
My family was also poor, like practically everyone else in our neighborhood, but my dad did not sit around guzzling 6-paks after work like my friends' dads, so I got the robot. When I was a kid my friends didn't have much mainly because their parents spent what money they did have on cigarettes and beer and the kids lost out. I also had a Jimmy Jet, Vacuum Maker, Crusader 101... almost every year I got 1 really cool toy because my parents put us first.
It kind reminds me of the B9 from the Anti-matter reality.

I wanted that toy so bad at Christmas. I never got it. It was too expensive. My folks did not have much money.
