this project is a monument for the perils of stupidity of chinese politicians.
they are putting 300 million people at risk of another dam collapse (the biggest in the world was in China, killing 200.000 people in 1975, Banquiao).
they have forced relocation of 1.6 million, talking away the land of another 20 million. those people live now in poverty, without perpectives. China is the country of a mad regime which has no brain and acts like a psychopath.
@bstreetbstreet I think WY meant the millions of people living on 10 dollars a month of government subsidy because they can't fish or use the waterways for transport as they used to. The dam is also not generating electricity at capacity, and it is exacerbating drought conditions on the lower reaches.
So far it has failed to improve the lives it promised to (no extra power, very little subsidy, water restrictions) and caused wildlife extinction as well as toxins in the watertable, need I go on?
governments are soo foolish of placing dams. it is no advancement and no one seems to care about those two million people, forrest and thousands and millions of animals and fishes.
@jodonalds do you mean those millions of people who lived in third world conditions and had no defence against yearly floods which destroyed property and killed people on an annual basis, clearly the damn isn't IDEAL, however China is not a nation short of land, so I think a relatively small area of forest, and some population relocation disruption in the name of development and safety is not a bridge too far,

Either this dam is going to burst and create massive flooding or not at all. But seriously, they need to fix this problem. I can't believe what Im seeing.
