@lbanoff If not for the increasing number of illegals in this country (Boxing is mostly populated with Mexicans and Blacks) The ONLY reason that Boxing might make more PPV buys than MMA is because of the crapshoot of Boxing organizations that are out there. As of this very moment there are 6 men holding the same title of Heavyweight Champ.
@supermanjones52 MMA is pure and untainted with the corruption and "fluffed" fighters (Unlike Boxing MMa fighters careers arent coated with plugged with simple wins over stepping stones fighters. A boxer may be 30-0 and not faced anyone worth shit) AND if you want a real life example of what happens when a pure boxer aces a MMA artist look no further than the Randy Couture VS. James Toney fight. LEARN YOUR FACTS BEFORE SPEWING SHIT!
boxing vs mma is a street fight. boxing woulod kill the mma fighter in a street fight. no afence. its been proven that boxing can handle multiple people and beat there ass with there mighty fists. the mma today is a joke. look up on youtube that people who use boxing always fuck up people. people never use mma gay shit on mulyiple people becasue it doesn't work for shit.
okay let me just answet the question of who would win in a fight... boxer or mma fighter. if you search for james toney vs randy couture.. i'm sure you will ifnd the answer
@southernantivirus dud stfu.. so jiujitsu or judo are so stupid because they cannot punch? are you a fucking retarded? different sports have different rules,, learn to respect mother fucker.
Yup, Mayweather is a talker and a runner. I'm a Pacquiao fan, by the way. I like both sports, boxing and MMA - but in either or any sport for that matter, I hate boring fights. Now I just think there's just more interesting MMA fights than boxing fights, maybe because of the multi-dimensionality of MMA. I think Mayweather and boxing obviously just isn't as popular as it once was and not like how MMA is right now, and so like any old dog who can't bite anymore would do - all they do is bark.
People who like boxing like it because it's graceful stylistic and interesting. Great fights have an eb and flow and both fighters have equal opportunity to win. MMA on the other hand usually end when someone is being choked in a sadistic uneventful way.
why the hell you comparing mma to boxing, boxing takes more atheletisism and mma is atheletic but mostly fighting you cant compare the 2 and you can go around saying mma fighters would smash up boxers cause they simply wont on some will.
Boxing and mma= apples and oranges! Both different so take ur pick. I personally prefer boxing/k1 cuz I lyk stand up fights. Other people may prefer gappling on the ground which I find boring n change the channel. Lyk I said "apples n oranges"
The thing is boxers competed at the start of the UFC events, When did the biathalon or cross country skiing ever face one another ? Its funny that they only bring up separation of sport after they get their asses handed to them.
I wasn't referring to the superiority of the athletes... obviously a boxer is worse at MMA than a mixed martial artist.
I was referring to the entertainment value of the sports themselves. I myself prefer MMA but I don't go around shitting on people who prefer boxing.
And to answer your rhetorical question - Always. Everyone who competes in the biathalon is also a cross country skier. Do you know what the biathalon is? it's a combination of cross country skiing and shooting. Weird, huh?
The difference is the boxers competed as pure boxers in MMA events, can you compete as a pure cross country skier in a biathalon ? And Im not talking about athletic superiority, but the effectiveness of the disciplines themselves. Boxing along with every other discipline got its ass kick by BJJ. That was until people started combining disciplines and beat out BJJ. MMA is the most Proven sport out of all the unarmed combat sports.
A pure cross country skiier would certainly lose a biathalon if he couldn't fire a rifle... but does that make the biathalon a "better" event? not necessarily.
I wouldn't argue with you about the effectiveness of the disciplines, though. We're actually in agreement there. My original comment was about the entertainment value of the sports. That's a relative judgement that can't be proven.
i dont think they jneed to compete with each other. they are very differet sports and there's room for both. personally i find MMA uninteresting. Wathcing guys lay around on the floor in leg-locks is not for me. bute hey, whetever floats yr boat.
MMA and boxing is totally different. If an MMA guy fight a boxer, we all know the boxer will loose due to it's limitation. In fact a boxer may not even do to well when it comes to a real fight becuase there is no referee to pull them apart in a clinch. The boxer is only effective when they are on their feet.
streetfight? who said anything about a streetfight mma is nothing of the sort it is a true art in everyway it req peek physical conditioning not to metion the mental side of it boxing is also a art and there should be no debating about whats better as they are so diffrent a mma fighter will always beat a boxer in a mma match the same as a boxer would beat a mmartist in a boxing match
What are you talking about ? What Top 10 fighters ? HEAVYWEIGHT DIVISION (up to 265 LBS.) 1. Fedor Emelianenko 2. Josh Barnett 3. Brock Lesnar 4. Frank Mir 5. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira 6. Randy Couture 7. Brett Rogers 8. Andrei Arlovski 9. Cane Velasquez 10. Alistair Overeem Butterbean never beat any of them.
That's kind of a weird top 10 to me. No JDS? No Carwin?
Regardless, your point stands. The best guy butterbean ever beat was James Thompson, the guy promotions bring in specifically to lose to their b-level stars.
@Fernt I didnt make the list, its from MMA news. Here is the Sherdog list. 1. Fedor Emelianenko (31-1, 1 NC) 2. Brock Lesnar (4-1) 3. Frank Mir (13-4) 4. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (32-5-1, 1 NC) 5. Brett Rogers (10-1) 6. Josh Barnett (24-5) 7. Junior dos Santos (9-1) 8. Andrei Arlovski (15-7) 9. Cain Velasquez (7-0) 10. Shane Carwin (11-0) Josh Barnett should be removed IMO.

shut up kid i was in boxing and now some mixed martial arts, and everryone that doesnt sit on there ass all day and act tough over the internet know s that a box can take out most mixed martial arts
"and everryone that doesnt sit on there ass all day and act tough over the internet know s that a box can take out most mixed martial arts"
History would have to disagree with you. The decisions of today's top boxers not to accept challenges from fighters who are nobodies in MMA also implies the same. Boxing makes up maybe 20% of a MMArtist's game. MMA is real fighting, boxing is not. Real fighters win real fights.
I like MMA but I will always like boxing more. Boxing is far from dead. UFC 105 was free because there was no way more people were gonna buy that the same night as Pacquiao vs. Cotto. UFC tried to compete vs. Mayweather vs. Marquez (both were PPV) but Mayweather vs. Marquez prevailed. If boxing was on as much as MMA... MMA wouldn't stand a chance but boxing isn't promoted as well as it used to be.
"If boxing was on as much as MMA... MMA wouldn't stand a chance but boxing isn't promoted as well as it used to be."
Actually more and more people are finding it difficult to go back to boxing after watching MMA which allows kicks, knees, elbows, wrestling and grappling, in addition to just punching.
boxing requires lots of skill but a real MMA fighter knows about it, i practive JKD myself and i've been trough a lot boxing , MMA too, they train lots of disciplines while boxers simply stay training box, so when a kick comes they just dont even know what to do , on the other hand MMA really knows what to do when the punch comes, i dont even know why is there even such a discussion , when both sides know MMA ftw :D

would you agree if an mma fighter and boxer trains 6 months to learn as much about the other sport that a boxer would be more successful in the ufc, wec, pride etc than an mma fighter would be in a boxing match? its proven that stand up fighters are successful in the mma there's not that much stuff a boxer needs to learn to be good in mma. but an mma fighter and not learn to take 3 times more punches he takes on an mma match.
"an mma fighter and boxer trains 6 months to learn as much about the other sport that a boxer would be more successful in the ufc, wec, pride etc than an mma fighter would be in a boxing match?"
No. With only 6 months to learn the ground game theres no way a boxer could ever survive in MMA. It takes years to get down part of the ground game, and defending against takedowns successfully seems to take many more years of xp. A MMArtist on the other hand already has years of boxing experience.
"its proven that stand up fighters are successful in the mma there's not that much stuff a boxer needs to learn to be good in mma."
Actually a boxer still needs to learn roughly 80% of what is involved in MMA, including what to do in the clinch, using elbows, knees and kicks, and learning a shitload of wrestling and jui-jitsu which each take much longer than boxing to become proficient at. The MMArtist on the other hand only needs to improve on something he's already been learning for years.
Wow, you're funny! How is learning how to punch AND kick LESS skills than just punching??? It is more than one skill, right? let me see, punching is ONE skill, and kicking is TWO skills! Hey look! I can count! now you need to learn to count as well. Maybe this will be easier for you...
i kinda agree with you even though im on the mma side. its easier to create holes and strike using kicks. but when all you have is fists and big ass gloves you need a lot of technique.
MMA is a more realistic view of fighting. But I was raised on Boxing and I like the fact that there are rules that you have to abide by which makes it more challenging. In boxing you can only use your fists. That says alot about the level of skill needed. MMA is great though. Unfortunately boxing is and always be corrupt, which tarnishes the beauty of the competition. Peace!
Of course the boxer isn't going to do well against MMMs. Even the average wrestler can take down the average boxer...IF the wrestler gets a hold of him.
The fact is an MMA fighter would destroy a boxer. If u need scientific proof look it up and you will find out that MMA fighters can punch stronger than a boxer, kick stronger than a muay thai fighter, etc.
he can't take a kick to the leg either, lol. wait a minute... he can't kick at all, all he can do is punch... wow he should have won, right gerry? lol... this is noting i haven't seen in all the semi-pro mma events i've been to, not a suprise that the boxer goes out in the first. "oh my god, you mean there's more to fighting than just punching??!!" LOL

Here's an argument that never gets boring and pointless.
HEY WHAT'S BETTER THE BIATHALON OR CROSS COUNTRY SKIING?
Embrace the relativity of the question. Boxing purists hate MMA because it's not boxing.
MMA fans hate boxing because it's just punching.
Some people even enjoy both.
The question of "who would win in a street fight" is interesting to some, maybe, but shouldn't be critical to your enjoyment of the respective sports.
They are after all, both sports.
