In Firefox, type about;Config and you can change some values to make it paint the content faster. You can also change the number of requests it sends at a time so it asks for more at a time, so it paints more in less time. Then disabling useless IPv6 or IPv4, (depends on your connection). in short, anything can be as fast as Chrome if you mess with it.

Both are as fast as each other, but I prefer some Safari features over Firefox features, so I still use Safari more.

I didn't care for the pc version of Chrome when I tried it either, but let's wait and see what the Mac version is like before we bash it. Granted all new browsers have compatibility issues when they first come out. Personally I will try Chrome for the Mac and if I like it I might use it with Safari 4.

See your problem Emeek is that Google isn't trying to 'take credit' for everything in their browser. What they're doing is making a user-friendly interface. They're combining the best ideas into one. They're just trying to give users, whether Mac, PC, Linux, or otherwise, a way to browse easier and have the most compatibility. If you research, and fiddle around with Google Chrome, you'll see it really is compatible with a lot more than FireFox or Safari.
I also want to know what this has to do with PC in particular. And I disagree with you. They are a savior. Without them, there wouldn't probably be any idea on a mapping program with such detail as Google. Before they were experimenting with satellites, they were researching possibilities for music downloads and sharing. Which was even before Mac was. Chrome was developed for use with Google Apps. Safari, didn't bring tabbed browsing, Opera did that. and I've seen it on IE6 by using plugins. (BT had the BT Browser that was IE6 with added features) Chrome is an open source app. Also each tab in Chrome runs as a separate browser. So if one site crashes it doesn't close the whole browser. anyway Firefox forever.

Way faster? It's not any faster than most of the browsers out there. The only browsers which are slower are...Internet Explorer and other Trident-based browser.
Not if they are asleep / doing nothing. It is good in case you have a lot of tabs opened and one of the sites do something that would crash the browser, or slow down everything. Only the tab is affected. I mean, it is not a problem to have a process per tab, tell me Eric: on Safari 4, the sites that are behind tabs are frozen? my bet is that safari will do the same (multiple process).
How the fuck does that make it a hog? It uses exactly the same resources as any other normal browser would.
If you open 5 tabs and each takes a toll of 3MB of RAM, it equals to 15MB of RAM being used in total. In a normal browser, you'd just get the sum of all those as they're not separate processes. And having them separate has a benefit: it doesn't crash the browser and you can just reopen the tab and continue what you were doing. Get your info. right.
When google chrome was launched google stated that the browser was a concept and admitted that they took ideas from other browsers. They also give away the source code. People use google products because they are good and they are free. Do you think there is a google secret agent hiding in your computer forcing you to use their products??
I've tried Google Chrome, sure it's fast, but that's all it does and I don't like that the tabs are on the top, something Safari 4 shouldn't of done. Firefox just does it so well and they fix bugs so much quicker than other browsers.

See your problem Emeek is that Google isn't trying to 'take credit' for everything in their browser. What they're doing is making a user-friendly interface. They're combining the best ideas into one. They're just trying to give users, whether Mac, PC, Linux, or otherwise, a way to browse easier and have the most compatibility. If you research, and fiddle around with Google Chrome, you'll see it really is compatible with a lot more than FireFox or Safari.

I also want to know what this has to do with PC in particular. And I disagree with you. They are a savior. Without them, there wouldn't probably be any idea on a mapping program with such detail as Google. Before they were experimenting with satellites, they were researching possibilities for music downloads and sharing. Which was even before Mac was. And I want to know specifically what 'Google' has to do with PC. They aren't biased to other operating systems, or they wouldn't bother a OS ver.

Chrome was developed for use with Google Apps. Safari, didn't bring tabbed browsing, Opera did that. and I've seen it on IE6 by using plugins. (BT had the BT Browser that was IE6 with added features) Chrome is an open source app. Also each tab in Chrome runs as a separate browser. So if one site crashes it doesn't close the whole browser. anyway Firefox forever.

I am a windows user (not a proud one)
I still use Firefox and Safari, chrome to me was just not good to me, I could easily make both FF and Saf. faster than chrome, and the speed is noticable.
I get a feeling that google is out to control the internet, so when internet 2 comes out, they will be on top of the game already. We must fight for the internet rights, everyone is equal on the internet.
The internet is digital everything.

i refuse to use a browser without adblock and noscript. if it doesn't have those then i don't give a shit how fast it is, i won't enjoy my internet. my browser hierarchy goes like this
>>>Firefox (w/ noscript, abp)
>>text browsers (links, elinks, lynx, etc)
>everything else (= shit)
even though i use linux, i refuse to be subjected to ads. if a website has ads i can't get around (built-in flash ads, cross-site ads, etc), i won't go there anymore.
oh and you forgot about how massive gmail is.

Nice conspiracy theory(Not being sarcastic), but for the most part your right. But as said before, Netcaptor created tabbed browsing in '98 also there was a browser on Amiga platforms I use to use called IBrowse.

I use firefox because I love download it all, and many of the cool extensions, and plugins.
Most ideas by apple were copied from somewhere else, so who is more original? google, or apple with their products. it least google is more open about their products than apple is. apple doesn't allow you to choose,the mentality is kind of like "do what I want or fuck you, you don't know what you want apple does".

Not if they are asleep / doing nothing. It is good in case you have a lot of tabs opened and one of the sites do something that would crash the browser, or slow down everything. Only the tab is affected. I mean, it is not a problem to have a process per tab, tell me Eric: on Safari 4, the sites that are behind tabs are frozen? my bet is that safari will do the same (multiple process).

How the fuck does that make it a hog? It uses exactly the same resources as any other normal browser would.
If you open 5 tabs and each takes a toll of 3MB of RAM, it equals to 15MB of RAM being used in total. In a normal browser, you'd just get the sum of all those as they're not separate processes. And having them separate has a benefit: it doesn't crash the browser and you can just reopen the tab and continue what you were doing. Get your info. right.

I've tried Google Chrome, sure it's fast, but that's all it does and I don't like that the tabs are on the top, something Safari 4 shouldn't of done. Firefox just does it so well and they fix bugs so much quicker than other browsers.

I think he's got this problem where he feels he has to defend the underdog or small companies. Thats why he's so strongly pro-apple, he's thinking that its the small company from 30 years ago. Problem is, its NOT. Its no longer a small company. Its just as much of a power hungry money wanting company that HP, Dell, Google and Microsoft are.
