  • Puts... linda performance!

  • Amazing

  • Happy 6 Year Anniversary of posting this song....which still freakin' RULEZ !!!!

  • 1:04 ummm mr. butler. your guitar's backwards...

  • lies! lies! that's epic! i love this band so much!

  • IT´S ÖZIL!!!!!!

  • my university did a lipdub with this song :)

  • omg i love them :'(

  • well richard and will are the best pair omg just watch them

  • v You might want to get that checked out, because your ears are malfunctioning.

  • v You might want to get that checked out, because this song is terrible.

  • I always have to put coat on when watching this video, to account for the goosebumps

  • And as if grammy of the year really means anything besides the music industry patting itself on the back

  • I hope all of you have the absolute pleasure of seeing them live. I saw them at Bonnaroo this year and I want to relive that moment forever.

  • whats the brand name of the sunburst hollow body guitar being played at 0:16 of the video?

  • So many hands on deck making so much mediocre music covering up for so much underwhelming individual talent.

  • @hugosalarm Are you even listening you dumby?

  • @EdoubleyouEFF Yes I am and the toll exacted for doing so is a resounding, paralyzing sense of boredom. If I'm a "dumby" (sic) for rejecting "musical genius" comprised of martial drums and droning bullhorns and bullshit lyrics and off-key vocals, well then, it's a condition that I'm forced to live with.

  • @hugosalarm This album is a fine piece of work by anybody's standard. Synchronizing the sounds of such a large and diverse live band for a tv audience is a feat. I refuse to believe this is a poor effort when over a million people have watched this and 90 people dislike it.

  • @EdoubleyouEFF ". . . .a fine piece of work by anybody's standard"?? A manic depressive Norwegian fisherman? A Yemeni goat herder? A 73 year old Swiss cat-burglar? Every ensemble, from German omm-pah-pah bands to philharmonic orchestras, large and diverse as they are, are able to "synchronize the sounds" for a tv audience or a concert hall. I respect the fact you stand up for yer band but I stand firmly with the 90.

  • @hugosalarm yeah... usually "underwhelming individual talent" will get you a grammy for album of the year... i'll have you know that the suburbs is one of the most moving pieces of art i have ever come across :)

  • @McSFraNtic71 So mechanical and soulless is your statement that you make reading "moving pieces of art" sound like museum employees transferring paintings from one exhibition room to another. And who am I to say that this was not your real intent?

  • @hugosalarm Dude, is all you have to do all day criticize other peoples opinions on the kind of music they listen to? My "mechanical and soulless statement" is far less so than your annoying attempts to troll us by telling us that our music is not up to par with your standards. If you don't like it fuck off. :)

  • @McSFraNtic71 You present a very strident defense of an exceedingly shitty band by verbally abusing someone whose opinion differs from your's. I guess that passes for reasoned thinking today. And what's this "troll us" and 'telling us" and "our music"? Either you've got multiple personality disorder or you're delusional enough to believe that Arcane Fire has a massive following or, more ludicrously, will make any sort of memorable (or significant) impact on the grand design of popular music.

  • @hugosalarm I really don't think you understand. This video has been seen by over 1,000,000 people and has been liked be very few. I don't give a flying fuck if they are going to make an impact on what you listen to but it's VERY clear to me that many people like them and enjoy their music. I don't understand why you want to ruin these people's enjoyment with your insistent ranting about how we are wrong. Music is an opinion and i don't give a shit about yours.

  • @McSFraNtic71 *disliked

  • @McSFraNtic71 "....been seen by over 1,000,000 people and has been liked "be" very few". Well, I instantly like YOU on two counts: A) you show class by admitting that Arcane Fire is, in youtube viewing terms, on a par with Kim Il sung and Donald Trump, and B) your "written" dialect identifies you as an elderly Scottish lady or gentleman. If these assumptions are correct, then please accept my apology for the abrasive tone of the criticism I directed at you. Merry Christmas, Happy New Year.

  • @hugosalarm And thank you for showing me that the only way that you can win an argument is by taking one mistake that i typed and exploiting it... along with completely ignoring all of the videos that arcade fire has that have well over the amount this one has. To be honest i would really be interested in finding out what music you listen to. To make an assumption i would say you either listen to stuff i don't consider music or listen to classical and don't consider anything else up to par...

  • @McSFraNtic71 You assume correctly,Frantic. I like spoken word recordings: poetry, political speeches, comedy and such. Classical music, yes, Mahler,Albinoni. . .various national anthems. . .from my rare excursions into rock music I'd have to say my favorite band is Edith Piaf. You know, after quickly scanning this overview of my musical tastes I'm forced to admit I'm probably in no position to question or comment on your musical likes (or dislikes) after all. Pardon me.

  • @hugosalarm Really, it's fine. I often have a lot of fun debating this kind of stuff with people. It's often more like me defending the fact that i listen to metal but this is good too. I do think it's funny though that i have never heard of any of the music you just said :P

  • @McSFraNtic71 Much respect to you for standing up for the music you love. Arcade Fire makes me think of the many groups who never got the recogniton they justly deserved: Cactus World News, The Chameleons and Echo and the Bunnymen to name a few., (and this was many years ago now.) But to be fair, I think Arcade Fire actually recognize the importance of these same people in interviews so, on we go in these pretty bleak times, musically and otherwise. Stay passionate about the music.

  • still can't believe I got to see them live!

  • AMAZING

  • I'm glad Win cut his hair.

  • Holy shit why can more music be like this?

  • Never heard them before, but OMG, this is good!

  • Fucking incredible

  • brrrrr bleah

  • Atleast Letterman has a good taste in music.

  • LIESS LIESSSSS

  • @underground979 ur mom is overrated.

  • @underground979 ok post a response of what you can play and or do. C'mon jerk razzle friken dazzel everyone

  • @underground979 fuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckjfcjyfuic, now how do like being trolled, bitch.

  • There is no other band or single singer who is so passionate to their own music like Arcade Fire.

  • @hmmh48 You've clearly never heard of Damien Rice.

  • @underground979 a0weu0j2ik3pmnnf8a9sdf

  • @underground979 no u

  • i think they r kinda interesting but Coldplay is ten times a bter band, dis is d 1st song i heard from them n prolly d famous 1

  • @jepc92003 I will say I love Coldplay too, and while I completely disagree with you about them being ten times better, I will refrain from going insane and simply suggest you listen to them further because, well, they're the poop.

  • @thehappiestcamper i will do dat, I think d concert they did yesterday 4 d Bridge school was nice but still far from bigger bands like U2, LP or Coldplay

  • @jepc92003 I watched that show, and you have to remember it was specifically an acoustic set and played in a very small venue. Just watch them from Bonnaroo or Coachella. And Arcade Fire has actually opened for U2, played with David Bowie and won the Grammy over Lady Gaga, Eminem, Lady Antebellum, and Katy Perry. :P

  • @thehappiestcamper i totally agree w u, i liked their set especially after d 2nd song, i like acoustic set (remind some worship bands) n i think they on top of most of those bands u mentioned, but u just cant compare them w U2 or david Bowie, they gud open act tou, I think lady antebelum n katy perry hav gus music but i hate lady gaga n she stupid costumes, she has not talent whatsoever, i think KOL or Muse hav bter music 2 but as i said b4 just my opinion

  • cool band make me humming :p

  • @surfbum5412 maybe that's just the way he concentrates on singing.

  • @surfbum5412 You clearly have no idea what hipster means.

  • 1:03 A, H, A, G

  • it always amazes me when a band sounds as good live as they do recorded on a cd....or...uh fuck people don't listen to cds anymore...you get my point though, crazy.

  • Great!

Look up "while the city sleeps-back when we knew", same kind of colourful soundscapes and big emotional crescendos! :)

  • oh my fucking god, regine.

  • Uhh, You're not playing that guitar right. It's the other side.

  • What a band!! :-)

  • snl fans would have gotten it

  • Poor fucking Letterman, the senile old prick, can't understand why Arcade Fire is

so good. Neither can his audience. They got a free show out of Letterman. Yay!

  • Staring contest world champion right there.

  • the horn that guy is playing is so french

  • Legends.

  • win reminds me of robert smith

  • pecho fríos

  • This is the first time I saw them. My buddies and I were sittin around and this came on, everyone was stunned by the end of it, "who ARE these guys??" I remember Zach noticed Win with the guitar backward and had a good laugh. Everyone who was in that room is a huge fan today

  • Comment removed

  • @laxbro518 It would be a mistake to say they suck. Take my word for it, if you like beautiful music, check them out a bit more. Good day

  • @zak4829 I really think it would be a mistake to write them off. If you like beautiful music, I'd really urge checking them out some more, they've got some really extraordinary songs. Good day

  • how can you not get chills while watching this

  • Win is Mr. Play his guitar upside down.

  • The only band that can go on Letterman and treat it like every other show.

  • "sleeping in is giving in, so lift those eye lids"

  • I saw Arcade Fire live a few months ago... amazing.

  • 3:20 to 3:54 is the best part of the best song

  • Intro gives me chills, so good

  • Ah, for the times I've blasted this on the stupa at my apartment in Boudhanath, Kathmandu, Nepal.

  • There aren't words for describe what I feel when I hear this song....

  • That guy with the one drum either needs a better defined role, or less booze before shows

  • Did you know that everyone in Canada can play an instrument? They play for Arcade Fire or Broken Social Scene.

  • @Nirvlime I wish I was that cool...

  • @Nirvlime or the new pornographers

  • @Nirvlime I wish I was in either or both of those bands.

  • @Nirvlime Love both band so much *justsaying*

  • 89 people on 1,000,000 views are like a small seed left on the universe!!!

  • Dear David Letterman,

Rock and Roll is not the same as Indie Rock.

  • 2:08 please someone notice it LOL

  • @GrimmJ0ww I can't find it. What is it?!?!?!?!

  • Everyone should see this band perform live. They are the best...

  • lady gaga is a cunt.

  • @bakedinspiration just 4 saying that....U.R.A.CUNT,end of !!!!!!

  • @AA22KPBT Im sorry what I meant to say was whiteyb9 is a cunt.

  • I love how the male and female vocals mix and work out perfectly. It's almost like how in a very good painting the colors mix perfectly to get it to become how great it is.

  • If you're going to make the argument that Win can't sing and write them off because of that, then you're also going to have to write off Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Janis Joplin and many other legendary musicians. Just because someone has the voice of an angel doesn't mean they're a better musician. There are plenty of performers with lovely voices, but that doesn't mean that they play from the soul. Arcade Fire play from the soul.

  • 最高!

  • 0:15...holy shit....Bill Gates joined a rock band!

  • @chefshitpiece fuck off twat

  • @whiteyb9 Relax man...I fucking love Arcade Fire. He looks like Bill Gates...whaddya want me to do.

  • @whiteyb9 what a tool

  • Why is everyone slagging them off on here? Try and find a more talented band on the planet! And who cares if they're not the greatest singers its about the PASSION and not fucking posers!

  • Now if only...someone in Arcade Fire could actually SING. Sorry to disappoint,

but he can't sing out of a paper bag. Having said that, they get points for instrumental collectivity. They would be interesting as an small orchestra - 21st century style.I would hope these kids have energy: they are kids! Wait 20 yrs. when they have a some railroad tracks laid down behind them. They have potential: means they haven't done it yet. Lyrical: yawn, Juno/Grammy notwithstanding.

  • @GwenBeauregard 'Sorry to disappoint'!?!? As if we were all waiting for your most wonderful opinion, and hoping, just hoping that you'd be a nice guy and say that Win could sing, but whatever you would say we would agree with. Well take your head out of your arse and realise that despite you telling us all what we should think, most people don't agree. In my opinion, Funeral was the best album of the last decade, because it is atmospheric, uplifting and the lyrics were anything but a 'yawn'.

  • Now if only...someone in Arcade Fire could actually SING. Sorry to disappoint,

  • Could we be listening to this generation's greatest band? Brilliant!!

  • @cjc26miles definitely not this generations greatest band, not by a long shot..

  • Is it just me or does the lead singer look like a grown up Stewie Griffin??... Love them though....

  • @TheMontanto @WarCheiftan1 You're both idiots

  • what kind of shit is this? nirvana had three bandmembers and they sounded way better than these eight retards

  • @TheMontanto Nirvana sucked balls, I would kill myself too if I knew my band blew ass.

  • @WarCheiftan1 they sucked balls? they could write way better shit than this.

  • @TheMontanto Yeah smells like teen shit that's really fucking creative...

  • @WarCheiftan1 yeah and eight people making shitty ass music is creative

  • @TheMontanto eight people who won a grammy, nirvana didn't...before you say that nirvana won awards MTV doesn't count...

  • @WarCheiftan1 so what if Nirvana didn't win a Grammy? You write shit like a 15 year old ..."oh alright, you band sucks!11!" "no, your band suckz more! aaaah, mommy!!!!". The fact that Nirvana didn't win a Grammy doesn't mean they weren't a good band and that they had a huge repercussion in music. Everyone!!!! knows Nirvana, from the hipsters to the beatnicks to the rappers to the hardcore punks and to the ones that didn't even follow MTV back in the day. THAT'S THE IMPORTANT THING.

  • @WarCheiftan1 dont worry, he just jelly

  • look up "while the city sleeps - back when we knew", kind of similar big and colourful soundscapes.

  • OWEN PALLETT!!!!!!!!!!!<3<3<3

  • Thank Jebus !! A Song on Letterpmman Paul Schafer doesnt fuck with.

  • First time I ever saw them. Everyone in the room was blown away. Now we're all loyal fans : ]

  • Haha he tried to put the snare over his head 2:06

  • Can anyone tell me why he was so HIGH he was playing the back of his guitar at 1:07?????

  • he said 'rock and roll'... who says that anymore

  • @corruptentity Rock and roll is still a genre lol... just the same way r&b was a term used back in the forties and fifties. It's just evolved since then :P

  • I saw this band live and I was in a complete awe. my jaw dropped for most of the show. how all of them can play so many instruments and how they all combined give such an unique sound and vibe... and how they really seem to love it and have so much fun with all of it... amazing.

  • can sbody tell me what guitar model win is playing?

  • @jcb0trashmail maybe the GIBSON CS-336 TGB

  • @ismirdechtwurscht thats a lieeee! Youuuuu....

  • @jcb0trashmail i just said maybe...

  • @jcb0trashmail

Mosrite for sure, the model is may be "Celebrity"

  • Who knew that the'd be this big 5 years ago

  • wenisimooooooooooooooooooooooo bkn nice!!! = )

  • I just knew that they must've made a Letterman appearance! My kids (6 & 4-1/2) absolutely love this song! and call it "the song that makes us go crazy" because when I put it on, they go running around laps all over the house. Their enjoyment of this song captures what Arcade Fire have on this album, purely genius melodies with perfectly balanced instrumentations and vocals with raw emotion! One of the best songs ever recorded, though not be recognized by radio, at least in this generation.

  • Win's lack of emotion IS the emotion.

  • 85 people have been lied to.

  • waking wander did a post-rock version of this song

  • well actually... win butler's voice more than makes up for the emotions lackin in his face.... lol..... superb band btw...

  • no kiddin... these guys are marathon ass-kickers live.... wow...

  • @crazycricket15 I don't think Will actually 'plays' the drum. It's more of a "Damn this song gets my juices flowing... Hey! There's a drum! Let's beat the shit out of it!" kind of beauty.

  • what happened to the crazy, limbs-flailing, running up the walls will that we all love?

  • i am wating you in japan! it is so amaing band!!!!!!!!

  • This is insanely amazing.

  • This is probably the most timid ive ever seen Will play a drum.

  • @crazycricket15 yeah thats will for ya

  • I have to say, they don't look like much when you a video of them performing. But when you get in a stadium with 8,000 people who love AF just as much as you, and you hear Win's real voice, and you see Will going crazy, and you see how good they really are at playing all the crazy instruments, it really is like a religious experience. And no one can understand that until they actually see them live.

  • @josanne510 Seeing them live have been two of the best nights of my life to date. And im seeing them again in August. Its just musical perfection.

  • @crazycricket15 I am too! Outside lands in SF!! I cannot wait.

  • arcade fire fans should look up "while the city sleeps", same kind of colourfulness and big soundscapes!

  • I love the recording but his voice disappointed me :(

  • Arcade fire is so good at playing their instruments they can do it backwards

  • @kmiller812 I've heard they cant play it whit their eyes closed :o

  • These people are to good to be compared to da national,,

  • did he mean to play his guitar backwards?

  • @jhhoward96 No, I'm sure a grown man didn't realize his guitar was backwards. >__>

Yes, pretty sure it was intentional >_>

  • This is great music, but what are they doing? The guy with the drum (pardon my ignorance of his name) put it over the second guitarist's head O.o it's fascinating, but seems unusual.

  • damn these guys know how to have fun lol

  • Great song

  • im actually sad they won the grammy... they only give that to shitty artirts who cant even play an instrument. Grammys are a joke

  • I went to see The National and Arcade fire show in St. Louis and left after the National. I respect that Arcade fire can make music and a living doing it but they are not my cup of tea. The National Rocked bythe way!

  • @succinct33 I saw The National and Arcade Fire in Chicago and Arcade Fire made them look about as good as me playing the recorder in fifth grade. I love The National, but they are in no way, shape, or form comparable to Arcade Fire. Best rock band on the planet right now.

Although now I want to listen to The National's "So Far Around The Bend" and have a drink hahaha

  • @IrishInColumbus Who's the National

  • @IrishInColumbus I WAS THERE TOO! and it was nothing shy of incredible. Arcade Fire is probably the most talented band ever.

  • @IrishInColumbus Dude did you go to the show on the 22nd? One of the best nights of my life and by far the best concert I have ever been to.

  • @daforceweilder7

That concert was only half as good as being there for their set at Lollapalooza. And yet, it was the second best set I've ever seen by a mile. I'm stoked for Bonnaroo.

  • @IrishInColumbus Yea one of my friends who went to the concert with me also saw them at Lolla and said it was awesome. And the Bonnaroo lineup this year is amazing! Wish I could go. I'm a little disappointed in this years Lolla lineup considering it's their 20th anniversary.

  • @succinct33 That's cool, never heard of the National.

  • I don't really like these guys that much.. But they're alllright.. Just i don't see myself listening to these guys almost everyday..

  • @TexasLeatherBoi I completely agree.

  • @CheapKnockoffBassist type something else into the search bar then. duh
