WORST PIECE OF SHIT I'VE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE!!!!!
Do you realize this is one of the most plagiarized films of all time? It's a fucking all-time classic made by Steven Spielberg and written by Richard Matheson and starting the great Dennis Weaver. It was originally a movie of the week but was soo good it actually played in theaters. what a idiot you are
Chuck's Cafe’, the truckstop at which a frazzled Mann tries to pick out the seemingly psychotic driver, looks much the same but has been transformed into an upmarket French restaurant. Not quite what you expect to find out in the desert wilderness. It's called "Le Chene" and is located at: 12625 Sierra Highway, Agua Dulce.
@SeberHusky That is so random, but thank you for telling us. O_o I'm surprised it changed, actually. You'd think they'd stay the same and become a cult tourist attraction.
@SeberHusky That's actually pretty interesting. I checked it out on Google Street and I know I've driven right by that place on the Sierra Highway, but had no clue! Next time I'm back in the LA area I'm going to have to check out all sorts of movie locations I've discovered lately. So many I've been through or near but had no idea!
Duel kind of makes me want to at least drive a Plymouth Valiant. Also, I have a guitar that I'm restoring and I'm thinking of refinishing it similar to the color of the Valiant in this movie.
Uhh, maybe because I think that he was a looong way from his home...? AND, in case you never noticed (because you didn't seem to notice), it looked a lot like that truck owned the road a lot more than he did. Yeah, maybe that's just only a couple of reasons why hehehehe
You know that truck is so evil and yet it's a hero to so many. They should bring the truck back in a movie but this time as the good guy. Just imagine the truck being chased by someone in something even more evil. We would all root for the truck and it would come out the winner. Woopee!
...or it could be a water-tanker truck that could put-out ...and extinguish brush-fires... and even forest fires... and it could definitely help... and if we were to modify the water-delivery-tanker-truck(by using our imagination) ...then... then we would NOT need any stupid HERO Fire Fighters... and the water-tanker could even be used to fill-up the watering-drinking-holes... for the animals... and so they too can swim in some clean water... and be normal... and clean... hmmm... simple ha?
...because driving a Tanker-Delivery-Truck requires EXTRA-amounts of NOGGEN... because the liquid-load... that is being delivered... splashes from side to side... and from left to right... and front to back... and the liquid inside the tanker-container... will SHIFT all by it's self... as if "it has a mind of it's own" ...and even GRAVITY will affect and move the liquid-load that is being transported and delivered... and it could even be drinkable fresh-water for the kids/teenagers... hmmm...
...ohhh... so it was Steven Spielberg... the flower-power-Jew-bastard director who has contributed to accidents... and insurance claims... and added to the fear and confusion of the highly-responsible job... of driving a tanker-truck... and delivering fuel... to water to any liquids... or gases in liquid forms... hmmm(shame) ...so lets please get-the-fuck-out-of-the-way... and lets NOT cut them off... and lets NOT stop in-front of front of these true driving professional...
Look here Mcloud, you drop dead, you gotta 10 gallon hat on a 2 pint head. In fact, hold on Mcloud, you're a clown, you pull out your gun, your pants fall down, you're all just dumbos, Columbo's King of the Cops.
I read the trailer here is what I got: DUEL DUEL DUEL DUEL DENNIS WEAVER DUEL DUEL DUEL DUEL DUELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A Universal Picture Copyright (C) MCMLXXII by Univeral Pictures. All Rights Reserved.
Love it - have it on DVD - never get sick watching it - I actually read the short story it was adapted from in Playboy years ago - (see Honey - I do read it for the articles!)
I don't think anyone would have trusted him to make a movie about a shark of all things if he hadn't done this first. There truly is nothing more horrific than a guy who will kill you for nothing and has the means to do it easily.
@badturkali Well though that's rather true, Spielberg also made the late, great Hitchcock a little jealous and envious, most especially with the "Vertigo Shot" in Jaws.
The very cool and innovative Vertigo Shot was INVENTED by Hitchcock, but was PERFECTED only by Spielberg all those years later in 1975. Very unexpected and surprising, and completely and wholly true! hehehehe
there is an episode of Incredible Hulk called, "Never Give a Trucker an Even Break" which is almost scene for scene exactly like this movie. Great episode, awesome movie!
When he's in the restaurant he orders just swiss cheese on rye bread, then when he gets his sandwich he asks the waitress as she's leaving that he want's ketchup. who eats just a plain sandwich with just cheese and ketchup? LOL!
I remember watching this with my daddy when I was a little girl, I was fascinated with it. We watched it over the Christmas holiday and I was just as fixated. He is a trucker too and he said when movie came out, truckers were mad because they said the movie put them in a bad light. Funniest part of movie, when the old lady says "JIM!" What a movie!
@mathyou9 Yeah, but even so they're still generally way better than today's trailers that pretty much all look the same, being even more formulaic and cliched then the films they advertise! Much worse than that is that they just love to tell you waaay too much, spoiling the very movie that they're supposed to selling!
Jeez! Today's Hollywood is such awesome FAIL! Give me "cheesy", "corny" trailers over outright spoiling trailers any and every time! That spoiling shit is 100% unacceptable! hehe
Funny thing is in one of my pictures when I was around 9 yrs old, had me next to the floor model tv i grew up with! And this movie was on the tv screen. I think the picture was taken either in 79 or 80.
I used to watch this movie all the time when i was a kid. Today i saw a picture of a american truck and got to think about this one, was like 12-13 years i saw this movie. I love that truck!

First time I saw this I didn't know what I was watching but I liked it and watched it to the end. I seem to fall asleep before one of todays movies finishes.
I just watched this film today when I got it on dvd, my first time it was aswell and I loved it. Spielberg hits the suspense genre well but Hitchcock will always be the master.
I heard talking about this movie from my grandfather....I thought "old, boring film". After I've seen it and,......God, if this is a damn good film!!!!!!! And it's Spielberg's too
I watched this movie as kid in the 90's. Still one of my favorites. I was fortunate to live in So-cal too, so one day I drove and found the Cafe and the tunnel out on soledad canyon road. and yes, I'll admit I was checking my mirrors allot....
People need to show massive amounts of respect for trucks. They spend hours upon hours on the road every day bringing us our much needed trinkets from China after they've been deploted to a specific water port. Now if you piss off trucks you basically have a death wish every time you venture out on to the highway. You won't even be able to think straight because you'll be hungry and no food available, barely any gas left in your engine, no more soda, etc. Buyer beware.
That's a trailer? wow that was bad. The movie is probably good, but there was no snake or spider in the short story. Also there was no children or train crossing scene in the book.
@ruffrydin10 Yeah, you're right. This was the trailer from the theatrical release. The movie was first shot as a made for TV movie, which was very accurate to the book. Those scenes were added for the theatrical version.
@ruffrydin10 They had to go back and add more scenes to the movie to make it longer so that it could play in theatres. So they got a similar truck (the old one was destroyed in the final scene in the original movie), and they filmed some new senes, including the school bus scenes, and the train crossing scenes.
I have to say when I first saw this movie, my thoughts were, O~M~G.... W~o~W. What an interesting thriller to view in the middle of night. I didn't know this movie was made for TV only given some of the scenes..., W~O~W!!! The funny thing for me off things was... I couldn't imagine officer McCloud as being the same person as this guy that Dennis Weaver portrayed both characters for.
I saw it in the 80s, all I can say is one hell of a movie is all I can say, edge of your seat action, and I just got interested because of the trains and the truck, but after watchin' the w hole thing, man, I was hooked!
I seen this movie in 74 when I was 9, scared the livin shit out of me.....then I seen Maximum Overdrive later on, started liking trucks and made AC/DC my new favorite band, go figure.
i heard it's a great movie but this trailer does not make me want to watch it. should I buy it and see how it is?
yoojoel 1 day ago
i tought it was stupid, but when you give a simple idea and give it to Stiven Spielberg then you get a great movie, it is simple but very good!

This movie is probably the closet adaptation to a Richard Matheson story that I've seen.
It's basically the story on film.
Which is why it's my favorite Matheson film, and also because Spielberg did an awesome job with it, and so did Weaver and Loftin

Also there was no children or train crossing scene in the book.
ruffrydin10 1 year ago
@ruffrydin10 Yeah, you're right. This was the trailer from the theatrical release. The movie was first shot as a made for TV movie, which was very accurate to the book. Those scenes were added for the theatrical version.
discomasquerade 1 year ago
