  • It's a song about 2 people who were once in love but so much damage has been done if both don't meet halfway nothing can ever be done about it.

  • Is that supposed to be his first wife?

  • I love Sting, but this has got to be one of his sillier videos. I'm kind of okay with the story being told in the video despite the slightly overdone drama, but the gritty, realistic feel of the visuals is undone by our hearing several instruments that obviously are not present in the scene (drums, etc) at all - the camera pans around and we see NOBODY else. They might as well have put a band in there with him. Or he could have done a stripped down acoustic version to go with this video.

  • Rofl I love how sting whistles the tune to Roxanne as he glues all his money to the wall. You don't have to wear that dress tonight......

  • youre a hard man to find !!! NOT HARD ENOUGH !!!

  • OMG how intensely sexy is he in this video, but i wonder if this song is one of his that he says sounds romantic and sexy but is really meant to be mean and evil. I think for this maybe yes.

  • No, that's Every Breath You Take,,,

  • The hardest fight in life is to conquer your very own demons; I considered Sting one of the greatest singer we had!!!

  • un grande!!!!

  • JUST ONE SONG !!!! WAKEY WAKEY !!!

hard man to find ! NOT HARD ENOUGH.... how did he look ? OLDER

  • My favourite song from his solo career, and it sounds extra amazing live. Very stylish video as well (he looked hot back then! :)

Still LOL @ the comment below saying his solo career was a flop.... some people have a selective memory!

  • I was STUNG by STING!

  • excellent.

  • Dream of the blue turtles is probably one of the most inspired album of the 80's!!

  • The video is like a cheesy B-movie but the song is as fresh as if it was just released yesterday....that's a CLASSIC!Sting is definitely one of the greatest artists ever.

  • "...generally considered a flop."

    By whom??

Several Grammy awards and seven platinum albums, four of those multi-platinum. But let's not let facts get in the way of your stupid opinion...

  • always some little bitch that needs attention on youtube.sting is the man you know it everybody knows it,so if you need attention go be a fag and get some therapy

  • Signs of things to come from this great musician. His credibility was established in his solo career.

  • This is one of my favorite sting songs

  • omar hakim :)

  • how did he look ? OLDER !!!!!!! wakey wakey

  • one song !!!! I "LL CHOOSE IT

  • youre a hard man to find !!! NOT HARD ENOUGH

  • just a wonderful song by a great artist

  • This is one man with a lot of talent, too bad he doesnt cut more recordings, we miss you Sting.

  • A man with a lot of talent, but this video is horrible.

  • Must have been doing a friend a favor.

  • I was 13 getting ready for my first day of High School freshman year, 1998.

I thought it was a new song! Oh well, just as good.

First time! (I heard the song)

  • I saw Gordon do this live in 1987 in Melbourne. He was unbeleivebale. And that percussionist, I think his name was Hakim, he was freakin amazing.

  • I remember listening to this song when I was four or five on my way to Florida to visit family... I've loved this song ever since... and I'm sixteen!

This song will be forever engraved in my memory.

  • You must have been born in 80 or 81 because I was 4 when I first heard this song. My mom wore this shit out on 45. I remember MTV wearing this video out. Not this version, the all black and white version. Can't nothing beat the 80's.

  • No, my dad had the CD and he played it in the car all the time.

  • I'm from the ghetto. We didn't have money for a CD or a CD player. Weren't the players about 400 dollars back then?

  • I love how Sting is whistling ROXANNE at the end! He's simply amazing! I love this version except it would be great to see her reaction to his song to her. I'm expecting her to either explode in anger or melt with guilt and take him back!

  • Probably the best written song in My memory. Such a poetic way of describing the things we do to each other while in the heat of love. I guess being an ex English teacher makes for kick ass songwriting.

  • Just one song !! AND I'LL CHOOSE IT !!!!

  • WoW! The Stinger playing a Fender...

  • I much much perfer older film without the stupid hype of the color intro to this one. Just straight up Sting, don't you think?

  • nope

  • is he a prostitute or a man who left a woman? if you think about it he describes a battlefield & a ruined castle ravaged by war. we fight & say things to hurt our lover. " ...had to stop my tracks for fear of the mines i laid.." "let me set the battlementson fire." was he asking for forgiveness? was his lover looking for him and did he know it was her?

  • "and let me build a bridge, for i cannot fill this chasm.."

    brilliant.

  • what the hell is going on in this video..

  • great song!

    i never noticed he's playing a guitar.

i always assumed it was a bass.

  • HE PLAYS BOTH...

  • no he doesnt

  • He's right, he is whistling Roxanne.

    Good catch Baron.

  • lol "mr. sting"

  • THE BEST EVER!! I LOVE YOU STING!!!!

  • this song is the best sting song....ethereal....haunting....beautiful. i actually got married to this song (then divorced yrs later

  • One of my favorite songs. Thanks!

  • Comment removed

  • I just simply LOVE how he keeps that STRAIGHT FACE as he's telling thrue...

  • I love at the beginning, he's more or less a hooker!!!!

  • rsmard & Mackerni: I think you are both right. In order to launch his solo career, I think he did a lot of poppie crap that he knew would be put on the raididio - and in the advent of "MTV" and other music video tv he did a lot of sappy, pop crap. However, since making his fortune in that, he is now able to make what he WANTS without concern for commercialism. He's a rich bastard now who can do whatever the hell he likes. The public be damned.

  • After getting trapped into the pop culture with Every Breath you Take, this song was the closest thing to pop that A&M could find from Dream of the BTs. Seems they were still trying to sell him as a pop artist. They had to turn one of those damn songs into a video. I guess A&M figured out that he wasn't going for the Every Breath you Take club any longer after this.

  • Are you kidding me, rsmard?

What do you classify Sting's music if it isn't pop? He does a little jazz, a little rock, a little country ... mix it all in and you got pop. The only thing that's closer to his style than pop is AC (adult contemporary) which is really just an off-shoot of 90's pop.

  • Try listening to every other song on this album. Shadows in the Rain isn't exactly what I would consider pop. Better yet, listen to every song on the second album. Sting is to pop as Thelonius Monk is to smooth jazz.

  • OK. who made him shoot this video? He obviously dispises the music video format. Simple math: "I want my MTV" + this video = Sting hates this format!! Then the whistling of Roxanne saying, "I'm not going to whore myself with these foolish videos any longer, thank you".

  • great

  • I dont like this video, its like he's a prostitue!

  • great rsong. the best

  • Ha! Ha! He wall papered his room with the money. Take that! No matter how posey one might think he is, I will always see him as a humble hero. One that speaks volumes to my soul and my mind. Posey? Ha! Ha! I've been called worse and Mr.Sumner (Sting) probably has been too.

  • Ah Sting! He's such a posey wanker but I love his music so much! And this is one of my favorite songs.

  • I think men are jealous of Sting because so many women love him. Ha ha.

  • plus he's mega talented and intelligent...and hot. haha

  • My wife among them.

  • sting looks like meepos malapan here

  • hahahaha what!! lol

  • HAHAHA...that was just some silly ass name I made up because I was in a silly mood...glad you liked!

  • HEY! :o[ That's not in Wikipedia! :oD You made me research something! Now I'm gonna have to pinch somebody! ;oD< LOL

  • lyrical poet.sting.

  • he is so sexy!

  • awesome

  • great man great song thank u for posting it

  • I cant believe after alllll these years Ive never seen this version of the video before. Awesomeness!!

  • Cheesey yes, but the message is clearly sent

    thanks

  • you rascal.

no whistling allowed in the new world order,

  • i prefer sting with the police

  • The One & Only Mr Sumner.

  • looks like one of em cheesy van dam films...lol

  • I love how he's whistling Roxanne at the end.

  • the money, he should go eat, but great song one song that's all he can probably do or he will fallout

  • this video sucks. the song is one of the best!

  • i love this song

thing i like most about this vid is that when hes glueing the money on the wall (or w/e it is) he's whistling Roxanne

  • ohh, hes gluing it on his amp

  • "And if I built this fortress around your heart..encircled you in trenches and barbed wire..then let me build a bridge..for I cannot fill the chasm..let me set the battlements on fire"..an emotional and lyrically charged masterpiece about hurting one you love..or so I believe is the meaning..that's how Sting made his music..as a universal language..this hits me so very deep for all the wrong reasons..and for the right ones too I guess..

  • Wow I have not seen this version since the 1980s! I remember how cool dialogue was back then in music videos!! Thanks for posting this!! Great song, great album, feh acting!

  • see you guys don't get this video it's about this guy that this bloke is looking for, to get on tape, and he pays him and he says just one song then he gets' on a stage and plays some jazz chords and it's like cool!! that's all there is to it alright|||

  • Great job on the fake rain. I was fooled all this time! LOL

I love Sting. I've been stung since The Police..and the video is GR8...

  • "sappy" or not, a highlight in my career of sets to have been on (barely seen, but that's me making it rain on the warehouse window)

  • Sting, my sincerest thanks.

  • All the good songs do not start with a good videos!

  • hes so great sounding

  • have to agree with the others - great song but sappy vid. expected better from sting.

  • i love this song...was it for her

  • This is a great song but a terrible video.

  • theres a version of this video where they cut out all the acting and just have the entire video in black and white

  • "Little people" or "little person". Call one a midget to their face and see what happens!

  • love this video

  • great song

  • this man is pure heart!

  • A good song from a very good album! The DREAM OF THE BLUE TURTLES contain amazing tunes.Children Crusade and Consider me gone are my favorites. This album,The Soul Cages ,The Living Sea and Sacred Love are underrated!

  • This song is actually the story of Sting's divorce from his first wife. Great video though.

  • Always loved this one... don't blink!

  • ok, i have to redeem: it's rather an apology than a payback. man, this guy knows how to say sorry!

  • i think sting's been taken hostage by this woman as some sort of revenge because he built this fortress around her heart (aren't that scratches on her cheek?) and playing this song is his payback for being imprisoned by her.

  • think thats just her hair, not scratches. not 100% though.

  • by the way, is his acting really so bad? i haven't seen a film with him yet, i think.

  • great video. i love this slight touch of arrogance when he's speaking... *rrrrrrr*

  • I haven't seen this version of the video for a long time.

  • Oh, and before everyone hates me, Sting is the greatest songwriters and a musical genius: English, American, or any country; solo or the Police!

  • OK this song is a CLASSIC! An unanswered question remains tho...WHAT THE HELL WAS THE PURPOSE OF THIS VIDEO!?! A private detective (or record exec), a mystery woman, Sting sleeping in the barn, and a dwarf screaming "Mr. Sting, wakey wakey! And in the end Sting uses the money the detective/ record guy gave him to wallpaper on what looks like a water heater!?! I hope Sting gave the "Wakey Wakey" guy a cut...

    WTF!?!

  • crap chess player..

  • I second it all....

  • It has been so long since I have seen this video.Sting is by far the greatest troubador of his generation. This song is just so cool and stylish. He speaks in a spirital manner to his music. Many of today's artist are lacking this style of words and music.

  • Sting is the kind of person that doesnt fake is life...He reads/thinks a lot as a Sun in Lybra in the third house...He is well informed about many ancestral techniques...And you can see that troughtout his lyrics. For intance just read Synchronicity (but do it really) Few people seems to know that this guy is just a messenger...

  • wheres the decent video of this song?

  • Mezmerising....

  • valerie

    where are you

    i tied your sneakers

    you tousled my hair

    then you drove away

  • sting is great

  • I remember watching this incredible hunting video back in the mysterious 80's. Stunning

    Thanks for posting

  • I didn't see him hunting anything....

  • We are the Mods, We are the Mod,

    We are the

    We are the

    We are the Mods!

  • I love Sting aka Gordon Sumner. However, this video give me heightened DOUCHE CHILLS.

  • can't take my eyes of those shoulders and biceps.. yes, totally hot in this video. Would be ten times hotter if he wasn't so cocky though!

  • amazing thing is that he's way better LIVE....never miss his concerts. never

  • Thank you so much for posting this... Sting is such a genuine talent, something proved by this song. The entire album redefined how I viewed music (and how I wrote my own). Genius... that's all one can say about the man... truly few musical geniuses nowadays.

  • I Loove this song.. Sting's soo hot in this one.. Rauwf..!

But the funniest part, was at the end where he started whislering (sp?) Roxanne.. That's so great!

  • god he's so fu--in hot in this...in everything...

  • You go Gordon Sumner. (Stings Real Name)

  • One of my favorites. Wow what a great song. A real classic- as good now as when it first came out. Sting has ridiculous talent.

When I first heard this song, I had to look 'battlements' (from the chorus) up in the dictionary- had no idea what it meant!

  • not chasm?

  • blue turtle songs are ahead of their time, bliss!

  • i love sting he is sooo sexy!!! I went to see him at the fox theatre in Atlanta Georgia!!!!!

  • not a police or sting fan. i love this one though!!

  • this a rare video as it is the full version ty for posting.. this film has been in my favs for a long time... please allow embedding

    Avalon

  • SO HOT!!! OMG!!

  • huuuuuu...... he's hot! he is hot even now! but then......... I am getting goosebumps!

  • Mr Sting lmao....I love Stings music due to the fact my dad made me listen to him..Lots of my mates take the mick when I say I like his music but I find he has more meaning and talent then anyone singing today, "fact"

  • Sting is so hot! saw him in Hawaii a few years ago and he rocked my world...still...does....can't wait to c the police in Feb. - - - hawaii bound!

  • He's so hot in this video. Christ.

  • If this is Sting's promo video of his acting skills then no wonder he did not make it in the movie business. At least the music is good.

  • One of the best songs I've ever heard, but one of the worst videos I've ever seen!

  • This album is a Masterpiece !

Every sound is carefully tasted and

    played,amazing musicians,melody and lyrics !

  • Where the hell did this come from?

    Awesome!

  • coool!

  • beautiful... rock on sting and the police!!

  • Delicious.......

  • isn't that Deep Roy? the Oompa-Loompa from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory?

  • The actor you're wondering about is Billy Curtis, and I don't think he was in "Charlie..." However, he was one of the munchkins in "Wizard of Oz." He also turned in a great performance as Mordecai in "High Plains Drifter."

  • Sting is playing guitar bare-footed and that window behind him is broken. Not too smart, Sting.

  • Any video that features a midget is OK with me.

I hear Sting was NUTS over him.

  • For me this appears to be a description of a battle of love. Love is a battlefild... His "walls" falled down in that war, and he's unprotected, asking to build that fortress around her heart.

  • The battle is within himself. Broken heart and dreams sabotaging the future.

  • when he says "i will build a fortress around your heart" can it mean that he will protect her heart, but at the same time, he will prison it?

  • great song. Love the words.

  • Aren't the words about a failed marriage/or relationship that is in trouble? I love how he reflects on what he did and that he wanted to fix things. That was admirable. I just love Sting.

  • Great singer, terrible whistler--legnedary artist, piss-poor actor.

  • grey matter..?

    What's that?

Isn't the stinky thing that comes daily out of my butt...?

  • Sting writes lyrics way above and beyond the comprehension of the average American brain. Anyone who believes that has probably paid homage to lyrics that Jessica Simpson sings or the popular rap artists of these insane days. They are so infantile and meaningless so it no challenge for "grey matter! It's a sad commentary to the state of intelligent thought in our society.

  • totally agree with you...

  • Please spare us your "Americans are dumb" rant, and your tired, pretentous cliches. Nothing you wrote was intelligent or original at all, and you come off like someone trying to sound smarter than he is. If you knew anything about American tastes you'd know that Jessica Simpson's popularity has little to do with her music, and that only a small portion of the population listen to rap. No, instead you'll just make generalizations on things you know nothing about on the internet...

  • Go Omar Hakim!

  • fuck you & your momma

  • Those magazine editors are on crack!! There is no lyrcist who comes close to Stings greatness. Well ok maybe Bruce Springsteen.

  • Bruce Stringbean sucks ass.

  • its like he's a prositute in this song.. "JUST ONE SONG"""

  • fuck you

  • what a bunch of girlie comments.

  • I agree. I believe that Sting is a brilliant man; one of the greatest songwriters of my generation. I'm so happy to have grown up with his music and feel blessed that I have the opportunity to embark on this musical journey with him. I'm forever a Sting/Police fan.

  • I second that motion!

  • Yup, I don't think there's a thing he's written that I haven't loved.

  • Gah, there's tabs of this on the internet, but they don't show the full chords that he uses...I want to learn to play it like he does, not half-ass it and play only the major notes of each chord. MUST STUDY!

  • Hey people get this.I just read on the internet,That Sting was voted the worse song writter ever.WOW!!..I just can't believe that.Go to Yahoo's homepage and google music,You can read the article as well.

  • actually they rated his lyrics the worst, not himself. but even then they've got to be morons.

  • He wasn't voted. Blender chose him. Just a one guy.

  • Whew..I am glad it was just one guy.I always thought Sting was a great song writter.
