  • I doubt he likes the nick name hagrid.

  • Cocaine's a hell of a drug............... O.O

  • PLEASE, THIS IS NOT HAGRID.

HAGRID WAS AN OLD MAN WITH LAMP.

THIS IS ---DON--- ROSS WITH THUMBPICK. HAGRID HAS BIGGER THUMP.. IT DOES NOT FIT WITH HIM

  • are those fingerpicks or nails??

  • @JUSJEROK13 nails, but fake ones.

  • Holy shit he has ze worldz strogezd nailz!!!

  • i love that candyrat has been selling the tabs since it came out and yet, it still took 3 years for someone to make a cover!

  • Mike McShane

  • (Hagrid reference)

  • another great song from don.

  • Forgive the pun but, this guy is the Don!

  • @eddiethed Forget the pun, this guy is the Ross!

  • his hand looked really scary, like a demon hand, but still amazing guitar playing

  • intro was like pat metheny's phase dance

    but ,nevertheless,good song

  • What tuning is this in? I'm gonna learn it!!!!!! :DD

  • @kelsey4123 tuning is CGEbFGBb

  • @Adeptmind Thank you!

  • 2:39 Fucking Glorious.

  • begging-for-thumbs-up-comments are getting more 'n more pitiful throughout the whole youtube community

  • pure sickness at 2:09

  • sounds like similar chords and stretches to ebon coast. i feel like much of candyrat records guitarists influence eachother since they so commonly play and write together

  • Who knew Hagrid was such a phenomenal musician?

  • The 39 dislikes are of the friends of family of the people who died watching this video.

  • He tuned is guitar while playing at 1:47 :D

  • @jcisaacs it's CGD#FGA# i think

  • don u r insane u hear me!! :O

  • sshssssss! >< the guitar is speaking...

  • youtube needs a loop button

  • Comment removed

  • the best song of don ross

  • 2:38 makes me smile :)

  • anyone know the tuning he is using on this?

  • @jcisaacs i think its DADGAD or a varient of it, its too low for standard tuning but not quite open C so its my best guess, hope that helps

  • @jcisaacs CGEbFGBb

  • Of course there are people who dislike the song! The world is full of mediocrity. Any musician or any kind of artist that is accomplished understands the doministic growth process (imitation, assimilation, innovation). Obviously Don lives in this process and should be commended for his efforts. Thank you Don for your Pat Metheny "Phase Dance" quote. To all you mediocre musicians who dislike: POST SOMETHING!

  • A thumbs down doesn't mean that person doesn't appreciate the music/ player, it just probably wasn't their song of choice lol.

Every1 on youtube gets so hyped up by what others are saying doing, there are always going to be haters... But seriously why would you thumbs down to this???

  • i paused my porn for this

  • i tryed to play that song, now i have no fingers.

writing with my nose.. tookme10 min.

  • @Eysc missed a spacebar too :D

  • Incredible. First time listening, pin point accurate perfect timing... If I don't learn or do anything new today, just because of finding this my day didn't go to waste!

  • 39 people like to click aleatory in every red spots in the monitor with their mouses.

It´s called The Stupidity Syndrome.Everyone knows that without even make the college. : )

  • one of those dislikes was chuck norris

  • I thought I was the only one lazy enough not to cut the strings at the headstock of the guitar and wrap them in circles!!!

  • @JetJoeStudios

    @dylan96unearth

I think y'all are right - but I still wonder how anyone can rate this negatively. There are no lyrics at which anyone can be offended, and this is the purest and best usage of harmonics I've ever heard. WTF were these people thinking? They obviously didn't listen to it, probably thought "OH GOD FUZZY WHITE HIPPIE" and just did a knee-jerk maneuver.

Stupid. Enjoy the candyrat exhibition in your town. Mine comes in May. :)

  • 39 people are deaf

  • we only respect the angels, when a great musician dies.

  • He lives up to his name..... :O

  • No mess up there. I saw Don live in Sault Ste. Marie Michigan and have this recorded on my phone. There was like 20 people there. We were talkin to him and asking him questions between songs. Such a mellow guy. Best concert I've ever been to. (Slayer, lamb of god, ZZ top, killswitch engage, metallica, mastodon, gojira, machine head) just to name a few shows I've been at.

  • Awesome music. Live, I would like to hear some bongos to this song. :)

  • man! 38 dislikes... I pity the fool

  • does he have big hands or is that neck tiny as heck.

  • this song is in my head for 2 weeks now, always hummin, hummin, hummin....and i still love it :D don ross = superb!

  • Random ...

  • I'm debating with myself on whether this song, or Thin Air is Don Ross's best work

  • @sandy00720 He's playing sets of triplets at 2:49 or like shifting to a 3/4 time signature

  • That's how make love to a guitar, 2:49 got goose bumps.....sick.

  • That's how u mak

  • crazy "harmonic" play

  • gr8 musician but i notice one thing that in 2:49 he mess with rhythm but smartly get in track .watch from 2:40 to 2:53 u will get what im talking about ..but anyways he is gr8 musician.

  • @sandy00720 That could quite easily have been intentional, you'd have to ask Don or someone who's got the tabs :)

  • @BenShTurner You are obviously right ! How can someone say that Don Ross messes with rythm! He is such a master of rythm and groove! I think this is precisely what makes him special besides the other candyrat guys! His playing is brilliant, and this particular part of the song gives it a great taste ! There is no such thing as a rythm mistake. Searching for flaws in such amazing art is just pointless...

  • @QcMetalMusican Well, I never said it was or was not a flaw, I said it could have easily been intentional. But you would have to ask Don or check the tabs to know for sure. It seems more like it's an intentional change up to help reduce repetition in that segment to my ears.

  • @BenShTurner I meant to say that to state that I totally agree with you. It is intentional and it is probably how this song was made at its very creation. I did not pretend that you taught about any flaw, I just meant shame on sandy00720 as she did it..

  • @sandy00720 he doesn't mess up there, he's just playing staccato.

  • @sandy00720

... and you, on the other hand, mess with the English language and there's nothing smart about it.

If you actually listen to it, it's deliberate. I'm sure Don Ross makes mistakes but not here.

  • Is this from a DVD? I have his Live one but its definitely not this

  • 36 people wanted to click the "liked" button, but missed.

  • what tuning is he using?

  • @js100serch Low to High: C G Eb F G Bb

All of Don Ross' tunings can be found on his official website, donrossonline . com

  • If you listen closely you can hear the audience saying "Im not worthy." and "I bow to you oh guitar wizard."

  • if you want to be the best professional guitarist you'd have nails so you can use all fingers at the same time.

  • @FastZombie It's not so you can use all of your fingers....it's a tone and preference thing. Andy McKee uses bare skin, Sungha Jung uses finger picks, Don Ross and Trace Bundy use fake nails.

  • O.O

  • Those shouldn't be real nails, just the color already told.

  • i saw him play a while back and he said they're ping pong balls, just cut out to look like nails lol

  • His bottom E was out of tune for the first 3rd of this song... Did anyone even notice till he started playing it on its own? =/ True legend.

  • Are those fake nails? They seem to perfect to be real. If not, kudos

  • his nails are like guitar picks.. awesome music...

  • he looks like jesus if he were to eat all of his own musical awesomeness.

  • Is this played an open tuning?

  • @thintinonino Low to High: C G Eb F G Bb

    So, something like Cm7add4?

  • Wait, scratch that, I think it's Cm11...

  • Big Dick Don

  • @ameliofarts247 Sooo big....

  • Comment removed

  • Intro like Phase Dance (Pat Metheny)!!!!!!

  • wow this song is fucking beautiful

  • Everything about this is Royalty. The Guitar tone is outstanding, the composition is second to none, and the performance....the performance is hilariously good. ( He really does make those harmonics scream in pain)

  • Comment removed

  • i fwwl i need to state that atleast one of those dislikes was on accident : /

  • The harmonic part in this song is my favourite part :)

  • How can anyone not like this? I really mean it. If you clicked dislike post your explanation.

  • in the end I was disappointed for a few cheers ..... a masterpiece like this deserves much more consensus

  • That's probably Rob Poland's Lowden. You can find the same guitar in the video for Antoine Dufour's "Dracula And Friends Part I", Andy Mckee's early videos, and several more. If Rob would kindly give us some insight as to the guitar's model it would greatly be appreciated.

  • think this guy jerks off to his own videos? I would if I was that great..

  • @kai696 john fruciante used to masturbate when he soloed with one hand to his backing tracks:)

  • Are you kidding me!

    BEAUTIFUL!

There is certainly no shortage of inspiration...wow

  • Is that a Larrivee?

  • @BenJohnsonAcoustic

It's definitely a Lowden, but I'm not sure which model.

  • Lowden S25 or S35 possibly.

  • those harmonics are the most beautiful thing in the world

  • Sounds like the music from the first Hitman.

  • sounds very tropical! :)

  • This song makes you feel like your starting a long journey through a forest! great playing.

  • The 2:33 harmonic.

Good. Freaking. GOD. It sounds like singing.

  • @PancakesoftheLove

I know man, it resonates so well, its like when someone does that thing when they play wine glasses by rubbing their fingers along the rim, Don Ross is sooo good.

  • Comment removed

  • that was beastly!

  • AWESOME!

  • if 35 people dislike this because of ths music, they should at least have some respect for those nails

  • @bobbyflay

if 35 people dislike because of this music, then they're just down-right retarded

  • @tetsusaigaiy if 35 people dislike this because of the music, then they sold there soul to satan.. and probably are retarded 2..

    Don ross is great!!

  • @RetardMs

    \m/

  • @bobbyflay

LOL - But seriously, there is no reason to give a thumbs-down to this. 36 people are only able to click upon a random spot on the screen.

Seriously. Who can hate this mastery? ANSWER: Only the profoundly stupid.

  • @Mal3volution If you think about it, a dislike probably looks like a like from don ross's point of view

  • @Mal3volution Jelousy I would think.

  • @Mal3volution Or people who have a different taste in music. Don't be an assh*le.

  • @orbisnonsufficit0805

I see how it is then. While it's wrong for me to call those who give this a thumbs-down "profoundly stupid," it's perfectly okay for you to call me an "assh*le."

They call that hypocrisy - in short, insisting that others adhere to a principle you yourself violate - and it is NOT a virtue.

Through honest assessment, I now can call you "profoundly stupid." You took the troll-bait, and in doing so showed your stupidity. Own it.

    Have a nice weekend! :)

  • @Mal3volution You spent how many hours writing this? Lol. You got owned.

  • @Mal3volution Dude you can't pretend to be intellectual after you hate on people for doing what they like. The fact you think teasing me for being a good guy is an ego boost is pretty stupid. How can one be destroyed by someone no-one agree's with?

You can't make me rage with words so don't even try. Seriously man trying to hurt others to make yourself happy is wrong. Please stop and grow up. But if you must continue actually have an impact on someone. Just not phased :( try harder. ty.

  • @Mal3volution I like how you put it 'profoundly' stupid! haha

  • @Mal3volution or people who like Dubstep!!

  • @NoisyPC Hmm.. that sounds like a request for this to be made into a dubstep song! Challenge accepted..

  • @Adeptmind Don't do it!!!

  • @Mal3volution It's good to know there are only 40 of them out of the over half a million people that watched this video though!

  • @bobbyflay i agree, but the sad truth is those people probably loved it and were freaked out about the nails...

    x

  • @bobbyflay he uses acrylic nails bro

  • @bobbyflay ha ha well i guess u could jsut use finer picks too

  • @bobbyflay Those nails of his are actually acrylic nails applied at a salon :) He has them "tailor made" to fit his playing style.

  • 39 people never understood music

  • I can't figure out the Harmonics part, does anyone have a tab of just this part ? It's driving me crazy because it sounds so good !

    Thx in advance !

  • @Foxsleader

You have to go onto candyrat.com and purchase them with a credit card i'm pretty sure man, kinda gay cos I was hoping ultimate guitar would have one but if one pops up that,s free I'll let ya know.

  • 2:09 - 2:59 . .. . .those harmonics licks are like the cure for cancer

  • anyone know where to find a tab for this one ?

  • @jacecrawford gobyfish.com/Buy_Tablatures.html

    At Candyrat aswell I belive.

  • @jacecrawford If you go on gobyfish(dot)com, you can order the tab for 5 dollars ;) You can't find it on candy rat.

  • After learning this song, I must say, if you plan on playing anything else afterwards, in another tuning, BE SURE TO HAVE EXTRA STRINGS! :D

Been working on this and Afraid to Dance. -> 5. string changing from G in this tune to a B in Afraid to Dance will make your string pop like one out of two times :s LOVE TO PLAY YOUR MUSIC, BUT DAMN YOU MAKE ME BURST ALOT OF STRINGS! <3

  • @Flo0rless

Damn straight.. Don says he goes through 2 sets of strings per concert. What strings do you use? I like Elixirs, Martin Marquisse and Martin SP.

  • @ZebMacahan Martin SP :) .013 - .056. Got a better alternative for low tunings? Actually just bought a new guitar, so I got one for like Rockbarra and Klimbim with a really low 6. string, and then one for the tunes played in something closer to standard, dadgce and the ebdgce/ebdece.

  • I have yet to know a country that beat the holy trinity of Canada : Erik Mongrain , Antoine Dufour and Don Ross

  • @ForsakenGod23 How about the fact that Andy McKee and Michael Hedges grew up just over 100 miles apart!

  • @ForsakenGod23 take mongrain off that list and replace him with robert taylor. In fact i can think of dozens of Canadian guitarists who are better than mongrain, a few which are signed by candyrat. I'm Canadian and proud of our guitarists, but who cares where they came from as long as they keep making good music, so that I won't assassinate anyone in the mainstream music industry.

  • luv the part where he hits all the harmonics

  • It's a Lowden guitar. Looks to be om-sized model.. Not sure which one.

  • tuning PLEASE!!!!!

  • @PhantomCover go to his website gobyfish.com, all of his tunings are there.

    cheers

  • @PhantomCover

    C G Eb F G Bb - Kinda weird tuning i think! lol ^^

  • @SunburstGuitarsDan Nothing weird about it, it's a beautiful tuning. It's a low tuning, but it's SUCH a nice tuning. Just listen to the harmonics-part, wich is such a amazing part of the song, and only possible duo to the extreme nice tuning.

  • ... what guitar is that?

  • @bbguitar100 I think it's a Beneteau but I might be wrong.

  • don ross......great player.......

great guitar , lowden propably f35 sitka / rosewood

  • i love fingering :):):)

  • this and andy larkin are the best ever !! man i love it !!

  • Don Ross is a genius in Jazz! WOW!!!

  • wow amazing masterful :D

  • wonderful

    love this artist

  • I shall grow finger nails like that, my guitar teacher says. After this video i´m going to.

  • @musicfreak25195 Hmmm, look again, I bet they are applied nails, synthetic, you know - otherwise, how could he maintain them, keep them right for every show, practice, etc? I know a manicurist, she says she does quite a few guitarists - their nails, I mean. :)

  • Don Ross is the only person in the world to make crying harmonics....god bless him!!

  • Try Tommy Emmanuel. He's simply amazing. If you like Don's harmonics I'm pretty sure you'll love Tommy's. You tell me later.

  • @ForsakenGod23 Crying harmonics? what are those?

  • @hanklemieux123 I think he/she's referring to how hard Don's upstroking around 3:00. When it comes to fingerstyle techniques, the "official" names for them aren't well known, so a lot of people make names up themselves... although I'm not sure if Don invented that technique or not.

  • @ForsakenGod23

I'd say "judicious use" of harmonics, rather than abuse.

  • Hey Don,

    That is awesome guitar work!

    You make Canada proud!

  • usually i don't comment, but i have to say that i just can't get enough of this video

  • Hate to say it, but I think this is truly Don at his peak

  • picking then releasing*

  • how does he do that thing where it makes it sound like the guitar is taking a breath that is soooooo sick im guessing just strumming really close to the bridge or something similar?

  • @murda1991 now I just think its diminished harmonics or something cuz hes nowhere near the bridge when he does it I have no idea what hes doing to get that sound

  • @murda1991 hes pressing his finger against the 12 frets in a bar kinda bar chord postition and then picking

  • @murda1991 if you look, it is. He's using his pinky, not his first finger to do the harmonics

  • @murda1991 he's just doing 12th fret harmonics but... in a very special way..

  • @K1LL14N I believe he's picking a combination between 7th and 12th fret harmonics, and using dynamics to blend the notes to sound almost like you're underwater.
