i guess what i'm trying to say is that i like the movie, its adorable and romantic, its just... too perfectly wrapped up a package for a bunch of really hard, complicated issues. i'd love to see a queer movie that doesn't end with these (what some would call) straight "into the sunset" narratives.

Personally I think this movie has the perfect ending. And it is far from completely resolved.

The mother has lost her baby, although she knows he's in good care, and is living with a man she probably does not love.

The two men will still encounter predjudices, and problems with being gay later on in their relationship. The age gap is not perfect either.

The way you call the end " unreallistic happy ending" is not a good aproach to what the film is intended for. Those complicated issues were not totally solve just to let you think that a relationship with the mature guy and the young boy has to be built up with those issues in between.

I guess what I see is the possibility of a happy ending. When they show them at the end on the beach that is to only be a few months into the relationship. It gives the hope of a happy lasting relationship. Most of the gay movies I have seen have such sad endings. Btw - in this movie Zach is 22 and Shaun is in his early 30s per the actors in an interview. Overall though -great movie and finally a happy love story.

hm, maybe i mean idealistic - a 19 year old and a 32ish year old see each other for a month and move in together with a child "happily ever after"; he faces no real problems coming out to his family even though they were solidly homophobic at the beginning of the film; realistically a 19 year old coming out isn't going to be staying with a 32 year old for more than a couple of years, what happens to cody when he's 8, will 21 year old zack raise him
