  • Some idiot said mutes can't speak -___- gtfo if you dont know what you're talking about

  • Me and my friends like to do sign language when we rnt supposed to talk and switched at birth never brought me here

  • No matter why people are here, the point is we all want to learn to sign better, so quit the bickering and just learn. Learn because ultimately you want to.

  • Wait a sec... How can you tell a deaf person to be quiet o.O

  • @XenOfOrrinoco Same way you tell everyone else (Shh! *with index finger to lips). . . now a mute person might be more difficult

  • angry is kinda different on switched at birth...it's crazy how much i've already picked up.

  • Who the freak raises thier eye brows when theyre mad? My bff is deaf n she lowers them. NOT raises

  • Now why the hell would you need to tell a deaf person to be quiet?

  • @Pein740 lol!

  • @Pein740 Being deaf does not mean you can't make noise...

  • @Pein740 Maybe they are being noisy. You shouldn't need to tell a mute person though, cuz they can't speak.

  • i already know sign language even better then she does

  • iv made it my life's mission to learn sign language

  • Switched at birth brought me here

  • Switched at birth didn't bring me here, my passion for sign language did.

  • I understand that certain sign are different depending on different areas and regions but I feel like this video has drastically different signs for these words that i've learned...they don't look anything like the ones I know...

The are different types if sign language. Some people do it differently then others.

  • super to je :)

  • she is so wrong .. mad is wrong and anger is wrong and bad is wrong, people if u really want to learn how to sign, ur better off taking out a book from the library

  • Just as a side question.... When would a deaf person need to use "quiet"? I mean...it's like them signing "your music is too loud".

Also, I'm not sure what "switched at birth" is that everybody is talking about. Answer?

  • @Stormith Switched at Birth is a Tv show on ABC family

  • @ilovemydog911 No one cares why you're here.

I'm here because I want to learn sign language, not because of switched at birth.

  • this chick lol

  • I am a SPED major, but some of her signs are wrong.

  • @ninjaiswhatiwannabe which ones then???? and whats the correct way? and wats a sped????

  • Hello people who are saying that ASL has nothing to do with talking. Yes you are right but this woman is not teaching deaf people. And if you are trying to learn ASL it's gonna be hard if she isn't telling you what she is signing.

  • @marlin187 no you retard its for people who cant talk

  • What about happy, joy, love, hope and all those feelings?

  • ive learned how to do bad dog in sign langauge

    thank you very much :D

  • Comment removed

  • awh! thats a deadly attack mad, I hit myself in the face!

  • Try and press 4! :D

  • Is this like, for gangs?

  • can anyone tell me where to go to learn the correct way to sign language

  • I think the cry sign is wrong

  • @MsUreshii No its correct..I've taken a ASL class

  • Ahhhh, The EXPERT VILLAGE IDIOT has yet another lame and inaccurate video. Vote her thumbs down! She is an insult to the Deaf Community and intelligent people everywhere!!

  • I learned how to sign later, stop, clock, yesterday and sorry! Wait...

  • vocabulary is not language.

  • I guess I should get a job TEACHING CHINESE, I have a book about it. LOL.

This woman is just exploiting the current popularity of sign language and has no idea what she is talking about.

  • I know your intentions are very good but you are not in a position to "Teach".

  • The way this is presented, in a technical sense, is equivalent to saying that someone is using English and Chinese at exactly the same time. People need to understand that visual languages, although they are equivalent to spoken languages, do NOT share the same physical properties of sound and are produced using only movement, shape and space and visual memory.

  • My point was that "Sign Language" and "English" are two separate and distinct languages, it is important for people to understand that "Signed English" is still ENGLISH in structure and grammar. Your cousin will not and has no reason to learn "American Sign Language" which has no basis in phonics and cannot be used simultaneously as the human brain cannot process two languages at the same time. I am trying to educate people on the difference VISUAL languages and languages that use sound.

  • Her signs for the concepts - Anger, Mad, Quiet and Bad - are all incorrect. Her sign for the concept - Cry - is also very awkward and uses the wrong facial expression (her expressions are almost always inaccurate anyways). This video, along with all her other videos are absolutely horrible! If anyone truly wants to learn how to sign ASL accurately, please do not watch these videos. Vote THUMBS DOWN and look for better sources such as LifePrint (google it) or my channel.

  • Thank you.

  • I love these lessons and, since I've watched quite a few, I noticed that this particular one uses the CC of another clip, the one about the clock, stop, etc.

Otherwise she does a great job and it's nice to have lessons where they explain more than 2 words.

  • A friend of mine is deaf...i wanna be friends with her becuz she seems nice :)

  • Why do you have the text covering the whole video?

  • love all ur videos. i cudnt afford to take classes so i decide to come on youtube n found u

  • Thank you! Just image a tall girl signing thank you :)

  • love it!

  • she different sign quiet

  • I thought quiet was how u did it but with b classifiers?

  • and these are common everyday words becuz...?

  • To learn SIGN LANGUAGE YOU CANNOT BE SPEAKING!!!

You need to remap your brain to encode and decode language visually.

You are no EXPERTS at LINGUISTICS! This is truly a DIS SERVICE TO everyone.

It take the average person 7 to 10 years to become fluent in Sign Language, it uses a grammer and sintax that uses space and visual memory. IT has no relationship to sound.

Also this women has an irritating LOUD and BIG mouth!

Get real people! This is NOT LANGUAGE LESSON!

  • @pognyc you can be able to speak and still learn sign lanuage. my cousin is 13 and speaks english just the way anyone else does, but also uses sign language on a regular basis along with english, if people find this video helpful, then they do.

  • You are EXPLOITING people here and MISLEADING THE PUBLIC.

    .

  • You should probably point out that you are simply teaching VOCABULARY and stop calling these "LANGUAGE" lessons.

Sign Languages, there are several hundred, have complex grammar, structure and use space and visual memory in the way that spoken languages cannot.

  • BOBO KA TEACHER SIGN LANGUAGE WRONG Teacher fuck u

    IN McSaid Pls enter ok!

  • I rated this video one star, "poor" because this person is not qualified to be teaching ASL. If anyone watching this really wants to learn ASL, find a real ASL teacher to learn from. On YouTube, there is a Deaf teacher of ASL named Rob Nielson (BYUFanatic) who posts excellent videos for beginning to learn ASL. I highly recommend him. He is slow, clear, and 100% correct.

  • In every sign language video I see people are complaining, so fuck it I dont wanna communicate with the deaf... I'll just give them the finger. You people are assholes !!!

  • iSeenthatB4, people complain when the information presented is misleading or incorrect. If you went to videos where the information was correct, you wouldn't see complaints.

  • @Banerika Then make your own video and explain to us ....that can work

  • I'm not an ASL teacher or a sign language expert myself, so I will not be making any videos teaching ASL. However, there are authentic sources of accurate information on ASL online, including a Deaf ASL teacher who posts videos on YouTube, "BYUFanatic."

  • @Banerika thank you ill look her/him up

  • Jann

    WRONG SIGN BOBO TEACHER?

  • @Banerika thank you thank you sooo much for telling about that channel!! not only am i confident that the signs are right but it's also easier to learn with out sound and just seeing what to do! thanks again!!

  • @johnnydepplovers, you're welcome!

  • how to greet people-good evening ladies and gentlemen? thanks.

  • ThePridePanda, look elsewhere for instruction on sign language, perhaps look for a real ASL teacher instead of a person masquerading as one. Melissa has no qualifications to teach sign language and makes mistakes in almost every video.

  • she skipped Singing...

  • are the people at expert village on

    Drugs or just Dumb?

the captions are WRONG on alot of their videos

  • which are wrong?

  • None of the signs are wrong!

the subtitles are!! LOOK!!! as you watch the video! they are NOT Right.

  • @BreezyBrisbane ALL of the signs she presents in this video are inaccurate.

  • I work with people who are mentally/physically challenged. Many of them are being taught Sign when it is hard or impossible for them to speak or hear.

Although I usually just use the "sign" for quiet that most people use with just the one finger to the lips.

  • ur really ....

  • talking in sign language is talking.

  • Deaf and mute aren't the same thing. Deaf kids can make all the noise in the world talking, they may not say things properly but unless they are mute they can make sound, and some noise is made with the body, bashing on pots and pans etc. Silly silly fucking question.

  • well thx you very much, Now know and knowing is half the battle! GGGGGIIIIIIII joe. lol!

  • @zinechik420 I <3 switched at birth of course its why

  • i have a deaf kid in my class and this really helps

  • wow this is horrible wrong

i go to FSDB wich is a deaf school she got anger wrong mad is the wrong way and quiet

you can just shush them lol

  • It's not wrong. Do you study ASL at FSDB? There is also different ways to say things. Even in speaking 'yes' for example can be; yup, yeah, uh huh, etc. And yes I took classes in college in ASL and I have a friend that is deaf and is presently attending Gallaudet. And we communicate fine.

  • so how do you do mad and quiet??

  • has anyone noticed that in the sidebar it says different words than she says??

  • yeah, i was going to comment about it but i couldn't think of how too put it

  • where are you learning your signs...i think someones playing a bad joke on you = /

  • my dads deaf and he told me that she got some wrong but thatz okay.

  • my hearing impaired friend told me there isn't really a "right" or "wrong" way of signing. everyone has a slightly different way of doing it just like we all have accents, dialects, and idioleks.

  • Hi there, while it's true there are regional accents, this is not an accent, this is someone doing it wrong because 1) the person is not Deaf and 2) the person is not an ASL teacher and has no qualifications and 3) looks like she learned SEE, which is not ASL and pretty much useless for communicating with Deaf people. It's like trying to talk to French people using esperanto.

  • Thanks, yes, after you learn grammar, these sites (ASL Pro and Signing Savvy) can be helpful to students as a reference.

  • To learn ASL, find someone who is Deaf, a qualified teacher of ASL, or both. Do not rely on a TV broadcast personality just *acting* like an expert, she is not an expert. If Deaf people are telling you she is doing it wrong, BELIEVE THEM.

  • ha my dads deaf and he told me she got some wrong

  • Would u mind telling me which ones she did wrong because I'm trying to learn sign language

  • well he told me she did mad and quiet wrong

  • thanx

  • She totally did get mad and quiet wrong!! my ASL teacher & tutor even signed so Dx Plus, I thought she might have been doing the other signs for mad or quiet, since there is two different ways but nooo :( what a drag.

  • Learn from someone Deaf or an ASL teacher (or someone who is both), not from a random broadcast journalist who is just faking it.

  • Im from Brazil, and I have been studying LIBRAS (Brazilian Sign Language) for one and a half year. I just read a post which says some signs are wrong. I dont now if they really are, but I would like to confirm that, because you have to be pretty responsible when you teach something. Just a curisity: The "mad" sign is equals to he "good" sing in Libras.

    Kisses from Brazil =D

  • you need to stop teaching sign!!!! your teaching things so wrong! if people try to sign to a deaf person using some of these signs... they are going to look retarded! no one should try to learn sign from this women! ask a deaf person not her!

  • I am a student Nurse and I was just yesterday with a group of disabled children as part of my pediatric class, and this children where not only deaf, but they had other mental disabilities and I suddenly felt so ...... not needed xD.... and I just want to learn this to be able to work with them in the future just a bit...

  • omg i want to become a Pediatric Nurse! :D

  • Then you go for it ma' !!! It's the best really. I have decided to go into Metal health/Psychiatric Nurse. I saw this Psychiatric Nurse who helped children too, those who have Autism and what not. I just loved it, so yeah, plus it's an interesting branch!!! You go for it girl ^^

  • haha Thanks! :D

  • The deaf person who has ASL videos for expertvillage knows what she is doing. Watch her instead.

  • I am deaf myself and am thrilled to see instructional videos like this online for the public to learn. I d like to point out that I have not seen other parts, but the signing of "mad" and "quiet" are not correct.

  • Is there any way you can tell us? haha....

  • I love these video's! I'm now addicted to learning this language. Along with my friends who I teach new words to at school. Hopefully soon we'll just sit in class without having to talk :)

  • New Hobby: learning Sign Language! Very Helpful!!! Thumbs Up!!!

    sharon suico

    cebu,phillipines

  • this videos are really good . i want to learn it because my friend is deaf and i want to be able to talk with her ..x

    and i have EM

  • That's ridiculous you don't have to be deaf to teach sign language... Great vid thanks

  • really should be taught by a Deaf person

  • i recognize this lady from a news station in canada, i think she's from 'A Channel' (channel 10) news in Ontario.

  • this videos are really good . i want to learn it because my friend is deaf and i want to be able to talk to him ..x

  • Thanks all the videos where amazing and she is such a great teacher. Will there be more videos soon? with sentences maybe?
