  • There's dozens of cooking shows on tv, why not anything interesting like this?!

  • i saw something about printing solar cells then i saw something about bio polymers and that some might be conductive and some are made from glucose i am wondering if these can be integrated in with bio plastic to make bio plastic solar cells. unfortunately i dont have much knowledge about chemistry. so i am wondering if you might know if these bio plastics could be turned into solar cells to run a home on

  • This is the best video I have ever seen on homemade plastic. Thank you.

  • How can we remove vinegar smell from bioplastic?

  • This is the type of material I have been researching out to make the body for a human powered car concept I have been working on. I liked the application of this on the mesh. I would like to try it on carbon fiber if it can go inflexible (stiff) enough.

Three years and over 100.000 views and people are still interested. Nice work. Nice work indeed.

  • How many days should I wait for it to dry?

  • @greenplasticnet can you do me a favor? please I'm begging you. Can you send me the procedure in making biodegradable plastic through email. It is my project. I'm begging you sir. this is my email. hannikoo_06@yahoo.com

  • @introchorus27 I can send you an email, but the best and most complete answer is in the articles on our website, green-plastics net. There you will find several articles for different recipes and procedures for different types of bioplastic.

  • I have some questions please answer.

How do you clean the pot?

How long until the plastic drys?

And what type/company of glycerin did you use?

  • can you do it without the glycerin???

  • Hi!, Nice video, i'm trying to do it. Today i bought the glycerin... But takes to long to harden, it's a way to accelerate the process?

  • @mrsoneji You can try putting it in a dry, cool place. Alternately, some people have reported good results gently blowing it with a hairdryer from time to time. But overall, you do have to be patient. Depending on the formulation you use and how thick your end result it, it can take up to several days to dry.

  • more like bio-rubber

  • @downhillflyer2014 The more plasticizer you use (that's the glycerol) the more pliable the end result will be. You can create hard, inflexible plastic by drastically reducing the amount of glycerine you use.

  • could u name all th ingredient again?

  • @WanderingStars97 They are listed on our website! Click on the "Videos" tab.

  • could i make a hard plastic from corn starch?? can it only be on gelatin or algae??

  • @jomie1000 This is tough, because when you are producing plastic using this "cooking at home" method, corn starch tends to produce a very WEAK plastic. So it is difficult to do anything but films. (The "corn starch utensils" that you see in the store are manufactured using a different process that requires special equipment, so you can't do it at home).

  • What is that little bottel? i cant hear you...

  • @wezeltje100 There is a transcript of the entire video in the "Videos" section of our website!

  • @wezeltje100 glycerin is what he says

  • could you make raw material for a reprap?

  • thank you so much this is very helpful!

  • using this video for my gr 12 chem experiment tmrw...haha thanks for the upload (:

  • How can I make a mold?

  • i noticed in the video and the plastic was flexible...

how would you make a hard solid plastic?

please thumbs up so other people will can see this too!!!

  • @hjkjasper We actually JUST posted several articles on our green-plastics dt net website about how to make inflexible bioplastic. Just look in the "discussion" section! You can make it from algae or from gelatin. The key is to use very little plasticizer.

  • @hjkjasper We have several recipes for hard, solid bioplastic on our website!

  • make biodegradable drinking glassed. the glass will disappear

  • @trey54980 "biodegradable" does not mean it will dissolve in water. In fact, people do make and sell biodegradable plastic cups.

  • @trey54980 Well, no. "Biodegradable" doesn't mean it will dissolve. It means that over time it will be broken down by microbes, when exposed to air, sun, and the environment. So that takes some time.

  • it's a great replacement for liquid latex actually. the one for makeup :? e.g. Halloween.

  • Very Cool!

  • would appreciate it if u had used SI. I don't know what are "tablespoon" and "teaspoon"

  • @tetleydidley google "convert tablespoon to milliliter" and you will be fine.

  • can you send me the materials because on this video i cant listen the components the sound is bad.. please

  • looks like a bunch of guys kizzed in the pot

  • Hi, great eye opener.

Several questions to ask, if you have the time:

What is the setting time for this?

Have you tried these plastics in casts yet?

Is there a mix for making it less pliable (other than making it thick)?

  • @Neilisin Adding more starch or glycerin *might* make it less pliable, but I can't say for sure.

  • How resilient is this, will it start to break down if I pee on it?

Can I leave it outside, will ants eat it?

  • While this is an interesting lesson , why not just melt existing plastics and make things? There are dumpsters full of plastic and land fills and plastic is everywhere you go that can be melted with not a lot of heat and turned into things

  • @gabehampton o you mean recycle lol duh

  • @gabehampton the reason you shouldn't just melt existing plastic is because when melted certain kinds are toxic.

    Example PVC piping.

  • I'm in love with u just because you like to take care of the planet:)

  • great

  • can you eat it ? because if you could, then if you wrapped a sandwich with it, you wouldn't even have to unwrap it, you could just eat the bag right along with it !!

  • How long does this plastic last? I'm in the process of making a costume out of cardboard and would like to use this as a coating for it.I don't want it to start falling apart on me.

    Thanks!

  • u should list the materials in the info bar

  • how are you supposed to mold it? i made it this way and poured it into molds but they won't come out because they're too sticky.. help!

  • gr8 my friend . way to go .

  • could this be used in molds to make figurines?

  • i made cool things =D

  • Do you know the chemical formula of this bioplastic? I just want to be sure I get it right.

  • Thanks for the video, I've given it a try.

Mine turned out like a gel, like that fake skin stuff. Seems Zsofy06 had the same problem.

Any idea how I can make it more like a hard plastic like the forks and knives?

I'd appreciate the help, looking to make a costume, possibly Iron Man.

  • @keithdevries000

Mine is like a gel that's hard on the edges....

    Wonder what went wrong.

  • @Myrandomnesscat You may have used too much plasticizer, or you may not have waited long enough for it to dry. You might want to try again with slightly different proportions of the starch and plasticizer, to see what happens.

  • Thanks man, the video's great.

Mine turned out like a gel, like that fake skin stuff.

Any ideas on how I can make it a hard plastic like the plastic forks and knives?

  • Hey is there anything we can use in place of glycerin? It wasn't around before davinci...

BTW, thx for helping me with the tech project. <3

  • how to you put color in it?

  • dye?

  • @packdelouves

    gosh

  • @xxpunkunicornxx278 gosh? Yea wow, that helps...lol.

  • ummm....my plastic is like rubber

  • can i use this 2 make a cup??

  • Can i make a shank with it, or a helmet? I need to prepare for the Apocalypse lol

  • gd work

  • Hello my work did not result as shown in the Video Tutorial.

Something is wrong, I hope to correct my mistake, what I did is:

Mix a tablespoon of water, glycerin, wine vinegar, and cornstarch. I did boil until the mixture becomes transparent white.

Result: I hope two days until it finishes dry. I put soaked in water and is easy to shred with fingers. It does not seem plastic. I hope to answer. especially do I have to do to dry quickly and is really plastic.

  • @MrPadrecito007 your first step was wrong! he says FOUR tablespoons of WATER!!

and a TEASPOON of glycerin(NOT TABLESPOON).....and again a TEASPOON OF WINE VINEGAR!!

    hope this helped.

  • GOOD WAY TO HELP THE ENVIROMENT!!(IM NOT SAYING THAT IN A BAD WAYY!)

  • What's the best plastic y ou can make at home? I'm making a video game controller case and it's SUPER BASic like a rectangular prism with a few holes in it

  • is there any substitution for glycerin?...

  • ok, so if i were 2 put this in a mold for like, a 12 inch figure of a person with some paint on it after it drys will it be about the same as normal plastic? except the fact its hallow of coarse

  • + . +

Voy a hacerlo con mis estudiantes (I will make it with my students), aqui en Guatemala (here in Guatemala), I will inform you about results!!!

  • Hi Friend, can you write for me what are the ingredients? ... thank you

  • My understanding is that PLA is not suitable for home composting ?

100% PLA products are said to be compostable in industrial type processes (55-60C) where conditions can be guaranteed to allow the process to work. Platicisers into the formulation can detract from this capability and this is quite an important point since plasticizers are often necessary as part of the PLA formulation to give necessary product properties.

  • does a microwave work?

  • sorry guys but this is bioplastic, which can ONLY degrade in industrial composting

Also, as it is difficult to separate compostable plastics from other plastics, many industrial composters do not want plastic of any kind in their feedstock, and it is not suitable for home-composting. Compostable plastics damage the recycling process if they get into in a normal plastic recycling waste stream.

  • @TheLinglo

you dont need to recycle, this one you can throw it away.

  • AHAHAHAH!!! AT 2:00 IT LOOKS LIKE C*M

  • excuse me can you tell me what is the white little bottle ??? thanks

  • @the93flash glycerin

  • i had done the experiment...but the problem is the plastic is not as strong as the video show...it is soft, till can be torn very easily...wat is going wrong ?

  • @tanch0700817 You are adding too much glycerin, the less glycerin you add the stronger its the plastic, the more glycerin you add the weakest its the plastic.

  • wat is tat scientific name of the product ??

  • Comment removed

  • will it harden if you take more plastic?

  • 2:35 .. with what?

  • Gauze, a cloth that is most well known to be used for gauze bandages.

  • @Carver47 Ah, I see. Thanks.

  • def a fav. Great video

  • can you please tell me what are the ingredients? thanks.;D

  • Water, vinegar, starch and glycerine

    I think that's it

  • Do you know the heat tolerance of this plastic once it has dried?

  • You can also microwave starch and water and it works, its easier but you also don't have as good of product.

  • eya cuz we all just have glyrcerin lying around our house, come in handy for making those rockets!

  • This is what we'll use when the oil runs out.

  • hey I use this video for a proyect... it was more like a contets.. and my team won!!! so thanks for making the video...

  • hey i need help. i decided to use your toturial to make bioplastic for my project. But it didn't turn out too well. Heres what i did :

I mixed corn starch with water and vinegar and stir it when its still cool and after its completely mixed. i heat it up and started cooking, without glycerine(is it compulsary?)...The end product didn't turn out transparent and gel-like. it was more thick and paste-like and not transparent at all. Its yellowish in colour. What should i do?

  • @SouLzFuSe add glycerin. It can be bought at CVS and other pharmacies for around $5-7.

  • hmm can you add say alcohol to the mix preferably methonol because thats bidegradable to and have it dry faster? and can you add more starch to make a thicker and mer durable plastic? and is their any material that you could add to it to make it moldable rather than a goop like you had?

  • damn genious

  • can any body list the ingredients??! ty

  • well...if i m right...they are: water, starch, glycerine, vinegar (?)

  • Hey very informative video. Im actually planning on vaccuum forming HDPE plastic into canoe's and assorted things, but i might try using this instead. I have a couple of questions though if you don't mind..First, how did you get different colours (would food colouring work)? Also, would bio plastic be suitable for canoe's (seeing as how it is biodegradable, how long will it last)? Thanks and great video!

  • hey did you make anything yet?

  • Can you mold this stuff into something thicker and less flexible?

  • do this plastic thing , when submerge to water will melt like margarine....thanks. im planning to make it a outer covering for my future aquarium..thanks again..

  • I think that's the point, it's supposes to be a biodegradable plastic. Not for water, but that's just my guess.

  • It won't "melt" in water. It's biodegradable, which means that if you put it in a compost heap, the microbes will eat it and eventually it will turn into (basically) soil. But that doesn't mean it will "melt like margarine".

  • what is cure time and can this be injected into silicone mold

  • Very cool stuff, man. I'd like to talk with you more about this. Fishrecycler[at]RecycledFish[dot]org.

  • do u have to use glycerin? WHere did u get your glycerin?

  • Glycerin can be bought at any drugstore or chemists.

  • You can put this in to paper? it deforms if you put it?

  • Thanks mate... If you can make it as thin or as thick as you want it dose that mean you can also mould it?

  • Awesome dude! Thanks for the info!

  • I would like to if you've made more complicated designs like rain barrels, pipes, shaped products for electronics.I particulary interested in rain barrels but I don't know if It takes alot of those ingreditents to make a 30 gallon and the heat, warping from wieght, leching from the plastic, and biodegradability, thanks.

  • Please can u tell me what is the ingredient that u have next to the vinegar?

  • Isn't it glycerin ? That's what most soaps are made of.

    Correct me if I'm wrong...

  • It is. There is glycerin you can buy for soap making.

  • whats the ingredient next to the viengar?

  • You're saving the world! I love u man:D

  • we could make our cars out of this to save the planet. bathroom sinks and toilet bowls , boats, artificial teeth, credit cards, school id cards, high school diplomas, voter id cards, condoms, class rings, cd dvd, gay marriage license, computer keyboards, awesome dude
