Looks like the Botox is working for Catherine (is it?). I like to know who did her hair during the late-60's and early 70's? Because it was so thick and long that I thought for a moment Deneuve was sporting Raquel Welch's look!
@55honor Funny... at first I thought you were the ultimate tosser but within a matter of days you've become quite the mensch! (And no, I'm not Jewish or German either :-) ) Godspeed to you Sir!
@55honor Honor! We cool now... But I thought you Scots had an affinity with the Irish? What's your beef with them? I don't do footie but is it that 'sectarian divide' we hear so much about?
Anyway, take care mate, I withdraw some of my more malicious comments... Nice to have met you...
my french isn't 2 good but I noticed she used the "popular" classes in contrast 2 the rich classes. In spanish the popular classes r the poor ones. In America that's a bit of an oxymoron lol. I like how Craig says "poor" :P
I love TLLS and The Umbrellas Of Cherboug is probabbly my fave musical ever!
Interesting for Catherine to mention Clint Eastwood. She had an affair with him back in the mid-1960s, when she was very young. Far too classy to mention that on the show though.
@DominoPetachi83 You're right Sir! She is the living definition of 'class' (and, not wanting to be too crude, for someone pushing 70 she is about as sexy as a woman can be!!!)
This is one of the best interviews with Catherine I have ever seen! She's not usually this happy and upbeat when she has interviews in America, but maybe that's because she usually talks to Charlie Rose when she's in America and he's much more serious than the late night shows. I enjoyed this a lot, I've loved Catherine for many years now, I have all of her movies, in fact my favorite movie of all times is actually "8 Femmes".
@hilsestraat haha, me, too. she's really wonderful. and the fact that she can joke around in english is so inspiring! i've been studying french for a few years and i could never achieve that fluency she has with english. lol, i love the part when craig's like, "We have an 'h!'" and she's all, "So do we! So do we!" haha. and the part when she's all, "You weren't there yet."
this is one of the best craig interviews ive ever seen.
they have AMAZING chemistry. lol. this is the first time i've ever seen her so relaxed in an interview. im sure there are tons that i just haven't seen.
i love craig...best late night guy there is cuz he always makes me laugh. "...London, huh? ....Didn't see you there either...." hahahaha.
Toujours aussi belle Catherine Deneuve! Cette interview change des interviews qu'elle fait d'habitude pour la tv française ou elle est assez réservée :)
@gilles574 Deneuve has not had plastic surgery and you can tell in closeup photos. She's also nearly ten years younger than Bardot so obviously she will likely look better.
@gilles574 She has said in many, many interviews that she would be too afraid to go under the knife. She has however had botox if I remember right...which would give her a slight difference in appearance. I think she is still absolutely gorgeous, talented, and oh-so chic--love her!:)
It's amazing to believe Catherine Deneuve is almost 70 and still looks great! She should have gotten more recognition here in the States. Very underrated as an actress!
@tenmagirl Well those are American actresses you are comparing her to. Catherine has only done like 4 American films in her entire career. French cinema is very different and much more nuanced.
But Catherine is definately a legend. At age 67 (she looks at least fifteen years younger) she is still a romantic lead and has been making films for 54 years....it is hard to believe it has been that long. A timeless beauty.
Craig did fine. Honestly, Catherine is a hard interview because she's relatively reserved and not used to the type of rambunctiousness of the show, she has a bit of a harder time being witty using a non native language, and the audience generally knows nothing about French films or how big she really is. It limits Craig, so he stuck to what the audience knows about.
WOW he lost half of the interview talking about paris and the other half talking about how they were gonna end the interview...COME ON, CRAIG its catherin deneuve
I love this interview so much that I still have it on my dvr book. Catherine is amazing. She seems to be a bit shy. Anyways I heart her to pieces. By the way there's nothing wrong with the face are dress.
@PasDideeDePseudo Well when I walked in the room I sat down and heard them and I subtly turned to see them, then once more but this time I heard laughter and the girl was staring straight at ME laughing and she wasn't even bothering turning away and the whole time the guy was talking in her ear. Then later I went to them and asked them if they were speaking french and they nodded. The whole time I was speaking, they were looking down or nodding their head.It was the weirdest convo I've ever had!
Whau! What a great moment. Wonderful to see how she's shy, super-sweet and even seems humble, even though she's such a big star, in the best sense of the word. And sweet how he seems so infatuated with her aswell;)
Is it just me or do we all think Craig has a massive crush on her?
I like that it's a little awkward. It's quite funny and endearing. I think it's just a little tension. But it makes it interesting.
I think he asks such boring questions such as "where were you born", not for the viewers sake, but his own. He's genuinely interested. It sets Craig apart as an interviewer.
I think Craig got a bit star struck. Meeting someone so amazing through him off of his normal game. I loved her and I thought this was a great interview. Yes it got kind of awkward in the end but, like someone said previously, it was cute.
for everyone being mean to andrewichigo...I remember hearing two people speak french and I started conversing with them in french and neither of them said anything to me they just nodded their heads and said nothing and I thought that was rude and I even welcomed them "Bienvenue aux etats unis" NOT everyone in france is a deuche but if it is a minority, the stories I've heard from very kind people haven't had very pleasant stays in France... maybe it's a parisian thing
@halifaxx55 Yes it's more Parisian, but you have to understand that in France, we don't talk to much to people we don't know, and maybe they thought you were making fun of them.
If it was people who didn't know you, I think they considered it to be a bit rude and intrusive from you to interrupt their converstion. Generally, I think we have more "retenue" (restraint ?) towards people we don't know, here in France.
J'adore france
What a nice change to see her feeling at ease; completely unlike the way she looks whenever she appears on French TV shows. She didn't even mind the puns!
This was not his day at all. First he got nothing talking w th Topher who tried his best to carry the conversation and then he got nothing talking to one of the most adored old school french cinema stars. Even she knew him asking where she was born was boring. She worked with pretty much with all of the great french directors of the past and present. That alone would be enough to fill an hour ....
Jacques Demy, Roman Polanski, Agnès Varda, Marcel Camus, Philippe de Broca, Luis Buñuel,
Jean-Paul Rappeneau, Roger Vadim, Edouard Molinaro, Stuart Rosenberg, François Truffaut, Bob Aldrich, Nadine Trintignant, Claude Lelouch, Jean-Pierre Melville, Claude Berri, Alain Corneau, Yves Robert, André Téchiné, Régis Wargnier, Leos Carax, Philippe Garrel, Raoul Ruiz, Manoel de Oliveira,
and many other of the most fascinating directors ever.
@gulllars That's the beauty/beast of this show and improv in general I think. Craig is an improv guy and he'll stick to those guns no matter the situation.
Craig asked her how she got along with Clint Eastwood...she had sex with him according to a biography on Clint. Catherine was very young, about 22, and Clint was 35 or 36.
Well, she was genuine and Craig tried to connect, but there was certainly a disconnect. Though it was an earnest effort from both sides. But I still like the interview. The awkwardness was really fun!
Also, I guess no one else in American TV can do a better job with a guest like her than our own Craigyferg
I was just looking at photos of Catherine when she was young, she had a striking resemblance with Mia Kirshner. I bet if Mia dyed her hair blond or if Catherine dyed her hair black, they'd look very much alike. I guess I can see what Mia will look like in her 60's.
I'm living in France at the moment, and one of the things I noticed is that the word 'awkward' doesn't really translate. You end up having to say 'uncomfortable' which mostly means physically, which may be why she didn't really understand. Loved it!
So surprised by Deneuve's fluency when she speaks English! She does not hesitate, is capable of expressing herself clearly... Marion Cotillard and Audrey Tautou still have so much to learn!
I love Craig and he rarely can do wrong, but... Catherine Deneuve is the SECOND guest? I don't care who the first guest is, Catherine Denueve should never go second!
"[P]roving that one of the silliest hours on television...could also be one of the smartest." --The Peabody Awards
I've watched this interview four times now. Thank you so much Craig for introducing me to one of the great beauties of cinema. She's so dignified and effortlessly cool (even if she was nervous, poor darling). Have her on again post-haste! and any other foreign film stars, eccentric university professors, and Nobel laureates for that matter!
@nickstoli That's strange, actually. I don't think I've seen other chat shows, outside of american ones, do it like that. Normally the lower guest goes first... like a band has a supporting band first on and then it's the main act?
I'm sure most of you have seen Parkinson or Jonathan Ross. Fodder first, big name last.
Ah well.
In this case it was probably an advertising thing. Topher's movie was more important for the ad people.
If I've learned something from Craig Ferguson, it's: "DO NOT JUDGE" So who cares, french or american or anybody else... we all love the guy and his show!
The interview is adorable. I think they're actually intimidated. Both of them.
Two things happened: The show got all classy ! She's one of the most important guests ever, also... I think I'm in love with her :b, she's lovely and subtle, humble and feminine, if only she was 21.
this was one of craig's rare disappointing interviews. he asked dumb questions and came across as the uneducated fool he certainly isn't. deneuve is NOT AT ALL a diva. I saw numerous interviews with her. she is shy and distant and she adores a good laugh and strange, interesting interviewers. it's a shame craig, who - often enough - can be strange, funny and interesting as an interviewer, didn't manage to be himself in front of this goddess of european cinema. this could have been enormous fun.
Craig himself hinted that the French are arrogant in the interview. Sorry guys it's not just an American thing the French are known to be this way the world over.
@andrewichigo : See, I don't think that's true. Some french people have an enormous ego, sure, like plenty of other people elsewhere in the world, there are no borders for the way people behave. I'm sorry if your encountered haughty french people but 65 million people don't have the same behaviour, generalizations like this aren't very smart. And some of us do speak a little bit of english (btw, it would be better to write "I know what I'm talking about" instead of "I know what I talk about").
@andrewichigo I am from Europe and i'm telling you that you don't know what are you talking about. Only Americans have stupid stereotypes for french or as a matter of fact any nation. ppl in europe like french as any other nation. and maybe you have enormous ego coz you think averybody should speak english.
@andrewichigo Generally I never respond to comments but I'm french, (I understand english btw) and I don't despise people who are not french because really? That's just stupid, moreover because it seems like YOU are despising french people.
Oh and I think you made a mistake it's I know wht I'm talking about.
Oh and if I were despising people who're not french, would I love Craig? Would I Laugh everytime I watch one of his show? Would I dream of attending to one of his show? Don't think so.
@FuckingYusMate I don't know what this argument was about lol, but I love french people, especially Madame Deneuve!!:) And yes, people need to get over it, the french are fabulous, and chic, and delightful.
@barbras7 Someone said that she was despising non-french people, because french despise everyone or something like that. And I thought that was stupid so I answered xD
I don't know if we're fabulous or anything xD but I know I don't despise non-french people or the ones who don't speak french. That would be dumb xDD
@andrewichigo I'm Canadian and living in France for five years... of course facing a different culture is always a little hard... but if you close your mind to others like what you just said and of course people won't be nice to you french, americain, english, where ever they are from. I have one thing to say... tant pis pour toi... reste ignorant !
damn she got fat

I love Craig and he rarely can do wrong, but... Catherine Deneuve is the SECOND guest? I don't care who the first guest is, Catherine Denueve should never go second!

"[P]roving that one of the silliest hours on television...could also be one of the smartest." --The Peabody Awards
I've watched this interview four times now. Thank you so much Craig for introducing me to one of the great beauties of cinema. She's so dignified and effortlessly cool (even if she was nervous, poor darling). Have her on again post-haste! and any other foreign film stars, eccentric university professors, and Nobel laureates for that matter!
saintwrathchild 11 months ago 2
@nickstoli That's strange, actually. I don't think I've seen other chat shows, outside of american ones, do it like that. Normally the lower guest goes first... like a band has a supporting band first on and then it's the main act?
I'm sure most of you have seen Parkinson or Jonathan Ross. Fodder first, big name last.
Ah well.
In this case it was probably an advertising thing. Topher's movie was more important for the ad people.
Meh.

If I've learned something from Craig Ferguson, it's: "DO NOT JUDGE" So who cares, french or american or anybody else... we all love the guy and his show!
The interview is adorable. I think they're actually intimidated. Both of them.
*cute*

@Graoully I noticed that too. Perfectly worded comment you made. I'm a dude and I thought it was "cute" too.

Catherine Deneuve is the second guest?!

Let's just end the argument by saying that judging people based on stereotypes is generally not a good idea.
poirot89 11 months ago 4
Also, I noticed in the clip that Deneuve is wearing Ben Stiller's tracksuit from The Royal Tenenbaums...! She looks way better in it though.
BCWoobie 11 months ago
Two things happened: The show got all classy ! She's one of the most important guests ever, also... I think I'm in love with her :b, she's lovely and subtle, humble and feminine, if only she was 21.

Ferguson has the nicest smile...*sigh* The snake cup is not about his penis, it's about his charm. He is a lovely charmer.

this was one of craig's rare disappointing interviews. he asked dumb questions and came across as the uneducated fool he certainly isn't. deneuve is NOT AT ALL a diva.

12:46 Catherine Deneuve playing opposite Fabrice Luchini.
Potiche means Vase, talking about a decorative and stupid woman.

Craig himself hinted that the French are arrogant in the interview. Sorry guys it's not just an American thing the French are known to be this way the world over.

10:47 Wow, having your snake manipulated by la charmante Catherine Deneuve!

Why does Craig say that he "failed at" the film business when his films were so good? Not blockbusters, but good...

@andrewichigo You are pathetic. It was a great interview but you had to ruin it with a racist comment... Crétin!
Thank you Mal for your great work!

This comment has received too many negative votes show
I personally hate the enormous ego the french have......you can feel how she despises people just because they aren't french.
Don't judge me wrong, I studied my all life in a french school, with french people in it, students and teachers. I know what I talk about.
Ask anybody who's not french in Europe.
I don't really think I'll have any french guys' response cause they don't speak a word of english....sooooo yep.....
Great job keeping up the mood Craig!!

Only Americans have stupid stereotypes for french or as a matter of fact any nation. ppl in europe like french as any other nation. and maybe you have enormous ego coz you think averybody should speak english.
it was a great interview!
rorica 11 months ago 10
@rorica Are you serious? I can't tell if you're joking or not about the Americans part.
I don't speak for every American, but I can assure you that we don't all judge people by their background.

FuckingYusMate 11 months ago 44
@FuckingYusMate I don't know what this argument was about lol, but I love french people, especially Madame Deneuve!!:) And yes, people need to get over it, the french are fabulous, and chic, and delightful.
barbras7 7 months ago
@barbras7 Someone said that she was despising non-french people, because french despise everyone or something like that. And I thought that was stupid so I answered xD
I don't know if we're fabulous or anything xD but I know I don't despise non-french people or the ones who don't speak french. That would be dumb xDD
FuckingYusMate 7 months ago
@andrewichigo I'm Canadian and living in France for five years... of course facing a different culture is always a little hard... but if you close your mind to others like what you just said and of course people won't be nice to you french, americain, english, where ever they are from. I have one thing to say... tant pis pour toi... reste ignorant !
