Don't think I've ever cried at anything in TV or film before, but this did it. Gervais is an incredible actor, and this is truly one of the best series I've seen. Genius.
don't let this put you off the geordie accent, which is pleasant to the ear in its natural form. this voiceover artist has been coached to over-enunciate in a way nobody with an accent that broad ever would.
I knew there was a reason I wanted to be an actor as well as an author... these two are legends. Maybe one day I'll be half as good as them. THAT would be an achievement.
Possibly the most scathing critique of Big Brother and celeb culture there has ever been. Is the word "genius" overused coz I can't think of anything else to say.
What a scene - chokes me up every time I watch it...It shows that friendship and love can overcome all the ridiculousness of fame and 'celebrity'. Hats off to Gervais and Merchant.
Andy's monologue has got to be one of the best scenes in SitCom, it really wrapped up the entire show and just crash in with the realization of the past episodes. *nodding* Fantastic.
@Cosmographia83 What's more, it is an accurate criticism of our present culture. Where the only thing that matters is appearance and everything's up for sale.

@TheShakiebreaks I would agree if you could explain exactly what was fundamentally intolerable about these things, which are all just evolutions of basic human nature: it's just schadenfreude, it's in all of us and has been for centuries, if not millennia.
@RoguishBlonde I've wondered about that too. One of the explanations I've realised is that some parts which have a particular song/content may be blocked in certain countries due to copyright (for example I couldn't watch part 6 of this ). Maybe other parts are blocked for others elsewhere. The copyrights change constantly as to which countries can watch, VEVO in particular keep blocking/unblocking and I can't watch all the good shows from Channel 4 that are on here, dries me crazy.

@Tom4Cheese Well in all fairness, I think it was Karl Pilkington who brought up the flying monkey. Speaking of which, he has a cameo in this christmas special.

@PokerPlum I think its based on the ideas and standards of a paticulat country.
Networks have to be careful of what they put in b/c a lot of people take things very seriously and feel offended by certain things instead of just looking at it at face value.
Like for instance,a gay joke. If a kind of joke like that is openly spoken in the states the G.L.A.D.D. community would be up in arms. In Europe they just seem to accept it. Im not saying thats a good or bad thing. They just seem to take it.
The tragic thing is, celebrities would never listen to eachother as they did in the moment of Andy's speech, when everyone except him fell silent. People in this century of never-ending streams of consciousness through social networking and sites like this one just don't want to stop talking. this entire episode is really well done, a movie could've been done of this story, great messages and everything, great acting. Ricky Gervais is a fucking genius!
