It's just for the OC, the x58 classified has the same thing, it's purely for overclocking, if they needed ''that'' much power then we would no longer require the sun for warmth :)
Seeing as you know the 'real' value of the motherboard, mind sharing what it cost to make and engineer one of these boards from scratch? I'm sure it costs more than $0 which is what you're implying... But then again, what would I know.
well i5 is cheaper so that means countrys like mine can have an ok build for ok money if i want an i7 build with cheap parts its still going over 800$ its 400 for the cpu only :P so u can imagen..
It's $400 for an 920 over here too (Australia). I'm making a build with a 920, EVGA X58 Classified, 2xGTX 285, 6GB Crucial Ballistix Tracer, Intel SSD, 4TB storage, OCZ Z-Series 1000w PSU plus much more. I just got a job to fund this build :-). I hope to step up to a 970XE when I have everything else.
More like $4000+ :D. I don't have any other financial debt apart from rent and bills so all my earnings will be funding this :).
It's also going to have either a Dell 2408 or a 30" with a 24" secondary monitor in portrait mode.
I'm going to be doing plenty of video making using 720p content so this beast is needed for that. If I build a computer, might as well make it the best, right?
not $4000+ USD i promise. i can build a quad sli system withthe new classified mobo for far less than that. BTW to your other comment. this board does use core i7. helps to come to the fight armed.
dont listen to this fool just cause your from the same country.. The SSD is seriously BS. run a couple drives in raid 0 and get much more bang for the buck. dont buy the 1000w PSU.. OVERKILL!! get something like the corsair 850w with single +12v rail. save $300 and sli 2 gtx 275's or save even more and sli 2 GTX 260's. 2 260's in sli will run any game maxed out @1920x1200. also his x58 may be faster but will you even notice it and are there applications that use all that power.
Have you even read anything about the Intel X25-E? It's the best SSD on the market, it blows away any RAID0 setup, period. I want performance, not "bang for buck" as you said.
"corsair 850w with single +12v rail"
You obviously don't know anything about the OCZ Z-Series then. It has a single 83A +12V rail and runs at 90%+ efficiency (80 Plus Gold Certified). I need 1000W as I will have a sound card, 720p capture card 6+ HDD's, 2 optical drives, 7 fans, fan controller
So yeah, a 800W PSU might cut it but there won't be allot of head room when I'm rendering 720p videos using 8 threads on my CPU plus CUDA acceleration using Adobe Premier Pro CS4...
"2 260's in sli will run any game maxed out @1920x1200"
Of course they will run anything but they will struggle to run most games at 60+ FPS average which is what I want. Also, the added power + RAM from the 285's will help with video rendering.
I didnt say your PSU wasnt single rail.. just stating that single rail in alot cases can get ya by with less power cause ya dont have to balance the rails. and SSD is BS.. i stand by that.. there comes a point when the performance is not worth the price. lets say your drives are a certain speed but you cant practically use all that speed then it makes no sence. for a person looking for more than braggin rights

its been proven that ssd's are only slightly better than raptors, but cost WAY more. they also burn out faster than hdds. if you were a real power user you'd be waiting for the 300 and not wasting money on a 200 card and lastly i haven't heard of a single gfx card that can run maxed @ 1920x1200 averaging 60fps.
SSD's are much more reliable than the Velociraptors which had an extremely high failure rate. And who said SSD's are way more expensive? You can get the OCZ Vertext 60GB for around $300 AUS, which is just $100 over the price of the 150GB Raptor. I don't need 150GB of space, hell, I don't even need 60GB of space! And the performance increase from an SSD is far greater (0.1ms latency!) than a single Raptor.
I've looked into RAID0 Raptors and it's not worth the risk...
ok do the math with me ~300 for 60gb or ~200 for 150gb, if you cant tell that the ssd is way more somethings wrong. second its been show that the only hing it really improves is boot time and even that is only 5 seconds faster than a raptor/raptor raid. and if ur in that much of a hurry to get on ur rig just dont turn it off
Well as I just wrote (and you didn't read), I don't need 150GB or 300GB. The speed of one SSD beats Rators in RAID0, that is saying something right there.
I think you should go do your research a bit more as a single SSD is far greater than RAID0 Raptors. Now that the Vertext series has TRIM support, they will be even better than the old dying Raptors. I rather 2x7200RPM drives than one Raptor anyday.
@ViperFallenAngel Well I have only one or two games installed at a time as I'm not a massive gamer. I do enjoy WoW though but 60GB is more than enough for my needs.
@3Z3K13L08 lol u also need for that more memory to keep the mobies cookies picteres and games! mw2 is 16gb windows is 14! then u have only 30 left....
I have one of these to hold me over until the new NVIDIA stuff hits the market. They are very good and only get beaten out by the HD 5870/5850 and of course the GTX 295.
Very cool! I'm just glad that the new Core i5 series priced was REALLY WELL PRICED even for me that gets paid per month and i hope the Motherboards are a bit cheaper than the cheapest Core i5 cpu :)

2 x 8 pin cpu connectors .... that means i5 and i3 are very power hungry or the oc capabilyties are much bigger
