When and Where: June 11, 1997. Game 5, 1997 Finals vs. Jazz. Delta Center. 1: Score 38 points or more.2: Grab 7 rebounds or more.3: Win the game..NBA 2K11 Jordan Challenge
0:20, the original king, the best ever. Top that LeBron, top that Kobe, top that, ANYONE. Its the NBA Finals, game 5, on the road the man is 34 years old, struck by the flu bigtime, his other superstar not healthy, too, and he finished with 38 and the series-clinching 3. Top that, anyone
@woutakasinistra i know lebron at any age couldn't do that, even when 100 perecnt helathy eaisly could have the beat the mavs if he had scored just 20 points, but he choked, what seperates jordan from anyone else is is killer instinct, heart, skill, athlectisim, all in one=sucess,
Players today are soft. For example, Kobe. He wouldn't DARE play in an NBA Finals like this even with only a single injured finger. And of course, for him to play with a flu and then score 38 points and then hit a crushing 3-pointer at the end to seal it? Most Kobe fans are VERY disrespectful of MJ. That's one for their DUMB ASSES. I RESPECT Kobe and his basketball skills, but to compare him to MJ? Nah. FORGET IT.
@borj34205 llmao what, he did play in the playoffs with a dislocated finger, jacked up ankle, and injured back during 2010 playoffs. And his finger wasn't exactly at its best during 2008 or 09 playoffs. .lol you sound bitter because you've been around those Kobe Fans who call him better than MJ. Kobe will NEVER be jordan but he doesn't have to be. HE's KOBE. not M.J. just don't even mention him on here. you must respect him a lot to even mention him in the same breath.:P
@borj34205 now I wouldn't go that far. Kobe plays through alot of injuries as is just to try and keep his team in the game/season. He wasn't exactly healthy when they beat the Celtics in 2010. Granted, I agree that MJ is the King, but I do believe Kobe would at least try in that situation. He may not have the same success as MJ though.

@Kidchair I was never much of a Jordan fan and I'm a skeptic on the "greatest of all time" discussion (explain to me how the "greatest of all time" couldn't beat Magic and Larry in their primes and we'll talk), but I'll give him credit for this one. I saw that game live too, and he was in bad, bad shape. They did a replay cut to him in one possession where he literally was barely moving, and he basically just turned it on in the fourth quarter. Dude just wanted it way more than the Jazz did.
@StiltMonster Well, as far as "greatest," sure, maybe the greatest SCORER (ball hog) of all time, but I hate that discussion anyway. One player does not win championships. EVER. I was actually a huge Jordan fan growing up having lived in Illinois as they hit the first three-peat. But during their second run, I happened to be living in Utah. My two favorite teams at it in the Finals, I wanted the Jazz to win those. I'm sure he wasn't feeling good, but he sold the drama as he always did.
@mbeuthe1 No sale. The Celtics finished 6 games over .500 the year before Bill Russell showed up and 14 games under the year after he retired, and won 11 championships in 13 years while he was there. The Lakers went to zero finals between Wilt leaving and Magic arriving, then went to 9 in the 12 years Magic was there and HIV-negative. Jordan winning 6 in 8 years was impressive, but 7 years to get to the finals at all hurts him in that discussion for me. Russell is #1 ever until someone wins 12.
@StiltMonster LMAO!! Bill Russell #1 all-time? Are you serious? First of all, it was pioneer days and there very few teams. MJ's Bulls would have won 15 straight! Do you really think Russell and Wilt would have done what they did if they played in a league with Hakeem Olajuwon, David Robinson, Shaquille O'Neal, Patrick Ewing, Alonzo Mourning, Dikembe Mutumbo, Moses Malone, and Wes Unseld??? NOPE. NBA got out of pioneer mode in the mid 70s.
@ilovechi1 Get a time machine. Put Jordan in for any 2-guard in the 60s. The Celtics are still going to win 11. Then put Russell next to, say, Bird and McHale on the 80s-90s Celtics instead of the 60s Celtics. They would've crushed everybody. Russell was dominant because he wasn't just as athletic as basically anyone, ever, but he was the smartest player who's ever set foot on hardwood. Watch his sit down with KG in '08. KG looks like a grasshopper talking to the master and he obviously knows it
Please. The Celtics won 5 more games in 1957, and Russell wasn't even rated the best rookie on his own team (Heinsohn). Cousy was league MVP, Sharman was an all-star guard - there's no question that Russell walked into a much more favorable situation than Jordan.
@TheBrainMachine78 “How much does that guy make a year? It would be to our advantage if we paid him off for five years to get away from us in the rest of this series.” - Dolph Schayes after playing one playoff game against Russell as a rookie.
“[Russell's] will to win made the difference.” - Cousy himself.
“We don’t fear the Celtics without Bill Russell. Take him out and we can beat them." - John Kundla, after his Lakers were swept by the Celtics in the '59 finals.
@TheBrainMachine78 I will agree that Jordan is very probably the greatest overall talent the league's ever seen, but as Wilt will forever shine as an example of, talent alone doesn't make a great basketball player. It's a team game, and Jordan simply is not even in the conversation of greatest team player ever. He eventually put it together better than Wilt ever did, but he needed to learn how to overcome his own ego first, and in my book, that takes him down a slot or two on "greatest ever".
@StiltMonster youre taking away from him because he didnt pass as much as you'd like him to?? he won 6 rings the last 6 seasons he played the game! i think he mastered the role of "team game" before he walked away. smh
''a COURAGEOUS, CLASSIC PERFORMANCE...by the flu ridden, Michael Jordan! A performance that I think will go down in history as one of his greatest's ever, because of the situation (flu)''
It doesn't matter how old he was, measure by how long he was in the league...Jordan won it his sixth year in the league...and if we're gonna get technical basically his fifth because of his ankle injury
@vcownzraptors you really think skip bayless is the only one who thinks LeBron is not better than Jordan? cause I'm pretty sure 62 ppl agree with me...
@mack503 You mean like 2x MVP, 2x All Star MVP, 5x All NBA First Team, Rookie of the Year, and 1x Scoring Champion? Sure he doesn't have rings, but rings are a team effort and it was all Lebron with 60 win Cavs teams and 6 rings with Jordan and HOFs Pippen, Jackson, Rodman and all-stars Grant, Kukoc, and Armstrong. Don't get me wrong, Jordan is still better than Lebron but he doesn't deserve to get shat on by Jordan fanboys.
@thenintendogamer Grant, Kukoc, and Armstrong were never All-Stars. They were role players. They had 2 All-Stars- Jordan and Pippen. And Rodman was just defense and rebounding but he was a great player nonetheless.
First off Jordans numbers & awards Pre-Championship are way better than Lebron let alone during the bulls dynasty. Rodman was never an all-star while a bull Kukoc was never an all-star in general and was a streaky shooter and terrible defender and Grant & B.J. were all-stars 1 season and that season was 1994 when Jordan was retired. I love Lebron he's one of my favorite players in the league and I wish him well. But keep things in perspective its not like Jordan was playing with the 80s lakers
@thenintendogamer if you dont have atleast three rings you wont be in the greatest of all time unless you your like wilt where you hold record after record......rings are everything in the nba.......kobe=5 Lebron=0 Magic =5 Bird=3
@hitop109 Rings mean jack as an individual stat. At least a third to a quarter of all the players in the hall of Fame haven't won a ring let alone 3. Rings are a team effort, and Jordan would not have won them alone, he needed his fellow hall of fame teammates/coaches. You can't compare a hall of famer like Charles Barkley who has no rings to a shmuck like Luke Walton who won 2 rings.
@thenintendogamer I get your point but rings are everything i get your argument but lebron wants to be one of the best and he wont be without a ring and i meant Greatest no hall of famers......1:Jordan=6 rings 2:Russell=11 rings 3: wilt the stilt=2 rings 4:Kareem Abdul=6 rings 5:Bird=3 rings 6:Magic=5 rings...........my all time greatest and those are one of the greatest players and most influential nba players the league has ever had....and they all have atleast 3 rings!
@hitop109 No they aren't, Lebron would still be one of the best even if he didn't win a ring. Karl Malone, John Stockton, Charles Barkley, Elgin Baylor all of them are some of the greatest to play the game but never won the championship. Hakeem is generally known as the greatest center of all time, said so by MJ himself, and he won 2 rings. Rings take a talented team, not just a talented individual. If MJ did not have the team he had and won 1 or no rings, he still would have been the GOAT
@thenintendogamer Ahhhhhh...but when people call Lebron one of the greatest ever theres gonna be someone that says"but how many rings does he have?" Hakeem dont get me wrong he was a great player but when I say greatest you NEED a RINGS!!! look at all the players thats being considered the Greatest Players to have played! Michael, Bird, Magic, Wilt, Russell!
@hitop109 Alright LeBron still in his prime and he is with the Heat so he has no excuse to not win a ring with the Big 3 I'll give you him but the other players I listed (Stockton, Malone, Barkley, Baylor) still belong with the greatest as well, ring or not.
He faked it because he didn't feel he was popular enough? Or instead of 99% of people in the world knowing who he was and thinking he was the best player he needed 99.9%?
Sick or not, it was a great game. Given that he was sick, it's amazing.
i remember the next finals ron harper had the flu and thought he was gonna have the same impact that jordan did, obviously that wasnt the case but he gets an e for effort
people also dont remember one of the worst moments in playoff history, the Jazz failed epically by not fouling and letting the Bulls get a dunk, this happened right before you see Jordan get walked off by Pip, embarrassing shit
"stuck a dagger in em with a three"........ Neil Funk.."ka ka kaboom", "oh my"...MJ is the greatest to ever paly the game, can nobody be compared to Mike.. Those 6 championships were awesome..i can tell my kids i seen them all, and seen the greatest ever to play the game......go bulls
Kobe has no class what so ever. Notice how when ever he has more assists, the team wins. Jordan could score 45 every game and he could have 11 assists and blow out a team. Jordan knew how to integrate both aspects of the game...Screw Kobe!!!
But why the hell did they double team Pippen on the last play? He hadn't been going at them very well in the post? But hey, MJ is still the greatest, how many game-winners does he have...
that a player who has never played against other professionals could be the GOAT. by that thinking the greatest player in the world could be some guy in a remote part of the world. that's what's ridiculous.
obviously I have if i'm the one who brought up his cocaine addiction. his nickname is Goat, from mispronunciation people called him Ninnygoat, then just Goat. the acronym GOAT however (which is the one ur using when u use all caps) means Greatest Of All Time, which he is not. learn some grammar before you comment.
hahahahaha u better watch that movie again. his name was not the acronym. it was a mispronunciation of Manigault (Ninny-goat). good effort tho. oh and when ur talking about G.O.A.T. of is capitalized.
It didn't start out as Greatest "of" All Time, it did start out as Manny-goat, not Ninny-goat, it was a mispronounciation of his last name, but with his supreme skill he became to take on the name G.O.A.T., or "Greatest of All Time". "Of" is a preposition, you do not capitalize prepositions in titles unless it is the first or last word. That's some 4th grade english, buddy. Maybe you should review.
wrong again! u finally understand the mispronunciation thing tho so ur headed the right way. he didn't play long enough to be the greatest of anything. he just played on parks and a small school and nobody calls him the goat being in the same era as kareem. when u write the acronym out the O is capitalized, as you are doing by writing G.O.A.T. not G.o.A.T. so just stop the nonsense. i didn't make up the acronym so i dunno y ur getting mad at me for explaining it to you by capitalizing letters.
"I" never gave him the nickname, buddy, that's just the way it is. I already know of his past, so you're not telling me anything new by repeating it. And I never said that "O." should not be capitalized when used in the acronym, but when you write it out as the words they stand for, "of" is not capitalized, as in "Greatest of All Time." By no means am I mad at you, if anything, especially with your use of grammatical interjections, you're mad at me.
come on i'm not mad about grammar lol. i do however think it's ridiculous that someone would mention Earl Manigault on a video of MJ and claim that Manigault was the greatest. there are players I like and don't like and maybe I would get upset if u said someone I didn't like but u just said someone who doesn't even warrant anger from me but rather a brush off as someone who doesn't know anything about basketball. u know, similar to someone who says elvis lives in their closet.
The only reason I did mention Earl was because someone said Michael was the Goat. By no means do I think he was better than Michael, I was just explaining that the nickname "Goat or G.O.A.T." has already been given to Earl Manigualt. Also, are you referring to me as someone who doesn't know anything about basketball?
well if you were saying Earl Manigault is greater than MJ then yes I was, but u are not saying that so I guess I am not. BTW u can quickly look on Wikipedia and see that his name is "Goat" not G.O.A.T. it even acknowledges that it is an acronym for the Greatest of All TIme but makes it pretty clear that Manigault was named Goat cuz of the mispronunciation NOT cuz he was the greatest at anything.
I can almost hear LeBron and Wade coughing now...

@zwdrangers Everyone sells themselves a little. MJ was a drama king, and he was one of the first to admit it.

If Jordan was so sick...why did they let him play? I watched this game live...total BS. Flu my ass.
Kidchair 1 year ago
@Kidchair I was never much of a Jordan fan and I'm a skeptic on the "greatest of all time" discussion (explain to me how the "greatest of all time" couldn't beat Magic and Larry in their primes and we'll talk), but I'll give him credit for this one. I saw that game live too, and he was in bad, bad shape. They did a replay cut to him in one possession where he literally was barely moving, and he basically just turned it on in the fourth quarter. Dude just wanted it way more than the Jazz did.
StiltMonster 1 year ago
@StiltMonster Well, as far as "greatest," sure, maybe the greatest SCORER (ball hog) of all time, but I hate that discussion anyway. One player does not win championships. EVER. I was actually a huge Jordan fan growing up having lived in Illinois as they hit the first three-peat. But during their second run, I happened to be living in Utah. My two favorite teams at it in the Finals, I wanted the Jazz to win those. I'm sure he wasn't feeling good, but he sold the drama as he always did.
Kidchair 1 year ago
@StiltMonster Maybe bc he didnt get pippen until 1988 and the celtic had McHale and DJ and the Lakers had Kareem, Worthy, Scott and Cooper
mbeuthe1 1 year ago
@mbeuthe1 No sale. The Celtics finished 6 games over .500 the year before Bill Russell showed up and 14 games under the year after he retired, and won 11 championships in 13 years while he was there. The Lakers went to zero finals between Wilt leaving and Magic arriving, then went to 9 in the 12 years Magic was there and HIV-negative. Jordan winning 6 in 8 years was impressive, but 7 years to get to the finals at all hurts him in that discussion for me. Russell is #1 ever until someone wins 12.
StiltMonster 1 year ago
@StiltMonster LMAO!! Bill Russell #1 all-time? Are you serious? First of all, it was pioneer days and there very few teams. MJ's Bulls would have won 15 straight! Do you really think Russell and Wilt would have done what they did if they played in a league with Hakeem Olajuwon, David Robinson, Shaquille O'Neal, Patrick Ewing, Alonzo Mourning, Dikembe Mutumbo, Moses Malone, and Wes Unseld??? NOPE. NBA got out of pioneer mode in the mid 70s.
ilovechi1 1 year ago
@ilovechi1 Get a time machine. Put Jordan in for any 2-guard in the 60s. The Celtics are still going to win 11. Then put Russell next to, say, Bird and McHale on the 80s-90s Celtics instead of the 60s Celtics. They would've crushed everybody. Russell was dominant because he wasn't just as athletic as basically anyone, ever, but he was the smartest player who's ever set foot on hardwood. Watch his sit down with KG in '08. KG looks like a grasshopper talking to the master and he obviously knows it
StiltMonster 1 year ago
Please. The Celtics won 5 more games in 1957, and Russell wasn't even rated the best rookie on his own team (Heinsohn). Cousy was league MVP, Sharman was an all-star guard - there's no question that Russell walked into a much more favorable situation than Jordan.
TheBrainMachine78 1 year ago
@TheBrainMachine78 “How much does that guy make a year? It would be to our advantage if we paid him off for five years to get away from us in the rest of this series.” - Dolph Schayes after playing one playoff game against Russell as a rookie.
“[Russell's] will to win made the difference.” - Cousy himself.
“We don’t fear the Celtics without Bill Russell. Take him out and we can beat them." - John Kundla, after his Lakers were swept by the Celtics in the '59 finals.
You really argue with that?
StiltMonster 1 year ago
@TheBrainMachine78 I will agree that Jordan is very probably the greatest overall talent the league's ever seen, but as Wilt will forever shine as an example of, talent alone doesn't make a great basketball player. It's a team game, and Jordan simply is not even in the conversation of greatest team player ever. He eventually put it together better than Wilt ever did, but he needed to learn how to overcome his own ego first, and in my book, that takes him down a slot or two on "greatest ever".
StiltMonster 1 year ago
@StiltMonster youre taking away from him because he didnt pass as much as you'd like him to?? he won 6 rings the last 6 seasons he played the game! i think he mastered the role of "team game" before he walked away. smh

mack503 9 months ago
@mack503 You mean like 2x MVP, 2x All Star MVP, 5x All NBA First Team, Rookie of the Year, and 1x Scoring Champion? Sure he doesn't have rings, but rings are a team effort and it was all Lebron with 60 win Cavs teams and 6 rings with Jordan and HOFs Pippen, Jackson, Rodman and all-stars Grant, Kukoc, and Armstrong. Don't get me wrong, Jordan is still better than Lebron but he doesn't deserve to get shat on by Jordan fanboys.
thenintendogamer 8 months ago
@thenintendogamer thanks for googling all that information then building your argument right before you posted that...good research
mack503 8 months ago
@thenintendogamer Grant, Kukoc, and Armstrong were never All-Stars. They were role players. They had 2 All-Stars- Jordan and Pippen. And Rodman was just defense and rebounding but he was a great player nonetheless.
LeonHuskovich96 8 months ago
First off Jordans numbers & awards Pre-Championship are way better than Lebron let alone during the bulls dynasty. Rodman was never an all-star while a bull Kukoc was never an all-star in general and was a streaky shooter and terrible defender and Grant & B.J. were all-stars 1 season and that season was 1994 when Jordan was retired. I love Lebron he's one of my favorite players in the league and I wish him well. But keep things in perspective its not like Jordan was playing with the 80s lakers
JCR1992 7 months ago
@thenintendogamer if you dont have atleast three rings you wont be in the greatest of all time unless you your like wilt where you hold record after record......rings are everything in the nba.......kobe=5 Lebron=0 Magic =5 Bird=3
hitop109 4 months ago
@hitop109 Rings mean jack as an individual stat. At least a third to a quarter of all the players in the hall of Fame haven't won a ring let alone 3. Rings are a team effort, and Jordan would not have won them alone, he needed his fellow hall of fame teammates/coaches. You can't compare a hall of famer like Charles Barkley who has no rings to a shmuck like Luke Walton who won 2 rings.
thenintendogamer 4 months ago
@thenintendogamer I get your point but rings are everything i get your argument but lebron wants to be one of the best and he wont be without a ring and i meant Greatest no hall of famers......1:Jordan=6 rings 2:Russell=11 rings 3: wilt the stilt=2 rings 4:Kareem Abdul=6 rings 5:Bird=3 rings 6:Magic=5 rings...........my all time greatest and those are one of the greatest players and most influential nba players the league has ever had....and they all have atleast 3 rings!
hitop109 4 months ago
@hitop109 No they aren't, Lebron would still be one of the best even if he didn't win a ring. Karl Malone, John Stockton, Charles Barkley, Elgin Baylor all of them are some of the greatest to play the game but never won the championship. Hakeem is generally known as the greatest center of all time, said so by MJ himself, and he won 2 rings. Rings take a talented team, not just a talented individual. If MJ did not have the team he had and won 1 or no rings, he still would have been the GOAT
thenintendogamer 4 months ago
@thenintendogamer Ahhhhhh...but when people call Lebron one of the greatest ever theres gonna be someone that says"but how many rings does he have?" Hakeem dont get me wrong he was a great player but when I say greatest you NEED a RINGS!!! look at all the players thats being considered the Greatest Players to have played! Michael, Bird, Magic, Wilt, Russell!
hitop109 4 months ago
@hitop109 Alright LeBron still in his prime and he is with the Heat so he has no excuse to not win a ring with the Big 3 I'll give you him but the other players I listed (Stockton, Malone, Barkley, Baylor) still belong with the greatest as well, ring or not.
thenintendogamer 4 months ago
@thenintendogamer Agreed. The Heat are HUGELY favored now with their lineup. The Utah Jazz were KNOWN to be the underdogs next to Jordan's Bulls.

Earl Manigault is the G.O.A.T., there's a really good movie called "Rebound," it's his life story, every basketball fan should watch it.

the best at shootin up cocaine! come on now dawg don't say ridiculous things.
ylt34c 2 years ago
What part of my statement was ridiculous?
tommytooclean 2 years ago
that a player who has never played against other professionals could be the GOAT. by that thinking the greatest player in the world could be some guy in a remote part of the world. that's what's ridiculous.
ylt34c 2 years ago
I didn't give him the nick name. He's from the New York area. Learn some history before you write your comments.
tommytooclean 2 years ago
obviously I have if i'm the one who brought up his cocaine addiction. his nickname is Goat, from mispronunciation people called him Ninnygoat, then just Goat. the acronym GOAT however (which is the one ur using when u use all caps) means Greatest Of All Time, which he is not. learn some grammar before you comment.
ylt34c 2 years ago
His nickname was the acronym G.O.A.T., don't talk to me about grammar when you capitalize "of" in you title.
tommytooclean 2 years ago
hahahahaha u better watch that movie again. his name was not the acronym. it was a mispronunciation of Manigault (Ninny-goat). good effort tho. oh and when ur talking about G.O.A.T. of is capitalized.
ylt34c 2 years ago
It didn't start out as Greatest "of" All Time, it did start out as Manny-goat, not Ninny-goat, it was a mispronounciation of his last name, but with his supreme skill he became to take on the name G.O.A.T., or "Greatest of All Time". "Of" is a preposition, you do not capitalize prepositions in titles unless it is the first or last word. That's some 4th grade english, buddy. Maybe you should review.
tommytooclean 2 years ago
wrong again! u finally understand the mispronunciation thing tho so ur headed the right way. he didn't play long enough to be the greatest of anything. he just played on parks and a small school and nobody calls him the goat being in the same era as kareem. when u write the acronym out the O is capitalized, as you are doing by writing G.O.A.T. not G.o.A.T. so just stop the nonsense. i didn't make up the acronym so i dunno y ur getting mad at me for explaining it to you by capitalizing letters.
ylt34c 2 years ago
"I" never gave him the nickname, buddy, that's just the way it is. I already know of his past, so you're not telling me anything new by repeating it. And I never said that "O." should not be capitalized when used in the acronym, but when you write it out as the words they stand for, "of" is not capitalized, as in "Greatest of All Time." By no means am I mad at you, if anything, especially with your use of grammatical interjections, you're mad at me.
tommytooclean 2 years ago
come on i'm not mad about grammar lol. i do however think it's ridiculous that someone would mention Earl Manigault on a video of MJ and claim that Manigault was the greatest. there are players I like and don't like and maybe I would get upset if u said someone I didn't like but u just said someone who doesn't even warrant anger from me but rather a brush off as someone who doesn't know anything about basketball. u know, similar to someone who says elvis lives in their closet.
ylt34c 2 years ago
The only reason I did mention Earl was because someone said Michael was the Goat. By no means do I think he was better than Michael, I was just explaining that the nickname "Goat or G.O.A.T." has already been given to Earl Manigualt. Also, are you referring to me as someone who doesn't know anything about basketball?
tommytooclean 2 years ago
well if you were saying Earl Manigault is greater than MJ then yes I was, but u are not saying that so I guess I am not. BTW u can quickly look on Wikipedia and see that his name is "Goat" not G.O.A.T. it even acknowledges that it is an acronym for the Greatest of All TIme but makes it pretty clear that Manigault was named Goat cuz of the mispronunciation NOT cuz he was the greatest at anything.
ylt34c 2 years ago
