  • Bernie Taupin is the Lyricist, Elton John is the Musician/singer. FYI.

  • The openers to this album are kickass.

  • Mumford and Sons or poets of the fall, together, couldn't come close to the genius, musical writings of Elton John. No offense but music of today really has no substance. I blame record companies for that. Accepting anyone who practiced in their garage for a month then signing them to a major label ......it's sickening.

  • still great!!!!

  • my all time favorite Elton John song....simply great...thanks for posting

  • thank you Bernie!

  • My favorite Elton song

  • Im 17 and I ONLY LISTEN to oldies. 60,70,80s thats all I can listen to. Not any of the crap music out today that has pointless lyrics. The lyrics in old music make sense and tell a story, not like today. Nobody understands this in my generation

  • @james201214 Don't write this decade off completely. The majority of the music is terrible. But what of the bands (Mumford and Sons, Poets of the Fall, and others like them) who do their damndest to make music that is real and doesn't require auto-tune to be a hit. Just keep an open mind (and ears) you never know what might surprise you. :)

  • i've always assumed this song was a drug use reference. the lyrics are all cold & snarky until the chorus (heroine) kicks in. then the lyrics are just wonderful. those are some of the most charming love song lyrics i've ever heard

  • If You did not live the 70s and 80s You haven't lived musically speaking. All the younger kids of today will say the same words too there kids one day. Like the old saying I wish I new back then what I know today. Our music was the start of a whole new world, but we can't forget who gave us the music. Elvis, Buddy Holley, Beatles etc. So listen up put the guns away stop the violence pick up a guitar, or sticks and put it on paper. So much better to learn the music and enjoy it We did believe Me

  • ONE of my Fav's by Sir Elton John!! :)

  • OK WHERE ARE THE LYICS????

  • The final pop song off this ultimate pop album.

  • How does this song not have MILLIONS of hits??????

  • Elton, when he was great, and brilliant and wonderfully damaged. Now, what a painful bore/

  • this song and this album are as good as music gets

  • harmony and me will always be a favorite

  • @ZinManful same here

  • My Sisters name is Harmony :> I think of her every time I hear this song

  • Oh my gosh, I loved this album! I played it over and over and over again. Memorized every word to every song, every beat, every note -- just soaked it all in, right down to my bones :) That record was one of my all-time favorite possessions.

  • @bamamamacat Mine too...

  • The way the music lifts through the chorus, I can barely breathe, still has the same effect as when I first heard it when it was brand new.

  • 4 people are clearly dumb..and deaf. End of story.

  • ELTON THE BEEEEESSST

  • Such a beautiful song <3 (and I'm 23, not all of the young people have forgotten great music from before our time)

  • this is the hottest song ever

  • @MrHooLee YEP, SUUUUURE IS!!

    :)

  • I was 13 yrs old and obsessed with Elton John. When I got into trouble my mom would take all my albums and 8 tracks of Elton John away. My how the years have flown :sigh:

  • I still remember buying this album at 'Music World'... still have it : )

  • Justin Bieber...PLEASE!!! THIS (along with Bernie Taupin's lyrics) IS TALENT!!! I feel SOOO SORRY for the youth of today; they're REALLY being shafted!!!

  • never leaving harmony!!

  • Mom it's been 15 yrs. without you and I still can't take it! Any Elton John song remind me of you and kills me!!!! I hope your okay in heaven with dad!!!!! My heart craves to see you and dad and I hate the holidays. Love you!!!! Alicia

  • @1968lucille

I feel your pain on this. My Mom passed almost on Christmas Day last year. God bless you. It's tough stuff (especially holidays), but they wouldn't want us to linger on in pain. It's just that we miss them so.

  • Everyone stop saying I am gay and I love this song because he is gay too, or I hate this song because he is gay. It is a good fucking song, You know what I think about the sexual orientation thing on all elton john videos

FO GETTA BOUT IT HOWLIE! IT TIS A GOOD SONG NO MATTER WHAT!

  • Wore this song out on the jukebox at "Black Owl's" pub in New York...

  • This song is so amazing.

  • I wanna love you forever...

  • Take the art above the social nwos.

  • great b side. the best!

  • One of my favorite Elton songs.

  • The original lyrics were "sodomy and me are pretty good company" but the record label made Elton change them.

  • HELLO ACID HELLO....

  • TOO BAD HE IS A HOMO...

  • @nwosukz that doesn't affect the music moron.

  • @nwosukz ...too bad YOU'RE an asshole.

  • @lundehund44 @nwosukz Now now are we having a little tiff here? kiss and make up...

  • Arguably the best album of the 70's, with Ziggy Stardust and Boston.

  • Harmony and me, we're pretty good company......thanks E.

  • Elton John is alive

  • In league with Mozart.

  • @september29ification smhhhhhhhh

  • @september29ification in terms of popularity, maybe, but most def not musically...sorry. i mean there isn't one thing on this record that wasn't done better by Mozart, besides rock-related sounds, but only cuz rock didn't exist back then

  • John found fresh ground!

  • Can someone please remind who the drummer is? Thanks:)

  • @OrisLover nigel olsen not relation to the twins

  • Lincoln centre roller rink. 1975.

  • Stand by for heavy rolls. You pleabes are getting it. The song is about musical form.Should ad that Taupin loved Melody first.

  • This song always makes me a bit melancholy, as though time has passed much too quickly. Elton and Bernie's most enduring masterpiece.

  • dildo

  • @anum717

  • This album came out when I was 15 and I spent many many hours sitting on the floor of my brother's bedroom with his headphones on playing it over and over again, until I had the whole thing memorized. If I remember correctly, it was a two album set. I was lucky, my big brother was totally into music, had a great stereo, and would let me listen to his albums whenever I wanted. What a good big brother he was. RIP John.

  • Love the album, my first at 8 years old. Still one of my favorites. But I have to say, he's not especially kind to women through much of it. Ripping lesbians, prostitutes, skanks, easy lays, high society fakes, etc. He is kind to Marilyn Monroe, however.

  • I remember when this album came out...I wore this album out...I used to play this song over and over while plotting how to seduce my high school boyfriend...

  • pure magic

  • This is what I have picked for my funeral song! Seems like a goodbye song to me, but kind of happy to me.

  • Missing all my "surviving friends" from the long lost 70's right now...

  • Edward. Yes, I remember all the words. I feel quite sorry for the youth of today who, probably, will never know this wonderful album.

Reminds me too, of my first boyfriend. He introduced me to this wonderful music.

  • @ThePasirpanjang I'm seventeen and a major Elton addict; we're not all lost causes--only most of us. ;)

  • smh

  • @jdobo I'm only 13 (:

  • @jdobo I'm 16 and I own every album! Elton John is my favorite artist!

  • @ThePasirpanjang I'm 20. My father bought this album for me as a birthday present in my early teens because I liked Elton. First song of his I ever heard was Island Girl. I would've been about 11 or 12 at the time. That would've been 2002 or 2003, some 28 years after this album was released. I'm sure there are others like me around... And we will be the ones that pass it on to the next generation.

  • @ThePasirpanjang 19 years old here, Elton fan since 2007 :P :D

  • back when an album had quality throughout...Goodbye to that...

  • I must have played this song 100000 times on the LP I had of this growing up. Listening to it again now, it brings tears to my eyes it's so passionate.

  • Love this song....Whenever I hear this, it reminds me of my high school boyfriend .......such good, simple times...... Nice to have songs like this, bring you back to these memories............wish I could go back...

  • Hello, baby....Hello.

  • Timeless song. It's so moving and the background vocals are beautiful. From One of the greatest albums ever made........... and when I say ever, I fuckin' mean it!

  • Have always loved elton john and bernie taupin and the band...This has always been a sexy song; elton's accent really sets it off.... love you elton 4-ever!

  • oh, i forgot..try listening to some roxy music..

  • hang in thier manjv5665..you're in my prayers...

  • I remember in the 1980s when I was attending college, I called a radio station and asked them to play Harmony. The DJ said it was an odd thing, that even though the song had been out for 10 years, people were always calling for it, and it wasn't even a single!

  • This has to be one of my 'Desert Island' discs! Brilliant album, great artwork and all the lyrics too, what more could you want!!

  • Looks like all of us are here to reminise about that year, 1974. My best friend had a huge "crush" on Elton and we used to harmonize together on this song. Sadly, she's gone now, but I will always remember her fondly.

  • maybe onday I will get tired of listening to elton john all day every day and will explore other music, but for now...

  • @jason13204 I went one day without listening to Elton John. I'm a straight male and I couldn't do it!

  • @pizza123able My friend, you should also check out the beatles and John Lennon's album Double Fantasy. There is a new album called Double Fantasy stripped down. I have to say I usually like to leave well enough alone, but this is a great album. It is on youtube. Peace.

  • @pizza123able me neither....for me it's the only thing in this messed up world that makes any sense !

  • @pizza123able

LOL! Don't feel bad. I'm a gay male and I don't last long without listening to the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Pearl Jam, Zeppelin, Radiohead and others. Music has no boundaries and no labels. Too bad other things in life aren't the same.

  • @jason13204 I've been trying to do this for the past 40 years!

  • So much of this album seemed to be about devastatingly messed up women.

  • one of my all-time favorites. always makes me cry. ty for posting

  • I cannot believe that only 95,407 people have bothered to watch/listen to this song. Millions salivate for contemporary acts like Lady Gaga and so few really appreciate a master like Elston John in the seventies.

  • @miabarry I agree with you 100% maybe it's because so many people these days just "hear" music rather than actually "listen" to it, so they just don't have a clue, sad but true.

  • Went to Chelsea High School '73. Remember this song and album well, Joints at lunchbreak, Amelias restaurant in the A.M. "scrambled two"please! Mr. White the science teacher bombed during class, New York was fun back then!

  • @Cromag99 Well that explains it

  • LOVE is RIGHT! This song is LOVE. I played this over and over and made my heart move. Oh, the young Elton was my first love. xo

  • My all time favorite song ...

  • If you are a devotee of 'seventies music, then check out the book, 'An Essential Guide To Music In The 1970s' by Johnny Zero.

  • literally wore this album out- still brilliant and timeless

  • It was great being a teen back in these days. The crazy stuff I did with all this great music as the soundtrack to it all.

  • I was 11 years old....I would steal this album from my older brother when he wasn't home and listen to it....he would be so mad if he knew I did that :)

  • I do remember.. was 13.. lol

  • Though this song never gets any airplay.....it's actually one of his very best songs. If there are songs in heaven, surely this one would be on the top of the list.

  • flip side to Bennie and the jets and it got as much air play on WLS thats how popular Elton was in the day

  • HOT DOG<<<<<<< HEY, HOWS BUSINESS DONALD?

  • summer of 08' blunts in the park, some twisted teas, and elton john. He still has the same effect on the newer generation, if they care to listen .

  • I love this..thank you Elton! Peace~> <3 Harmony

  • Brilliant Artist, Brilliant song. Sends chills up my spine. I'm sorry but they don't make songs like this anymore!

  • @MsCarlyflower Don't be sorry! It's true!

  • @MsCarlyflower its so true! Cookie cutter songs are all that they play anymore :(

  • makes me cry every time I hear it Ronny I miss you so much....

  • Elton John night at American Idol and not one of these idiots even considered this song. If this song was done well with a simple backup singer or 2, it would be a home run for sure. EJ's best ever

  • The summer of 1974, when I was young, immortal and had the whole world in my hands...

  • Boone's Farm strawberry wine and some doobies in the park @ '73

  • Perhaps one of the greatest albums ever....

  • Best E J song ever..........

  • Thumbs up if you know the words to every song on the Yellow Brick Road album!

  • @edwardm60 I was just thinking that :)

  • this is one of the few songs that has the power to bring me to tears

  • this album has got to have made EJ and bernie Taupin a pile of money - in the 70's, everybody i knew had it. i have bought it at least 5 times over the years, myself!

it never seems to ever get acknowledged on critic's lists, but this is one of the top ten rock and roll albums ever made - about as close to perfect as it ever gets.

  • bernie out did himself this is trully beyond poetry put to harmony!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • SUMMER OF 74 WAS GREAT FOR MUSIC

  • Had cardiac mri... I could choose a cd... chose EJ's Greatest. So sweet. I was crying listening to some of the songs, but couldn't wipe away the tears.

  • @juliadennehy Hope it turned out OK - best of luck

  • @juliadennehy You`re in my thoughts and prayers - bless you

  • i loveeee this song!

  • Oh yeah! The memories of the GREAT music then. Nothing beats music that came from around 1967- 1976...

  • best voice in rock, pop, or jazz, imho

  • I had this song stuck in my head all weekend, so I had to play it, and it just sounds amazing to me today! I can't believe that it was 37 years ago that I first heard this album, and it amazes me that I like it just as much or more today.

  • 1973 every single song on this two LP set is a true work of art. You really got yours monies worth. I first bought this on 8 track when I was traveling across the U.S.

  • @ENCOMAN Absolutely one of the great pop-rock albums. GBYBR was virtually the soundtrack to my first year in high school and part of the second:) --

  • Always one of my favorites :)

  • Could this be a warm-up song that evolved into a real song? Beautiful harmonies as usual! These guys just sounded perfect togeather. The voices blended perfectly. Perfect title!

  • My name Is Harmony!!!!!

  • magnificent..

  • this was the b side to bennie and the jets single - I think

  • Am I correct that while this song was not officially released as a single in '73, it did receive significant airplay? I think I remember reading that it probably would have been another #1 hit for Elton if it had been released as a single. Back in those days, I think even non-single songs from Elton received airplay just because he was such a huge star.

  • @TravelinBand747 Yes you are correct

  • THIS IS REALLY AN UNFORGETABLE SONG!

  • One of my favorite Elton John songs. Musically, this song deserves more.

  • Too many memories. 1974. Summer. Do you remember?

  • @phoenixtimes2 I wish I was alive in those times! The music today has no soul!!

  • @PopCultureSucks No soul, no feel, no staying power. I probably shouldn't pain with such a broad brush-there must be esceptions, but I haven't found them. This song reminds me of August 1974. In a place so far away in time, but so very "now" in my mind. Sometimes I run back there and I can smell it, taste it, feel it...It was real and innocent and desparate and comforting all at once.

  • @phoenixtimes2 yep, quite vivedly.

  • @phoenixtimes2 I sure do:) --

  • @phoenixtimes2 boy do I remember, what a great tragic time we had!

  • @phoenixtimes2 I remember...and man do these songs take me back!!!!

  • @phoenixtimes2 I sure do -- was the summer between my freshman and sophomore years in high school:)--

  • @phoenixtimes2 oh yes and it was magic!!

  • @phoenixtimes2 oh yes and it was magical......

  • @phoenixtimes2 I was a freshman in high school. His music helped me to transisition to high school. Good memories.

  • @phoenixtimes2 Oh you better believe I remember that summer. Had just gotten my drivers license in March! So yes, one of the best summers I can remember :)

  • angieguillemette@youtube.com

  • @phoenixtimes2 I wasn't born then, but I memorized this album in 2000, when I was 10.

  • @lorado666 Yeah, it's a classic.

  • @phoenixtimes2 I remember it,i loved this album listening to it late at night, not a good move at the time.

  • best song eeevaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!! say hello, hello...WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

  • God Almighty - this STILL sounds good! memories....

  • In high school everyone knew that Elton John was gay, and possibly bi, and that was in 76 and nobody really cared. Who gives a damn about the guys personal choices in that the guy is really talented. Why do people make an issue of his personal life. Who gives a shit.

  • I love it too. Love is universal, it can apply to anyone. I loved this song as a teenager. I was that romantic at a young age. And I love great song writing. You guys don't know who wrote it even, why get into sexual preferences.

  • You are all wrong. This song is about Dennis Wilson's boat, "Harmony."!

  • Well I was blessed with the name Harmony and I love it. I thank my parents all the time for blessing me with an Original name !!

  • <
