this is not just music....its something else. Something better. and something I think we will never see again. Lets just enjoy it and be glad that we get it.
one of my absolute favorites, if that's possible. The various levels this song hits is so crazy incredible; it leaves me speechless, other than to say "hats off to you guys...another masterpiece!" I love you forever....thanks for bringing me so much joy!
I really don't give a shit who's playing the guitar solo. It's still a Stones song and I don't care if one of the Stones gets credit for it. They should get credit; they're good at faking it and they're amazing musicians anyway so they could play the damn solo if they had to. It's so annoying people trying to give credit to these unknown people.
That guitar solo fucking rules, fucking period you fuckingt lame ass posing, wish you had taste so you could enjoy said fucking solo, that your sorry ass is listeniing to, wishing upon a shining star that you reach for so desperately as the true love of it all leaves you soaking wet.
i'd forgotten how good this song was. Thank u youtube & uploaders. Damn, i don't even know how: to upload, play music, sing, at all well, or at least confidently. I suppose i could compose something...however much this writing is like decomposing, worm-like writhings, or shall i say squirm-like writhings.
The Rolling Stones. You could be driving home at 2 in the morning in the pouring rain hungover have to go to work in the morning, or you could be lazing on your Southern porch in the middle of the summer, or you could be cruising down the highway without a care in the world. All while listening to them. They have songs to fit all these situations
it seems like this song co,es from the heart i wonder which girl they were singing about..if anybody knows please let me know...thanks ..and peace in the middle east
what kills me is it seems just like yesterday, hanging out at the little record store in bay bridge brooklyn when this came out, the line at the ticketron for tickets. but the years got behind us.
Charlie is amazing, he went from thunderbird lookalike to hot to who remembers and back to just Charlie again, clad in his dressing gown and slippers when he quietly slips off the stage. So bemused the entire time, but what mean drums he always plays. Forever in the background, never making any grandiose statements about himself with the most famous and mesmerising glimmer twins strutting their antics in front of him for almost 50 years now. This is the one and only rock band ever!
@Bleadbelly1 You are correct sir. He did some awesome solos for the Stones on Black and Blue, apparently this song was done during those sessions. His melodic style was more like Mick Taylor's and part of me still wishes that, if they couldn't have MT, they would have hired Wayne Perkins.
@tigerfirefilms it's a left over song (the solo is played by Mick T) rumour has it it's even Wayne perkins (recorded during the Black and blue sessions) and it makes sence, try listning to hand of fate (it's the same feeling and sound)
@Speedogreedo1 Yes, awesome guitar solo by WAYNE PERKINS, not Ron Wood as depicted in the vid. Spread the word. thumb this baby up to the top of the posts. The man deserves credit.
Ron Wood never played better, hahaha. It's called show-business and this is still rather harmless, compared to how far you can take that. Lots of examples, especially in the current music scene, where faking it is the new standard. BTW, it's common knowledge that most musicians hate to playback, let alone doing it to somebody else's music, which explains the expression on Wood's face.
It's strange how they all looked young in the mid 70's (a bit f*cked up - but young) and then after new years eve when it became 1980 - bang - Jurassic park.
@bcubed72 He said in a recent interview he hadn't completely kicked the heroin until 1984. Maybe that's why Undercover sounds like such a crap album, cuz he was off the heroin.
Really, really good!! But I must admit, that I prefer the later version, when Mick really give it all it can take! It`s just so daring to mix the high and low parts in that way,and it turns out to one of the best songs---if not THE best at the moment! Greetings Skyperunner3.
The solo is by Wayne Perkins who was auditioning for the Stones at the time as a possible replacement for Mick Taylor. By the time they shot this video Ron Wood was in the band. The song was recorded in 1975 but wasn't released until 1981 on Tattoo You.
"Start Me Up" also had its genesis in '75, under the proto title "Never Stop." Recording resumed in 1978-79, then retitled "Start It Up," for possible inclusion on either "Some Girls" or "Emotional Rescue."
@xapuceros I stand corrected. You're absolutely correct. I didn't realize your comment was referring back to SoberGeorge's, I thought you were referring to Wayne Perkins' lead guitar playing.
Not necessarily the best vocalist in the traditional sense, but Jagger often had a very expressive, creative and versatile way of singing. Much influenced by blues and later on soul and funk singers. The high part at 1:53 is rather moving.
Strange to see Ron Wood playback to a solo that was played in the studio by Wayne Perkins, but that's show-business, I guess.
No, it was actually American guitarist Wayne Perkins doing the solo...the song was cut back in the early-mid 1970's when they were audtioning for a replacement for Mick Taylor. He did contribute his guitar to 2 songs off this album, tho'...the songs were "Tops" and "Waiting on a Friend" .
I don't know if its because Charlie was the second oldest member of the band or if he was stoned but he just looks plum bored in pretty much every fuckin music video the stones did. He has this empty "what the fuck am I doin here?" expression on his face. Maybe he was tired of dealin with mick and keef's bitchin.
That's just Charlie's 'normal guy' attitude, which was vital to keeping the band glued together all these years. He's just a solid family man, still married to the same woman for nearly fifty years (as opposed to the others endless marriages and divorces), raises his Arabian horses and lives on a Scottish farm. He's the Buster Keaton of Rock - deadpan expression but doing what he does best.
Always interesting to see Mick in motion, the primal "current" permeating from his every pore......so called "evil"...unbound,manifested upon this plane......
Yes, they both are definitly. But Ronnie is my favorite. He's just so sexy, the way he moves, dresses. He's got that hot gypsy blood in him that makes him so irrisistable to me. :)
The Stones wrote all of their best songs with Mick Taylor. Tattoo You was a compilation album of songs written in the 70's, but it is a great record. Emotional Rescue was a great record too.
Why should they have, then or ever? Millions, me amongst them, love everything they do. And as Keith says, he's too old to learn a trade. I hope they never stop.
Great song. Bill Wyman once said he never felt nervous playing in front of 80,000 people but DID get nervous being filmed for videos. And you can see him get really self-conscious when the camera closes in on him at 4:33!
Charlie- too cool twirling his sticks & smirking! Ronnie stealing that shirt from his old mate Rod Stewart! Bill looking like he's gonna fall over laughing! Mick being campy faux "gay"! and Keith- damn brother looks like he actually brushed his hair here! god I love this fuckin band!
First chords of this song = first chords of "You're my Best Friend" by Queen. Normally I'd ignore it, (hey, there are only so many pleasant to the ear chords in the world), but even the keyboard tone is identical! Same. Exact. Thing. Not a rip-off though.

Probably the last time Mick stayed so close to Keith for more than 5 minutes. Nice ending to this video.
