Wow, this is a really good video. I am a student as well and like you my tutors all 3 try to teach me a different way so it's really confusing and I never really understood how to correctly made long layers. Also I don't really understand overdirecting/underdirecting. But isn't this a 180 degree cut?
@crissyyo Thankyou! Yes I found that problem when I was learning that all your tutors try to teach you different ways, and in the end you will work out your own favourite way which could be a combination of all the ways you were shown! for overdirecting, if you imagine placing the end of a comb flat against the top of the head, and stand and look at it from the side, you get an L shape angle. if you tip that comb forwards or backwards /_ or \_ that becomes an overdirection! -Anywhere on the head
YOUR VIDEO WAS GREAT. i HAVE BEEN DOING HAIR FOR ABOUT 15 YEARS BUT NEVER KNEW THE CORRECT WAY OF HOW TO CUT LAYERS. YOUR VIDEO IS GREAT FOR BEGINNERS!
@giehlc It really depends on the hair thickness and texture you are doing this cut on. and also the length of the hair. If the hair is particularly long, you don't want to lose too much weight in the bottom lengths of the hair and make it look ratty and thin, but on shorter hair yes you could blend more.
just wanted to let you know that you have this listed as a 90 degree haircut but really its a 180 degree...meaning that everything is being pulled up and into your stationary guideline which is a 180 degree...a 90 degree cut is when the hair is being pulled out to 90 degrees all around the head
@000XxXMaisyXxX000 Thanks very much! Glad you found it useful. When I learnt I found my tutors very confusing because they all tried to teach me a different way and I never knew which way was the right way!
doesnt matter how much you comb those things out as soon as you are done it tangles right back up again lol! so glad i never have to use one again lol!
this is truly the best and perfect video i've been looking for. people only know how to layer the front with is called angling. this is REAL layers that very few people knoe how to do. GREAT JOB!

Did you have to blend the back when you were finished? I've done it this way and it seems like it still needs blending to take off the tepees.
