I disagree with the person who posted this. He has a very stable voice. He has more control then most "experienced" singers and at his young age to. Not to mention, he hits amazingly high notes,
So far I've seen quite a lot of videos of Vitas, gotta say the man's quite impressive. As a musical enthusiast, There's not reason for doubting this man's vocal capabilities. He sounds wonderful, and to him it's easy to pull off. His natural voice is quite high, so singing in Falsetto is easy. I'm bass sounding and I can pull of some of the things he is singing. And to those who are wondering why he's not making any faces while hitting high notes, it's 'cause with Falsetto it's easy :)
all artists lip sync at 1 point in their careers, wether it intentional or wether they r too ill to sing but mime insted due to bad throught infections.. ect.. but this dude can sure hit them notes.
@PahangDragonbird actually, it might be his voice. However, it isn't amplified so it sounds off tune under the camera mic. If you were to actually attend this concert, I'm sure his voice would be in perfect pitch. I went to his concert and heard this myself during La Donna Mobile, O Sole Mio, etc.
One more difference, at 0:43, as he ends the note, in the studio version there is something strange he does with that note. Near the end he sings it slightly differently as well, with a different tone (they turn up the mic sensitivity to record his last note farther away from the mic, so he sings without as much amplification, ie. almost without a microphone but good enough that there is no blank sound recording for TV broadcasts, etc.)

this concert can show you a bit of Vitas singing without the microphone, but the audience is also singing with him. In Smile, it sounds and looks almost as if he's hitting a lower note during the high note of Smile LOL
it's kind of unfortunate that Vitas has to "prove" he's live. In some recent performances of Opera 2 and The Star at several festivals in China, and also many tour performances of Bird of Happiness, he very differently during the main lines until choruses (he sounds a bit tired).

it's lip sync. e.g. 1:16 - 1:17 and 1:54 - 1:59 when he had big bodily movements, his voice stayed exactly like before, sounded like he stood and recorded the song all the way through (as if in a studio setting).

I do not know why so many people are getting pissed on whether or not Vitas uses his real voice or if it is just already programmed (on the track). There are sooooo many men who can sing in the same key as Soprano singers. They exist, so this is not that unusual. What is amazing about Vitas is that he became famous with his contra-tenor voice. Well no debate for me. He sings live! I heard him from the first row 3 times now. You can clearly hear his voice when he pulls the mic away. Thousands have witnessed this. Just believe it. And if you have opportunity to see his live concert, do it! You will not believe it is possible until you hear it for yourself, but he sounds even better live.

Yeah, I agree... a bit unstable for him. I believe this is sung live. You can notice that the gradual increasing of the voice (when he starts singing without the mic focused at his mouth) is proportionate to the time that the voice should sound on the amplifier.
I really think you're just not used to a singer that can duplicate his tone nicely and perfectly. It's a sign of real talent, as you hear other singers sound generally worse in concert because their song is not heavily modified like in their albums.

I'm sorry to say, but after watching numerous videos of him performing live, he is most certainly lip syncing. His mouth isn't open wide enough, and he doesn't inhale before what would be a large effort. His chest neither expands nor shrinks.
From my own singing experience, since he has a mic, he only needs to generate the correct pitch, and allow the speakers to carry his voice. What needs to be opened is not the mouth, but the throat. The lungs do not hold as much air, nor have as much control of airflow as the stomach. If you have great airflow control, along with well trained vocals, it isn't necessary to inhale a large amount of air in an obvious manner. Everything you've mentioned leads me think he's an excellent vocalist.
I respectfully disagree. From the sound of the vocals, he is supposed to be singing with effort. The best vocalists on the planet show visible signs of effort (see Michael Maniaci), and Vitas is nowhere near their level. You can't have your voice sound like effort is being put through and sing quietly. If he wwas singing quietly, it would sound like it. hether he pre-records his vocals then syncs it or if it another vocalist (Milli Vanilli), is another story.
I had to look up Michael Maniaci to know what he sounds like. Something I noticed is that Michael is amazing, and he has a definitely better tone quality than Vitas. Something else I noticed is that in this video, Vitas had no lyrics. When you have no need to ennunciate, your jaw, and much of your face, has no need to change, thus the appearance of effortless. Another thing, Vitas uses the falsetto, which is a way of cheating to get high notes..
.. while at the same time it produces a very airy sound. Most of the control comes from airflow in this technique (like playing a flute), while Maniaci had a very strong voice, plus lyrics, and that requires skill and what you mentioned as visible effort. Just my opinion, but the two of them sing very differently. And yes, I too believe while I think Vitas is the real deal, he had his share of lip-syncing for certain performances. I just don't think it's this one.

I think some of the best proof that he sings live is Smile Live in Xian 2009.
In that concert he pulls the microphone away from his mouth, but if you listen really carefully, you can still hear his voice.
If you listen carefully to Dedication or Opera 1, you'll notice that there's slightly less vibrato in certain areas of the song.

Definitely live. His voice's tone is different, like "ohhh" not "ahhh" in studio version. and in 0:16 his voice is a little out of tune
