Hey, Buicks are not old people cars! I'm 16 and I drive an '08 Lucerne CX. It's a safe, and beautiful ride. Buicks aren't dated, just classy and designed impeccably. Looking forward to driving this car for many years to come. We used to have a '92 Skylark that JUST died on us. Had it for over 17 years, that's what I call quality. Long time Buick fan. :)
Sad that buick is less popular here than in China. This Lucerne is really underated. Another sad thing. Its a nice big comfortable sedan. Great for the family. Much better than an SUV which is nothing but a gas hog.
Why is he insisting that this car is only on the market for elderly people? Im 17 and I personally like this car. It would be a lot better if it was rwd, but we live in the mountains and it snows a lot so we probably need a fwd. I really like this car though, better than the new Lacrosse. Now the new Lacrosse, there's an old persons car, it screams Lexus. The old Lacrosse was so much better.
I dont see the point of putting a V8 in this, its FWD. The V6 is fine, its also a lot cheaper too and suits this car better. They should put a V8 in the Enclave instead.
Yes, this seems perfect for long commutes and jobs that require one on the road (highways and such) where one doesn't need a corner carver but where one wants space, a little pick-up, decent safety, and a certain American car personality. The prices are so good for 2- to 3- year old models (Supers and other V-8's). If I have one criticism it would be that it could use a 6-speed and slightly better mileage like the Avalon.
im 25 and doing quite well for myself so i was looking for a car that let people know that ,,,without being to cocky and i think the lucerne strikes a happy medium without going over the top like a jag, mercedes or one of those in your face chrysler 300's...
binarytool10110: Yes, buy a car to let people know how well you're doing financially (at your douchey job) you douche rather than just buying the car you want for yourself. Douche.
Soamsey.. You should ask the walmart manager for a raise and to be promoted to head isle #3 cleaner. your parents will be so proud they might even get you a new racecar bed......
Just for that I'm not going to greet you next time you come into the store, you meanie. AND I'm going to make you show me your receipt for that 20 gallon drum of KY.
We're literally talking about sub-300 pound-feet/HP numbers from a 4.6L V8, while the DI 3.6L V6 can manage to produce over 300HP (albeit with sub 300 torque).
The interior is better than the Avalon or ES350. Also it drives as well as the ES350, which is to say not very well. If you want a relaxing drive you could do worse. Also you can get these cars for a song used. I'd buy a 2 year old low miles Lucerne w/leather over a new Corolla or something no question.
Use your head - he's talking about price. If one has 17 grand and is buying some generic new car (e.g., Corolla) one could pause and rethink it and ask "What could I get that's more luxurious on the used market for the same price?" Not an ES350 but yes a Lucerne since these cars go for a song used (Remember when he said that, ace?). Reason things out next time before responding.
GM kills Pontiac and lets a stodgy old division like Buick continue with this SHIT?? Bring back a GSX or GNX or Grand National type of car, and bring someone who hasen't seen the Isenhower administration back into the showrooms!
The parts-bin interior is a major disappointment. The steering wheel is dated and all too familiar among GM brands. Same goes for the radio and climate controls. The 2010 LaCrosse is gonna send the Lucerne straight to the chopping block.
im a gm fan (huge) but buick is just so boaring and only old people buy them!
plus the baselines are shit!...i cant believe that gm is only going to keep buick, gmc, cadillac, and chevy.... wouldn't you think that buick would be the least selling of all of their original 8 brands? i think this new change isn't goign to do much for them, in fact if i were to get rid of a brand it woud be buick!
but i can see gm just rebadging some cars as these 4 brands
i have this car and its amazing. i love the v8 and the comfort, but the best thing is its reliability- 100,000 miles without a single problem. my last buick had over 250,000 with very minor trouble. amazing cars.
Oh god that interior looks terrible....how can this be a luxury car? Looks like a cheap chinese copy of 1999 Mercedes S class. No offence....but this is 20 years behind anything from europe , japan or caddilac.
It can have leather, wood, aluminum whatever....its still a 20 year old design and all badly put together. And it looks cheap. And sorry, a car with such interior cannot be called a luxury car. Dacia Logan in europe (which is the cheapest 4 door saloon costing only 7000 euros) has a better looking and better build interior than this buick.
oh realy? they had this technology and desings back in 1989. thank you for that history lesson. im sure that means the japanese must of had hover cars like a decade ago right?
They have to replace this FAST. With the new Genesis and soon, the new 300, prowling the streets, Buick has to step up ASAP.
They should enlarge the G8's platform slightly for just a bit more room like a Genesis. Give it the 2010 LaCrosse's levels of styling and detail inside and out, and offer the 3.6DI standard with the 6.0L in the CXS and the 6.2L in the Super.
Pleaaase, GM. How can you let Hyundai run over your own brand?
my grandmother is more athletic than yours!!!!!!!!!!! lol no i agree just thought that was funny as hell. i think the new camaro will really help though, except they got rid of the pontiac line up. maybe they really do need to bring back some more muscle. like they shoulda done the trans am again.
The idea of this car isn't to give old people as much horsepower as we can. That would be insane! If old people want horsepower they should get a Corvette. This car is old school: a big, huge battleship!
True. But I recall GM/Buick execs stating that they were attempting to move away from the marketing theme "retiree's choice", hence the more agressive exterior styling of the last few years. Having driven one, the ride is "floaty" like a boat and feels just as comfortable as my parent's old '85 Regal. The tech options are null and dull just as in STS, but the luxury and room cant be beat.
The key to remember is torque and the overall power curve. There are a lot of ways to cheat around a HP spec, so you really have to read the torque spec and look at the engine RPM where they peak.
Completely valid points, and with any other marque they would be relavent. But with Buick, I'm not sure, especially since the Cobalt has 260 ft/lbs of torque and the Lucerne 288.
The Cobalt SS uses forced induction (turbo/supercharger) so it can't really be compared to a naturally aspirated engine. 294 hp out of an 8 cylinder is kind of low though.
you have it wrong, all gm cars are the same it's the people who put them together, americans are lazy and don't assemble their vehicles as well as canadians, and the chineses that's why our cars last longer :p
For the same price, I'd rather have a Hyundai Genesis with wheelbarrow loads more luxury content, more able suspension, and nearly 100 more horsepower from the same engine. Not to mention a 10 year/100,000 mile warranty. No thank you, Buick.
Yes. Although, your average southern old people buy most of them. The Chinese use The "Century" and "Regal" models as police cars in some parts of the country. lol.

Let me guess, you're either European, or an American that's been brainwashed by society to think that American cars suck...
The Lucerne, Lacrosse, and Enclave are all great looking vehicles, and damn reliable, too. You get the luxury of a Cadillac for a lower price (though old people do seem to be attracted to Buicks...)

those engine spec numbers are not perplexing, you are just new to the car knowledge world. they traded some torque curve to the higher end

That's still awful for a V8 today.
Hence why the Northstar's being dropped.
Vitaminous 2 years ago 2
be honest with me, and yourself, do you know what a torque curve is?
