: ) not the words to write how happy I am to see this... was at this show (same side of the stage)... magical... you are the very best! Special blessings to you!
Don't know what song came before or after this in the set, but Truckin' would fit perfectly "Busted on Bourbon Street" which is about their famous set at the Warehouse and getting busted while they were here in New Orleans.
Jerry back out East. After wearing out the Kaiser Dec 86 tape after he came back from his coma, we came from Chicago with force. The Spaceship exploded the first night. Jerry was AMPED up, and the crowd was ready. Second set the first night Sugar Mag>Scarlet>Fire. However, for those that went to all three nights, it will the Terrapin Station from the 3rd night that will always stand out as one of the best ever...maybe the best, IMO.
@BeReal65 the whole weekend was great. the first road trip i took. and still some of the best shows i ever saw. the first night was raw. second, right on third, nice and trippy. what a weekend. if i wasnt taught better, i never would have come home from this trip, but responsibilities got the better of me.
Heard them tighter, sometimes, but cannot think of a happier image of Jerry than this . . .year after the coma and relearning the guitar and just damn f*cking happy to be alive . . .
Three of my favorite shows of my touring days. Jerry was back on tour after his diabetic coma (did I get that right?) and his enthusiasm, and the crowds', was huge, huge, huge. I drove down from Vermont with a good friend and two of my brothers to attend the show. Wow, we had fun. (Corby's dad)
@LeadHeads555 Hey Dan! Me and my wife and brother and some friends had a great time at these shows too..Drove down from NH. Your son and his friends are very, very talented. I enjoy watching and listening to his band..Stay tuned ...I have the other two nights of Hampton coming up soon ..some very extrodinary footage. The Terrapin from the third night is incredible. Jerry is on fire..Peace, Steve from NH
@richiemabie thanks for the kind words about the Lead Heads. and, as previously posted, my Hampton '87 road trip with my two bros is one of my favorite memories. i particularly remember this Iko. Peace
How much GD Diddley beat stuff can you get in a set? there's no such thing as too much. saw them in Pittsburgh 7/6/87, did this one with the Neville brothers in between Samson and Women are Smarter... miss them like i miss my youth.
I can compare Jerry's first iko solo in this version with pre-coma 85 stuff. Sometimes I think...yeah, he lost something but then others I see post coma stuff and he's just fast and detailed as ever. Overall I guess it was just his lifestyle. The band and audience were definitely driving each other.
@NCCAJAX i dont know about that maybe the jerry experience is gone but I just saw Furthur again at red rocks last nite and they open with iko iko the way bobby phil john and all the other guys were playing was so fucking amazing it sounded like way back in the day
Gracia must have been diggin on those Ikos that spring, because I saw them in Worcester and he was dancing then too. I think he was probably just happy as hell to be alive.
I dunno dude, its THE DEAD. i am a NOLA resident and i see dr john quite a bit but theres no reason to put any of the artists down. its all excellent. And the dead rock live.
@bluesman841 was just about to say the same thing. This right here, is what it is all about. I dont know how anyone can watch this video and not smile from ear to ear
The boys absolutely loved Virginia. They always played so well there.... was it the blue ridge mountains, the blue smoke coming off the mountains (shaconage), or the smoke emanating from somewhere else?
I was at this run. The place was so on fire with Jerry having bounced back from his coma, and making his East Coast appearence. The Terrapin Station from the 3/24 is by far the most uplifting and crowd frenzied I have ever seen or heard. This great stuff..thanks so much!
Also, after 20 years, these soundboards have now surfaced. They have been redone by Charlie Miller! I had looked forever. This is the true value of technology!
Thanks for proving my memory of this, my second show (my first was the night before) being so high energy. The night before just as the lights went down, I felt a tap on my shoulder and I turned to see a long-haired freak smile with a glow stick in his mouth. I was home! Hampton rocks.
This tune always reminds me of golf! I met a fellow Deadhead on the golf course once, and he gave me a tape with Aiko Aiko on it. I had never heard the tune before. I still have that Maxell UD 90, and the Dead still sound great on it.
Bob always seemed to get something thrown at him....glow sticks, shirts, balls,flowers,bras...are just a few I can remember...the shirts would wrap around the neck of his guitar.. much to his annoyance :)
: ) not the words to write how happy I am to see this... was at this show (same side of the stage)... magical... you are the very best! Special blessings to you!
