I met these guys about 3 or 4 years ago in the back of the Cellar Door in Visalia, CA. They were touring with 3 bands and all sharing the same equipment. After their sound check they came out in the daylight in the back of this small club where I happened to be. I asked them what band they were with and I had never heard of them before. I remarked that it was a strange name and questioned whether it was meant to be God backwards, Just an ambiguous response by them. Two years later I realize
@mattmonson7 ELO went through several phases and styles. This is very reminiscent of stuff like Can't Get You Out of My Head, Mr. Blue Sky, and Telephone Line. Not meant to detract from them - every band has influences.
@OurBabyDolphus Well I don't listen to bad music, and I wasnt complementing Justin Beiber LOLz, I was saying this song sucks so bad that Justin Beiber is better..... get it?
And granted this is all subjective but all I said was that imo good music is in tune and not sung off key. So basically I was shocked at how many ppl actually like this song.
@evergreen9375 you must be a tone deaf retard man...i dont think you realize that almost all popular music these days uses something called "auto-tune" because they dont know how to sing. these guys are epic...and he know how to sing...
@evergreen9375 hahaha you dont know shit about music, this guys has a very different voice,, tune up your radio and drive to nowhere,, cause thats where your musical knowledge will take you,, haahhaaa so lame dude.. so lame
@FEZZARONNI He does have a different voice and good music is subjective. That still doesn't change the fact the song is sung out of tune. And you have no way of knowing the background of my musical knowledge so don't make absurd assertions, they just paint a negative picture of you.
@evergreen9375 Bob Dylan, Neil Young, The Clash, Devo, even the Beatles would often sing/play "out of tune". Surely an octave can be subdivided more than 12 times, right? If you want something to really blow your mind, listen to Harry Partch. Ahahahahahahaha.
@evergreen9375 This band recorded with nothing but very old recycled equipment on the back of old track tapes when this and their older albums were recorded. the most lo fi you could imagine.. and they still managed to write some of the best songs and produce great harmonies and have fun when they were very young and unknown. They were a local band with no money and made it out of the basement. Yes.. music is very subjective..and we like it.
@2Pockets0 Not trollin, I found this song because my phone's song finder gave me this song info, so I looked it up later and was extremely disappointed in the song as I think we all would be if we find some random song that we think is god awful, obviously a mistake on the song finders part :P
I'm old school pop music...McCartney, Lennon, Wilson, Lynn, etc. Dr. Dog has succeeded in recapturing a lot of that magic. The harmonies and musical antics in many of their songs recall an earlier era. How refreshing to hear this music, especially when contrasted to what tries to pass for modern pop today. Rock on, Dog!
In these first albums (and in my opinion, largely this track) it's as if they took the best of Brian Wilson, Beatles, and Bowie and just ran with it. Coming up to the music magic level of those fellas - if not surpassing them!
idk why everyone is always talking about modern music being terrible. it's really not. mainstream shit is worse than ever, but that's not news. there are so many talented bands today that deserves respect.
I spent so much time on my own, teaching myself guitar and thinking about what style to develop, and I then I find a band that outdoes me. How I love these guys.
@rambleonrose93 forgive me for commenting on my own post, but i forgot about hearing this until i saw this comment, i thought it seemed familar, wow thats weird
Why do bands without any heart or soul in their music receive such "glorious" credit from pitchfork while Dr. Dog keeps the spirit-of-it-all in theirs music?
pitchfork is terrible. look at their top 10 of '09. Phoenix and the xx's? who the fuck are these xx assholes. I bet raekwon is embarrassed to be on the same list. this song shall own forever.
I know exactly what you mean. It's the same with Megafaun. They actually have some heart and they don't get anywhere near the amount of press that vapid bands like Fleet Foxes and Mumford do.
you think Fleet Foxes are vapid? I really dig them just as much as Dr. Dog and Megafaun. I don't get why people have to hate on bands to make a point about their fave bands not getting enough recognition. Come on now. There's enough love for everybody. :)
Well they are excellent, but think about it, music has to change. Although I hate modern music, this is more classic rock, David Bowie, Beatles, kind of stuff, and is great, but there are still superb bands out there, you just have to be willing to give the time of day up.
Just found this band... Must go and buy everything they've ever done...
