  • 11:16 "Open this gate" and "Tare down this wall."

  • I may hate Reagan, but this speech and his role in the fall of the CCCP are just magnificent.

  • I wanna be as good a speeker as Mr. Raegan...

  • In Georgia(country) Reagan is a great person, which helped to all occupied nations to see freedom. Berlin's wall fell down, and all walls of evil necessarily will fall!!!!!!!!

  • as a Berliner i was 7 years old when Mr Reagan came. Seeing this today its hard to hold my tears back

  • Reagan was a terrible president during his years in office were the worst for the economy and also employee was at it's rock bottom hmm it's funny how easy people forget the bad thing about a president

  • @Assassinscreed0925

Assassincreed _ ur dateed name in itself how little you know prior to 1985. You were not even alive when Reagan made this speech.... so do urself a favor and STFU u might learn something! PS( by the way his years in office were some of the greatest this country has ever known.... unless ur a socialist)

  • @Assassinscreed0925

reagan saved the economy, he stopped run away inflation and ended crippling regulations and made the country prosperous again

  • @Assassinscreed0925 Actually, the economy in the 1980's was A LOT better than it is now and better than when Carter was in office. I remember Ronald Reagan. He was a great president. He loved this country. Research the man because what you say sounds very ignorant when it comes to the subject of Ronald Reagan. Sounds like you get your information from those who, I personally believe, hate this country!

  • @Assassinscreed0925 Unemployment rates during the Reagan presidency: 1980: 7.0% 1981: 7.5% 1982: 9.5% 1983: 9.5% 1984: 7.4% 1985: 7.1% 1986: 6.9% 1987: 6.1% 1988: 5.4% 1989: 5.2% President Reagan oversaw more economic growth during his tenure than any other president before him, or after.
  • @bayushizero

Believe it or not Bush actually beat him. In part because Bush didn't come into office with a situation like Reagan did.

  • Does anybody remember or even know that the 4 powers, France, England, US and the Soviet Union agreed to split up Berlin after WWII ? Unknowingly, I am sure, that action gave the Soviet Union way too much power.

When the wall finally did come down we cut US troops on German soil from 750,000 to 50,000. I hope we did not make a mistake when we did that.

  • @Fraulein2901 the problem wasnt that berlin was separated between the 4 powers, its that the soviets blocked their half from the rest of the world and surpressed some of their freedoms

  • Trtftfgtttty

  • contrast this great man with the weasel obama!

  • Yep, it was his words that done it.

  • did thatcher go the gate and make a speech ??? nooooo. just imagine this speech hadnt been made

  • Great, freedom-loving pres. who spoke from the heart w/ determined faith that encouraged these Germans & brought tears to Chancellor Kohl. Pres Reagan's German--great! Many prayed for E. Germany for yrs. Our church choir did a singing tour there just before Wall came down! Faith was key, never giving up & trusting the Lord in prayer. Pres Reagan spoke truth, hope & faith! Thank the Lord for Pres Reagan! Nov 9: Happy World Freedom Day & Fall of the Berlin Wall Day (1989)! Thanks,Reagan Foundation

  • God what a wonderful country we had back then...the height of the cold war, we had our morale back, the world respected us and loved us and had our support, all thanks to this man...we were unstoppable, and there was nothing that could stand in our way, and most of all, we were happy and proud as Americans...god I want my country back so bad...I want that old America back so bad right now it's not even funny.

We have become the laughing stock of the world, our own people hate our country...

  • Reagan was the absolute best modern President ever ! What a fantastic and powerful speech. A great leader who stood up for what he believed. God bless Reagan.

  • @BretFinster6

Reaganomics lifted the U.S. out of the Carter recession, it was military spending that cost the big bucks, but a small price to pay for the fall of world Communism in the minds of Conservatives (and military spending is an acceptable expense for Conservatives, it one of the things the government IS actually supposed to do). Medicare and Medicaid were here before Reagan, were defended by the Democratic Congress, and was not going to be plausibly removed.

  • We missed the mark. John McCain, if I remember right, could have been elected as the new oldest President ever (only by a few years). And from what I see, the older you are, there's more power you have, there's more experience you have, and there ain't nobody who messes with you. Looking at Ronald Reagan here, he was 76 and he was making a revolutionary speech. The U.S. could definitely benefit from a much older and more experienced President.

  • what happened to those Freedom Values?? What happened to that basic right of people to pursue happiness??

  • What's the German he speaks around the @2:00 mark?

  • @CytotoxicTrev He says in english: "Where ever I go, whatever I do" then in german "I still keep a suitcase in Berlin".

(Ich habe noch einen Koffer in Berlin.)

  • One of the greatest speakers of all time.

  • Obama is not the worst president in history

    Neither was Bush

Reagan is considered by many to be the best

But there were many things that he was lacking in

At any rate, he made real success, and he inspired the American people.

Democrat, Republican, it doesn't matter. What matters is that he helped make the nation willing to move forward, and in the end neither economic, domestic, or foreign policy matters as much as that.

  • This speech sends chills down my spine. All done by a true American hero!!

  • 22 people are Obama supporters.

President Ronald Reagan = Greatest Speech Ever!

Please, God, raise up another future President like Mr. Reagan! Quickly!

God Bless You, Mr. Reagan. There'll never, ever be another President like you who kept this country strong & on the right track. R.I.P., Sir!

  • Wishing for the days when Reagan was president and America was on top of the world.

  • @ebturner66 What happened to you guys? As a Canadian, I am cautious about what I say here. Your country stood for so much with President Reagan. With Obama? Apologies for everything--I think, sometimes apologies for being America! What happened? What happened to your space endeavours? Wow!

  • What happened to this country? I don't recognize my country anymore. We need a spiritual and economic awakening, or Orwell's "newspeak" will take over.

  • I honestly can't belive your using Ronald Reagen's Berlin Speech to give Obama props for nothing besides Osama he hasnt done anything. It's also definatly an oversight to downplay Reagan's role in the fall of the Soviet Union every president during the Cold War did Their part its not some more than others. Do you think Gorbachev would of implemented glastnost and perestroika if a more passive man was president? Obama wants to take land from israel and make and even bigger mess. Reagan > Obama!!

  • @seenoevil760 i agree with you, obama is just the worse president we have ever had BY FAR he's all talk and no do, i cannot wait to turn 18 so i can vote!!!

  • @seenoevil760 Reagan was the first President to challenge the legitamacy of the Soviet Union which it strived for. He abhored "detente" and "containment". He thought we could win the Cold War, which no other American president had the gall to say. That is why Reagan deserves credit for the fall of the Soviet Union.

  • still puts chills down my spine

  • 18 people can't tear down the wall

  • I'll admit Reagan was a great president. However, he had the luxury of being president during the final years of the Soviet Union as it was in its death throes. Let's not forget JFK speech at Berlin, which was at the peak of the Cold War. Also, let's not forget that Obama inherited a country that was already in a huge mess. Lets not forget that Obama said that it might not even take a term or two terms. To fix this country. I support Obama and change will happen question is how long will it take

  • @Guantan45 well hows he's doing a bang up job in the wrong direction, unless you call 13 trillion dollars in debt a "fix" rofl

  • @Guantan45 When Reagan took office the country was in worse shape than it was when Obama took office. Also in the amount of time where Obama has yet to create a single job Reagan changed an over 10% unemployment to 7% unemployment.

  • @Guantan45 obama does bring out that optimism in ppl. I've had enough bs though. liberals like 2 call Republicans crazy war-hungry maniacs, and yet Reagan help bring down the soviets without pointless armed conflicts, while obamas all full of empty promises of bringing home the troops and gets us involved in libya and shit. there's no need 4 this war ppl. I'm no hippie, but come on, less government intervention in all aspects, please! non-intervention in foreign, social and economical policies!

  • I love this speech. It's not technical, didn't really have any complex ideas, he just spoke of the injustices of the Soviet Union, the advances under capitalism, and his want for all people to have everything that we as Americans have.

  • Obama is a joke next to this man. Mr. Obama, come out and leave the White house!! Mr Obama, Leave our freedom alone!!!!

  • 我爱里根。I Love Reagan.

  • greatest speech ever written. perfect example on how masterfull words can bring down a wall..

  • REAGAN SMASH!

  • GREATEST PRESIDENT EVER,my hero,,,A TRUE AMERICAN

  • regan went hard

  • It takes a carter to get to a Reagan. I just pray that the people of this great nation can elect someone as great as Reagan to fix what obama has done.

  • Dear Lord,

Do we need Men who are Men in this Nation again.

  • What contrast with the loser who occupies the office now, so bent on appeasing our enemies and alienating our allies.

  • one of the greatest speeches of all time written by peter robinson and read by one of the greatest presidents of all time.. poetry to my ears..

  • Remember when there were real men around? For all you men out there, a real woman wants a real man. You go Reagan! I love you! "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!" Guess what happened? That wall was torn down.

  • HE IS THE GREATEST PRESIDENT EVER!

    I LOVE HIM!

  • I got cold chills...

  • Sunday, February 6, 2011: HAPPY 100TH, MR. PRESIDENT! R.I.P.

  • We definably need more presidents like him, who knows where we could be if he, or people like him were still here...

  • Happy Birthday 100th To The REAL Captain America...This Speech sums it all up for all to see.

  • Comment removed

  • Ronald Regan really was the great communicator

  • Its that last words of RR that do the real trick for me. Thats his personal thouch, the rest is beautifull but speechwriters stuff. His las 'word', is where he improvised on the best and most truthfull verbalization of the political devision between 'the west and the rest'! DEMOCRACY!

  • Die Amerikaner glauben immer noch, Reagans Geschwafel habe irgendwas zum Mauerfall beigetragen.

  • @bimhimbim i'm not sure how many people believe that this speech was the cause. We do take credit for leading the revolution away from socialists and communism via an economic and arms technology race.

We are much more clear on who is responsible for the holocaust.

  • @bimhimbim

Mein Deutsche ist nicht sehr gut. Verstehen vielen Deutchen Englisch? Wie den verstehe die Leute im Platz Herr Reagan?

  • Can someone tell me about that tower he spoke of, that when it reflects the sunlight it projects the signal of the Cross

  • After the Carter years, the military was demoralized and the country was in a deep funk. Then came Reagan and made us feel so proud to serve America again. You don't get to pick your commander-in-chief except with your individual vote...but I was extremely proud to serve under Reagan and decided to make a career of the military becasue of his inspiring leadership. May he rest in eternal peace.

  • I'm a Democrat and I have high respects for Ronald. There aren't Republicans like him anymore.

  • @DrDoom9000

    this is very true

  • @DrDoom9000 I'm a Consrvative and I agree.

  • "East and West do no mistrust each other because we're armed. We're armed because we mistrust each other." Reagan was as much a politician as he was a poet. That speech does more than communicate, it's a work of art.

  • I miss you

  • Pelosi just Vaulted us back over the wall folks, she climbed over the gate and parachuted us all into Hell.

  • Yes he was a great leader-thank god we had another ally in Margaret Thatcher as British PM,and and the moral support of Pope John Paul, all at the same time-3 of the greatest proponents of freedom at once in the 1980's-and the wall came down...because of them.......no honest person can deny their courage and determination-I was there.

  • The part every one wants (needs) to see start at 11:00

  • the marshall plan -- bomb germany to dust and then generously develop a marshall plan to rebuild it -- american logic! god bless america, what would we have done without your help???

  • I am a Canadian in my mid 30's and even though I was only 12 yrs. old at the time of this speech I still remember fondly, even as a boy,a president whom I believed was the greatest man in the world. As I have grown, learned more about the world, and changed my opinions in several ways, one thing has become a truth for me. President Reagan had some faults and he made some mistakes, like all of God's children, but I truly believe he was possibly the greatest man of the 20th century, along with Churchill.

  • Contrast this with Obama's disgraceful response to courageous popular opposition to repression in Iran and Honduras.

  • I was at Bradenberg Gate last summer (May 2010) and the first thing I thought of when I got there was this speech by the greatest President ever. It was just great to see the sight where one of the greatest speeches of all time happened.

  • wow very inspirational. Messages like this make me damned proud to be an American.

  • @curlylockproductions amen brother, same here.

  • The Oil companies are trying their best to stop free energy ideas from spreading to common ppl.

We need to put an end to this corruption ,start generating your own electricity now.

  • To be honest this is the first time I've heard this speech -- its the first of any of Reagan's speeches I've heard. I'm 22 years old, and I decided to listen to Reagan the first time after my boyfriend's mother suggested it. I'm glad I did. He's a wonderful speaker.

  • thanks. good video.

  • I still remember listening his talk in VOA as I was then a sophomore. Whenever his talk aired in VOA I listened with great joy because he is one leader i admire most.I still remember his state of the union address in the morning at around 7 O'clock and his sound lingers in my ear clear and sound. When he was reelected second time too I listened the story with great joy because he has got a charisma by which he inspired the people and laid the foundation for a stable US. Ron,You are great .

  • Wonderful speech ! I sincerely wish we had leaders like Reagan today - a truly freedom loving American who took pride in his own country. He was truly the best modern President ever. God Bless Ronald Reagan.

  • I miss voting for this man!

  • All the other Presidents just pale in comparison to him. I admire him so much, I even have his picture at my desk. I don't care what my liberals coworkers think. I just feel so proud we had Ronald Reagan as our President.

  • @mmoraleslisboa Me too! I have two posters of President Reagan in my garage just at the entrance going into my home. When people come to my home they just stand there, stare at him and start to reminisce. I was proud to vote for this man twice! The way he carried himself throughout the world made me so proud to be an American!

  • I'm in no position to pass judgement on any American president but for me Reagan will always be the embodiment of how leaders should be. I lived under communism and each time I saw him on TV he gave us hope that one day our ordeal would end.

  • What happened to leaders like him?

What happened to people like him?

and can we get them back?

    i sure hope so!

  • Oh, Mr. Reagan, I never got to live under your Presidency, I never knew you when you knew yourself, but You were a great man, & will forever, be immortalized as an amazing President! With the current puppet we have in the White House right now, destroying a country you worked so hard to keep alive and took such pride in, I long for another great man like you! Dear God, please save a nation that is crumbling with "tolerance and liberal thinking!" God Bless You Mr. Reagan, May you Rest in Peace

  • Gah.. After having softy Barack Obama in office for over a year now, it's hard to imagine that we used to have presidents that took pride in the American way and weren't afraid to be proud.

  • This is proof than when you take a stand, you create greatness. The way I see it, there is no greatness in D.C., and won't be until the right people fianlly take a stand.

  • I miss voting for that man

  • Few truly great men have lived in my lifetime, even fewer great leaders - President Reagan was among them. As a child I looked up to the President as an example of character, courage, and wisdom.

The United States is in need of such a leader now, President Reagan I miss you.

  • tear down this wall!!!!

We need a hero that is willing to do what is right, and do what ever helps his political power. Thank you Ronald Reagan!

  • He did this because he had the best military in the whole world behind him. History so far gives no recognition to the veterans of this war. I think we need to do something about this while they are still alive. You were my commander while I served and think he is hte greatest president of all time. May god bless your soul, mr.president, R.I.P.

  • Look...no teleprompter!!!!

  • This is just amazing. How soon we forget greatness.

  • Palin 2012

  • Greatest President EVER... PERIOD!

  • The hypocrisy of all of the conservatives, especially Sarah Palin, who tout this as one of the greatest American President speeches of all time, while simultaneously calling for the building of our own wall to "restrict the free passage of ordinary men and women" is astounding,

  • @kswifts1 even though i know its been a year since you stated this i bet you are still just as stupid. The Berlin wall stopped people from leaving we want to make a wall to stop illegals from entering illegally. Do you know the difference? Let me put it this way any one (illegal or legal) or always welcome to leave anytime they want and dont have to worry about being riddled with bullets.

  • @11:35 -12:05 amazing strength and courage to say those words!

  • An amazing speech by an amazing Statesman. I don't see many statesmen around today.

  • One of the best speeches ever! Thank you Sarah Palin, for this timely reminder of today's anniversary.

  • those were the days

  • me and my wife were there. we lived in Berlin form 1985-1988. we need a president like Reagan again.

  • einfach..............einzigartig....

  • In my opinion, this is without doubt the greatest speech ever made.

  • As a Liberal, I think he was a great man and his legacy of peace and freedom lives on forever.

  • An incredible and amazing President! I was a teen and remember watching this on tv. This country needs another Reagan in office!

  • President Reagan was an iconic example of what it means to love freedom, freedom on all levels, social and economic alike.

  • Praise God for men like President Reagan. Willing to stand up like a man and do what is right. They don't make them like they used to. "Tear down this wall"

  • Obama hates this day and hated what this event was all about...he wants communism back! read his thesis!!!

  • Funny:

US are building a wall to protect their pockets from poor illegal latinos... How long will it last?

  • Ronald Reagan had a kind of leadership that we simply cannot comprehend today. He was the kind of leader that we needed at the right time. I feel as time goes on he will be set as the standard of governance not only for U.S. presidents, but for leaders throughout the world.

  • Obama hated the wall coming down...that's why he didnt attend the 20 year anniversary.

  • & what is that guy talking in the back ground, it's through the whole speech, the same guy........

    translator?? lol i can't really hear :P

  • & so the olympics was held in berlin......

  • Odumbo hates this speech...thats why he didnt attend the 20 year anniversary of the fall of the berlin wall

  • I have to say - I have never agreed with Reagan's politics, but this is an incredible speech.

  • I wonder what would Mr Reagan say about the recent French idea to sell assault battleships to Russia

  • I am not a right winger by any mean's but this must of been the major catalyst that brought down communism from Berlin to Moscow.

This got people talking in the east.

  • It wasn't, contrary to popular belief. Glasnost, the Russian word for openness and free speech especially related to government, is what brought down the Soviet Union.

  • Look Zerobama, no teleprompter!

  • Obama hated the day the Berlin Wall fell...if it were up to him he would put it back up! that's why he didnt visit on the 20 year anniversary of it coming down.

  • I am wondering why people give a lot of hands down to this speech. It is great speech. A very great one. It is the past, present, and of all the speeches. Seriously! the best one. He is one of my favorite president. :)

  • @faithjul Because those people are all evil like their comrade Obama.

  • Mr. Gorbachev, open this gate!

Mr. Gorbachev, TEAR DOWN THIS WALL!

    Greatest President ever.

  • @spursrock2121 Mr. Obama, OPEN THE GATES OF LIBERALISM. Mr. Obama, TEAR DOWN THE HYPOCRISY OF CONSERVATIVISM!!!!

  • @spursrock2121 AMEN ! What a great President !

  • @spursrock2121 I do not agree. Gorbachev was the single reason to the end of the Cold War. He was the one separating the Soviet Union from the satellit states in the East Bloc. Gorbachev was the one introducing democracy (at the extent it was possible at that time) via his reforms. He was the one "securing" the implosion of the Soviet Union, that secured democracy for the Soviets. I do not agree that the SDI was the reason to the end of the war, but - of course - this is open for diskussion. :-)

  • @spursrock2121 Agreed.

  • I showed up there Berlin 13 years later, in 2000.

Nice town, but confusing if you don't know where you're going

  • thats my Bridge My Last name is Brandenburg and my family owns even though we live in america instead of germany

  • why did it cut out around 9:56?

  • Too bad B.O. Can't understand freedom like this Great Freedom Crusader Ronald Reagan.

  • I loved Reagan, too bad he didn't have the foresight to really know that freedom includes, rights for women, rights for gays and rights for other minorities. RIP Reagan, we'll finish the work you started.

  • Even though I'm only 14 I've read alot about what Reagan did and am proud to have had a man like him as president. This man will have always been a great president. Amen...

  • an amazing show of the influence of the president

  • This is a great speech and all US Presidents should have to watch or read it. They need to follow it, like the part were we have weapons to destroy them, That is what brought them to the arms reduction talks, NOT lets give up our weapons and defense and they will follow suit, like Obama's plan is.

  • We where blesed to have preisident like Reagan

He left us a lot of to learn from Obama should watch this every day before he goes to sleep !!!!

  • Greatest president America ever had, God bless america

  • This speech is President Reagan at his finest. He knew that the desire to be free cannot be surpressed forever and pledged that the US (while not perfect) would stand with freedom. Where does President Obama stand? Iran, Honduras, China, Iraq, Afghanistan?

  • When America was great, and the Presidency was more than a popularity contest. Thank you Ronald Reagan

  • El presidente lo mas grande del mundo.

    The best president ever.

  • kudos

  • During the recent events commemorating the tearing down of the Berlin wall, I don't think Uncle Ronnie's name came up once. You can ignore history, you can revise history, but you can't change it. Obama couldn't be a zit on this man's butt.

  • Why do we have government, money, an laws? Yes I know the world would be corrupt without them but if people would just have common sense and respect this would be a nice world. I guess that's just called world peace, but I guess world peace is heaven.

  • The three greatest speeches in American history: Gettysburg Address, I have a Dream, and Tear Down this Wall.

There may have been more lyrical speeches, but has any ever had a greater call to action?

  • this has been the best president this nation will ever have.

  • If the Russians did not that wall down it would still be up ! period.

  • God bless America!!!

The land of the free and the home of the brave!!!!

Go back to Kenya, Mr. Obama!!!

    My greetings from Brazil!

  • Stay in Brazil, rgmatos2.

    My greetings from America.

  • this is the kind of leadership we need right now.

  • Gott segnen Präsident Reagan.

  • Mr. Khrushchev said we will bury you, I don't subscribe to his point of view; believe me when I say to you, I hope the Russians love their children too - Sting; Do you remember the fear? Do not forget. Mr. B. Hussein Obama - could you imagine him trying to lead this country, no, the WORLD? President Reagan, I wish you were here today.

  • Well, Mr. Obama isnt really leading..he's just a placeholder lol

  • AMEN!

  • One of the greatest speeches ever ! The greatest President for freedom ever. To bad these words of courage were not mention during the 20th Anniversary speech given by Hillary (OMG) Clinton in Berlin. One can not up-stage the Messiah Obama.

  • Obama>Regean

  • I cried while watching this. Cried.

Where is the American president today?

Where is the call for freedom?

The desire for it, be assured, is still there, but it seems the man is not.

  • Great man, he is missed.

  • Here was a man!

  • God bless you Reagan. May we have a President like you again, one that will actually travel to commemorate freedom.

  • Thanks for the transcript UberGeek! I was a little worried there for a bit.

  • Compare Reagan to the publicity seeking moron now occupying the White House who did not even bother to come to Berlin and who is manipulated at will by Russians, Chinese and Iranians.
