10 years older. RM 'commandos' came in WWII after Churchill's army commandos. Veterans I know only demonstrate respect for one other (even former enemies). Army or marines, UK or US, agree that berets (green, red, black, or otherwise) dont stop lead. Try reading 'Chosen Soldier' on US special forces; completely different role to RMs/Paras or Rangers again modelled after in WWII army commandos. For real heroes Google 'Salford Pals Battle of Somme'. Thanks to all UK/US forces for protecting us.

@Kinderwerfer it was just a battle britian only lost 300 men and it was US biggest victory in the war britian took nealy all of americas coast and nealy pushed US forces into mexico britian won all the big battles only reason britian didnt finish US off is because there was massive wars in india africa and europe which thay was also fighting and that same year britian defeat napoleon

and also the origins of the US army Green Beret come from the royal marines

3/4 of all naval engagements were US victories.

Ft McHenry was never taken by the entire british fleet. Baltimore and New Orleans are just two of around 52 failed royal marines landings.

@Sturmmann If you're on about the war of independence you had the help of the French, Spanish and Dutch Armies and Navies and ended with us (I'm British) fighting all of them in Europe also. And yet we still made it last for 8 and a half years; so you didn't really do that well, just we were fighting upwards of 5 other countries at the time. Read the Wikipedia page on the 'American Revolutionary War' and learn a little. We had to protect Britain from invasion by Dutch and French you see.

no, only half of the Wash DC bldg burned down, it was later rebuilt. The british took too long to make a decission on whether or not to actually burn...shortly thereafter a storm ensued and doused the fires.

Wash DC also had a riot at this time. The town was looted lightly but the citizens of the town did more damage to it in either case.

Now...York was burned down.

We won the Revolution because of the French, and nobody really benefited from 1812 so really there's nothing to complain about...
