Brilliant movie! one of the most underrated and misunderstood movies in recent memory, it was Cameron's story since 1988 and he wrote his script in 1993 but didn't film it because of the lack of technology and had it on hold for a decade until 2005 then rewrote the script in 2006. Sure he borrowed from Last of the Mohicans, Princess Mononoke, Nausicaa, Dune, Heavy Metal, Willow, Fantastic Planet, LightYears (Gandahar), Starchaser Legend of Orin etc. but it was pure excellence.

But it had a mediocre/predictable story, sometimes the acting was bad too. The film also had bad pacing. And did not need to be 3 hours long. Even the dark knight was better then avatar. Dark knight had perfect pacing, a better story, and more interesting characters. That film made you go on the edge of you're seat eager to see what was gonna happen.

I've been looking forward this movie for years. I was fortunate enough to come across and read the synopsis (story outline) by James Cameron some ten years ago. However, I am somewhat disappointed by the CGI in this trailer.

My first thought when I saw this trailer was WTF? I starts out looking like a sci-fi film, then transitions to some kind of animated elven fantasy. I seriously doubt this is going to have the impact of Titanic. But I'll probably see it anyway.

@Snako85 Avatar draws heavily from the western genre, but this was all intended. Really no different from the way Star Wars, among other sci-fis have in the past. This is not a film that tries to advance the plot in ways we have never seen, but emersing us in a place we have never been before. Cameron wanted to tell a story he is obviously passionate about, and who should stop him? Oh and as for Dances With Wolves (great film) well.. it isn't original either.

The movie in IMAX 3D is a lot different than your computer screen. Plus the movie isn't done yet. The effect don't look great now, but I'm sure the film crew is working on it.

shouldn't that movie put all kinds of effect to the next level or something like that?(f.ex shouldn't we be abble to se what is animation and what's not??)
-I mean ,ok it looks very good but lets not exaggerate, just look at the robot at 0:17 -robots in matrix reloaded and revolutions were more realistic.(and thoes were maide in 2003)
or maybe is just me... :S

@Dc13PL what do you mean? there was barely any hype for it, before it came out i didn't see a single commercial for it on TV, just one in the movie theartures,and the only reason I heard about at all was because there was an article about it in a magazine about the special affects and how it took like 6 years to make.

My first thought when I saw this trailer was WTF? I starts out looking like a sci-fi film, then transitions to some kind of animated elven fantasy. I seriously doubt this is going to have the impact of Titanic. But I'll probably see it anyway.

@clutchcityrockets It was such a let down in these ways: 1- I expected it to be like the tv series, it wasn't 2- The movie was just Dances with Wolves but CGI 3-It was so overhyped that it made the movie worse than it was 4- It was just not good and if it won the Oscar than they should give Dances with Wolves another one 5-Im glad The Hurt Locker won.

@Snako85 Avatar draws heavily from the western genre, but this was all intended. Really no different from the way Star Wars, among other sci-fis have in the past. This is not a film that tries to advance the plot in ways we have never seen, but emersing us in a place we have never been before. Cameron wanted to tell a story he is obviously passionate about, and who should stop him? Oh and as for Dances With Wolves (great film) well.. it isn't original either.

If you and everyone else who hated Avatar got together you guys could all fit in a Mazda Miata! Transformers 2 was givin 1 star, Avatar received 4 stars! Transformers 2 made $500 million in the box office worldwide, Avatar made $2 Billion in the box office worldwide! I think its safe to say Avatar is a Great Movie!

The movie in IMAX 3D is a lot different than your computer screen. Plus the movie isn't done yet. The effect don't look great now, but I'm sure the film crew is working on it.

First of all its a trailer so the movie isn't 100 percent done. The effects aren't done yet. Second of all this movie is meant to be seen in IMAX 3D which is a lot different than your computer screen. This movie will have amazing effects.
