Project Dignity didn't give out shopping carts. They gave out roll-away trash cans with lids, so people wouldn't have their s--- stolen. A trash can doesn't have a wide base for leverage like a cart does.

Their spokesman at the time knew it wasn't a perfect solution, but better than nothing at all (which is what Rush proposes).

Project Dignity has a web site, so you can read all about what they did and are still doing today, instead of listening to this blowhard.

I have to agree, buying shopping carts for homeless people is like slapping them in the face.

Many years ago I was homeless very briefly, but it was enough to make me have real compassion for what it's all about. I don't see "compassion" as something a person affiliates with a political party, left or right. It's just something that you ARE.

The first step in helping homeless people is to get them a place to eat, clean up and sleep. Then it's about them becoming productive in society.
