It's a shame they never fire blanks that have enough energy for the recoil mechanism to operate along with the shell auto ejector that operates when the recoil damper returns after firing, throwing the empty shell out the breech.Oh well can't have it all! It's great to see an 88 being set up and firing!
@SaberTanker22 . I took the video but never even noticed a female there. There were certainly female Flak gunners during the world war2 in certain areas so I guess a female is not out of place there.
@Kahu1958 But it is so interesting to me i didn't notice to some time watching this amazing machine germans had. But i got to do some research on this part she just looks to modern way her uniform looks like British.
@Tronor123 No way, the 8/8 was constructed to have no ("Rückstoß") moving backward parts... so, what you´re thinking are the tubes above and under the barrel? for german beer? these are so called "luftvorholer" to minimize the backdraft...
@LamboK28992 although it does look authentic, I believe it is a fake. If you see the gun firing, there is no barrel recoil. To my knowledge all true 88mm guns had this characteristic blowback recoil with the barrel. In all the documentaries I have seen, I have seen no instance where a true 88 has no barrel recoil.
That is right, recoil is the reaction to the mass of the projectile being accelerated along the barrel. without the projectile there is very little recoil, just the blast from the powder charge which has very little mass.
The Half track is an OT0-810 converted, the Flak 88 is genuine. I was one of the loaders and also worked on the restoration. If you wish to ask further questions about the work I may help.
Duh, tought they shoot the sdkfz 251 with the 88'

@PCTechTalks . Your best bet would be looking at historic second world war footage in documentaries I guess.

Very nice work on the restoration, does the use of blanks fould the barrel more than an actual round?
HuasoPodrido 1 year ago
@HuasoPodrido . I guess it would but I am not directly involved with it. I just enjoyed their show and video taped it.

wow i was not aware it can be reloaded so fast.
MTotenkopf 1 year ago
@MTotenkopf . I understand a skilled gun crew could fire up to15 rounds per minute.
Kahu1958 1 year ago
@Kahu1958 Maybe even faster, due to it having semi-automatic capability (shelll ejecting, after firing).

Im sorry but this is lame without the real recoila and sounds it s just nothing special
fuggsakes 1 year ago
@fuggsakes . You are entitled to your opinion, but be realistic, your can not use real live ammunition at a public show. At least not in this country.
This is a restored very famous type of gun.

its is fake. when the 88 flak shot the barrel move back
Tronor123 1 year ago

This is at an Public airshow. Even though the guns is real they are not allowed to fire live rounds, only blanks.
Kahu1958 2 years ago
So with a blank, it would not have the recoil action where the barrel goes backwards after firing?
Goal10ding 2 years ago
That is right, recoil is the reaction to the mass of the projectile being accelerated along the barrel. without the projectile there is very little recoil, just the blast from the powder charge which has very little mass.

@Kahu1958 that's no fun :(, thanks for the info anyways, didn't know that...

No recoil = fake shell

@Goal10ding well i headed the restoration team, and I can assure you it was the real thing.
No barrel recoil as there is no projectile leaving the barrell

Now that is a sleek monster. I wonder how many tanks, armoured vehicles and aircraft where shot down by the 88..

I believe the Flak gun, and the Halftrack that towed it out are genuine WW2 items, restored. Firing blanks for the Show.
