  • i have to disagree, the artist is the way. he/she does not need to make a way or find a way.

  • @hmoobontherun That would depend on wether the Artist is a redundant copycat or a really creative person who produces original art. Like the people who pioneered new styles and ways of creating art. They had to find a way or make one since they didn't previously exist, not every artist is like that.

  • @Tyrfingr

the art is the artist and vice versa. when u dance u just dance, finding a way to dance sounds funny to me. we all creating art, but when money is involve then the artist looks for methods. thus he/she looks for a way to please people. needing people's approval makes one's art not original and that is the worse thing to lose your oneness.

  • @hmoobontherun An artist have to look for methods either way, if they are trying to create something that has not been done before you have to look for a way to do it. You must have heard the expression "a struggling artist" when describing a person trying to define their work. A dance is more of a phenomenon in how they came to be rather than a planned method, it's not really art either way. The people who dance professionally are called performers or entertainers.

  • @Tyrfingr

when people do art they are expressing, it has nothing to do with methods. how a dance came to be is not important to me, nothing personal. because how it came to be is missing the pt and that is the dance the moment when the dance is there. i only here to see dance regardless of the background. plus a dance doesn't need a resume, just dance. don't worry how well u dance, this is the highest art.

    dance without thinking about dancing

  • @hmoobontherun A specific dance style follows a rule system, whilst dancing freestyle is as you say to express oneself. The former is an art to master correctly precisely because it has rules and demands that they are followed. To create art with the intention of making it an art that will be valued and practiced & mastered demands a little more from a person than simply "going wild". What Bach or Beethoven did for the classical music, that was original and not just an expression.

  • @Tyrfingr

what you've explained is separating dancing into styles, this is for gaining profits i've mentioned that to u already. i will say this again the highest art does not have a system, it is spontaneous.

  • @hmoobontherun Dancing styles didn't emerge as an idea to make profit it ended up that way as with all things popular. The classical masters both in painting & music, almost all of them lived on the edge & died poor. You will find that every art of significance that they made came into being not spontaneously but through labor & industry. Da vinci didn't just spawn mona lisa out of nothing, he worked hard on it & developed the method of painting that existed during his day.

  • @Tyrfingr

da vinci is no great artist seriously, people are always exaggerating. by labeling his style of work great other artist work become less impressive. anyways to make money doesn't mean one is rich it's a matter of surviving so they can keep expressing themselves.

i don't believe in methods as it limit the creativity within its rules. truly expressing oneself there are no fixed rules to follow.

  • @hmoobontherun There are no rules to follow for expressing oneself i agree with that. Da vinci being no great artist, well i let each person have their own oppinions on that issue i feel no need to argue over subjectivity.

  • The most precise definition of art is in these words

  • Great post---We forget all the time the simple obvious fact that no matter how mighty and "real" the power structures and empires of the world, no matter how solid our lives and surroundings seem, every one of them and us fades away like a dream into a dream. So the artists, the dreamers are at last the only ones who can pass on what has passed away. What's left of Classical Greece? The dance, the statue, the architecture. What's left of Rome? Catullus' poems.... ANCIENT LIGHTS dot o-r-g

  • Adolf Hitler was a skilled artist. He wanted to make the world a better place.

  • Art is a physical expression of what the mind can access. Artists are those on the forefront of the journey of comprehension and expansion of self; in reality everyone is on this journey, some more so than others. It is up to these people to share their understanding and form co-creative bonds as to giude others. In saying artist, I refer to those with a greater perception of "the other", not a selected group with a adept creative capacity

This is my understanding of what terrence said atleast~

  • No pressure. lol

  • journeying into the other means?

  • @soulseeker300

What makes good art good art is things like creativity and originality etc.

What is the thing all of these characteristics have in common? The fact that they are/were NEW ways of expression, NEW styles, etc. When McKenna said "Journey into 'the other' " I think he is referring to this "newness" that is inherent in art. That which has never been painted/sculped/sung/danced/made/done before.

  • derp der derp

  • creativity is the answer here, & the understanding that it's within all of us, not just the artists. A perfect lesson to learn.

  • @symptomy we're all artists
