  • Ubuntu is so much better now, amazing that it was like this 2 years ago..

  • 24 peoples didn`t like`d woman reviewing.

  • i cant get it download stuff

it downloads but then it is just a file

    y and if i can..

    how do i fix it

  • i just bought mine 2 days ago....n how do u change the background.

  • @lab110 Do you still need to know how?

  • IS this netbook good to view my hd videos?

  • I bought a DELL expecting it to be American. What a joke! It's totally asian! My DVD CD died! They have a ATI which I had before and ATI is run by crooks and I cannot get drivers to work and ATI's programs are all over my laptop and I cannot delete it! After less than a year it's useless! Try to get it fixed. Good luck sucker!!! My personal opimiom of course!

  • no netbooks have a disk drive

  • yea the do just not mini notebooks

  • not to be mean but a netbook is a mini notebook

  • thats kinda gay right?

  • yea a lil but idk i like em

  • @linkooo5 no i know i like them too, I mean the name they gave it ...na nvm its a cool name ...bye

  • plenty of netbooks have a disk drive, but I prefer an SSD.

  • There's only one problem with that netbook. It's a total fingerprint magnet.

  • I Got This Laptop Last Week It's Crap Should Of Stuck To My Old Laptop :( Sending It Back!

  • does this have a cd/dvd drive?

  • nope but you can buy one which connects up via the usb port

  • netbooks dont have a cd/dvd drive u need a seperate cd drive for it

  • can i download google chrome on this?

  • on ubuntu you cant get google chrome right now, but if you have the windows version, thats no problem

  • but why would anyone want windows? and for that matter google chrome? they both suck and are money hungry assholes

  • I dont like the SSD with this it's only 8GB and winxp takes up 4/5

  • you can edit it and choose a regular 160GB harddrive roflol... or you could buy a harddrive and switch it for the one it has.. its what i did now my netbook has 1TB(936GB) of space.

  • How do i know which drive is supported by it thoe?

  • i can see by your response you arent very bright no offence thou. well to answer your question no matter what harddrive you buy its compatible with ALL computers. just some harddrives are better then others. i bought a hitachi 1TB harddrive for 80$ and it works great on the netbook so im guessing any harddrive will do.

  • Yeah thanks, i am bright but not with laptops n notebooks, and i mean what SSD cards fit into dell mini 9 laptops you can't just fit any in.

  • ehh im guessing here but id say a 16GB or a 32 on a mini9. id have to check that and get back to you.

  • Someone said dell were Based In America doesn't mean their made their most or all dell and components are made in taiwan and korea and assembled in china. You want cheap crap go for it Personaly But if You Buy Toshiba atleast your gonna get Quality Fully Japan made. True True.

  • im gettin dat

  • OMG! i want this laptop but in red:)

  • Haha. this is the same one i have except without the webcam.

  • 288th comment woot

  • it can handle crysis on very high...

  • rofl

  • just got this..with a 2 gig ram upgrade this is a solid netbook, built wise and performance. It can handle my dj software Traktor LE!!! I had the samsing nc10, lenovo s10, and hp mini. This is just well balancce all around size, weight, performance, and built.

  • Funny how its going to take apple to innovate the netbook. They are just happy with getting by until they have to compete with apple.

  • it is a shame that the new dell mini 10v is a downgrade of this mini 9

  • this chick is annoying to listen to. She sounds nervous and possibly not fluent in English.

  • @EpicPenguins

What the hell are you talking about

  • hottest?...HAHAH....this mini 9 is already disccontinue by Dell because it's so under par with specs for it's time. The only good thing about this mini 9 is that there's a 2 gig ram upgrade slot which they don't allow on their mini 10 which is really weird and a deal breaker to some people.

  • can you put itunes on this netbook?

  • yes. on any netbook you can since i have an hp mini 1035nr and it works fine. and so does halo. and almost nfsmw demo

  • hey, im looking at the hp 1035nr also, along with the samsung nc10. which of these do you prefer?

  • 1035nr 4 the WIN!!!

  • You can buty them in Australia for 299 With Windows XP Why are they more In Us Probably cause Asia dont like USA. LOL. Dell hates USA. Whingers. LOL.LOL. hahah.lol

  • 299 in australia??? u sure abt dat?? u mean 299 au $ ryt?

  • What does Asia not liking the US have to do with anything? Dell is based in Texas (that's the United States!!) if you didn't know. Wow, you're ignorant. And secondly, Asia doesn't even like each other -- have you ever heard of the rivalry between their nations: Japan, China, Korea, etc. They *all* don't like each other.

So "hahahaa" to you, for thinking (though failing at it).

  • Dell is Texas based you dumbass

    @Neephius

  • I have loaded Mac OSX Onto mine it double boots its awesome. Tatally do it. But just make sure you buy a legit copy of OSX everything works.

  • lol archos comes with 1 gb ram, 160 gb, so do many other mini laptops, this is a ripoff

  • llooool get aspire one more realable it gots 1.5gb ram and 160hd out of the box!

  • 160gb 5400 RPM drive... VERY slow.........

.5gb isnt much of a step up, and you can upgrade this dell to 2GB for an extra 17 dollars.

    @Lowl

  • Plus it has an SSD.

  • This is a really nice netbook.

    Acer's are seriously ugly.

  • bye the accer

  • bye?!

  • anyone able to tell me how to get a sound on a dell 1720, under one year old ? dell cant, dell aint intrested, unless i pay for it...

    the help

system in this computer has no answers, and dell hell they dont care, i paid them already

  • got a dell resources cd with your laptop?

put it in, load up, install the drivers and reboot

  • you need to google dell complaints befoplaints berore you even contenplate a dell purchase, consider being one of those who spend hard earned cash, to find out you 2 are on google complaining... check google dudes.... check google...dell complaints honestly guys

  • I have an Inspiron 8200. Its a 6 year+ model. Still working although the HDD is probably dying on me. But still working. As for customer service, no issue dealing with them. The few times I did they got back to me pretty quick. Not to mention delivery was really quick. Within 7 days. A friend had dead pixel on its laptop screen, Dell technician changed his screen the next day at his place. I'm from Asia Pacific. Maybe we get better customer service?

  • sweet laptop!! im stuck between the mini 9 & the S10.. i'd buy the linux version of the mini 9.. The Lenovo S10 can be purchased with SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop.. Though my plan would be to put openSUSE on either the mini 9 or S10 after I get one..

  • can you get vista and stuff for it? what about itunes?

  • notice you wont put my original comments up, beware of dell from hell and there Customer dont care department

  • crap

  • is it the same size as the hp 1000?

  • My friend has this laptop with ubuntu linux and I'm thinking about ordering the same too, glad this one does not have vista, which i want to get away from, He sure likes his! I just prepared a few thumb drives with pics and wma music files for the time when I order mine soon! This would be a perfect pc for internet, youtube & facebook! So now I can finally put the vista away and I been wanting to try ubuntu linux!

  • my goodness this women can't even say ubuntu correctly

  • Meh. Criticize and American for not being able to pronounce an African word.

*hands 'worst netbook of 2008' trophy to Dell*

  • what's so hard in saying "oo-boon-too"?

  • Do you hassle foreigners about the pronunciation of English words as well? There's nothing hard about saying Ubuntu if you know how it's pronounced, but it's not an English word, so you can't expect an English speaking person to be able to sound it out.

  • what's the best netbook of 2008?

  • Who freaken cares. Honestly.

  • Does it matter? No, it doesn't, welcome to YouTube.

  • i have a question does it have a cd disc slot thingy or not?

  • none of mini micro eeepc or this dell have cd rom,you can not use cd s

  • I order one last Thurs. for $169.00 through the Dell Outlet. It is refurbished but most of my electronics are and I never had a problem.

  • i ordered mine today, and it says it will arrive on APRIL 17TH?!!!! does anyone know, if it will REALLY take this long? i did standard shipping which is 3 to 5 business days,,.,,,

    ?

  • i would go with ubuntu because new versions are released every few months and its free. while windows xp is really getting old and outdated not to mention it's virus stricken!.

vista probly wouldent be good on this because it's to resource hungry and the idea of this is to keep power consumption to a minimum

  • ubuntu has been on a six month release cycle between April and November for quite some time

  • yep.

and i beleive once windows 7 is released and it fails like vista that will finally be the last nail in microsofts coffin .

as you can see big computer manufacturers are starting to include linux as an option .

but what would really kill windows off once and for all is if apple would just design their leopard o/s for pc's to work out of the box because lets face it no one wants to pay $1000+ for a mac when they can pay like $200 for a pc and put iatkos on it.

  • Yeeeeeah right LOL

  • You're full of shit. Windows is an AMAZING operating system which is still used in the majority of computers. Dumb bitch!

  • yea AMAZINGLY full of viruses and malware.

it's only used in the "majority" of computers because there are to many primitive people like you that are to narrow minded to bother exploring another o/s .

i bet you have never even used linux. not that it would matter your tiny brain wouldent be able to to use it anyway.

just stick to windows and spewing you ignorant verbal diarrhea on youtube about shit you know nothing about.

  • skil0837,

It doesn't take intelligence to use Linux. It takes a relatively good memory though, because apparently Linux users like all those pointless CLI commands more than just using a GUI. People give Linux too much slack just because it's free. There's a few thousand known viruses and exploits for Linux, it's not stable, it has application crashes all the time, and has a user base consisting of anti-social teens who think they're making a difference by not using Windows.

  • "it has application crashes all the time,"

You probably used Ubuntu, I noticed that Ubuntu applications crash a lot, at least compared to other distros. They just kind of "fade out" greyscale and stop responding. And the user base being made up of wannabe rebels is partially true, but that doesn't mean the community is any less friendly, it's certainly better than TheVistaForums...

  • TheVistaForums is full of idiots as far as I can tell, I've gone there a few times and all the threads are stupid and the responses I get are no help at all. But that doesn't make up everyone who uses Vista, only the people who have to go to the public forum and ask for help, which isn't everyone. Where as everyone who uses Ubuntu goes to their forums because it's the only one available and the only real source of information online about the os, where there's tons of sites about Vista...

  • "it dosen't take intelligence to use linux"

    -_-

it takes more intelligence to use than windows .

windows is all GUI you take a windows user and put him on a linux machine and they are lost without that little start button to lead the way.

also all administration privillages require sudo password unlike on a windows machine if you are logged in as admin you can do whatever you want so that combined with the trillions of windows viruses makes it the most unstable o/s ever!

  • You don't understand the concept of stability. You think having to enter a password to install a program is a good thing. Being harder to use isn't a plus, and just because it is GUI based doesn't make it easier to use, it just makes it more visual. I'd rather highlight a file and hit the delete key than run the command line "cd /Desktop, sudo rm -rf /example.exe", which is necessary is certain distros. Viruses are a nonexistent issue for Windows, I can't believe some people managed to get them.

  • urmm you can highlight and hit delete in ubuntu/debian.

you must not have used linux much either that or it was a bit to much for u to handle and it left a sour taste in your mouth.

i recommend you download the new intrepid live ubuntu cd and just give it a shot you might like it.

my favorite o/s happens to be osx leopard by the way.

linux is just something i like because it is very versitile and flexible . what isint great about a o/s than can run from a thumb drive?

  • I've really never found a reason to use Linux besides lower entry requirements. I boot Ubuntu 8.04 from a flash drive at my schools because the computers are really slow, but other than that I don't see any advantages to it in terms of the alleged security or stability the Unix/Linux cores all claim to have. I've had more stability problems with Linux than Windows, specifically with programs randomly quitting, I notice that's more of a problem specific to Ubuntu though...

  • well there are various reasons one might want to use a linux based distro .

i understand that most people would not consider it a replacement o/s but i beleive thats onlt because the computer world is basically designed with windows in mind.i.e. games, exe apps, etc etc.

i however beleive you are wrong about its security.because most hackers know the majority of people they want to hack are running windows so thats about all they bother to program viruses for.

  • Linux is amazing, but personally I like Mac OSX. Ubuntu is the next best choice, unless you are going for gaming. I think XP or vista is best for gaming.

  • piss off

  • omg i cant wait till i get mine now!!! im even more excited knowing that its great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • me 2 i have done some research and this is gonna be my next unit.

im getting the mini9 in alpine white with ubuntu 8.04 and 1 gb ram and 16gb ssd.

i bet this thing could run all day long on battery power with that nice little ssd

  • im thinking about buying a minilaptop how much are they?

  • they range from $300 - $500 CDN.

  • $300 to $500. if you're really really tight on the budget, there's a cheap netbook for only $99 called Jointech JL7..something. I don't recommend the Jointech because it has the guts of a PDA, 64 mb HDD, and 64 MB ram

  • oh there is no money problem i already have a nice comp but i want a laptop that is easy to carry with me to school, and a laptop that is durable and wont damage easily.

  • The Dell has no moving parts, so it is pretty tough.

  • U can put Mac OS X on it!

  • are you serious?! how!!

  • It's well documented on the web. Do a google search for 'run leopard on a dell mini 9'. One thing, you should probably get a runcore 32GB or more SSD, since MacOSX takes up like 16GB.

  • I ordered mine last week - I CAN'T WAIT TO GET MY HANDS ON IT!!!

  • Me too!!!! hahahhah xD Im watching all videos... =D I hope this can help me a lot in classroom and little games in time that Im not studing xD ahhahaha

  • I ordered mine last week - I CAN'T WAIT TO GET MY HANDS ON IT!!!

  • guys, ubuntu comes with open office, which is an open source alternative to microsoft word. for the basic user, it is the same thing. (its actually more familiar to use than office 2007)

  • what does the lynx do please answer

  • So, can Ubuntu be compatible with Word or will you have to get a pc with windows?

  • It has open office, pretty much the same as Office but free.

  • can anybody help me... does the mini 9 come with a notepad or something that u can type a paper on that u can print like a wordpad or a notepad if so please comment back thx....

  • depends on the version you get what software you'll have, but there will definitely be a "something" that can type papers

  • open office writer, and for a notepad like app, try gedit (TextEdit)

  • I have this computer. But i want to be able to download Windows Movie Maker! Please make a video or respond telling me how!

  • are you using windows or ubuntu, if you are using windows i can send you a link, if you are using ubuntu i can send you instructions on how to download a video editor for ubuntu.

  • I am using ubunti. thanks soo much!

  • nice laptop, irritating voice

  • would world of warcraft work good on it?

  • no way this laptop is strictly internet browsing and documents and other small apps.

  • do you know if there is any other mini laptop that includes a cd/dvd player for a reletively cheap price? i have been saving up for one to take to college.

    Thanks,

    Ashh

  • that'happen when you try to say something that is not in your lenguaje

  • can someone just please tell me if the webcam is good? (for talking to friends NOT some weird sex job)

  • embedding disabled??? wtf. just trying to share on facebook... 1 Star for that bullsheet.

  • bullsheet????

  • Need to hurry up and get that speedy Chrome browser out for linux... this thing would be SET without the (somewhat) sluggish Firefox.

  • One thing you could do in Firefox is hit F11 to maximize the window. It looks like that would increase the viewing area of web pages by about 25%.

  • I got mac osx running on mine its kinda slow but I still like it

  • its linux. you can put whatever the heck you want on it. thousands upon thousands of installable addons, right from the repository. plus, all free.

  • Regardless, this is a very efficient system if you simply need for projects that require visual aids(powerpoints), writing documents, and maybe even storing a little music. However, I don't think there is a cd/dvd drive which kind of dampens my excitement. If this could serve as a mini dvd player, I'd be much happier.

  • how big is ur freakin purse

  • ITS A NETBOOK .

  • "awbahntu"? It's pronounced "U-boon-too"

  • omg i hate when people say it wrong too!

  • Yeah, especially when people who pretend they know crap!

  • Aw! It's so cute!

  • Why I can't find it on Taiwan DELL Wedsite?

  • Dunno maybe Dell doesn't like other languages than english or whatever

  • can you guys pplease do a review on the DELL Inspiron 1525!??!?!?

  • can u download windows live messenger on this mini 9?

  • If you're running Ubuntu, you'd be using Pidgin. Which does support MSN yes.

  • how is amilo mini? it can design cover by urself

  • mine is a ubuntu but i am tring to download msn and all you can do is save it please help me i have no clue on what im doin lol

  • You use Pidgin

  • can you get itunes on these things?

  • mizt3rman,

You can load all the games you want.

Just use the synaptic repository and load all the open source game that you want and more.

You can even make a backup of your Dell with Ubuntu by using Remastersys

  • pcdoctor01,

does this mean that the netbook doesnt come with the games, but you must get them off of like a website especially for the dell netbook, like what apple does for macs[widgets]?

  • can it hold iso/cso files

  • please answer me back should i get Dell Inspiron Mini 9 or the acer aspire one plz comment back

  • if i had to choose between those two, i'd go with the dell. I think you should also check out the asus eee pc 1000ha, thats what im gtting.

  • get the dell, the a lot of people seem to like the acer more, but they seem like a weird brand, they seem kind of unknown and cheap, dell looks like they at least made it out of thick plastic lol

  • I have one of these! It's white on the front with no camera. Too bad I have to wait till Christmas to play with it! Dam! Hurry up Christmas!

  • So I just got my mini9. It has bluetooth and I would like to use my 50 inch lcd tv in my livingroom as a monitor as I sit on my couch surfing the web. Can I do this wirelessly without a patchcord??? If so, what do I need to do???

  • wireless vga system. about 100 bucks

  • OO-bun-TOO, Uh bun-TOO, OO-BOON-TOO, which is it?

  • It is pronounced "oo-BOON-too" (from Ubuntu's own documentation)

  • should I get this? I wonder if you could vid chat on aim with it? cuz I know with ubuntu the only client you could do that with is skype but not through pidgin =(

  • there is a version with xp, it is 100$ more though, for another small fee you could get a intergrated webcam.

  • there are hundreds of programs on linux that have video chat

  • Dell just had to give this the worst netbook keyboard ever...

  • This keyboard is driving me nuts. Unlike many bloggers and messenger/texters out there, I actually use my function keys and my apostrophe/quotes. The function keys now only work with the Fn key pushed (which I'm getting kinda used to) but the apostrophe key is way down by the spacebar. Strongly thinking about changing this out for a mini 12 which has a regular keyboard.

  • Just re-map the keys....

  • I hope you didn't but this to type essays.

  • You don't really buy any netbook to type essays but it doesn't matter. Dell didn't do anything to set this apart from any other netbooks, the only difference between this and it's competitors is that it's really glossy and has a shit keyboard. People are just freaking out and worshiping it because Dell made it, and because it looks cool. With the Samsung NC10, Aspire One and HP Mini 1000 all on the market, there's really no reason to waste your money on the mini 9.

  • i have a dell inspiron 530 and its awesome

  • i do to......it rules

  • this laptop is now for $99 if you buy inspiron 1525($799), great deal or not?

  • DEAL!!!!!!! lol

  • RU still b
