Jonroks. fyi there are many guitarists who have adopted this way of playing. Mr Fix just happens to be one of the very best practitioners of this genre, anywhere in the world. Don't think that Tommy Emmanuel owns this method. In fact Tommy adopted the style from Chet Atkins. Players borrow the guts of the style then hope to infuse the music with their own personalities. If you are familiar with the players you will know that Fix has a different sound and interpretation to Emmanuel.
Holy flying fingers... another great guitarist, Adam Rafferty, turned me on to this fella... thought it was gonna be another cover of the Tommy Emmanuel Beatles Medley -- but man, this is off the hook! Mr. Fix-it, my hat is off to you, and kudos from the birthplace of fingerstyle guitar, Western KY! This remarkable video is now posted on the Acoustic Virtuosity Archives, THE compilation of great fingerstyle acoustic music on YouTube (click: bigdood - playlist - FIVE STAR YouTube Artists).
I partly agree with syncopater999's comment about Tommy E. going over the top (just as Gordon Giltrap does with his 'rippling' effect), although TE's 'Initiation' album is brilliant. However, Michael Fix is mesmeric: Wonderful playing and an absolute revelation for anyone aiming to play acoustic guitar fingerstyle. If you haven't watched the 'Pipeline' movie on Youtube, have a look.

my mistake. the 'beep beep yeah' part of drive my car sounds a lot like twist and shout. I blame the beer I must've been drinking for my mistake

Can I hurt him for fret buzzing , or at least give him a lecture about it.
other than that , I wanna give him that lecture about paul mcCartney being the biggest jerk in the universe. his music is dead.
and the lecture about george harrison being the superior beatle.
I can at least say if he likes it then nobody can really put him down.
azkeyz 3 years ago
The fret buzzing was on purpose.
