I remember when Rios shot through the ranks, 1994 ish. He was a clay court specialist, good on hardcourts but hated grass. Why? Extreme western forehand, is hard to dig out them shots that stay low, like on grass. Rios hated wimbeldon and was a first round loser many times. And he was a whiner. He could be top 20 nowdays easy. Mens tennis isnt any better than in the 90's. Just as many big hitters back then. Sampras, Becker, Rafter, Agassi, would be top 10 easy.
Punto y final
Hey, anybody knows wot happened to Kafelnikov? I dont remembered him retiring. Last time I saw him was around '97 that was it. Woot is he up to these days? thanks.
He retired in 2004. Correct me if I'm wrong but I read from somewhere that he's coaching Safin. Not long ago he played in the Blackrock senior tour....and lost all his matches :(

Rios is not the best, but he's the most talented player ever. dont lie anymore, please. Nadal is very rough, only a great warrior, Roger is much much better, he's the best of the history.
Marcelo at his peek would be about 3 in the world right now. Rafa, Federer would beat him. The rest could win, but not consistently. Rios's problem was not he lacked consistency in the game. He wasn't as talented as Rafa or Federer.
Marcelo in good health would be a top five player today. Let's not forget that in 2007, he defeated both Gonzo and Massu and neither of these guys is chopped liver. Marcelo had a winning record against Andre and Courier but he did have some trouble with the big bangers like Sampras and Safin. My guess is that he would have some trouble with Rafa, who is a bigger and stronger version of Marcelo but Marcel would definitely be top ten.
Rios is one of the most talented players ever, can you not see the angles he creates from nowhere. his problem isn't talent, its his motivation to win and he had alot of injuries throughout his career.
@ZurdoMagico Even if you say Rios had more natural talent than Federer, he definitely didn't have the champion's attitude. He would never have made the kinds of records Federer did if he was in today's era and without injury
Marcelo was such a freaky player, If only he had won a grandslam, so much talent... too bad for the injuries he could beat anyone in the top 100 today except the guys who are ranked 1 and 2
That's bullshit, he could beat anyone anytime, and he lost a Grand Slam final against a fucking drug addict, everybody knows that but nobody says anything.
Calm down man, i didnt say anything bad about marcelo did I? Far out. I just said that I dont think hed beat Nadal and Federer today, hes wat? 30 years old? In his prime he relied on speed/court coverage as well as touch to beat his opponents. And im not sure how he would hold up to Rafa's vicious topsin especially on clay. Yeh I know Korda was a druggie, that doesnt change that Marcelo doesnt have a GS to his name and I was suppourting that he should have one to match his talents.
the point is, the GS final Rios played against somebody who was on dope at exactly that moment. In every other sports and according to legal procedure, the title of Korda would have been passed over to him. But well...

No way was Kafelnikov much of an underachiever.

I agree with Rios as being an underachiever but no way was Kafelnikov one - in fact he won more than he should have.
