  • It's like they took the crows from Dumbo and asked themselves "How can we make this even more stereotypical?"

Say whatever you want, it's better than the Kinder Surprise ads!

  • Am....am I high?

  • I remember this advert. I loved it. It was super cool.

Perhaps it has some stereo-typical imagery, but as a kid at the time, this advert just seemed awesome. If anything it helped a white kid like me see how fashionable a pork-pie hat was & how steel drum had such a great sound.

I dont see how this advert can be negative, it has such a party atmosphere & just good times!

  • If this wasn't in color, I would've assumed it was made in the 50s.

  • Stereotype - A popular belief about specific types of individuals.

Racism - The belief that inherent different traits in human racial groups justify discrimination.

This isn't racist this is just stereotypical... nowhere in the advert did they discriminate...

  • now if it was watermelon juice it would be a completely different story

  • I will be your dog

  • i will be your dog

  • acid much?

  • What a great advert, everyone loved this when I was a kid. Think it came out about 1985 and I saved the promo tokens and sent off for the pencil case with all the characters on.

  • The birds all remind me of mobsters...I'm surprised no one else sees that.

  • It's a fucking cartoon... it was the 70s... and to top this whole thing off I'm pretty sure the Human character was requested by whoever asked him to do this animation. You can tell how much love he put into the bird characters. And if you're seeing "racist" propaganda in the birds then maybe you need to question yourself.

  • this was made in the 1980s. There is no fucking excuse.

  • fucking LOL

  • This isn't offensive at all....Wtf?

  • I think there's a difference between "Racist" and "Painfully stereotypical".

Still, this advertisement makes me go "What the hell?"

  • What the eff did I just watch?

  • @MyScorpion42 Did you see it too? I though for a second I might have been hallucinating!

  • @doobiesmoke15 Your username fits so well with that comment

  • When they do that stupid jump thing with their feet, it looks like they'd tripped on something.

  • They're birds!! How is the little black kid at the front any way offensive? Lighten up and stop actively looking for reasons to be offended!

  • Hows this for a slice of fried gold?

  • chuck jones made this.

  • I sniggered so loud when I watched this. But I can fully understand how these things niggle some people.

  • My dad says i walk like the one at 0:21 the "knuckle dragger" as he puts it ....Cheers you git

  • I am from Hispanic origins and never found Speedy Gonzalez racist or stereotypical. Am I an idiot?....Is Mr Magoo offensive to blind people?....John Hubley, his creator told me that Magoo was a conservative who could only see what he wanted to see...Should conservatives feel offended? Was Mickey Mouse offensive to mice or Donald to ducks?...Aesop, the great fables storyteller was a black slave who used always stereotyical characters to make a point...Was he objectionable?

  • @Garramedia very well said

  • @Garramedia

Dude, I get your sentiment, I really do. But you are way off base with the Aesop thing. Aesop was a greek. a WHITE Greek, and never at any time was he a "black slave" as you say. Sorry. I agree with what you were saying, but you are wrong about Aesop.

  • old skool.

wheres butterkist butterkist ra ra ra or hey crusader have you any nuts?

  • Il be your dog, woof woof woof xD omg

  • we all adore

    WATERMELON

  • @PietPassword Also please spend a few moments to educate yourself on privilege (here is a very simple, short, non-threatening read: brown-betty. livejournal. com/ 305643. html ) Maaaybe you want to check the definition of fascism, too, but whatever. If you give a glance to the first link, it's already a step in the right direction.

  • @PietPassword Wow, the fascist strawman! Man! I'm totally threatening you up with Totalitarianism and eugenics and shit and not pointing certain people to stop being privileged assholes and SHUT UP AND LISTEN TO THE FUCKING PEOPLE THAT DO SUFFER FROM DISCRIMINATION WHEN THEY TELL YOU SOMETHING IS OFFENSIVE AGAINST THEM and not go "wah wah *I* don't see why this is offensive therefore it isn't now shut up". Ever noticed every time a minority opens their mouth there's assholes silencing them?

  • Fair enough but it aint one bit racist.

  • All the stereotypes are present. This is actually impressive in a way.

  • OK its a bit iffy but nothing to send the world on fire. Some people really need to lighten up and before I get accused of being a racist white person ..I'm not white.

What a miserable world we live in when people spend all day looking for things to moan about and to pull out the PC card.

However some of the replies on here seem to suggest certain parts of the world are still stuck in the 50s and need to get with modern times. Calling people offesnive names makes you a moron.

  • This was funny as hell, and was probably one of if not the most stereotypical-towards-African advertisements I have ever seen in my life. And that fucking rocks.

  • It may not be racist but it certainly is stereotypical, lmao if you can't see that you're not watching the commercial..pretty funny though..i can also see why it may upset people (black)

  • I loved this advert when I was in my teens and still do but did never thought about it could been derogatory or anything else but looking more closer I can see why some would get offended.

  • ill be your dog. WTF??

  • Stereotypes are not automatically negative or derogatory. They can be used negatively, i.e. to incite hatred (racism), but that certainly isn't happening here.

People should remember that accusations of racism incite hatred too and are therefore just as bad.

  • It's hard to argue this isn't racist. Especially considering the basketball stereotype and the lady has a bag of laundry on her head. This is clearly a statement of class, suggesting that African Americans are only seen when carrying laundry, playing basketball, or a jazz musician. Stereotypes that exist due to hardcore oppression that made sure African Americans were given no other opportunities, at least in the USA.

Children cartoons are great examples of what's really going on in cultures

  • @DancingInMyRoom I think its a good example of casual racism (through stereotyping) but not hatred. As a UK resident I can understand why they were using these stereotypes to sell a drink. Its grey and cold here.

weird thing is, 'Kia Ora' is a Maori expression used in New Zealand as a greeting. In this ad, the black kid has a broad american accent, the pimp looking guy sounds like he's from New Jersey and the skinny tall black guy sounds almost Jamaican - yet the ad is for a UK soft drink..!

  • @dirtyscrotumpuncher. Fuck you you inbred piece of shit i hope you die of aids but not before you have a daughter that gets fucked by the blackest dick in the world, fag

  • Were the people who commissioned this on crack? Bizarre advert...

  • @richievegas01 its seriously nuts. I'd love to know who made it.

  • I never considered this to be racist, but i guess i was only 7 or so

  • Comment removed

  • WOW, I just found the old Kiaora Pear and Blackcurrent advert on Youtube. Features a 'proper' black kid in it this time. but the song isn't as good :(

  • @dirtyscrotumpuncher lol. God bless you

  • The ad contains racial stereotyping. This is technically not racism, which claims that one race is superior to others, but it is offensive in its stereotyping and, for that same reason, harmful to society.

  • I used to love this ad as a kid, it kinda reminded me of the old Betty Boop cartoons. At the time, I was rather clueless to the concept of racial stereotypes. Looking at as an adult, I can see how some people could consider this offensive.

  • Yessuh Boss!

  • how the fuck is this racist lol

  • Man, what was I smoking when I clicked on this video?

  • how the fuck did transformers sent me here?

  • Well this CRACKED me up.

  • This is the most racist use of crows since Dumbo....

  • @MrKennybass The crows in Dumbo technically weren't racist, considering the time Dumbo was created (1941), considering black people were generally uneducated back in that time, and that was how the majority of black people acted at that time.As making them crows, it WAS a children's movie.

  • Wtf??Why are they barking?

  • I just want to call ya..Say kia ora

  • in my opinion this advert is not racist! so everyone stop causing arguments, every video I look on now there's an argument!

  • how is it racist? cus some crows are acting like black people? how is acting like a black person racist? they're fucking crows... i can't believe how often the race card is played... keep doing it, eventually no one will give a fuck. It's subjective, and stereotypical doesn't necessarily imply racism. Get over ya selves seriously it aint the 30's anymore

  • @derekclive35 it becomes racist when people start saying "Acting like a black person"

  • @supersentiger don't be ridiculous. Imitating someone or something doesn't make it racist. Unless of course it's offensive, but then again that's another difficult line as that too is subjective, I think everyone needs to relax about this sorta thing, white people don't moan about racism all the time, infact neither do most races.

  • @supersentiger exactly

  • @derekclive35 it's playing on black stereotypes so yeah it is racist. it has a freaking Mammy in it for Christ's sake!

  • @Hazy992 yeah but she isn't doing any jazz hands ha, i joke i joke, i kid i kid. I don't think it's racist, except that basketball player, he makes me a little uncomfortable

  • @derekclive35 i dunno man, it all seems quite offensive to me

  • @derekclive35 LOL Dude you kind of already fucked yourself with the statement "cus some crows are acting like black people?"

  • @Girtaco100 fucked myself? you seem to be making out i've said something i should regret? you don't even know if i'm racist or not. If i was then nothing i could say could fuck me over. And yes, some crows ARE acting like black people... big fuckin deal

  • @Girtaco100 fuckin black people mock black people by acting like black people! It's not like this video portrays these crows dancing around fires with spears or picking cotton ffs

  • @75egcg The UK has had several massive waves of black immigration and has had black people present in it's society for over 600 years. There has also never, EVER, been racial segregation in any of the nations of the UK. America however, is still one of the most racist countries in the developed world.

  • Oh dear. Its a good job this advert isn't seen any more due its offensive nature. While we're at it, lets ban the Mars advert with monks bell ringing - its offensive to infer they only seem to get interesting and have fun when they listen to House of Pain...

  • Bought kia ora the other day for nostalgia's sake and was so disappointed. It no longer tastes fruity, but like powdered water. Absolutely gross. Does anyone else feel the same ?

  • Message to all my fellow non-POC turdfaces: we are NOT a segregated group and as such have no idea what it is for POCs. If you have a privilege (being born white, higher than lower class, sexually normative...) it is not your fucking business to question an actual unprivileged person when they say something is offensive against them. They know. You, entitled assholes, do NOT know. Learn to shut your mouth and listen to minorities for once, for God/Shiva/Allah/FlyingSpaghettiMonster's sake!

  • This was shown in the 80s - astonishingly...

  • Paul & Linda McCartney - Seaside Woman

    Look it up /watch?v=4jWlpU4bGhw

  • Every time I get Kia-Ora I still sing this.

  • my mate used to drink a glass or kia ora neat then ride his bike as fast as he possibly up and down our street for hours on end, no wonder this substance was banned

  • Guess this wouldn't be shown nowadays cos of the stereotype Pickaninny boy

  • I like the squeaky wormy thing....

  • It's kind of ironic how the black character doesn't fill a black stereotype while people seem to think that the crows do and that it's racist... But crows aren't black people! If a black person complained that the crows are portraying a stereotype of them, it only shows that they acknowledge the stereotype. I don't see how you can find a stereotype offensive when it's portrayed in characters who don't fill the stereotype.

  • lol i like it

  • I think the only people who would find this racist are white.

  • its not racist really, just the fat black woman and the fact they're crows(jim crow laws). but its just a joke. black ppl take things too seriously. (i am black before you have a go)

  • Cor, look at all this hoo-ha. Nobody gave a monkeys back in '84-'85 when this was made. *rolls eyes*

  • It's very of its time and I loved seeing it again. In the same era, The Old Grey Whistle Test with Whispering Bob Harris frequently featured interminable prog. rock numbers accompanied by vintage cartoons that looked like this but in monochrome. The paradox is that Kia Ora is a New Zealand Maori greeting but this ad. seems to suggest the Caribbean.

  • Yo! I'll be yo mutha fuckin' dawg bitch!

  • When I read Matthew 15:22-28 in the New Testament it reminds me of this advert. Jesus Christ wanted nothing to do with the Canaanite woman because she wasn't a Jew, and he called her a dog. So she said, "I'll be your dog!" :D

  • It's a shame this advert has been tarnished with the racism brush. This is one of the adverts I remember and loved as a kid. I just noticed that they were cartoon animals and that's it really, there was no racist implications whatsoever when I was a child.

  • What a racist commercial. O.O

  • @AirCooledMan2006 Why is it racist? I knew some one would type that shit on this advert. What a steamin great pile of shit. Theres nothin racist about it. Its the best advert ever made.

  • @MOONST0MP You've got crows dressed as black stereotypes and the little boy isn't far off from the blackface caricatures of old. It's racist. Prove me the fuck wrong!

The guys who made that commercial might as well have walked around in KKK robes.

  • @AirCooledMan2006 What the fuck are you talkin about? Its an advert, a cartoon!! Is Daffy Duck racist too? How the fuck can such a colourful feelgood advert be racist? Racist in what way?? Its a fuckin kids cartoon!

  • @MOONST0MP ARE YOU FUCKING BLIND? They're crows dressed as black stereotypes! How the fuck can you not see how that's racist? Are you stupid? If you are, please do the world a favor and go hang yourself.

  • @AirCooledMan2006 You fuckin wanker. I'm black myself and I dont find this advert racist one bit. People like you who cry 'racist' any chance you get make me fuckin puke. You go hang yourself you fuckin waste of space!!!

  • @MOONST0MP It's got a stereotypical "picaninny" boy and a bunch of crows dressed as black sterotypes. How are you going to say that's not racist? You and I must not be looking at the same fucking commercial.

The asshats who made that cartoon might as well have had a white performer in blackface dancing around, which is just as bad. Or have even shouted the N-word.

  • @AirCooledMan2006 So! what if it was a white boy with crows dressed as white people and the back ground music was somthin very British like The Beatles or somthin? Would that be racist towards white people? The crows are dressed as black people because it is playin reggae . Fuckin hell. You are the type of person what says you should call a Black board a chaulk board because callin it a white board is racist. If everyone thought like you people wouldnt be able to have a conversation at all.

  • @MOONST0MP They might as well have had a white blackface minstrel in that commercial!

  • @AirCooledMan2006 get a life!

  • @AirCooledMan2006 cheer up it's all in good light :)

  • thumbs up

  • @MOONST0MP ah come on now it is a bit racist

  • @Niggerachi1101 Oh, I aint going over all this again !!! I'm sick of hearin people sayin such a cool advert is racist. If it is racist, then its racist against white people for being so good and none of the charachters represent white people !!. Therefore it must be sayin black people are cool and white people aint.

  • @MOONST0MP ok it is a funny ad but its funny cuse its stereotypical :) hows that for a comprimise

  • @MOONST0MP How is this not just a little bit racist?

  • @BearWindAppleyard I dont belive this!! ... go on? why? what is racist about it???

  • @MOONST0MP I guess because it's full of black steriotypes. I admit it may not be the worst kind of racism, it's not directly degrading, but still. It's a bit like old cartoons with black people with big red lips and big noses, it might not be meanspirited but it is a bit racist. Idk...

  • @MOONST0MP Easy to say you're black on the internet.

Anyway, I'm white and this is racist as fuck. Stereotypes everywhere. I'm not offended, shocked but it's just so cheesy it made me laugh. It's hillarious. But still kinda sad.

  • @BearsOfWar1337 How is it racist??? Please point it out to me!

  • @MOONST0MP Sorry to bother you mate, but have you seen my bike?

  • @MOONST0MP

Holy shit, what a massive overreaction. You need to get some medication or something you fucking nut.

  • @MrThisplaceisweird Fuck off you prick.

  • @MOONST0MP

No. Fuck you, you are a broken human being.

  • Love the barking dogs "I'll be your dog" lol

  • @misterlaufeyson: Unity isn't a bad thing, it's when the unity moral (or any moral, really) has about the subtlety of a falling anvil that I don't like.

  • surreal and fun...can we have the sun back when youve finished playing with it... luv the sycnro mid air shuffle they do walking along. too orangey for crows, lol.

  • was this 83 or 85??

  • HOLY SHIT! Aussie tries to steal Pavlova, Phar Lap, hell they even tried to steal Sonny Bill Williams!, but now they've stolen the Maori word for Healthy!? In fact, in 1890 they tried to steal the Maori Race and make them Australians! lol

  • Remind me again how this is racist? "It's a depiction of different nationalities not presented in a way that shoves unity down our throats 24/7! HIDE THE CHILDREN!"

  • @TheNinjaOfLove108 Except that real people aren't like this at all.

  • @TheNinjaOfLove108 what kind of sociopath do you have to be to consider unity a bad thing?

  • Comment removed

  • I am positive someone copied those characters of Dumbo lol.

  • LOL STEALING A PIANO

  • lol at the comments. I remember watching this as a kid and I didn't even link the characters to blacks at the time (I can say 'blacks' right?) let alone think about racism. To me it was just an advert. Political Correctness has gone crazy. The slightest little thing linked to race and all hell breaks loose whilst we have a situation where blacks are killing blacks almost weekly here in London yet nothing is said for reasons of sensitivity?

People need to sort their priorities out.

  • Looking at this advert now (as an adult) it does make me cringe lol but that's because of what we have become. A politically correct society where people take offence to the smallest thing.

  • This ad is generally creepy even without the racism.

  • it's got SOD all to do with race, next you'll be saying OJ didn't slaughter his wife

  • @Cplusg18 get a grip you pussy

  • Dumbo was racist too. Deal with it.

  • I'm black and I can't believe I used to love this advert and my parents didn't have a problem with it. There is no way I would watch this advert now and my parents would rightly write/phone and complain. Almost every black racial stereotype under the sun. I feel sad that it reminds me of my childhood and it was racist.

  • @tazzy27581 You have to realize that this advert is from the UK. They have about 7 black people in all of europe, so yeah they're extremely racist. Think of white people who are racist toward black people in the US, now take away the natural integration of white and black people the US has, multiply the racists, and you have europe. Don't believe me? go around youtube, yahoo answers, or just google what euros think of americans, yikes

  • @75egcg youtube, yahoo answers and google > getting a passport?

  • @bowen192 i figure since europeans judge every last american by movies and xbox live. You know, in lieu of using their vast quantities of holidays to actually vacation in the states

  • @75egcg It seems that we can add 'youtube comments' to films and xbox LIVE, as places to meet thick, self-obsessed, irony-free Yank cunts.

  • @bowen192 Yeah, anything you albino honkies from the cracker mother land can think of as an excuse to belittled the fuck out of us. Get off your high horse and get out of the house a bit. You'll see that europe isn't the only place on earth. I'm sick of being belittled by you fucks who think we should worship you. go drink tea and play 'football' you troll

  • @bowen192 Thick Yank cunts FTW!

  • @75egcg

erm, the UK has tonnes of black people and has been integrated for years - longer than the US in fact

and besides, the audience was kids, to us it was a funny advert with barking crows.

  • @delriogw sure, the audience was to kids, i'm just saying that europe had a different history in contemporary than the US which is filled with european imperialists at the time, and everyone who is anyone needed free labor to work on their farms. That is, if they were rich enough

  • @tazzy27581 fag, it's a fucking cartoon, get a grip, always playing the fucking race card huh?

  • Oh my, I think this completed my childhood. :-)

  • My favorite one is the basketball crow ahaha

  • why always BLACK people get the michael taken out of them? "WHY CROW, WHY?"

  • @aksesq my mummy says cz they look and talk funny.

  • @aksesq Don't be so sensetive. For goodness sakes its a bird not a black person.

  • What... the fuck!

  • Still makes me laugh. Anyone who can't laugh at this seriously needs to get over themselves.

  • @MrFivefivefivesix I'm black & admit this is kinda racist, but It is funny!

  • @qubicles Yeah, it is pretty racist by today's standards, but back then (what was it, the 90's?) we still had Tom And Jerry cartoons and Dumbo from Disney who were pretty much doing the same thing. Dumbo had the crows and Tom And Jerry had that New Orleans accented woman who you could only see her legs. I'm not excusing racism of any kind, I'm just saying that of all the things you could be upset about, this kind of thing ranks pretty low. So just laugh about it.

  • @qubicles how is it racist ?

  • holy shit

  • Watched this 10 times in a row now. Replayed the first 20 seconds 20 times.

    0_0 this music is hypnotizing.

Now I find you can keep pressing 1, to make your own beat. This advert has got me hooked now. If only there weren't negative overtones to it......

  • I remember this advert. Seriously, that music is funky. I love the way they 'dance' in time to the music. The animation and music go together so perfectly.

Too un PC for today, but they need to release that music as an album! Failing that, bring the advert back, just change everyone into apples or something!

  • retarded

  • They should have hired Iggy Pop, he'd be your dog.

As for the nigger and pakie stuff, fuck it, i'm a paddy.

  • Oh dear...

  • in order for something to be racist it needs to but a certain race in a bad light. how do these stereotypes portray black people in a bad way?

there is nothing wrong with racial but not racist stereotypes...

  • @margos06 it isn't whether the stereotypes characterise black people in a bad way or not (I mean, watermelon and fried chicken are delicious, right?) it's the act of stereotyping alone that's offensive. Simplifying a race to a bunch of caricatures is racist. The difference between "racial" and "racist" stereotypes as you call it, is whether you, personally, view the stereotype as positive or negative. Hint: there is no difference.

  • @yellowfolder

Depends on whether or not you actually take the damn advert seriously or not. At the time this advert was on, idiots like you weren't posting bleeding messages on youtube complaining about it. No one complained it's just a kids advert. You are taking the enjoyment and innocence out of life. That's wrong. Actually, this would be stereotyping the Jamaican race. I can't help it if Jamaicans talk in a certain way. I'm scouse and don't mind being stereotyped. Laugh at it.

  • @1Thompsonmusic No-one's stopping you laughing at your nigger and paki jokes, you can continue to do that. However, if you post a video of it on youtube, it's subject to a comments section that allows people to express all sorts of opinions that might not match yours. I don't take the advert seriously, but if I see someone's opinion and I think it's misinformed, I don't mind giving mine, just like you, very seriously it seems, gave yours.

  • i came to this video because of the show SPACED

  • Was this animated by Richard Williams?

  • I still don't get why being 'too orangey for crows' is a selling point. Mind you it was the 80s. Never question the 80s.

  • Kia-ora

  • niggers love orange juice

  • thats bad. The 1980s really

  • fucking disturbing.

  • @scarlettestr This advert just made me more racist !!!

  • It's obviously stereotypical of Negroes. So what! Comedy is based on stereotypes. Be adult enough to enjoy it has a light-hearted poke at Negroes.

  • @joegroup1 I'm sorry I feel the need to educate the racially ignorant. It is either Black/African American now. It isn't the 50s.

  • @BlaqRainFresh oh yea well i have one thing 2 say 2 u mister... KIA-ORA, LOL

  • innocent

  • everybody stfu you all think it's racist because you read the cracked article

  • This was the 80's when everything was a tad more innocent.

  • @yorkrose26 innocent or ignorant???
