The Australian health system is great as long as you have private health insurance. It's amazing how fast you get service once the hospitals and doctors find that out over there. I don't believe the wait for surgery is quite as long as it is for the UK. Imagine waiting months to over a year for surgery, all the while hoping the cancer in you doesn't spread.

I pay $4200 YR to cover a family of four, a $20 copay, heavily discounted generic drugs, free dental and about a $2500 catastrophic deductible for major surgery, the same as yours. The last time I saw a doctor, my daughter broke her arm. I paid $50 emergency room visit and $20 every time after that to see the specialist. That's all there was.

You can plan to buy a car or a house: it's your own responsibility and your money allocation--but you can't plan a medical affliction. Not the same. Most companies will pay the 8% penalty and drop you into the Public Option. Once you're in the Public Option you cannot get out. It will then be illegal to own private health insurance.

I was w/out health care for 1 month, and had to take my daughter to the dr. They charged me $150 for the office visit, then the medicine was over $40 for an ear infection! The Australian health system is great as long as you have private health insurance. It's amazing how fast you get service once the hospitals and doctors find that out over there. I don't believe the wait for surgery is quite as long as it is for the UK. Imagine waiting months to over a year for surgery, all the while hoping the cancer in you doesn't spread.

If this health care reform bill is so good, then why won't the democrats who wrote the bill drop their private health insurance and sign up for it?
If the democrats in the Senate and Congress really believed this was a good idea, they would be the first to sign up for it.
But they refuse to, even though they wrote it. They must believe that private health insurance is better. Strange isn't it?

If someone comes up with a system to help people between jobs, I would support it. As long as it will not affect the insurance I currently have. There are many things the govt can do to help the situation instead of throwing the baby out with the bath water.
Tort reform would be a major start. Doctors order more tests than necessary just to cover themselves in case they're sued. Driving up the cost of health care for everyone. Allow individuals to purchase health insurance across state lines.

Good things happen to people who stay in school, get a college degree and apply themselves in life. They getter better paying jobs, live in better neighborhoods, eat better food and have better health insurance.
People who don't finish school, don't go to college and don't apply themselves in life have worse jobs, earn less money, tend to eat more fast food and have worse or no health insurance.
I'm all for a safety net to help people between jobs but not for people who won't help themselves.

What about Americans who lose their jobs due to the recession? What of single mothers who are working 3 jobs and insurance is not offered? What of people with disabilities? The poor? I have a friend who works with the government & our system is very strict. Only those who are eligible for benefits receive them after harrowing interviews & paperwork (proof of income, etc). We are #37 on the best healthcare in the world w/France @ #1. That' just pathetic.

In the same back room deal, Pharm companies also agreed to spending $150 million in advertising FOR the Obama Health Care plan. So, who is the bad guy here? There are now 65M Americans without insurance. The average American pays $12K premiums a year with a $1K to $2500 deductable. You figure they see the doctor twice a year? Their kids twice a year? They are paying deductables before their benefits even kick in -a waste of $12K. I would accept Healthcare reform because that' $12K in my pocket that Pharmisuiticals & insurances do not steal from me!

I pay $4200 YR to cover a family of four, a $20 copay, heavily discounted generic drugs, free dental and about a $2500 catastrophic deductible for major surgery, the same as yours. The last time I saw a doctor, my daughter broke her arm. I paid $50 emergency room visit and $20 every time after that to see the specialist. That's all there was.
The #37 ranking is from WHO nine years ago. They don't rank anymore.

Most companies will pay the 8% penalty and drop you into the Public Option. Once you're in the Public Option you cannot get out. It will then be illegal to own private health insurance.

I have crappy expensive insurance, but I have it because I have no other choice.I waited 3 MONTHS for an appt. for a neurologist for spinal surgery to prevent paralysis. That's after 2 MONTHS of looking for an "acceptable" doctor according to my ins. co. 2 MONTHS waiting for my INSURANCE to decide me being paralyed might be bad. 1 MONTH waiting for surgery date.8 MONTHS+ I've got medical expenses on a credit card. Tell me again how much better my INSURANCE COMPANY will handle my healtcare?

Lets see....You dislocate your shoulder on a Saturday or Sunday and go to the "The Clinic" in Canada...oh wait it is closed on the weekends...so you head to the ER...you find out from the Nurse you will have to wait anywhere from 2 - 10 hours..lets give the Canadians a break and you end up waiting 6 hours and the nurse puts your arm in a sling and tells you your injury isn't that bad and to go see a clinic doctor on Monday. That is better,,NOT!!

Please! Do you know how many people that I work with have no health care! They can't even afford to go to the doctor to get medicine! I was w/out health care for 1 month, and had to take my daughter to the dr. They charged me $150 for the office visit, then the medicine was over $40 for an ear infection! Obviously those who complain about this health care reform have never been without health care - like most of the people in the US.

Oregon has their own govt run health system, just like the one Obama is forcing upon us. Oregon denied Barbara Wagner cancer drugs to extend and possibly save her life because it wasn't cost effective. Instead, the govt offered her assisted suicide. The govt will gladly pay the bill if she decides to stop costing the state more money. She never got the drugs and died.

Congress could change national laws that prevent individuals from purchasing health care policies that meet the regulations of the state where the provider is located rather than where the buyer lives.
There's also a health care czar and the Dept Health and Human Services.

Look at all the sad stories in the media about people with life and death illnesses who paid their premiums and were denied life saving care or were forced into bankruptcy trying to pay the cost themselves. These things happen because of language inserted in a contract that you would have to be a lawyer to understand. The language the regulators wrote in the contracts could not become law unless those in Federal, State, and Local Governments who claim to represent the people voted for it.

Govt regulators have allowed insurance co to write the regulations that lets them cancel policies for all kinds of reasons. Why would someone who represents you allow the Insurance Industry to insert language into their contracts that assist the Insurance Industry in not being responsible for your Financial Loss?

The goal of Obama is for America to have a single-payer, national health care system controlled by the federal government and funded by increased taxes on citizens of almost every economic status. Like every government program, any health care system run by the federal government will expand and cost far more than predicted.
This is exactly what has happened with Medicare and Medicaid. To control costs, health care will be rationed.

Under a national health care plan, the market will consist of whatever the bureaucrats are willing to buy. That means treatment for politically stylish diseases will get some money, but otherwise the main concern will be cost-control. More treatments, to bureaucrats, mean more costs. Cancer treatments are terribly expensive, that's why people from other countries with government controlled health care come to America.

More people think Obama's govt takeover of the health industry is a bad idea than a good one. The problem is how the insurance companies are regulated, not the healthcare system. They are the ones who need the regulation overhaul. You don't scrap the whole system because of it. No one wants a govt bureaucrat between them and their doctor, making decisions as to what kind of care you will get.
