Do anybody know anything about english qualifications to get in. I live near london and Im doing my a levels, ive got my heart set on RSAMD and I don't know what I need to get in. Any ideas?
Yeah, I go the the Junior Department and you need Higher English, English version is A levels I think, so they prefer you to have it but its no essential if you have potential.
Yeah basicly, I would aim to have the A level English and Music, but if you have potential I dont think qualifications would get in the way of you gaining entrance if you have a good audition.
Sorry, they prefer you to have 3 A levels, 2 preferred to be English and Music, and another, but as I said before they can make allowances if you fall short of the desired qualifications, if you have a good audition and satisfy the panel.
I'm predicted to get quite good grades but I'm looking into the acting course. Im doing theatre studies as one of my A levels so hopefully not having English and Music will be ok.
im currently about to leave senior school and begin college. i dont know a lot about academies or universities but i went on the website for the RSAMD and hav my heart set on going there. it looks amazing. hopefully, it will stay open for another 5 years at least!
good on him. I would be lost without RSAMD, and I'm not an actor. It's not perfect but it's a damn sight better than nothing, and a lot better than many of its contemporaries, not just in acting either.
I know there's been a breakthrough with the SFC and the academy had an internal restructuring, but I wish that all this positive movement to securing the future of the academy will continue.
I go to the R.S.A.M.D. i am a youth works student and im hounered and privaliged to be a part of it, im 14 and have always wanted to act, oh and to the comment that said it gives empty hopes and it should close that isnt indeed true, R.S.A.M.D, teaches you about many aspects of the theatre and boosts confidence so eh there ye go !
He's right about one thing. RSAMD is important. Not because it gave us him but it gave us other great Scottish actors and actress like David Tennant.(Who also went there.)

Haha he sounds like he's talking about starving children in Africa. "If it disappears... I don't know what will happen."
Hmm, maybe we will get rid of an elite institution that grooms people like yourself to become overpaid actors with over inflated egos. There is no shortage of actors. There is, however, a national shortage of Scientists /Engineers etc. Perhaps the RSAMD could be turned into a proper educational establishment.
It is the foundation of so many futures of prospect actors in Scotland, as James McAvoy said, there's only one training academy for actors in Scotland so the future of that academy is so important to those who want to pursue a career in performing arts in that country. Also how dare you have the sheer cheek to describe drama students as people who are "groomed to become overpaid actors with inflated egos".
As divine as that sounds, I'm afraid you cannot "groom" someone to become a talented performer, great actors work hard to perfect their craft, and I find it highly amusing that you think actors have an "inflated ego" when it is obvious to me that you're a narcissistic individual who lacks the simple ability to appreciate the talents of others. Also may I point out that when you spend weekends alone in front of your TV, who entertains you? Actors.
i have to agree with llamacheeks - i worked incredibly hard to get a place at rsamd and if the academy closed down it would cause grief in the heart of every actor or performing arts person in scotland. and maybe there is a minority of actors who do have 'inflated egos' but the majority of us work hard, trained hard and reap the benefits on a grounded level, i implore you to do your homework next time before disaproving of a national, treasured, institution.
i'd also like to add that i'm going to do everything i can to help rsamd, and it might not be much, but if enough people do it, it could save the school.
and also (sorry i'm ranting in little bits) would you feel the same if it was a village primary school?? where i live now alot of village primary schools are closing/making cuts -do you think we should turn them into engineer training places??

Well. Firstly, primary schools are already "Engineer training places" in that they teach people to read and write and do maths. Which can also help with a great many other vocations.
My main problem is seeing highly overpaid people such as McAvoy complaining that this place needs money. If he was that bothered I'm sure he could slip them a bob or two.
An you have to admit his "I don't know what's going to happen" is a bit melodramatic. But then, I suppose, that is what he trained for.
My main problem is reading the thoughts of cynics who know very little about the workings of education, public funding or the entertainment industry but, nonetheless, have very huge and uninformed opinions about the workings of these aforementioned topics. Bringing to light a lack of funding that can lead to layoffs and curriculum changes at the only Conservatoire in Scotland is admirable.
His financial assistance would not remedy the problems the institution faces but his voice does add to the public discourse as well as political and financial consideration of Conservatoire funding.
i'm going there in the fall!

Ahh right thank you. So is it based on an audition rather than specifically on qualifiactions?
