at 07:35 i think what topalov is trying to do is he wants to bring his rook to d8 attacking the queen.....but he couldnt have done that without playing h6 as otherwise queen would have taken the rook and after blacks rook at a8 would have captured the queen...anand would have got a checkmate with his Rd8....so that h6 move came up just coz he wanted to play Rd8 and drive anands queen away from d2...so thats a fine move in my opinion...WHAT SAY GUYS??
The move that loses the game is 25...Bxg2, which allows 26.exf6 and Black is lost. A better move would have been 25...Qg7 or 25...Qh7, which would successfully trade the queens off, but would allow White to win the bishop on c6, leaving White a pawn up and in a much better position.
the loosing move...h6 ....this is considered to be a weakness in the pawn structure especially with the black bishop of the borad....anand simply saw that and ruthlessly punished topalov for that mistake ...if he had left the pawns on the same rank none of this could have happened and probably that game would have ended in a draw....
the h6 move in my opinion is pretty useless in that certain position . i would just move the queen so the next move the queen isn't vulnerable to the discovered attack.
@TheDoplarEffect No because for instance, the Black Queen on A7 could of taken the White Queen on G7 and then the white pawn could of taken the Black Queen and then the Black King could of taken the White Pawn.. no Check-Mate in that move im afraid..
loving your vids jrobi. Can anyone explain to me how these chess championships work..? I mean do they have a time limit for each move? how long does a typical game last? do they play the whole tournament in one day? help = THANKS
Interesting remarks about the opening. Why not Nf3, F4, C4, G3 etc for white as Topolov to vary things ? Anand is so booked up, surprise value would work in his favour.
this is my first time watching famous chess matches n i wana tell u that u do a great job of explaining their moves n different possibilities n why they dont go down those routes

rly good vids man. was wondering wot u think about computer chess programs these days. i mean kasparov lost in 1997 to deep blue when computers were much less powerful than today. i wonder how far they've come since then. also since i play poker also i was thinking if the same could be done for a holdem program also :P
Great commentary, I really appreciate the way you describe the way it would have ended, being that they never finish a game completely. Helps alot. Thanks.
Jrobi, you do an awsome job explaining the games. at 10:55, you say Topalov has a nice defence move bringing up his rook. love your game analysis. keep it up!
Nice commentary and video. But somehow jz felt that u neglect to mention the real strategies and meanings of the moves. A lot of on the surface analysis and explanations abt unimportant straightforward lines.
@faraonlatino: the point of f6 is not to stop e5, it was to bring black's queen to defence. E5 would be bad because then White could jz check and play qf6, threatening nf5 the next move.
jrobi....as always, you are the best!!! i love your passion for the game and really appreciate you taking the time to explain the moves...its a wonderful tournament indeed but am sure anand is going to come on top....you keep doing a great job and i'll come over to watch all the videos!!!
Hi Jrobi. Thanks for the video. I was wondering at minute 10:00 right after Anand sacrifices his night and puts the queen in h6. The refutation seems to be pawn e5 by topalov instead of its f6 choice since it doesn't just discourages e5 by anand but actually makes it impossible to play, and also inmediately prevents the rooks from passing to the h file. I wonder what could had happened if topalov played that move. Can you make an analysis of that?
At 11:04, I was just wondering why didn't Topalov move his knight to C5 attacking both roots (the light square bishop aiming down at the root at C2 and the knight aiming down at the root at E6
Topalov really impressed me in the first game. But Anands final attack in this game was eminent, it really shows the importance of timing in chess.. Thank you jrobichess for covering the championship, love ur style.
after topalov put the pawn on a5 to defend his bishop shouldnt anand have
exchanged bishops, it would have lead to double black pawns in b...
what do u think sir?
similarly
after anand put his knignt on a3 shouldnt topalov have moved b4, it would have kicked the knight plus a5 b4 is unshakable as both a and c white pawns are passed/captured
After na2, Anand could take the pawn on a5 with the knight on c4. This leaves the rook's path clear to attack the queen on c5. Now if the queen moves out of the way, it leaves the rook free to take the bishop at c6. Or, if the knight takes the rook at c1, the after the recapture by the d rook, the queen is still under attack and it movies away and the rook takes the bishop. So, 1 white rook is traded off with 1 pawn, 1 bishop and 1 knight of black. What do you think?
anand is an animal he kept that knight on the rim for a long time, i would have thrust my b pawn forward quicker, that would probobly give me the chance to unleash a beautiful shot at his queen... Nice video btw
I guess he thought that there wasn't too much to worry about in the center. The queen, bishop and 2 nights kind of hold off the white pieces, though not too effectively. Topalov probably thought that if white went with a full-blown assault, he'd have a much safer king. Just my 2 cents. I probably would have played something else, but that move is in no way bad.
@playa4ever989 If he'd have taken the pawn sitting on f7 then white responds by capturing the knight with his castle.
then if he'd have taken the castle with his queen, white would be able to respond by capturing the black queen with his king. so he'd just lose extra pieces and still be check mated
the mistakes were made earlier on in the game. i'd recommend controlling the centre of the board, get your knights into the middle as they cover so many squares both agressively and defensively.

I'm really enjoying your coverage of the World Chess Championships. The first thing I do when I get home is check to see if you've made a video of the game and then watch it!
Very suprising play from Anand, well I shouldn't say that the man is the defending World Chess Champion. This was a monster of a game, and Topalov, better come up with something quick next game before this thing gets out of hand.
Great commentary Jrobi. I like it cause you just stick to the game moves mostly, and don't confuse me with a 10 move line that could have taken place. Just get em up sooner please! =) j/k thanks Jrobi.

@jrobichess
instead of h6 topalov should have moved na2, forcing anand to move the rook from row c coz c2 would have lead to na6b4
so ra1 should have followed by na6b4
rb1 could have been tackle by qb4, anand would not have liked to exchange queens, since it would correct the doubled pawns plus can lead to a draw

well, im a newbe in chess, but i wonder why black didnt move his rook to f7, what would be dangerous for him then? Please explain that to me!
playa4ever989 1 year ago
@playa4ever989 If he'd have taken the pawn sitting on f7 then white responds by capturing the knight with his castle.
then if he'd have taken the castle with his queen, white would be able to respond by capturing the black queen with his king. so he'd just lose extra pieces and still be check mated

Wow, great game from Anand there! Let´s pray Topalov doesn´t use the d pawn opening in the next one, i´m looking forward to that game, thanks for uploading these games Jrobi, appreciate it!

@bassieeee7 I am hoping he definitely mixes it up in the next game, he really has to try something different on Anand.

Thanks for the videos jrobi. The thing i mostly appreciate is that your videos are not at all complicated and even a beginner could well understand and gain knowledge from them.Keep up the good work!

btkw 1 year ago
@btkw In its actual native language, it's "FianKKetto". I had a Spanish speaker tell me that very early on when I was learning the game, and it has stuck with me. Thanks for checking out the vid!
