  • This is def the best recording of Havendance on yourtube!!

  • This is def. the best recording of Havendance on youtube. :)

  • @bpbjork

I play the contra bass, and bass clarinet, both are the counter part to the tuba, but I will say that most composers use the bass clarinet part for the contra bass so if the contra bass is the counter part, and it plays the bass clarinet part then obviously the bass clarinet is also it's counter part. oh also the bassoon and the bass clarinet are usually really similar parts, or they fit together :))

  • hahhaaa remember playing this in 8th grade :)

  • i play euphonium im a freshmen and in my 4th band and we are playing this this song is awesome.

  • i play euphonium im a freshmen and in my 4th band and we are playing this this song is awesome

  • i play this on tuba currently im pretty beast at my part lol i love the rests and mood changes in the piece, its beautiful so im willing to bet holsinger's daughter was a bundle of fun like this piece is :)

  • stop changing tempo dude

  • I play first Alto Sax on this piece. We are playing it this year. What irritates me in all the versions i heard of this, Alto Saxes NEVER project. You can virtually never hear them. Hell in my band, we are taught to play out. Lol. You hear us clear as a bell.

  • @AnreRakam but why would you want to hear the altos. they are good for jazz, but i just prefer the timbre of every other woodwind instrument.

  • love the alto sax

  • OMGOSH! LOVE THIS!!!!!!!! GO SALEM BANDS!

  • lol i just played it in are high school concert band's christmas concert, we had 2 weeks to work on it, it went great! I played trumpet lol very exciting song

  • Great song, played it when I was in High School...clarinet

  • Ooh yay so honored to play the bell/chime part. It's so pretty <3

  • First alto is a great part in this. My fav song by far.

  • I love all of Holsinger's music! i was so happy to be able to meet him after a band competition in Chatanooga Tennesee :)

  • WOOT 1ST HORN PART!!! this has to be one of the most challenging yet exciting pieces i've played.

  • Hey empires do you play tuba?

  • I'm first clarinet and I love this song it is a lot of fun to play! I go to a very small school so our band isn't very big or anything special but we try and hopefully they can get it together. I can play it though it's pretty easy.

  • i love this song we are also doing Variations on a Korean Folk song both are very hard but sooo much fun to play at the same time!!!!

  • @charlesndifon1 omg, we played Variantions on a Korean Folk song for Festival last month, the end of the first page with all those little sixteenth notes, are a painnnnnnnnnnnnn

  • @adlinecooper omg tell me about it...i play xylophone and we play it so fast and i can not play all of it and we have comition net week .. AHHH

  • I'm currently in concert band, and I play the alto clarinet. This song is SO fun to play. =)

  • Alto Clarinet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My director wont let me play it he is such a hypocrite about everything. Because he wont let me play it when they have a clarinet choir it sucks because people who cant play alto play alto

  • @empires228 is alto clarinet harder than a regular Bb Clarinet?

  • @adlinecooper

Umm kinda yea. I can play it better but Im long out of practice on Bb. A lot of schools have crap altos though and even a good one can be moody in the upper range.

  • @adlinecooper haha well I have to disagree with other person... I don't think it's harder... but hey thats just ones opinion.

  • @adlinecooper

it depends on your own strengths.

I've played both and I have to say i like the Bb clarinet better. It wasn't necessarily easier but I'm a bigger fan of fast melodies and high notes, so i was more fond of Bb. The alto was fun though. You have to be more about supporting tones than melodic lines.

  • this song is so damn fun to play

  • Comment removed

  • i play the tuba in concert band, and you are right it is a pretty hard song to play. my band just start playing this 2 days ago and we got some of it down.

  • We're playing this song for our competition Monday... I play the clarinet..& boy this song is very difficult but I think we can pull it off before Monday..

  • it sounds rushed around 3:20

  • lol i have to play this song today...temple blocks, guiro, woodblock, gong. i have a lot to try to juggle in one song

  • I play oboe!! I am in Honor Band in Junior high and we are almost mastering this!! We're gonna do this piece for UIL!! We r sooo getting a 1!!!

  • We're playing this song for out competitions. I play the Clarinet and I really dislike this song! I mean not the song it's self, it's actually a cool song, I just hate playing it.

  • i think the french horns are too overpowering...the altos shouldve played out more..and it sounds like you guys had the same problem we're having..staying together thtoughout all the time changes

  • I'm a percussionist, in our band & were taking this to compitition in one week. lolz just wanted to say this is really helpful to listen to my part! (wood block, triangle, cowbell, temple blocks, guiro, & gong) weve had two weeks to get it down & we got it! the time changes are tricky for counting, but its easy once you get it. btw I'm in the 9th-10th grade band! I'm a 9th grader! thanks for posting this (=

  • Your welcome glad you like it :)

  • Yeah. It's challenging.

  • This is such a weird composition. It's our third week practicing this and we still can't get timing down.

  • we played this song when i was in High School. I played the Alto Sax, and we were told that we had to play all pretty but loud. it hurt. and in this i cant really hear them. but i hear French Horn

  • I play oboe on this.. it sucks cause I never get to play.

  • Anybody reply to this comment....can any1 tell me of a piece of music with a bass clarinet solo i know my orchestra is doing suit in e flat which is a great piece no doubt however i have only 1 solo :( Bass clarinet is frowned upon..so can anyone name a piece for me

  • The Witch and the Saint by Steven Reineke

is the only one I can think of this second

  • Oh and Symphonic Dances from West Side story both the band arrangement and the original orchestra version have bass solos.

  • We played this my 8th grade, and I was first horn. I was badass, those were great times.

  • This song is sick! I love this song! It's awesome because its just fun and any level of bands from middle school to college bands will play this. It's awesome.

  • i played this in middle school haha. The ending is the best ending if have ever heard/played. I played snare btw

  • I played the alto sax one part in my band and we were going to play it for contest, but somehow we didnt get to go which was a bummer, but I love this piece.

  • i played that part too (in high school), but if i remember correctly we played it at the fiesta-val invitational music festival in st. louis in 2000. awesome song!

  • I just realized you can hear them once at 4 mins in haha

  • @tjones3293 Alto sax yeah!! xD

  • yea I think their really good but I sat directly in front of them (4 horns were exactly behind the 3 bassoons) and their all I could hear half the time.

  • three Bassons, are you serious!?

We're about to play it for our spring concert and I don't know if I can pull it off. This is my first year playing bassoon and I can't handle playing long

  • Yep 3 of us! We had 4 in honor band at camp this year I just am lazy and haven't uploaded anything

  • our band tried playing it 2day and it is hard veryyyyy hard

  • Is it me, or does this song remind you of The Incredibles? Lol just a thought, awesome song!

  • i play 1st trumpet on this peice and i love it my high shcool band played this and everyone loved it i wish we could play it every year or do a marching show over it

  • so it was actually holsinger that directed this for yall?

  • yep!

  • dude holsinger loves horns lol!

  • horns........WOW!!!!! dat was incredible!! cant wait till i get thus music kill dat horn part

  • everythib was great!! though i play f horn

i think that was a little 2 much, but i would of probaly done the same thing!!!! LOL

  • f horns need to chill out a bit! :B

  • imagine playing it on oboe, it sticks out like a sore thumb

  • When the oboes bad lol. We had 4 in this perticular band and I dont think you can even hear them in the whole recording lol.

  • imagine having to play the flute for this song

  • I know I coulden't lol. I can only play the bassoon, Bari sax, bass clarinet, tenor sax, and alto clarinet parts.

  • this is awesome im playing this for my spring concert, I heard it was faster but we play at this same tempo.

  • Well im pretty sure this is about the right tempo that Holsinger recommends as he was the one directing us.

  • The french Horns are blasting! lol nice.

  • The hardest part of this song for me is the sixteenth note triplet part at i think is 87? or 91.. whatever the horns and flutes have it and i believe tenors. Its a pain in the ass to hit. The next most annoying part is 45 when you have people come in at different times. im always hearing people come it wrong and its aggrivating.

  • we are playing this in our band. i love it. i play 1st trumpet. its amazing. this is the best song ever!

  • my high school is playing this for U.I.L. and we got 1.1.1 i play 1st trumpet and this song owns

  • i love the cowbell solos XD

  • Holsinger joked around about that one alot every time they missed it.

  • lol thats pretty epic u had Holsinger as a conductor

  • Lol were playing this in band this year! i love it =D

  • This song is hard for everyone because it messes with your head by changing time and keys.

  • The horns over did it i think....

  • they didnt have a choice the altos wouldent play out and the lone baritone and tenor sax players couldetn do much.

  • The Altos wouldn't play out? WHAT???!?!?!?

  • even if the horns overdid it, at least they did it with an amazing sound

  • Ill agree with that. They have a good tone and a great sound there just to cocky about it and played over everyone in every song.

  • You went to bandcamp in hays?

  • go trumpets

  • They were our worst section. I swear my 8th grade sister playes trumpit better then the frist chair.
