  • Can you get intoxicated if you eat too many?

  • well makers mark costs $40 for 700ml in australia. So I think I will make these using jim beam white which is $27 for 700ml.

  • @MrSnubzy Any brand of whisky will be fine.

    --Betty :)

  • I liked the presentation. Thank you!

  • Betty I love you dearly and your recipes and instructions are wonderful...BUT...I see you have some Kroger Value chocolate pieces. *sigh* Now don't get me wrong, I buy Value ketchup and Value baking mix. Point of fact Value white loaf bread is my preferred choice..but the chocolate is...well....not very good.

I'm SO going to do a batch of those soon...but I gotta have my Nestle or Hershey chocolate.

Bless you for passing this recipe along.

  • @orcgoddessspike I hope you enjoy the recipe. It's the same one that they use at Maker's Mark Distillery. Rick and I loved the bourbon balls even with the Value brand chocolate!

  • I love your accent

  • @ShellyMimi Thanks!

    --Betty :)

  • Very hot lady.

  • @byan85 Thanks for the thought.

    --Betty :)

  • @saudisally It is very easy. Just chill them very well. I usually freeze them; no harm done--and easy to coat--and sets up quickly.

  • Hello, Betty,

I have a stupid question. Can you feel the effects of the Bourbon in these? (can you get drunk on them?) I've never heard of Bourbon Balls before, but would like to make them for the family.

    Thanks.

  • @meadowlassie Eaten at a normal pace, you will not feel any effects of the alcohol. I just love them--they are my favorite candy--or treat of any kind!

    --Betty :)

  • @bettyskitchen Thank you! ~ the other side of the family likes to drink. I was hoping these would be something that would please them. They are hard to impress. (They aren't drunks or anything! They just enjoy their spirits) lol

  • Just a tip: toast the all the pecans for 3-5min at around 350 degrees Fbefore you use them. It makes the flavor of the pecans come out!

  • I'm gonna try making these with some coconut rum. Thanks for the recipe!

  • I don't know if you get this alot, but u r amazingly sexy!

  • I don't know if you get this alot, but u r amazingly sexy!

  • Thanks for sharing this!! I wonder what other nuts would taste good... And if there's something you could use besides nuts if someone was allergic... (BTW, your bottle turned out way better than mine did!! Love Maker's!)

  • @TheViktrola The Rebecca Ruth style of bourbon ball does not use nuts at all inside--just one pecan half on the top, so you don't really have to add nuts to the mixture. If you want to use other nuts, I think walnuts or almonds would be good. Thanks for your lovely comment!

  • Hi Betty,

i'll make a 'big batch' and take 'em to work as a pre x-mas treat ;-)

i will probably pass on the paraffin, paraffin probably makes 'em smoother

but plain semi sweet swiss (or german) chocolate will be my choice on this one.

Pecans are similar to Walnuts ain't they?

Anyway, i know they will be great!

Can i substitute the Whisky with something else for children?

As always, best wishes from Germany

    Joe

  • Hi Joe!

These will be wonderful for you to make for the Christmas season! You can definitely leave out the paraffin! The semisweet Swiss chocolate will be great! Yes, pecans and walnuts are similar, so you can make a substitution there, if you like. I'm not a big drinker, but the whisky really does make these taste terrific. For the children, you can leave out the liquor, and make a batch with the filling rolled into balls and dipped. Here we can get orange flavoring, if you like that.

    -Betty

  • I m goint to try making them tomorrow, they look tasty, thanks for sharing Betty

  • I think you will enjoy them! Thanks for your sweet comment!

    --Betty :)

  • It is a wonderful recipe! I made two batches of it, and I keep them stored in sip-lock bags in the freezer. They taste wonderful frozen when you want just a taste of sweet and chocolate! Thanks for your lovely comment!

    --Betty :)

  • you guys are so lucky -- whisky is so cheap down there!

  • I didn't realize it was less expensive! Too bad we're not big drinkers! But, I am really enjoying the bourbon balls (frozen, about 1 each night!). Thanks for your comment!

    --Betty :)

  • Betty, have you ever considered selling any of your creations of ebay? I have seen some people selling cookies on there recently

  • Actually, I have seen some foods for sale on eBay. I don't think I want to get involved with the packing and shipping--I'm busy enough now! Thanks for the idea!

    --Betty :)

  • To save time having to roll the balls, you could have poured your dough in some wax paper and rolled it into a small rod shape. Then take a knife and cut in small pieces.

  • You could do that! Thanks for the tip!

    --Betty :)

  • WOW! You are SOOO talented Betty!

Thankyou for making this recipe. My dad would love these so I will have to make some for him.

    Hugs to you both x

Best wishes to you and your family!

  • Those bourbon balls look very yummy Betty.

You have made some very delicious things in your video. Thank you for sharing them.

  • The bourbon balls taste great. I'm keeping 2 batches frozen, but I eat one about every night, so I don't know how long they will last! I am happy to share them with you! Thanks for your comment!

    --Betty :)

  • You should have gave the trick-or-treaters these balls for halloween =)

I never heard of paraffin before so it was interesting to see it used.

  • I think the parents would have been a little concerned with their trick-or-treaters getting bourbon balls! Parafin is great in candy coating, because the coating won't melt in your hands; it stays nice and firm. The bourbon balls are delicious! I hope you get to try them. (You can change the flavor to something like orange extract, if you don't drink liquor.) Thanks for your sweet comment!

    --Betty :)

  • Makers Mark is an excellent gift idea for anyone in the country at the holidays. The bourbon balls that you are featuring are a nice recipe card idea to add if you want to attach something to the bottle if you don't care to make them yourself. Truly, folks.. listen to Betty... this is the REAL DEAL!

  • Thanks for your lovely comment, Patsy! I like your idea of the gift "package." You can provide the Maker's Mark and recipe, or make the bourbon balls and wrap them in some clear cellophane with red ribbon. Check rebeccaruth(dot)com if you want to see what bourbon balls sell for--over $30 per pound! Great "package" idea for a gift, Patsy! Thanks!!!

    --Betty :)
