  • Best Megadrive shooter imho. It only lacks a serious 2p mode D: By the way, you can set lives to 0 in some versions to get 99 of em (it's hella hard..)

  • back in the day this game blew my mind. the music kicks ass too

  • Wow the amount of time this dude played to bat this in one go took me like months and months as a kid to get to the last stage over and over and over and not even beat the game xD!! epicccc

  • This was one of those games my folks rented for me on the weekend when I was a kid...I didnt expect much, but DAMN it blew my mind! They knew I liked shooters of this type, and to me, this has to be the best of the best that a 16 bit system can offer.Graphics, sound, gameplay...perfect!

  • Thunderforce does what nintendont!!!

  • r type and gradius wish

  • You know, the American name and cover actually kept me away from this incredible game back in the day. "Lightening" Force was bad enough but the subtitle "Quest for the Darkstar" what were they smoking at the time? I didn't discover the awesomeness of this game until later. This is hands down the BEST shooter on Genesis. In fact I love the Thunder Force games as a whole. IV avd V are some of the greatest shmups I've ever played.

  • They don't do music like this anymore. :(

  • This and Ranger X are the two best games on the system and for me, of the entire era.

At least, this is the best of the whole series. Gameplay, music, GFX, it had it all.

  • why is their no video game music like this nowadays?? "Next Gen" my arse.

  • All the tracks from the game are awesome, but this is quite a nice selection.

  • 6:28 i always thought that was the weirdest looking boss in the game

  • holy crap this game looks amazing, must find!

  • thanks for making this video its so nostalgic, love it!

  • Never played this game, but THIS.MUSIC. KICKS. ASS.

  • When it's not trying to mock-rock too hard, this soundtrack is among some of the best I've ever heard. "Because You're the Number One", "Remember Knight of Legend", and "Silvery Light of the Moon" are the standouts and could easily be used in an RPG. Great stuff.

  • I love this. It's basically classic speed/power metal from the 1980s. This is fucking great stuff.

  • Great game, great graphics, great music. One of the best games on the genesis.

  • this is just as great as i remember it awesome game and soundtrack

  • 4:20 YESSSS! Metal Squad! The best Thunderforce song EVER! I am so glad that you put it in here!

  • Except from the credit line song metal squad is the best song :D so fucking great game! My band made a really good cover of metalsquad go check it out on our channel and tell me what you think of it :D

  • pretty good selection, would've traded in the options theme for something else though, that chord sequence is soo annoying.

  • I came looking for this video just to hear the end credits (8:35), some seriously moving stuff!!!

Also the track for level 8 ranks right up there with level 2 from Zero Wing as my greatest shoot em up tracks ever

  • i could only complete this game on easy mode :(

  • PLEASE. someone send me this song, especially the one at the end.

  • Good video, that game brings back memories of playing the game to death and loving the music, especially the final boss music. I wonder where I can get the soundtrack for that game.

    Good video.

  • Technosoft Game Music Collection Volume 05 ~ Thunder Force IV [TCS-0005] 1992

Good luck finding it to buy, however, you should be able to find it somewhat easily for download.

  • I found the soundtrack, it's pretty good. Especially the final boss theme.

  • I'm especially stuck on that War Like Requiem.

  • It is quite the piece, it's short lived, but powerful. The Thunderforce games are long overdue for a compilation re-release.

  • Better soundtrack on the megadrive system I think

  • I fudgin love this game and its soundtrack. Both are masterpieces.

Sadly though, Thunder Force doesn't get enough love. Where's the LOVE!? XP

  • The memory of this game lingers in my heart, deep, DEEP!

  • Yes, it lingers in my memory t..... wait ... Seems like I just bought it from ebay ... plus a Mega Drive ... yeah ...

  • Oh! You dude, may you forever love this game as all us here do!

...come to think of it I might buy one too ^_^

  • When I got this for Christmas I was blown away. Attached the MD to my stereo and pissed everbody of for days.

One of the best soundtracks for md.

And I knew this game like the back of my hand.

Played through without losing a live ... ;D

  • i want this for the virtual console!

  • ive always loved this sound track. bad ass game

  • The music in this game is amazing, I hope it comes out on the VC.

  • I never knew the Genesis's sound chip could sound this good.

  • Same here, I cant believe they fit that game on a cartridge let alone that wicked soundtrack!

  • Man, the soundtrack to this game absolutely blew me away back in the old days. It still sounds awesome now.

  • Easily one of the best Genesis soundtracks ever.

  • Street of Rage series, Shinobi series, Sonic series too. Ristar, Castlevania Bloodlines

  • Yup agreed all the above are wicked. A great selection of games!

  • gotta say tho the music on the first bit of level one (when you're flying above the water) is far too cheesy.

  • the best tracks are in the later levels! the last level has amazing music, and so does the last boss. also, the underwater bit of the first level has an tune that needs to be remmixed into a full on pounding techno roller with subs and tribal rhythms. i love this game.

  • I still cant believe they managed to squeeze this game onto a Megadrive cart and you only get the odd bit of slow down with the graphics and sound. Fucking genius. I play this on my Megadrive to this game, its still up there as one of my all time faves. Technosoft you are true legends.

  • A trip down memory lane, possible the best shit you will ever hear, brings a tear down my eye!

  • the intro sounds like

NIGHT CROWLER of JUDAS PRIEST yeah!!!!

and all themusic of this game fuckin awsome is like jazz fusion, and heavy metal

  • Thanks for putting this up. Wish someone would put up all the bgm.

  • search thunderforce 4 on google, you will find it. also, i got the whole soundtrack off soulseek

  • This game kick ass all super nintendo games.

  • This could never have run on a SNES. Whilst more powerful than the Megadrive/Genesis it had a much slower clock speed. It would have been really prone to slow down. This game brings back ace memories. Gaming these days ain't what it used to be. I play my megadrive way more than my 360! :)

  • Excellent work! I play my Megadrive loads still too along with my sexbox 360. My MD was given to me for xmas back in 1991 ish and it still works! I cherish it (and my SNES too). Growing up with in the 16-bit era was something special.

  • Thunder Force IV is so kickass. This is possibly the best soundtrack in any Genesis game IMO

  • Also War Like Requiem (Final Boss) FTW

  • Bang on mate. It is IMMENSE!

  • The Themsong is definately the best piece of Music , ever played on a genesis

  • That's one ass kicking theme song.

  • the intro kinda sounds like the first level of DOOM.

  • STAGE 8 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hi, can you do Vapor Trail for the Sega Genesis? That game has some awesome bgm!

  • I have a lot of requests on my plate, but I'll look into it for sure.

  • music in order: opening configuration strite part 1 strite boss stage 5 end stage 8 final boss normal ending hard ending credits game over
  • Nice dude, thanks.

  • Um no dude, its the easy mode then normal mode ending themes.

  • This game series has such great music :)

  • Easily the best shoot em up on the Genesis/Mega Drive, and one of the best soundtracks on the system.

  • @ShakinJamacian you are wrong sir, the best is thunder force III and Elemental master.

  • @ShakinJamacian There is this game called "M.U.S.H.A." WHich I consider to be slightly better :) It even has better music!

  • @MegaSegaGenesis l can't argue about the music from M.U.S.H.A. , that ost blows your face and balls off.

  • @1shoryuken I know right!? I swear, if you don't headbang to level 4 music, your tone deaf!!

  • @MegaSegaGenesis even M.U.S.H.A.'s title screen music is godly, l didnt even bother to press start because l wanted to hear it on loop lol.

  • @1shoryuken I do the same thing....every time...I play it :D It sounds SO amazing on my Model 1 Genesis...The Genesis that plays music the best.

  • Nice music.

Will you upload songs from Zero Wing? The music from that game is as legendary as the intro.

  • Yep, the video for Zero Wing is already done, although it'll be quite some time before it's posted.

  • Nice! Get ready for AYB comments.
