I love this song it totally expresses Harry's feeling when Snape killed Dumbledore. I see everyone is arguing about houses, but everyone seems to forget that chivalry is also a Gryffindor trait. I don't see why everyone thinks they are horrible and bullies cuz most aren't.
Severus Snape did indeed die a hero. There is no denying that. However,I think everyone needs to keep in mind that this song was written in Harry's point of view BEFORE he found out about Snape's true loyalties and that Dumbledore's death was planned between them.
@BrilliantlyHermione Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I find that Gryffindor is the most 'unpleasant' house, while others might say Hufflepuff, or Ravenclaw, or Slytherin. Slytherin does have a lot of jerks, but some people think that Slytherin's jerks are more pleasant than the Gryffindors. I find that Slytherin is not at all unpleasant. Everyone's opinion is different. -3
@LadyGrantaire 'Goodness', as far as I know, isn't exactly a Hufflepuff trait. Loyalty, acceptance, and hard work are all 'good' traits, but Hufflepuffs can be as bad as any other House members.
this song makes me cry. it shows that Snape was considered a coward for being brave, a liar for hiding his feelings, and a traitor for being the most loyal.
Severus Snape was a Slytherin who acted like one. He is everything good about the house.
Why all the prejudice, folks? Everyone has a bit of each house in each of them; it's just about which one is mostly you. And there are good and bad people in every house. (...Except maybe Hufflepuff, because their defining characteristic is goodness...)
I'm proud to be a Slytherin and so was Severus Snape!
Most people I know would probably fit into at least 3 out of the four houses, if not all of them, and through the books we know that all houses have students that would seem to fit better in another house.
My conclusion is that the house-traits and the thread-worn old hat are all bogus to justify random placement of students to whatever house have spare beds left and the "that person fits there" thing is just a selective notion since that's what we're expected to see :|
Now that I know the ending, I always feel so bad for Severus at this part because not only did he just have to kill the only person who truly trusted him, but then Harry comes along and makes him feel a million times worse. I'm not saying Harry wasn't In the right, all the evidence he'd seen pointed to Snape being a true death eater, but I still feel bad.
Very intense. Man, this was a really emotional part of the series for me because I admit, I did lose faith In Severus for a bit. I still thought there was more to him, but I couldn't think of any way to get around the fact that he'd killed Dumbledore.
Snape didn't die like a Gryffindor. Pettigrew was a Gryffindor, and he died a terrible, lonely death by his own hand. Snape died like the amazing Slytherin he is.
awesomeness. :D and just gotta say, Snape's definitely a Slytherin, though he was extremely brave. Not everything is so black and white, just because he has one of a Gryffindor's qualities, doesnt mean he's a Gryffindor now.
He lived like a vile Slytherin, realized his fault like a wise Ravenclaw, became forever loyal to Dumbledor like a true Hufflepuff, and died the death of the Gryffindor Lily deserved
Snape is a Slytherin all the way! He worked for no one but himself as he had his own agenda! Dumbledore just respect it and understood it! Slytherin for ever Snape!
harry just knew that snape had killed his father figure. the hatred and disgust on snapes face as he killed dumbledore was probably for what he was about to do. he hated himself and was disgusted at himself for killing the one person who trusted him.
I'm not saying Slytherins aren't brave, in fact, they can be more brave than Gryffindors. I, as a Gryffindor, have been known to say the only reason I aknowlede Slytherins, (No offence) is because they are brave.
I seriously don't get why Snape died a 'courageous death'. Voldemort killed him because of his (Voldemort's) stupidity, not any other reason. Yes, he was all heart-broken over Lily's death, but that doesn't excuse him telling Harry he's like his father; or the endless taunting he gave every single Gryffindor. And his heroicness for killing Dumbledore, because he got 'permission' from Dumbledore, should be noted, but that doesn't make him a Gryffindor.
Because he didn't sell out anybody like Wormtail did. Snape could've lead Voldemort to Harry in Dean's Forest with no one to stop him. Even until his last moments, he never chose the easy path, which was siding with Voldemort since Dumbledore was dead. He died heroically because Voldemort never caught onto his plan, and rather than just say, "screw this, screw dumbledore, i'm dying here, why should I even bother.." as he was slowly dying, he instead gave Harry the memory he needed.
People, Snape was a Slytherin through and through, but that doesn't mean that he ONLY has qualities of a Slytherin. Hermione sure doesn't, neither do Ron or Harry. Not Neville. I think the ONLY people other than maybe the founders that fit perfectly into one of the Houses was Tom Riddle. So just stop fighting about it! :D
SNAPE IS A SLYTHERIN ALWAYS HAS BEEN ALWAYS WILL BE!!!!!!!!!
Now, please stop saying that he died a Gryffindor. Look at it like this: Hermione had qualities that fit in EVERY house, but she chose to *ACT* on the qualities of a Gryffindor, yet she had a lot of wit and loyalty. Harry could have been in Slytherin but he CHOOSE to *ACT* on the qualities of a Gryffindor! :D
@TheGummyBearOverLord I think people should respect his memory and not defile it. Slytherin may not be the house I am in, and it also may be the house where so many people went bad, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have it's good people. Slytherins do deserve credit because they may not be the nicest, but it was the way many of them were raised or maybe they had to be put in that house coz their family life would have been worse if they didn't.
Harry didn't find out that Dumbledore arranged his own murder until the Prince's Tale in the Deathly Hallows. He though Snape was a no good Death Eater, who betrayed Dumbledore for 'his lord.' He wasn't being stupid, more like rational.
Umm, guys? Harry most likely thought of him as a slytherin who did gryffindor things. So he could totally see him as a slytherin turned gryffindor. So the comment works.

True, I guess. You're probably right. But after finding out Snape is a good guy, its hard not to disagree, with the lyrics... Still like the song though, but I still like the lyrics of 'The Bravest Man I Ever Knew' better, just because it says ... er ... good things about Severus. :)

I really liked the tune to this song, although since I'm a believer of the whole Snape is a good guy, Gryffindor, instead of Slytherin. I didn't like the lyrics about how his heart is black inside. I think MOM is the best band ever! My favorite band! Still great tune though.
@1REDWEASLEY I always assumed it said that because this was written from Harry's POV just after Snape and killed Dumbledore - so obviously, Harry isn't going to know everything that he does by the end of the seventh book - you know? xD
@rose1998able NOO! He is not a Gryffindor!! He is a Slytherin! Harry sees him as the hero born a Sylytherin!! Cause that's what Snape is. A hero from Slytherin.
@rose1998able Don't lie! Severus Snape was never a Gryffindor. Not in Harry's eyes, or Lily's, or anyone!
"One of them was a Slytherin. And he was, probably, the bravest man I ever knew."
Severus Snape was a Slytherin to the core. He brought honour back to Slytherin. He was a Slytherin as a Slytherin was meant to be. And that's what Harry saw him as. And that's what Dumbledore saw for so many years. And that's why Lily loved him. Not because he was a Gryffindor. Because he was a Slytherin.
@theslytherinroze I think Rose only meant that he was a Slytherin who acted like a Gryffindor (because of his incredible bravery.) Not that he was ACTUALLY a Gryffindor.
@HiMyNameIsChels He didn't act like a Gryff though. He acted how Slytherins were supposed to act. With ambition, cunning and a survival instinct to rival all others. Bravery is a trait of the Gryffindors, yes, but it doesn't mean he died the death of a Gryff... Snape is a Slytherin... He was never meant to be a Gryff...
@theslytherinroze I agree with you. I dont know why that statement above has so many thumbs up. Its almost insulting. Severus would never want to be "seen as a Gryffindor" ESPECIALLY in Harry's eyes. Hah.
@theslytherinroze And bravery and courage isn't necessarily the absence of fear. It's knowing that something else is more important than that fear. And I think that that was what was with Severus. I think he was terrified. But he knew that helping The Chosen One, and more importantly, helping Lily's son... Was far more important than the fear he felt.
@theslytherinroze Well... Lily's love for Severus is debatable. The moment Severus was sorted into Slytherin, Lily became convinced that he would turn evil, and acted accordingly. A true friend she was, flirting with James while he was torturing Severus... I would love to find out how Lily and James would've acted if they had lived and Harry had been sorted to Slytherin.
@hpacinstaller Actually, Lily wanted to remain friends I believe. She only split off when he called her a mudblood, and she protected Severus till that day, and even after that she didn't like James torturing him. And she didn't flirt with James until 7th year and by that point Severus was no longer a friend of hers, because of the vicious bastards he hung out with.
@theslytherinroze Yes... after being friends with Severus since childhood and knowing fully well that Severus was very proud person. Severus was humiliated and while Lily was trying to help, she only made the Marauders to bully more. Severus called her mudblood once, felt really horrible about it and tried to apologize, but Lily couldn't forgive him. She was so sure that Severus was evil. Meh... I never liked her, so maybe that's why I read more into their relationship... : D
@hpacinstaller She knew he had that pride, but she's a girl. Where I come from, girls accept help a lot easier than boys do. The people Severus hung out with were evil, and she was the only muggleborn that he was polite to. "But you call everyone of my birth Mudblood, Severus. Why should I be any different?" It was a slip of the tongue that showed how he was thinking of her in that moment, and for her, it showed that he had given into the blood purity and self righteousness of the Dark Lord.
@theslytherinroze yes but harry was saying he was brave...and thats the trait of gryffindors!! so thats why she said that!! slytherins are supposed to be selfish and cowardly!!!
@Caiwyne *Twitch* Okay, that's it. At what point in the entire series did J.K EVER say Slytherins were cowardly? That is the opinion of the majority, but that is not what a Slytherin embodies!
Or perhaps in Slytherin
" You'll make your real friends, Those cunning folks use any means To achieve their ends.
And power-hungry Slytherin loved those of great ambition.
@theslytherinroze alright...i checked and no they aren't cowardly but they wouldn't save their friends if it would hurt them... and they could be cowardly but gryffindors would never be cowardly!!
@Caiwyne Peter Pettigrew. Your argument is invalid. He was the most pathetic of Gryffindors, a weak cowardly traitor. Courage and bravery are not the absence of fear, but the knowledge that something else is more important than that fear. Slytherins value cunning, ambition, power. Not once does that imply cowardice! Ron has been a coward, he ran away from the horcruxes because he missed his mummy. Peter Pettigrew would rather betray his friends than die for them. Soooo Loyal, aye.
@theslytherinroze yes that is true but bravery is one of the traits of gryffindor!! and just because your in it doesn't mean you have to have every single thing right!!
@Caiwyne We can, but you portray Slytherin as cowardly traitorous people who help only themselves. Baravery is a trait of Gryffindor, yes, but that does not mean no one else can show that trait. That's like saying that ONLY Ravenclaws can be intelligent. Just saying. I'd like to stop arguing, but not if you don't understand.
@rose1998able that's implying that only Gryffindor's can be brave- Slytherins are brave too and Snape WAS a Slytherin, he was the bravest man ever but that doesn't mean he wasn't a Slytherin in Harry's eyes
@rose1998able are you saying a Sytherin is not as good as a Griffindor. That's rather rude. I my self am a Sytherin and though he are on the evil side, that doesn''t mean we can't be brave and do what you consider right if we want to.
@rose1998able no he isn't. what does he tell Albus Severus? "You are named after two of the greatest headmasters of Hogwarts, and one of them was a *Slytherin*, and he was the bravest man I ever knew."
he views snape as a slytherin, but that's not a bad thing....
@rose1998able hardly he was a nasty piece of crap who never cut harry any slack he was only doing what he did out of guilt for the woman he loved; all personal
@rose1998able hell no, he died as a HERO, not a slytherin, not a gryffindor, hufflepuff or ravenclaw, a HERO, you understand me?! (Dont get pissed peas)
I've been wanting to rmeix the audiobooks with the soundtracks' songs and wrock songs for a while now, but I have no time and a megazombie computer (it's tried to die more times than I can count >_<). BUT, I think I'll remix this into the Half-Blood Prince chapter =D
I always pretend I'm Dumbledores grandaughter, and i always feel like i really am (also at full moons to... teehee werewolf) this song makes me cry...
@liferocksREAD No one should dare call him a coward anymore. I can't blame Harry for doing it in all the hatred but Severus Snape was the opposite of cowardly.
I love this song! Don't get me wrong, turns out Snape was an amazing man, but at the end of HBP I felt like Harry. Plus, this song really captures how I imagine Harry to feel then... awesome job, guys!
This is Ginny from the halfbloods as you can see mine and Tonks(Juliet's) comments earlier. I just wanted to say that he died with a golden heart, not a black one!
Severus Snape. ♥ He was the exact opposite of a coward. I started to sing this song but could not bring myself to sing the, " coward don't turn your back" part. He was a Slytherin and died like a true Gryffindor. He may be braver than Godric Gryffindor himself. He was the bravest man we ever knew. ♥
All these songs when somebody died/dies really 'hit home', because even though these are'fictional', they're all like really awesome &close (it's hard to explain)
Hm, makes sense, seeing as Snivellus was never bad. (I refuse to call him Snape or Severus. He was still a git to Harry and my two favorite characters, Padfoot and Prongs.)
"Look... at ... me..." he whispered. The green eyes found the black, but after a second, something in the depths of the dark pair seemed to vanish, leaving them fixed, blank, and empty. The hand holding Harry thudded to the floor, and Snape moved no more.
"Look... at ... me..." he whispered. The lgreen eyes found the black, but after a second, something in the depths of the dark pair seemed to vanish, leaving them fixed, blank, and empty. The hand holding Harry thudded to the floor, and Snape moved no more.
@lilylpotter3 I can't bring myself to sing the coward fight back part because he was a Slytherin that died like a Gryffindor. He was the opposite of cowardly. Severus will be missed.♥
@JulietSniper Juliet, please don't start on this like you did on Skype. He was a Slytherin. He was smart like a Ravenclaw. Cunning and sneaky like a Slytherin. But he had bravery that topped all of that! His bravery is what made him die like a Gryffindor. RIP Severus! You will be missed and loved! ♥
@Deathnote201 the song takes place during the HBP right after ***SPOILER**** snape kills dumbledore. it's about the part where harry runs after snape, screaming at him. hope that helps!

It's one thing to kill somebody you don't like, it's another to kill someone who:
Asks you to
Saved you countless times
Trusts you completely
Puts their faith in you even after their death
Is already suffering (though killing him would be the humane thing, it'd still be hard)

True, I guess. You're probably right. But after finding out Snape is a good guy, its hard not to disagree, with the lyrics... Still like the song though, but I still like the lyrics of 'The Bravest Man I Ever Knew' better, just because it says ... er ... good things about Severus. :)

@1REDWEASLEY well the lyrics stand for harrys feelings at that time so i think theyre perfect

I really liked the tune to this song, although since I'm a believer of the whole Snape is a good guy, Gryffindor, instead of Slytherin. I didn't like the lyrics about how his heart is black inside. I think MOM is the best band ever! My favorite band! Still great tune though.
1REDWEASLEY 9 months ago
@1REDWEASLEY I always assumed it said that because this was written from Harry's POV just after Snape and killed Dumbledore - so obviously, Harry isn't going to know everything that he does by the end of the seventh book - you know? xD

@rose1998able NOO! He is not a Gryffindor!! He is a Slytherin! Harry sees him as the hero born a Sylytherin!! Cause that's what Snape is. A hero from Slytherin.
MachoNachoSauce 7 months ago 5
@rose1998able Don't lie! Severus Snape was never a Gryffindor. Not in Harry's eyes, or Lily's, or anyone!
"One of them was a Slytherin. And he was, probably, the bravest man I ever knew."
Severus Snape was a Slytherin to the core. He brought honour back to Slytherin. He was a Slytherin as a Slytherin was meant to be. And that's what Harry saw him as. And that's what Dumbledore saw for so many years. And that's why Lily loved him. Not because he was a Gryffindor. Because he was a Slytherin.
theslytherinroze 7 months ago 112
@theslytherinroze I think Rose only meant that he was a Slytherin who acted like a Gryffindor (because of his incredible bravery.) Not that he was ACTUALLY a Gryffindor.
HiMyNameIsChels 7 months ago
@HiMyNameIsChels He didn't act like a Gryff though. He acted how Slytherins were supposed to act. With ambition, cunning and a survival instinct to rival all others. Bravery is a trait of the Gryffindors, yes, but it doesn't mean he died the death of a Gryff... Snape is a Slytherin... He was never meant to be a Gryff...
(Sorry, I can't help it... I have issues...)
theslytherinroze 7 months ago 3
@theslytherinroze I agree with you. I dont know why that statement above has so many thumbs up. Its almost insulting. Severus would never want to be "seen as a Gryffindor" ESPECIALLY in Harry's eyes. Hah.
KeoniOikawa 7 months ago
@theslytherinroze And bravery and courage isn't necessarily the absence of fear. It's knowing that something else is more important than that fear. And I think that that was what was with Severus. I think he was terrified. But he knew that helping The Chosen One, and more importantly, helping Lily's son... Was far more important than the fear he felt.

@theslytherinroze "Sometimes I think we sort too soon" -Dumbledore
thewolfy7 5 months ago in playlist #2 M.O.M.
@theslytherinroze Well... Lily's love for Severus is debatable. The moment Severus was sorted into Slytherin, Lily became convinced that he would turn evil, and acted accordingly. A true friend she was, flirting with James while he was torturing Severus... I would love to find out how Lily and James would've acted if they had lived and Harry had been sorted to Slytherin.
hpacinstaller 5 months ago
@hpacinstaller Actually, Lily wanted to remain friends I believe. She only split off when he called her a mudblood, and she protected Severus till that day, and even after that she didn't like James torturing him. And she didn't flirt with James until 7th year and by that point Severus was no longer a friend of hers, because of the vicious bastards he hung out with.
theslytherinroze 5 months ago

Why should I be any different?" It was a slip of the tongue that showed how he was thinking of her in that moment, and for her, it showed that he had given into the blood purity and self righteousness of the Dark Lord.
theslytherinroze 4 months ago
@theslytherinroze yes but harry was saying he was brave...and thats the trait of gryffindors!! so thats why she said that!! slytherins are supposed to be selfish and cowardly!!!
Caiwyne 5 months ago
@Caiwyne *Twitch* Okay, that's it. At what point in the entire series did J.K EVER say Slytherins were cowardly? That is the opinion of the majority, but that is not what a Slytherin embodies!
Or perhaps in Slytherin
" You'll make your real friends, Those cunning folks use any means To achieve their ends.
And power-hungry Slytherin loved those of great ambition.
For were there such friends anywhere
As Slytherin and Gryffindor?"
And you just changed the moot...
theslytherinroze 4 months ago
@theslytherinroze alright...i checked and no they aren't cowardly but they wouldn't save their friends if it would hurt them... and they could be cowardly but gryffindors would never be cowardly!!
Caiwyne 4 months ago
@Caiwyne Peter Pettigrew. Your argument is invalid. He was the most pathetic of Gryffindors, a weak cowardly traitor. Courage and bravery are not the absence of fear, but the knowledge that something else is more important than that fear. Slytherins value cunning, ambition, power. Not once does that imply cowardice! Ron has been a coward, he ran away from the horcruxes because he missed his mummy. Peter Pettigrew would rather betray his friends than die for them. Soooo Loyal, aye.
theslytherinroze 4 months ago
@theslytherinroze yes that is true but bravery is one of the traits of gryffindor!! and just because your in it doesn't mean you have to have every single thing right!!
Caiwyne 4 months ago
@theslytherinroze can we just stop fighting.
Caiwyne 4 months ago
@Caiwyne We can, but you portray Slytherin as cowardly traitorous people who help only themselves. Baravery is a trait of Gryffindor, yes, but that does not mean no one else can show that trait. That's like saying that ONLY Ravenclaws can be intelligent. Just saying. I'd like to stop arguing, but not if you don't understand.
theslytherinroze 4 months ago
@theslytherinroze the point of stopping arguing is that we do not keep going at it. and i understand slytherin quite well thank you!
Caiwyne 4 months ago
@rose1998able that's implying that only Gryffindor's can be brave- Slytherins are brave too and Snape WAS a Slytherin, he was the bravest man ever but that doesn't mean he wasn't a Slytherin in Harry's eyes
TheAllAboutYouShow 6 months ago
@rose1998able are you saying a Sytherin is not as good as a Griffindor. That's rather rude. I my self am a Sytherin and though he are on the evil side, that doesn''t mean we can't be brave and do what you consider right if we want to.

@rose1998able no he isn't. what does he tell Albus Severus? "You are named after two of the greatest headmasters of Hogwarts, and one of them was a *Slytherin*, and he was the bravest man I ever knew."
