  • Songs by Muhammad Arief Banyuwangi in 1942 from East Java Indonesia

  • what has happened in indonasia's crackdown ? what has happened in cambodia's killing field ? which society do you prefer and think that you will have more democracy and freedom and human rights ?

  • what? that is Cambodian language... it not Indonesian.

  • @sunchan71 Cambodian language is Khmer

Indonesia language style indonesian, javanese etc

  • we have 700 different languages in Indonesia. and i cant recognized which language she's sung.. i thought it is Cambodian language. she has good voice..:)..Father told me on that time river full with communist victims. it was a scary day..

  • this song is ghost song bcoz dis song 10 millions peoples died in indonesia most of them is comunism party member, but our govt now just claim 2 million died, when i heard or sing this song i feel the ghost haunted me i can feel how hurt the victims of this tragedy fuck indonesian govt..

  • @marstang1000 actually this genjer tastes pretty good, and I've seen it served in restaurants, usually sauteed like when they serve water spinach

  • AHH she has the voice and so much beauty!!!

  • i am indonesian i know this song name is;genjer2;the mean is one kind vegeteval from indonesia.special in jawa island discribe the farmer very hard working in the rice field.in their farm

  • I'm still not sure if that genjer-genjer is actually a connotation word for "general-general", because if you change the word genjer-genjer into "general-general" then it's fit with what communist did to some generals, cut them and cook them in a pit. Sick story.. with a propaganda movie that shown each year (at president Soeharto era), untill now that story is still believed by alot of right winged ppl, especially ppl in TNI (Indonesian army) they still prohibited to sing this song.

  • I wonder that this song is popular in Cambodia too, maybe due to close relation beetween communism parties in southeast asia?, but it's originally from Indonesia. Genjer2 is east javanese language for a kind of plant (your description is accurate). But this song that this girl singing is in Cambodian language, I wonder what genjer2 and this whole song means in Cambodian?

  • gendjer sounds like "gece" which means night in turkish. unnecesarry detail but i wanted to share ^^

  • i think i know why the song sounds very similar to khmer, they replaced all the lyrics except the title i think, I am an Indonesian and I have the lyric, what I hear is not anywhere near the original lyric.

  • History is written by the victors. Indonesian communist party became a scapegoat for somebody else's plan to seize the power from the contemporary government.

  • This song was created to satirize Japanese, who then colonize Indonesia

At that time, the condition of the people more miserable than before,

Even 'GENJER' (Limnocharis flava) weed plants that grow in swamps, which previously consumed by ducks, become a delicious meal for rakyatmiskin who can not afford to buy meat...

Ironically, the Communist Party of Indonesia(Partai Komunis Indonesia/PKI) took the song Genjer-Genjer to increase popularity

  • @bayoe68may This song, which describes the suffering of the villagers, became one of propaganda and favorite songs sung on various occasions. As a result people began to associate this song as a "song of the PKI".

  • This song originally in OSING language, not Javanese or indonesian language..

Osing ethnic live in Banyuwangi,East Java,Indonesia...

It language is like Javanese..but diferent...

phrase 'NONG KEDOKAN'(look in Genjer-genjer lyric)..is Osing Language...

Javanese dont use NONG(mean IN/ON,english)...but they use NING...

phrase ULIH SAK TENONG MUNGKUR SEDOT SING TOLEH TOLEH...(Osing) OLEH SAK WAKUL MUNGKUR MULIH ORA TOLEH TOLEH..(Javanese)

  • @PipitPhoenix yup...the song lyrics created by M.Arif, Osingnese artist, in 1942....

when first time i ear Genjer-genjer song...i can guest that its not Javanese language...
