Also you shouldn't boil your wort with the lid on because it will cause sulphur compounds to build up instead of escaping and harm the taste of the finished product

in the states you are allowed to brew 100 gallons per household. If you are married your spouse can also brew 100 gallons. But who is going to know if you make more? Distilling liquor is illegal though.

it is cool once you get a good pipeline of beers going. It does kinda suck until you get going. The trick is to brew 2 or 3 batches at once. Drink good commercial beer while you wait, then rack your three batches giving you the good pipeline. They you can brew while you drink your own beer. But if you only drink/buy swill its understandable why you wouldnt waste your time to brew your own. cheers!

Brewing beer is well worth it and cheaper than store beer. It also comes with the pleasure of being able to craft your own goods

My friends and I brew our own beer, and we get smashed at each others houses for the cost of some hops and water.

I agree its not for everyone. Not everyone can be bothered going through the process.

I guess you have to ask yourself: If you're not creating anything of value, then "wtf" do you add to society?
