  • Ripley Scott?

  • Oh no, Ridley ... 3D just isn't what it's cracked up to be. Don't tell us it is.

  • "...there may be two...". Movie=ruined

  • Conceived as a prequel to Scott's 1979 science fiction horror film Alien, rewrites of Spaihts' script by Lindelof developed a separate story that precedes the events of Alien, but which is not directly connected to the films in the Alien franchise. According to Scott, though the film shares "strands of Alien's DNA, so to speak", Prometheus will explore its own mythology and universe.

  • is he saying there is no alien aliens in this movie

  • Man its been great for sci-fi horror lately

first a prequel to The Thing now a prequel to freakin Alien!!

    awsome...pure awsome

  • they're called synthetics!!!

  • That line, "you're not doin' it with a lot of of cg..." just sold me. Thank you so much Ridley. I'm sick to death of fake cg dominating the screen. And with Ridley's directing skills, the practical effects will look so natural and fluid.

  • I want to know where the aliens come from, who created the Xenomorph race? How did they get eggs on that ship?

  • @renegadeexpress1983 you will find out very soon

  • Asking Ridley about Blade Runner is like asking Ringo about The Beatles. There is nothing more to add to the conversation, but people can't help themselves.

  • 3D blah blah, real sets blah blah blah. i just hope they don't forget one of the most important things for this movie and thats nailing the music like the first two films did, it needs to be eary, scary, very serious and i really hope they've spared no expense on a top orchestra and conducter.

  • @MJDT11

there was no music at all in alien each time when the creature appeared on screen. just the loud screeching sound effects. but yeah the first two films have amazing soundtracks. alien 3 had an amazing soundtrack but unfortunately it picked the wrong film to be broadcasted on lol

  • he's the man!

  • the bald guy in glasses thinks he's a comedian? who is this clown? his jokes are THE worst, and he fucked up the whole interview with his lame attempts at jokes

  • @robocong7420 i liked scott's answer.made a cunt out of him

  • I love there are still few directors (usually "old school" directors) who prefers to build a set for the scene instead cgi effects. That's amazing. I'm not saying that what Cameron did on Avatar is bad, because it's definitely not, but somewhere between all these cgi effects and playing with 3D you lose truly magic of cinematography. Thank you Mr. Scott that you just accepting modern technologies but not adopting. Great honor would be to watch your next masterpiece.

  • @laserboyproduction Yeah, I like directors who prefer building the set to CGI, like Christopher Nolan did for Inception!

  • Just fuck 3D,I am eager to see the movie, the plot and the story it has to tell.It is gonna be great WELL DONE RIPLEY

  • Hope the xenomorphs are in this movie :)

  • PG rating? Nah fuck that, it's going to be shit

  • Noomi Rapace!!

  • As much as I really LOVE Ridley Scott and his work, I still don't agree with the 3D part...But I do believe that he is one of VERY FEW directors who can handle 3D well...

  • @MrDavidFILM I feel the same way. 3D is a cheap (not monetarily, of course), overused gimmick that is used haphazardly. A scary-as-shit Ridley Scott film is one of the few films that is actually fit to utilize 3D technology.

Still...I get along just fine with 2D. Call me old-fashioned.

  • @JaminKoehn Actually, 3D is also old fashion...Modern 3D came with Avatar, yes...But 3D in general came for the 1st time in the 50s but was later forgotten (propably because of the release of films like Jaws and Star Wars)...Yet 2D that has been around ever since the start is still pop-culture of modern cinema...The only thing that does hold out still today are VFX, because they actually can help the story of a film, while #D can't.

  • @MrDavidFILM Yeah, I know it's been around for a while. I remember the glasses with the red and blue lens'. Of course, back then, it was more of a novelty.

  • @MrDavidFILM Let me chime in here, I experienced real 3d (non red and blues), in 1988 at Walt Disney World. I rmember some little girl blowing dandilions seeds into the audience. I will never forget actually seeing those things fly my way, past my head. About red and blue glasses, Peter Jackson's new behind the scenes look at the 3D has 2 "conception" artists, sitting side by side, each drawing, one with a blue pencil, the other red. They show you the final pic and it's 7 layers deep!

  • @stargroove4 Yes. I have seen 3D movies as well, and yes, some things are mind blowing....But the things that annoys me is the fact that Hollywood goes apeshit over 3D and thinks for themselves: "Hey, if we make our god-aful-films in 3D they will automatically be a bit better" Well fuck you (Hollywood-talk, not you of course) SFX is just a tool to provide and enhance the story. That's the reason I have grown tired of 3D. My advice is to see movies in IMAX (look at Chistopher Nolan).

  • WHO THE FUCK NEVER ASK YOURSELF: WHAT FUCK IS THE SPACE JOCKEY?

  • Now all we need is a Game !

  • Ridley sure knows how to cast. They seem genuinely proud and excited to be part of this movie. I can't wait. Great fucking cast!

  • I'm so glad that Ridley Scott is doing this film the old fashioned way; minimum SFX, and filming in actual built environments.

  • I bet Michael Fassbender is an android...

  • @zimonslot This has been confirmed.

  • Only thing I'm disappointed about is the rating on this film I was hoping for an epic sci fi that would shock me in the ways that alien shocked me when I watched it with my dad all those years ago

  • He's pure genius. Relying on his artistic side rather than a shitty movie filled with CGI makes me excited already. I think it will keep the gritty, raw feeling of the first Alien. I'm just stoked.

  • /watch?v=ElLifUX9yBw

  • He looks and gets around awesome for a guy who is 74 years old.

  • @PREDAL1ENWARRIOR Holy shit he's 74? You're right, he's pretty on the ball too.

  • @PREDAL1ENWARRIOR 74? omg wow

  • @PREDAL1ENWARRIOR

That's why I PRAY that he doesn't die before finishing Prometheus and the Blade Runner sequel.

  • @PREDAL1ENWARRIOR Shit,I'd say he's 20 years younger.

  • just saw the trailer

  • This is going to be sweet!! Ridley, Charlize Theron and Noomi the best

  • There will not be xenomorph this film, but there is alien life and if you look at the material online now it will include the derelect ship. Search hard and you'll find it. Also, research 'urns' in the original alien storyline and check out the chamber of urns in the production stills. This is definitely in the alien universe whether they say it is or not.

  • i wanna know what the hell that big skeleton was in alien

  • I cannot believe PROMETHEUS is going to be a PG-13. Absolutely shocking and of course it is going to inhibit Ridley! The Alien Franchise has been R rated all along so why change it? The reason ALIEN is such a brilliant film was because they could do the things that R rated films permit them to. It looks like this one is going to be watered down and family friendly.....and it is an Alien film!!! What a load of crap.

  • If the last 8 minutes will make the connection I hope it ends like this.: "Shot from distance, dark and foggy environment..lightining bolts sparkling at the horizon.sky..background score a bit Jerry goldschmidt like...camera moves slowly landscaping the area...and there from distance we see three bright lights coming from the distant hills moving towards the ship crashlanded on the planet Acheron" .....here comes the crescendo....and movie finishes!!!

  • @renatoavatarian

or after the prometheus and it's surviving crew escape the spacejockey planet, a spacejockey on it's space craft chaces after them with the intent of unleashing a biological weapon on our planet in revenge. the ending shot moves to the bottom of the spacecraft where the alien eggs are revealed. the last few seconds of the film show one of the eggs slowly opening.

I GUARANTEE YOU THIS WILL HAPPEN

  • Space Jockey.

  • A film made by Ridley Scott, in the Alien universe, starring Charlize Theron.

    2012 is going to rock.

  • @SlaveExplosion you forgot Charlize Theron doing naked pushups :)

  • Eh, too bad they sent Ridley Scott to make an Aliens prequel and not let it be R. I'm not saying a movie has to be rated R to be good, but a space jockey biotech storyline needs at least a little bit of disturbing body horror to be a genuine Ridley Scott Alien (non) prequel.

  • @plantcochlea I hate how people force movies that should be rated R to be PG etc, I know it is less money but rather have a full movie than a watered down one :(

  • He is right about the 3D being expensive. At one point it was cheaper but today the VFX houses charge soooooo much that you are better off building most sets and sparingly using it and or using it for those really difficult and over the top stuff. You'd still be quite crazy NOT to use CGI today if you have the ability to use it.

  • I wish I could watch Alien for the first time again. Aliens as well. The rest, in my opinion, are not as great. Alien 3 was pretty good, though.

  • I've always loved the set design in Alien and Blade Runner, and just the general feel of the World/Universe. From the corridors of the Nostromo, to Deckard's apartment, everywhere shares the same believable quality.

I wonder if Syd Mead is involved in Prometheus any way?

Anyway, i'm more excited that Ridley Scott is directing a movie set in the same Universe, than I am at the thought of a new Alien movie.

I can appreciate the sequels for their merits, but they never felt like the same place.

  • Love the plug for the movie "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" and the story of how Ridley got his girl Noomi Rapace.

  • Fucking fox studios wanting to make a movie for 12 year olds. They risk fucking up a prequel to one of history's most epic movies, just to get their fucking money.

  • PG 13!!! DONT FUCK WITH ME SCOTT!

  • ridley scott is a terribel actor. great director

  • this movie is ready?

  • Is that Damon Lindelof asking the questions?

  • The master finally returns to the genre.:D

  • So it's from the same universe but isn't related to the alien film's at all, meaning no xenomorph's, no facehuggers, nothing.

Well. Fuck this shit. Not even going to bother paying my hard-earned money on this pile of dissapointing shit that festered into high hopes only to come crashing down in one fell swoop.

  • @kalawaki

so in your opinion a film is only worth watching if it has "xenomorph's", "facehuggers" or something similar ?

  • @StarSpawn06 I'm a fan of the Alien films.

    This isn't an Alien film.

    /argument.

  • @kalawaki WAHHHH WAHHHH!

  • @kalawaki

it's about the creatures that created the alien (or Xenomorph) and who also terraformed this planet and planted the seeds to life. the crew of the prometheus go to make first contact but obviously they'll find something else. for over 30 years Ridley has always wanted to make a film explaining the spacejockey creature and to explain how Wayland knew about the crashed space craft and why they sent the nostromo to LV426. So it sets Alien in motion

  • @Glaswegianmark do you want to say PROMETHEUS is not prequel to ALIEN?

  • @AVPionut44USCM

ridley says it isnt but has strands of alien dna lol. makes no sense. but if it's set before the first Alien then it's a prequel. but hwo knows right? We'll just have to wait till june

  • @Glaswegianmark Yes we must to wait to see the movie.

  • @Glaswegianmark If this film turns out to be good, fans of the series will finally have a solid trilogy that they can sit back and enjoy. I hope Scott hasn't lost a step. My biggest fear is that this could wind up being Kingdom of the Crystal Skull or the Star Wars prequels. My last Ridley Scott film I saw was Gladiator, but I really enjoyed that one. Alot of the set design looks man made too, Not CGI. Its aesthetic approach reminded me of "Moon" by Duncan Jones.

  • @jstephenj

yeah me too. I'm putting 100% faith into this film and that is something i do not do with 21st century films.

  • @AVPionut44USCM well, according to RS, it takes place before Alien but won't necessarily play with the "ALIEN" series storyline. It's its own standalone movie.

  • @Glaswegianmark whats the nostromo? and what crashed space craft?

  • @Comiester The Nostromo was the ship that Ripley's crew was inside in the first Alien movie. The crashed space craft is the derelict space craft tjat Ripley's crew and the colonist find the eggs in the first two Alien movies.

  • @Glaswegianmark Weyland-Yutani didn't know about LV 426 before the beacon signal transmitted by the derelict ship was stumbled upon Nostromo. You screwed up your facts. :)

  • @23WhiteFlag

how do you explain special order 936 which was to bring back lifeform. so they did know about something. but you know. i could be wrong :D. im just glad this film isnt going to your standard prequel and is going to be original.

but hey least I'm not an AVP fanboy who is determined those shitty films were connected.

  • @Glaswegianmark Special order was made after the company got the first clue about the xenomorph,by Ash, the android. Not before. :)

  • PG-13,3D = Wald Disney film...........

  • its not an ALIEN film you guys, just set in the same universe

  • IF RIDLEY USES 3D IT DEPENDS HOW HE APPLYS IT TO HIS WORK.I STILL HAVE GREAT HOPE FOR THIS FILM.

  • I dont understand why its called prometheus is it about greek mythology or somethin??

  • @DrDR3W98 If you understand the story of Prometheus then you might know what that means rather than thinking it's actually related to Greek Mythology, it's more related to the concept the Prometheus Myth sets out... Prometheus (Greek Προμηθεύς, "forethought")[1] is a Titan, the son of Iapetus and Themis, and brother to Atlas, Epimetheus and Menoetius. He was a champion of mankind, known for his wily intelligence, who stole fire from Zeus and gave it to mortals.

  • PG-13 alien movies are supposed to be raw R-rated

  • "Ridley Scott reported that he is shooting both PG-13 and R-rated cuts of the film to be submitted to Fox for review when the film is finalized"

LETS HOPE HE TELLS THEM TO FUCK OFF AND DOES RATED R

  • @phunktup Has to be rated R

  • @phunktup I don't think he'll do the Pg-13 one anyway, it's probably just to appease the production company or something, all of Scott's prior sci-fi films have been heavy R ratings, plus most of his other stuff have been R too, although his last Robin Hood one was Pg-13 and it was a little underwhelming because of it.

  • ridley always said he would returned to sci-fi whe he would have a real big script, well now he has returned, let's see the history, the writing, i'm more anxious to see the history that the 3 D and all these fucking bullshits, i guess it will have a lot of effects but i trust ridley, I HAVE TO DO IT!.....

  • 3d adds NOTHING to the experiance, its a fucking gimmick, instead of companys trying to find the next big thing, how about actualy improve what you already have, the studios got ridley fucking scot and the alien franchise HE created why not actualy pay the fans and the man who created it the respect they deserve and give ridley all the support he needs to create another masterpiece instead of inhibiting creativity. greed, utterly disgusting greed.

  • PG13! how fuckin lame arse is that! Ridley is such a studio whore and needs to find his balls like back in the day

  • Fuck 3D Fuck Pg 13

  • @18decman Well lucky you, after the cinematic run you can watch it in 2D *and* R-rated for all eternity. So what is the problem really?

  • God I'm sick of 3D lol.

  • Archaeological digs, alien intervention in human affairs - Scott likes fellow Geordie Paul W.S. Anderson's AvP more than he lets on...

  • while Empire stikes back, Beneath the planet of the apes etc were fun, sequels and prequels are just an attempt to cash in, I am not anticipating this as wow a new alien movie, but as HOLY FUCK A NEW RIDLEY SCOTT SCI FI, I hope he ignores the canon from ALIENS onwards, Giger originally designed the alien with a complete life cycle, no stupid queen, respect to Stan Winston and Cameron for the design and fun film but, ALIEN didn't need ALIENS, but ALIENS needed ALIEN, they were a biological weapon

  • PLEASE RIDLEY ... NO PG13 !!!

  • I think Ridley Scott is wise to use CGI and real sets in the exact quantities when and where they are needed in order to produce a shocking and convincing Alien prequel for us fans, it just wouldn't make any sense to shoot completly in one of the two bunch of filming techniques. Just take a look at some of his other amazing movies, for example Gladiator: There were many actual sets but also amazing digital matte paintings and some computer generated effects, and it is just amazing...

  • You see, this business is filled to the brim with unrealistic motherfuckers. Motherfuckers who thought their ass would age like wine. If you mean it turns to vinegar... it does. If you mean it gets better with age... it don't.

  • What if he makes G, PG, PG-13, and R rated versions of the movie

  • It makes me happy that Ridley admires David Attenborough :)

  • @Gnargonaut two dudes!

  • @Gnargonaut How can you not love David Attenborough

  • Prometheus will be about the culture to which the pilot belongs that we glimpse in Alien in the ship that holds the eggs.

  • I'm very exited. But somebody please please please please PLEASE tell me how thing is related to alien in any way.

  • @hypershanick Prometheus is supposed to be the prequel of the story in which the previous events happen and explains where do the space jockey and the xenomorphs come from and why are they in the planetoid. I've also read in many blogs that it is related with an attempt of the alien civilization to terraform a planet and using the xenomorphs as bilogical weapons :)

  • @feedme54 Philistine. Get the fuck out of here.

  • So if its PG13 doesn't that mean it won't be scary.... WTF THIS MAKE ME ANGRY!!!! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

  • @Billywask He is shooting a PG-13 cut and an R rated cut

  • @SupremeCommander85 K good...

  • Comment removed

  • @Billywask It's that exact backwards thinking that makes shitty films my friend. EVERYONE knows, practical is always better whether it's in 3D or 2D. He has always preferred actual sets vs. green screen.

  • @ezgoo Say that to James Cameron. CGI is just a tool, like models and stage sets. The trick is to know which is best suited for the job at hand. Lord of the Rings mixed it up pretty good in a sucessful maner, and so can Ridely.

  • @ezgoo yeah i am against cgi or any of that garbage, im all for sets and no 3d, 3d movies are just a waste of money so they can charge us $5 more dollars for a movie where you wear annoying glasses that make your eyes hurt after wearing them for 2 hours.

  • @Billywask i don't care if it is 3d or cgi i'm glad that Ridley Scott is back doing the next Alien film the guys who AvP fucked shit up. I'm looking forward to see this movie.

  • @lovejen01

The alien franchise was allready fucked up in Alien 3 and don't even get me started on Alien Erection

  • @navylaks2 i do think with Scott it will come back and make up for AvP and the 4th one. The third one i suggest you watch the Special Edition before passing any judgement.

  • @lovejen01

Oh i've seen them both and although Special edition makes more sense it's still pretty bad for an alien film.

The thing about it is had it been a film about Sigorney Weaver just being in a psychotic prison with no alien, it would actually have been quite interesting.

now Alien Erection i don't know what the fuck happened there and of course Paul Vs Anderson had to do AVP:(

  • @navylaks2 Paul Anderson what do expect, my opinion overrated director.

  • @lovejen01

You're damn right he's a fucking shit director

I want to beat the crap out of that idiot for what he did to Resident Evil

  • @navylaks2 ???

  • @Billywask Its actually a lot cheaper to shoot sets in steroscopic (3D) then doing cgi that way.

  • @Billywask

Lol don't talk shit about shit you've no clue about.

  • I need help with this. Will this be tied to the Alien franchise and at the same time be its own movie? Just lost if this is truly a prequel or not.

  • @Arojas83 the studio/ridley says it's not directly tied to the alien franchise. I think it has its tentacles in it prequel wise. The footage we saw looks like the interior Alien sets.

  • @Arojas83 From the information we have it is clear that is IS set in the Alien universe, but it's not about the Alien monster. It is instead about the so called Space Jockey race from the first movie, which makes sense as we have seen the Aliens done to death and the Jockeys have been left completely unexplored. Fassbender has confirmed this.

In a way that makes the Alien franchise sort of a spin-off from this story, which is to be much more epic in scope.

  • GOOD! NO FUCKING CG! THANK GOD!

3D i dont mind, but CG gets played out fast and it takes away from the realism.

  • I was so mad I missed this panel

  • FYI folks. Let's be clear about two things. He's shooting IN 3D (native) and he has ALWAYS shot for both R and PG-13 ratings. So have no fear, there will be a cut out there for everyone!

  • the guy with the microphone needs it shoved up his ass ...I wish Ridley had someone more intelligent asking the questions.

  • @tarasvoice these are actually much better questions then we are usually used to in Hall H. They actually had a moderator who knew about the project.

  • @ezgoo I believe the moderator is one of the writers of PROMETHEUS, Damon Lindelof.

  • @tarasvoice I think that guy is Damon Lindelof, the writer or the "script corrector". But totally agree, the questions are very...well, you know what I mean... cheers!

  • IDIOT...ACTUALLY HAS BEEN....32 YEARS SINCE THE FIRTS ALIEN AND 29 SINCE BLADE RUNNER!!

  • yeah i'm worried about the rating

  • NO mentioning of Idris Elba?...he's a fucking beast as an actor.

  • @Porly62 maybe he's fairly minor like many captains in the alien series....certainly a good cast though...

  • @Porly62 Where's Wallace, String?! Where the fuck is Wallace?!

  • who could dislike this....i dont understand that.

  • If I have to wait a year and half or 2 for the directors cut because its a 12A Im nver going to the cinema again.

  • Noami? I thought the girl from Tron Legacy was going to be in Prometheus

  • @magnum1165

As movie fans we're lucky Scott went with Noomi Rapace, Olivia Wilde from Tron Legacy can't act.

  • @captain07234 well I have to agree, I've watched the entire girl with the dragon tattoo trilogy and she is a great actor so she was a good choice for a female character

  • @magnum1165 I expect Ridley did not want to be to predictable as so many directors are these days by just using the casts from other movies of the same genre

  • Why making such a big fuss over 3D??? If you hate 3D, just watch in 2D. Problem solved.

  • @kuroryuzaki28 I wish I could but it does not work for me, unequal vision...but you still need the glasses in the cinema otherwise it looks shit

  • @SROCeallaigh Have you been to a cinema? You can choose to watch either 3D and 2D version of a movie. And yes, 2D version has equal visions. Watching 3D without glasses isn't 2D, it's plain stupidity.

  • @kuroryuzaki28 I only went once, to Thor, because 3D did seem like the only option...and yeah, even for people it does not work with, the glasses needed to be worn because of the 'layers' and such...

  • @SROCeallaigh You mean people still need to wear glasses in order to watch 2D movies??? WTH is going on???

  • @kuroryuzaki28 I don't know...this was in an Odeon cinema in England and I'm pretty sure that 3D was the only option...I am not sure if that's always the case with 3D films over here

  • @SROCeallaigh That's too bad. Since 3D movies must first be processed from 2D movies, by right both should be available in the cinema.

  • @kuroryuzaki28 I don't know if that's true...this is probably one that was filmed in 3D, as many are now...whereas other ones, which do not look as good apparently, are simply concerted from films made in 2D originally (I think this was the case with the clash of the titans remake for example)

  • Comment removed

  • fox screw this film

  • I'd have rathered Ridley stood his ground and said R rating to the studio. If they didn't comply, he could walk away. Let Fox get some crappy director to direct a piece of shit film that no one would watch. Given the now lack of Alien xenomorphs in this new prequel, and the lack of R rating, and the 3D bullshit, I think I'll pass. Pity.

  • What the hell.... 3D? I'm fine with the PG-13 as long as they can pull it off, I would be more happy with R, but as long as they pull it off, I am fine with PG-13. But really 3D? Fuck 3D.

  • @tigurt just dont see it in 3d then lmaoo

  • I would love to see the entire presentation. I hope fox does something soon to wet my tastes.

  • Think I will wait for the director's cut, FOX are money grabbers. You don't hire an artist and then tell him how to paint.

  • *gore lol sorry

  • A horror/science fiction movie doesn't have to be gory to be good. In my opinion fire just makes ppl sick instead if giving that sense of suspense. But hey ..... it's Ryley Scott, he wont disappoint!!!! I hope lol
