its a double clutch on the S....... its a stadard Automatic on the normal one, for a Maserati dealer i would presume you would know more about your car !
@rapandrnb The S was only available with the paddle-shifted manual for the 2009 model year in the US. After that only the ZF Automatic is available for both the 4.7L S and 4.2L standard trim cars. The paddle-shifted manual is still available internationally, just not in the US.
And you're right it is technically a double-clutch, but it's not a double like the DSG Ferrari is putting in the 458 - it's multiple plates stacked like a motorcycle clutch, vs dual-clutch \ dual-gearsets in the DSGs.
Definitely one of my fav cars. But I think the standard gt and gt s auto look a bit nicer - cleaner. I'm not a fan of the sideskirts or black headlamps on the s. But hey if I paid as much money as this costs i'm sure the dealer wouldn't mind swapping the headlamps and skirts from a standard gt ;)
@schwagier It's not instantaneous like the dual-clutch systems can be, but shift time under hard acceleration in MC-Shift mode is around 100ms - similar to the 599. It depends a lot on what setting the car is in, and how hard you are driving it. If you are under light throttle, and shifting at low RPM's, the shift speeds are much slower - up to 1+ seconds. If you are at high to full throttle and shifting near redline, they snap off far far faster.
@schwagier The MC Shift gearbox in the video was only available in the US in 2009, but continues to be available internationally. In the Automatic it's a ZF 6-speed mounted to the engine, vs the rear-mounted transaxle. This shifts weight balance to 51% rear from 53% rear.
The 4.7 S GT's gearbox has slightly more aggressive software from the 4.2 cars, and if you opt for the MC Sportline add-ons, there is an additional more aggressive program in that as well.
@schwagier the shift is instant. u get jerked forward slightly when you shift. well.... at least that was my experience on a 360 modena. if u think about it, it is safer because u arent taking your hand of the well at 300kph or about 190kph.
@Mr123camaroz28 The shifts are actually faster than the Ferrari 360 which clocks around 200-250ms (dependent on year \ software); the 360cs was like 150-180ms, whereas the Maserati with MC-Shift, f430, and 599 GTB are around 60ms.
The Maserati's computer is actually overlapping the engagement of the next gear with the disengagement of the current gear to speed up shifts. The move to dual-clutch gearboxes has eliminated this need for overlap by separating the even and odd gearsets.
I must say i'm disappointed by the sound. I was expecting to hear armageddon under the hood but was surprised to hear a Ford Mustang GT in a designer suit~!!!
All of the S model Maserati's have a 4.7L V8 as opposed to the stock 4.2L.
The 4.2 was originally designed in cooperation with Ferrari, and is the basis for the engine in the F430, and the upcoming 458 Italia and to this day is hand-built in Ferrari's factory.
This engine was also used in the Alfa 8C Competizione.
Differences in bore, compression, flat-plane vs offset crank, pistons, and bolt-on materials makeup the bulk of the variations between engine lines for each manufacturer.
The base 4.2L cars don't have a badge - only the models with the 4.7L have them - so every GT-S, and every Quattroporte S will have the badge by default.
The car in this video is a GT-S with the paddle-shifted manual, and was only built for one year - our dealership only got this particular car so it's pretty rare.
You can now order the GranTurismo in either a 4.2 or the 4.7 S trim, but only with the ZF automatic transmission.
It has more front-curb clearance than something like the Gallardo with the front-end lifted. Plus if you have skyhook (adaptive suspension), you can just take it out of sport mode - and it will soften the ride up quite a bit. A valuable feature for our Minnesota roads in the Spring.
The GT-S version with the paddle-shifted gearbox was a limited production model run for early 2009. This was followed by a limited production run of GT-S Automatics, which are nearly sold out nationwide.
The GT-S has a 4.7 L V8 with nearly straight-through exhaust in Sport mode, and with the manual transmission revs to over 7000 rpm.
The standard Gran Turismo has a 4.2L, and significantly quieter exhaust, paired with a ZF automatic transmission. Even with Tubi exhaust the 4.2L is quieter.
is any gts going to come with MC paddle shift 2010? and ?L/100 KM? service charge? I really want to get one. actually i can afford a gts. i just wanted to know if i can use it as a everyday driving car.

is the flappy paddle gearbox response immediate? i mean - do you feel it actually changes gears when you touch the paddles?
