  • I always love the style of the 60s group, they always look awesome to me compare with todays band. I really like this performance.

  • Some songs never age..

  • Forget Forrest Gump, this song is one of the best songs ever written, period. What could these guys be thinking to write such a great song? Man, I think evenytime I hear this song. Imagine thinking because a song opened up a door for you to do something beside just stand there like a rock on a riverbank.

  • I can't help but wonder how the bands of the first half of th 60's could sing in harmony without using monitors that had not been invented yet onstage.

  • Joey Ramone @ :49

  • I'm a mod in 2011...that is all!

  • "I'm 15" yeah right(lol)!'REAL' music is whatever you make it, it was the 'REAL' music 'ARSE' that these people made in the 70's that made 'PUNK' happen. If you don't like 'RAP' don't listen to it, go & listen to 'OPERA'!

  • I love the little girl singing along!

  • @GnonplussedGnome So do I.....I think it's cause she's rocking out!

  • Sounds better auto tuned

  • why can t they make awesome heads of hair like these today?

why can t they make awesome music like this today?

  • (-:

  • @BenKarbie This is not a Wikipedia quote. This is a paraphrasing of what is on a Wikipedia page. Wikipedia quote:"The Byrds instead quickly recorded "Turn! Turn! Turn!", a Pete Seeger adaptation of a traditional melody, with some lyrics taken directly from the Biblical book of Ecclesiastes, and the song became the group's second US #1 single, also headlining their second album (also titled Turn! Turn! Turn!)." If you care to state info about the song please do so with out it being misleading.

  • Why does everyone know this song. The music was written by Pete Seeger, and recorded long before this. Besides Pete Seeger's sounds better. These guys sound a little bit like the Beatles.

  • @4444Werty Nobody is claiming Jimmy McGuin wrote this song. In fact most of the early Byrd hits were written by other song writers. Which takes nothing from their talent.

  • @4444Werty I don't think they sound like the Beatles, but even if they did how is that bad?

  • @slpplexi1969 They have a Beatles-ish sounding instrumentally, but rather than that pretty Byrds, and you're right it's not bad.

  • \o/ no autotuned crap. This is real music

  • Great live version and a change from the usual "Ed Sullivan" clip; regards.

  • 1:00 crosby or leo messi?

  • I'm 15 years old and it's annoying to hear other kids my age listen to rap when there is REAL music like this out there.

  • Definitely live ..... and awful.

  • the harmonized vocals bring tears to my eyes. love them

  • nice more Gene less Roger in the vocals..

  • I would pay $200 for those sunglasses.

  • This is still, after being together almost 20yrs, 'Our Song' <3

Nowadays, amongst others, one of 'Our Songs' is....'Killing in the name of' by 'Rage Against the Machine'! =) xxx

  • David is the best!

  • Love the Rickenbacker 12-string, the vocals seem a little flat though.

  • @videomaniac108 It was live not lip synched so with that in mind I thought pretty good, way better than any band could do these days.

  • now thats how you swing a tamb!

  • If it sounds like they are a little unsure and struggling somewhat consider that the song has many awkward aspects and lacks -except in the chorus- the preferred antecedent consequent phrasings of popular music. 6/8 may have been a better meter choice for the Biblical words to align with but that's moot now.

  • are they draggin juuust a bit here in the beginning>> maybe it was time for a break hmm awesome rendition of classic verse whatever the case 5*****

  • Everyone was so much more beautiful then, especially the ladies

  • SUPERchannel! that's awesome :D

  • You dont see kids that into music anymore :/

  • @blazeablunt4200 Well only if you count Justin Beiber, which isn't music.

  • @blazeablunt4200 im a kid and i love justin bieber, its legit music....

nah just kidding ahah, i love this.

  • @HELLJEFE Good!

  • I watched the Bio of David Crosby yesterday and had to see this video with him as part of the group. It's hard to believe its the same guy as now.

  • Pete Seeger - a great musician and a prescient writer - his lyrics foreshadowing the 60's when beautiful women singing his songs would captivate the youth of the world and forge an anti-war movement.

"Turn! Turn! Turn! is a song adapted almost entirely from the Book of Ecclesiastes in the Bible & put to music by Pete Seeger in 1959. Seeger wrote the refrain "turn, turn, turn" and the phrase that was the whole purpose of the song: "I swear it's not too late."

  • I notice that the nice shot of the little girls singing to the song kind of got ruined by people walking around. Then I got thinking, What kind of a horse's ass starts wandering around while one of the great songs of the Twentieth Century is being performed live?

Possibly the same people who clicked the "dislike" button.

    .

  • Was this the same show where they played Friday?

  • Think about how many pop singers and pop songs will be less than a memory when people are still listening to this masterpiece 1000 years from now.

When people insert their positronic music cubes into their cerebral cortex in the year 3050 "Turn, Turn, Turn" will still play.

  • Crosby screwed this group over more than anyone else!!!!!

  • portable computer speakers (1 inch) are like the transistor radios that our father gave us, with tiny monoaural earphone and a leather cover.

the metallic dual string sound and sustain resembles balalaika

in continuous warble like pipes or bells.

this music came as i was 8, in the back of an air conditioned car in houston. these were kids, but we thought of them as elders or wise persons.

they were. some of these people were the first radio voices other than TV that millions heard.

  • I always considered this one of the top ten greatest songs of all time...the tune...the lyrics and the great harmony...thank you Byrds!

  • Awesome band and great live video from back in the day!

  • Miking was amazing, especially for a live performance. You can distinguish all the individual voices, which I've never heard before even on their studio work.

  • Wow, a live performance for TV. Very unusual, a bit brave, and a somewhat different sound to the song this way, especially the vocals.

  • Dude This is GREAT! How often do you see bands in the 60's actually playing live on a show???? Byrds rock

  • Gene is rocking the shit out of that tambourine.

  • Thanks Man,Great track..good to see pre-teens grooving to some non Katy Perry bullshit too!Grooving to some proper music:)

  • when i think of the byrds, i do not think of 10 year old girl fans...

  • @fanzappa

Maybe you should broaden your horizons

  • @LTF6161 regarding what? explain...(10y/o girls?) in general, r&r fans are described as male.

  • @fanzappa

Not in the mid-sixties beginning with the Beatles. Girls went nuts for boy bands with long hair. And since when do girls not like pop-rock anyway?

  • 3 ASSHOLES...

  • old school...guitars right into the amps. mcguin did have a compressor built into the ric, though.

  • is better this ,the original

  • @topsecret98 WHAT!?!?

  • Hmmm... still prefer the version with Judy Collins and Pete Seeger duetting.

  • cheers man.love it so much, never seen this video before, much love and many thanks

  • Finally I found it! My ears suffered many years, but today is a day of hope

  • The Byrds, The Beatles and The Who were and still are my fav bands.

  • I knew that skinny jeans , semi mullets and good bass riffs would eventually come back.

  • The PACE is excellent in this version, the boys are so young.

  • Crosby's harmony is great...makes a difference live.

  • David Crosby looks cute without the moustash here ha ha!

  • hottie @ 2:30

  • 3 Gaga or Bieber fans!

  • Great lyrics, performers who can play and sing, still sounds good after all these years. Don't think the same will be said about much of today's popular music.

  • Beats 99 per cent off the crap music nowadays

  • The guitarist is so great.

  • The little blonde girl is so cute. Gene Clark such a hottie!!! RIP!

  • me encantan

  • per non dimenticare gli anni passati.W the byrds

  • @giulianocavallaro certo che il look alla Beatles non gli mancava, e non erano i soli, pero' la canzone è bella...

  • Great live version

  • That little blonde girl around 0:44 is absolutely adorable. She's totally so into it. She must be only 8 years old and the lyrics to this song is much too complex for her but not only is she singing along to it, the expression on her face is priceless.

  • @halea41

    yup, agree. fantastic performance

  • @halea41 no she's just dumb!

  • si, q bueno q pienses asi, jajaja.

  • The guy with the tambourine looks kind of like John Lennon.

  • Beautiful song, once a female teacher wrote me down these lyrics & gave them me as a farewell gift.

  • Ecclesiastes 3:1-15 The bible will influence everyone

  • @marywages Some in the best of ways, many in the worst of ways.

  • @marywages yeah maybe, maybe not BUT theres only 2 popular songs that use quotes from the bible: this and rivers of babylon! JUST 2!!!

  • @dazzini82 Depends on what you mean by popular. Sis Janet Mead had a hit in the early 70s with the Lord's Prayer in a pop/rock setting. Also the soundtracks to Godspell and JC Superstar had scriptural songs. Probably others

  • r.i.p gene clark and his brother can't recall 1st name

  • 60's girls are always hot

  • An awesome tune with one of the best vocal bands of all times. THE BYRDS!!!

  • a time for peace, i swear its not too late

  • An interesting thing to do is play the Byrds at this time, the Beatles of the same period (Rubber Soul) and the Searchers (yes, believe it or not) at the same period. Talk about convergence....

  • BEAUTIFUL.........

  • see: Os velhos da montanha

  • This is such a pretty song, and beautiful harmony.

  • wasnt david crosby in the bryds?

  • @jaydee624: Dude, he's in this video. Second from left, playing guitar.

  • The singing is live and Gene's mic is a bit too loud in the mix. It almost looks like Rog is not happy about it. I think the music is a tape.

  • Umm,.. great song / vid .. Thanks- for sharing ..

  • Oh year, what's up with Crosby's freakin Cape. Who the hell does he think he is? Everyone knows the Back Street Boys were the freakin American Beatles. OK, case closed

  • Oh year, what's up with Crosby's freakin cape? Who was he; the freakin flying nun?

  • @ggchokee1

Great video. No lip synching and obviously no auto tune. You hear Gene Clark more than usual.

Corsby was the fat FUGLY kid in the band. He was not 350 lbs like he is today but they had to hide his baby fat with the cape. One of the few American bands of the era that had a good stage image and music though fat Crosby Eff'ed it up. Rog could also have lost the granny glasses plus avoided looking at the camera. The other three looked great on stage.

  • @Franzko787 Go easy pal - the guy is 69 and a Legend. what have you ever achieved except write smart arse comments anonymously on youtube????

  • @Franzko787 LOL i agree 100%

  • These guys looked like old souls even then, in their prime. They look like old men with really great hair. Did David Crosby realize he was going bald? Remember when he was wearing that fur cap at Monterey Pop Festival. I'm glad it was live and not dubbed. Sounds like what they did in the studio, they delivered live on stage. There's a lot of really young girls in the audience, like 8 or 9 year olds. Where's the parental supervsion? You bunch of SQUARES! Yeah I said it, SQUARE as a PEAR.

  • It sounds so great!

  • Nice, I was not born in that era, but I know good music when I hear it, and that too me was good music.

  • granny glasses.

  • I believe that it is not only a Bible message... in the depth- it is PEACE what many youngs looked for back in the 60's .. and we should not only keep looking but MAKING it happen! great music...

  • @katinla2010 Amen, this song's message is evergreen and prob will be forever.

  • er, but what show, what country, when?

  • COME BACK......PLEASZ!!!!!!!!!!Why didn't the sky come down during the 60' ?And made most of us dyed happy?????

  • dig those groovy chicks at 50 - too cool - wish that was me

  • AS GOOD AS IT EVER WAS!!!!!!!!

  • the vocals sound terrible they sound like their stoned out of their mind on god knows what and gene clark's vocal delivery could have been a little smoother so you could tell they still needed some improvement as far as singing onstage .

  • ....a true motivational and inspirational song...I loved it when i heard it first time...and will always....!

  • @AsharGreens

david crosby was still an unknown entity with this song!

  • michael clarke and chris hillman wut a great foundation so underated....RIP MICHAEL !

  • @panzerson2

david crosby of CS&N was an unknown entity yet !!!

  • So great to hear it live - and Gene Clark was so handsome.

  • @stellagranos72 lol WAS so handsome

  • Things began to break loose with music following Turn Turn Turn. By 1967, the world had changed.

  • @DrBarnes your right by the time 1967 came thats when the revolution began. Tons of LSD and herione came, psychedelic rock came,Woodstock and hippies came. Rock and roll from the 50s-1966 was changed into psychedelia.

  • @DrBarnes1 1962 to 1967 = biggest transformation in the 20th century. Not sayng all for the good, either

  • @mrtamberineman123 at 2:11 it was just the bass and guitar together in one note

  • Can I ask a universally dumb question? Which one is McGuinn and which one McGuire and the Drummer and other Rhythym guitarist? I think I've spotted only David Crosby accurately being from a later generation...Dan O'Niallain, Grafton, Mass.

  • Hi, oniallain1965 --- there are no dumb questions, only dumb answers, so I'll try not to make this one of the latter LOL! In this, the "classic" incarnation of the Byrds, they are (left-to-right): Chris Hillman (bass guitar), David Crosby (rhythm guitar and vocals), Michael Clarke (drum kit), Gene Clark (no "e", and no relation to Michael, tambourine and vocals), and Roger McGuinn (twelve-string Rickenbacker guitar and vocals)

  • Yeah , pls turn back time !

  • God almighty! What a great take! Yeah lots of Gene but even though this song was probably McGuinn's idea (being a Pete Seeger protege') I've always thought it was a vehicle for Gene Clark. The woman during Roger's solo (at 2:30) is dream from the time.Great sound for TV at the time. This band is all live-no prerecords no lip-synchs. Send this one out to the stars please!!!!!!!! 93

  • Yeah and the douches didn't even use a separate mix?! When we did rock shows in highschool we'd set up two systems separately with the same equipment lol also the vox have issues bc they're singging over a loud guitar--of course it is quite possible the stereo in the original footage is shot, pretty much any of those

  • the technology didnt exist at the time boy, and the "douches" are alot bigger than you'll ever be

  • @hoppuss44

ok I guess you don't get it so I'll try it again. By setting up two Public Address Systems I mean setting up a quad through two seperate mixers and essentially wrapping both mics together. this was done in outdoor concerts for both stage and audeince mix, which is why in one of those festivals mcjagger has two mics

  • Did Roger or David just break a BIG FART at 2:11?

  • no, somehow singers moving makes ppl pay attention to the solo --which unfortunately in this case is pretty much the melody

  • Wow, Gene Clark was really loud on this version. Can't really make out Crosby's harmonies. an Hillman doesn have a mic! What was up with Crosby's cape? Still great stuff though.

  • are u familiar in the bible ecclessiastes verse 1-15.. "theres a reason for everything.. a time to be born a to die....................."

  • 0:45....priceless. XD

  • love them kids

  • I have to agree with Byrds1967. I was a kid back then, but until this moment, I had never seen this. Geez, I love this technology.

  • I may be young, but I know my good music!!!!!!! This is a really great performance and I enjoyed watching it!! :D

    -Abby

  • El de la esclavina no es de Los Brincos?

  • Thanks for posting this one. I've never seen this performance.
