  • By the way you are your own design team you create and showcase your creativity here on youtube you have your own channel and share your projects and techniques. im guessing to help people to see things differently. ;)

  • LOL I ran out of characters. Anyway I ALSO get inspired by ladies obviously that arent on any design teams. Thats why I come here to youtube, to watch the talent and to connect with people that are just like me. ;)

  • I dont know.... i try very hard to be inspiring and unique and try to put out there designs and inspiration for people that want to be inspired. I think thats what most of the design team members go for. I know I have been super inspired by many a design team member from many company's if there werent design teams, there wouldnt be a prima blog, a Graphic 45 blog, there wouldnt be any magazines with inspiration to look at. Just my little opinion ;) Its hard work being on a design team.

  • Hi sweety, i agree with your comments. In my opinion it is free advertising for the company who provide these 'design team' members with their products. We need to see more vids on how they created the project. I get soooo bored of the same things over and over again! INSPIRATION is what i need! lol x

  • I think Jen from looking at the amount of comment responses you've hit on a great topic and inspired some really good food for thought! Good for you for voicing your opinions. Patti

  • I happen to also looove some of the freestyle ladies out there and I always look forward to their vids. Some of their stuff makes my jaw drop and say how did they come up with that and I'll just say it my fave is the Big F from across the pond...:). I just think there is room for all even those that (and these I don't watch) develop a following and then just make vids plugging their store...hey, all this craft stuff has to be payed for somehow :), money is tight these days..

  • Some of the DT members still make tutorial vids, those are always great. I could never design around someone elses parameters (as soon as someone asks me for something with green on it , I develop an intense dislike for green) but I can appreciate when someone else does it. I always freestyle craft, I just happen to like alot of the stuff available out there and I buy what I like when I can afford to and its nice to see how others use it.

  • Weelll. since you asked.. :) I happen to like most of the DT videos, usually the one that feature products I have. Now some of the stuff I could not make if I didn't substitute since I can't afford to use up a whole bag of flowers or a whole bottle of paint on one project but they do provide an inspirational springboard for me and I make do with what I have. Sometimes they do get a bit boring, especially when they just go on and on about the product instead of how they used the product.

  • Part Three - ... Lastly people already have the products I represent and they are looking for ways to use them, I think being able to go and look at a DT video is a great service that is provided, I had these items in my stash a full year before I started using them because I didnt know how, wish there was a DT back then when I needed it. And I can also tell you the DT members I work with are TOP NOTCH and I am honored to be able to work with them.

  • Part Two - ....perhaps they used a piece of trim a certain way. I think often people have tunnel vision and think "i have to make this exactly with the exact same products" which is not the case, I think you can look at something and make it your own in your own unique way. I spend a lot of time creating projects that can be easily translateable to other products someone may have already, are easy to make and appealing. I make no apologies for any of my videos whatsoever.

  • Part One - I am confused about your comment about rules and regulations as well. The design teams I am on I have complete creative freedom. If anything - I have stepped out of my box and have created projects that I would not have otherwise. The product we use is meant to inspire - I get inspired from all videos, while i may not have a specific product the person used on their project - I may still get inspiration in the form of a color they used, they way they laid out the embellishments...

  • Well I'm on several DT's and I haven't come across on any rules/regulations that you are mentioning. I just try to show the products in my projects to the best of my crafting ability. Yes I tell you the products and numbers of items that I've used, for those who want to recreate my project. Being on a design team does not in any way hinder my creativity at all. I put out a craft project and hope to inspire people. If people don't want to watch my videos because I am on a DT then oh well i guess.

  • @paperdrama Yes Jo I know you are on several design teams and I will always find your work very inspiring and I watch every single one of your vids without fail lol. I just finished watching Nancy get her Paris box from you. OMG Jo what an amazing creation, beautiful does not describe it enough. I, personally would not have thought of altering that box. You go girl!!!

    Hugs

    Michelle

  • @bohemiangypsy99 Thanks Michelle. I had so much fun making that box and banner for Nancy!

  • @paperdrama OMG Jo I forgot about the banner. It was stunning, absolutely stunning. As a matter of fact I don't think you have ever made anything that I didn't like Jo *grins*. Very talented gal is you!!

    Hugs

    Michelle

  • Ramble away girl........I am very confused too :) I just enjoy making my videos! I put out some videos for Doreen and Patti but their things are very unique. Anywho, I just want to be inspired and watch YT the way I used to. Just a girl in her craft room.......

    Hugs

  • I so agree with your idea of creativity without boundaries or rules. Not everyone has a craft room not everyone can buy the latest this or that. To have a DT that would create with what they have and not the latest die or latest papers etc., would be refreshing in my opinion. You brought up a great discussion topic Jen,#

    TFS!

    Hugs

    Tracy x

  • I so agree crafting should be something shared and loved by all, with out restrictions. I once applied for a DT and that in it's self was hard for me, I was fearful to share my work with everyone afraid it wasn't good enough! I didn't make the team but I was extreamly proud of what I did make. To me and this is only my opion, it just seems like all the same people are on all the teams it doesn't leave room for the rest of the crafters out there!! Thanks so much for what you do. Hugs, Tammy

  • DT....hmmm To me they are people who sell a product. Thats it. I only watch a few DT,s so I dont see all these Tags everywhere..LOL....or the same ideas with the same products. I like to know what is new out-there...and where to get them...thanks DT's Once I get the product, I can watch a thousand different videos on using them.

  • I agree with everything you have said, and I just watched Fiona' Video and am looking forward to that. I just think sometimes the Product advertising overides the creativity. I mean, yes I it's great to share if you think a certain product is great but to have all the order numbers said in the video and this and that, while looking at what they made, and not be told how they made it makes me nuts! By the way what paper is that your showing in the vid, love it~GIN

  • It really has come down to ADVERTISING and quite frankly I can turn tv on for that. It has gotten to the point when I see a company name in a vid I just dont watch it anymore. I used to come here because there were so many tutorials and ideas and those have become less and less......even those who first shared their ideas are now SELLING them. I get it, I mean make money where you can but sheesh, I want the YT I knew when I signed up over a couple years ago. off my box now! lol

    *gina*

  • @Scrappinology Me too Gina!!! When you find that old YT, let us know okay!!?? Have a beautiful weekend!

    Brigitte :)

  • @Scrappinology Well said. I find that I often don't look at the vid if I know it's from such-and-such a company. I get insulted somewhat when I feel as though someone is trying to "hook" me. I don't come to YT to see commercials all the time. I haven't been papercrafting long at all, and I can see a vast change in the pushing of products already. It saddens me.

  • @Scrappinology I totally agree with you Gina. I originally came on here for all the wonderful tutorials and yes now some of them are selling their ideas, and yes I agree if you can make some dosh then fabulous but that would not stop me from doing tutorials because that is your grass roots stuff if you know what I am trying to say lol. Okay stepped off my soap box again sheesh!!! I am gonna get dizzy getting on and off lol.

    Hugs

    Michelle

  • Jen, I totally agree. I would love to see many different items created with a common theme or paper line, etc. And, not all of us have those specific products or can even afford them. Sharing ideas, directions, etc...is a fun way for us to use what we have, adapt project ideas to suit our needs or product availability. Thank you for saying what many were thinking. Bridget

  • I agree! Design Teams - restrictions - copywrites in scrapbooking? Don't copy my stuff.....I thought that was what scrapbooking was for....scraplifting. I'm not very good with restrictions either. Thanks for sharing! Interesting to thing about.

  • I am with you, they all seem to create the same thing, what is the point of that, it would be so much more inspiring to seem a myriad of different projects using the same products. If you want to particpate in challenges and use your creativity there are many, many challenge blogs out there, not on YT though. Thanks for having the courage to say what you think, I admire that. Suzanne x

  • @justlovestamping Suzanne, thank you for responding and for your support. I appreciate it! Could you point me in the direction of some of these other places please?? Thank You!

  • I Un-Subscribed to YouTube and DT members who push these expensive flowers, sprays, stains, etc., because now they do things only to SELL and not create. Even without DT members, I still don't care to watch their videos anymore.

They get free stuff and are literally on the "Payroll". Also, I hate when they say how quickly they get things from Thailand. Of course the company will zip the things to THEM!! They've lost their way and creativity. Thanks for bringing it up.

  • @MeriScrapper13 LOL! I'd never even thought of the mailing time! You have a point! Thanks for responding, I appreciate the feedback!

  • Good point! Everyone (companies etc) with design teams or not are aming to sell their product/service and use YouTube as a means to advertise. Personally I don't watch them at all... because I want to use my own imagination. I have no problems with direct product advertising because I know what to expect. TFS

  • @Mabu14 I guess if product didn't sell, they wouldn't do it anymore. Having said that, there have been some products I've purchased after seeing them used in different ways; however, never have I bought them because of a design team's efforts to sell them. I do applaud the efforts and creative genius of these talented women, but I don't see why they have to have parameters around their creations.

Thanks for responding, I appreciate it!

  • What an interesting point you have brought up Miss Jen-Jen! I totally agree with you & I too skip some of those videos. I really like the idea of just create a project & share it without any limitations. You Go Girl!

    HUggs,

    Gale The Happy Stamper :)

  • @galecrafts {*~{*~{*~Gale!! ~*}~*}~*} I knew you were one of my soul sisters!!

I'm sending every positive wave I can muster in your direction. Hugs to you and yours.

    ~*Mwah!!*~

  • @candledamachine

Hey there girlie, We are soul sista's!!! Crazy time right now, but heading back on Monday... Thanks for all the prayers, I appreciate it, really I do!

    Big huggs back at ya',

    Gale :)

  • PLEASE watch out for my next video, I am making one about design teams and what of them are out there for! I was keeping something under wraps until I returned to the uk :), but after seeing your video now, I feel I should make my vid a.s.a.p. lol lol. Your right in what you say and when you see my vid you will see what a design team should be about. TFS Hugs Fi xxx

  • @Jennings644 Not the products the owners are selling or the shop it came from :( Keep watching for the video, its uploading shortly :) xxx

  • @Jennings644 I'm going to go find it right now! Thanks for responding! (I got your package and I made a video, but um... I'm silly and held the camera sideways. . . soooo..... I'll have to redo it. LOL!) Thank You!

  • @candledamachine Hi Jen, its didn't load just yet will do it again in the morning, been at the beach all day today so I have several things to load tomorrow!! It will be interesting to see and I hope you comment on it too :) Folk with certain design teams are doing it to promote their OWN shop and the things they buy in from wholesalers to sell on for profit. The DT's get freebies and that's what perks their interest because they get something out of being a DT. Some have rules to follow....

  • @Jennings644 Cont.... some can only make what their told to make! When the vids are made, most items are already made up and therefore potential customers for the DT owner never get to see how an item was made. Although the item has been created, the crafting side and the teaching side has gone by the wayside unfortunately :( xxx

  • I understand both sides like to be on a DT but when I get tierd of it I stop for a while just to be able to do what I want to do.

  • You are EXACTLY right, Jen. DT's can be boring and stuffy....and I am NOT knocking anyone or your work, either......HOWEVER.......HANG ON, Ladies:):):) NEW, BEAUTIFUL items coming soon and the DT for a BRAND NEW COMPANY will be TOTALLY DIFFERENT........NOTHING like this new company or NO DT'S out there like this new one......stay tuned for some BEAUTIFUL, EXCITING NEW PRODUCTS..........peaked your interest yet??????

  • @CricketsDaughter1 Hmmmm!! It is piqued, indeed!! :O)

  • @candledamachine Coming soon.....to a computer near you....hahahaha. DOESN'T the wait and suspense just KILL YA????? Such a tease........BEAUTIFUL NEW PRODUCTS....many new faces and NO STIFF DESIGN TEAMS here......just some gals who LOVE to CREATE projects and teach new techniques........

  • @CricketsDaughter1 Intriguing! I am wondering...........

Can't wait to see, or hear :)

  • @jannaviles That's what I'm sayin', sistah! If you hand everyone a pad of paper and say, make a tag - you get a bunch of tags. If you hand them a pad of paper and say - go forth and create, you wind up with cards, tags, decoupaged things, canvasses, gift holders, boxes, various containers, and a bunch of other things. Options! It's ALL about options!

    Thanks for responding! Hugs n'Squishes!

  • I like to get ideas on how to use different things, but I totally agree that DT members shouldn't be limited to making one type of project. If there's something new out, I'd like to see a lot of different ideas of how to use it. The other challenges I like are the ones where you're limited to a certain number of products that you can use. We can all make things w/ a lot of stuff...but it's more interesting to see what we can make out of only a few things. TFS your thoughts! Heather

  • @ThePaperCastle Thanks so much for responding! I like the "less is more" idea! That's awesome! Hugs n'Squishes!

  • @kandi7rivera Thanks for responding! Let me know how it was received by the purveyors if you think about it. :O) Hugs n'Squishes!

  • Thanks ladies for your input. I appreciate the varying viewpoints! I especially love how we can all have different opinions and still be agreeable with each other. *beams with pride*

  • I think companies are trying to sell their product, and the more exposure they have, the more they can sell. Many of the girls on YT have hundreds of subscribers so you figure, all the people who watch their vids are potential customers. They get advertising, for free, except for the cost of the free products they send out.Sometimes its hard for people to visualize how to use a product.A sample may make them buy.Plus if the DT member uses and loves the product anyway, why not help promote it.

  • @beckwhitty Thanks for responding! I'm all for promoting a product, I guess I just don't understand the reasoning behind the entire design team having to create the same thing. Jannaviles said it best- I want options! :O) Hugs n'Squishes!

  • Hi Jen, I wholeheartedly agree actually. Most of the YT design teams are all the same group of people anyway so we are not seeing anything new at all in my opinion. I don't even watch them anymore because they bore me and there are so many of them now. Okay stepping off my soapbox.

    Hugs

    Michelle

  • @bohemiangypsy99 Hey Michelle! I haven't seen you around much lately, but maybe that has more to do with me not being around much lately! I think we're thinking similarly. I LOVE the idea of a Design Team, I think it could be a brilliant springboard to sell product - but only if the team members are free to create things in *their* styles and what they want to create. Thanks for responding! Hugs & Squishes!

  • @candledamachine No chick it is about neither of us being around lately hehehehe. Lots of serious family issues for me with my 23 yr old daughter which we are slowly working through. You have opened Pandora's Box here woman!!! WOW there are some great comments.

Hugs and Aquishes right back at ya Jen.

    Michelle

  • I think the owners of the etsy stores should just share their products and that is it. It is the product that sells and not how a DT member uses the product. The store owner would not have to give out so many free sample just to have things made with the product. I do not buy a product based on how someone used it, I buy based on what the product itself looks like. Sites that have challenges without having to use a specific product alilscrapofheaven.ning.com & creatingacraftylife.ning.com

  • @suralear1 Thanks so much for responding! I'll have to check out the creatingacraftylife site. I'm a member of ALSoH, but spend more time here than there. *sigh* There's only so much time in a day. Thanks for the tip! Hugs n'Squishes!

  • Amen sister! What happend to creative freedom? I'm not jralous because i happen to be on a design team (off YT) but i feel the same Jen! Thx for pointing this out! :)

  • @punkynpunkin Hey Tori! Thanks for responding! I'm all about freedom in crafting- it's where NEW ideas come from! Hugs n'Squishes!
