  • Oh - my - god ... I've played this SOO much back in the 90's on my PS1 .. And I'm born in 92 :D

  • "Woah! That was a great counter! You must be one genius of a driver. You got to teach me!" MAN this dude was epic.

  • This actually doesn't look far from a Dreamcast game

  • Apart from having higher resolution and better frame rate there are also some other minor differences compared to the PSX version. Notice the car technician running away from the yellow car during the countdown and in the PSX version the ad boards have commercials for other NAMCO games.

  • same car sounds like Granturismo 5 !

  • it's smoother, better res, and the road has more detail than the playstation version.. Still loved the ps version though. Much better than daytona on the saturn

  • i want the emulator along with street fighter 1 & robocop shinobi double dragon splatter house i could go on

  • This game brings back memories

  • Whoaaa....played this when I was just eight years old. I wished I can run over that girl in the beginning like Road Rash, hahah

  • It didn't look nearly as good on the Playstation, still a great game though.

  • I actually prefer the ps1 version

  • このコースは懐かしの、グリーンフィールドですか・・?

  • @TheEvansann そうではありません

  • wow, didnt know the arcade version was so much better than the ps1 version

  • I just bought this for the 3DS.

  • Its ridge racer! RRIDGE RACER!! xD

  • I played this game at a place called Good Times in the Boston area back in the day. It was a full sit down setup and I must have put $500 into this machine over a summer. Was the best game to power slide with at the time. Ahhh to be young....

  • right...this is what i want right...an arcade perfect version of this and the 1st one plus a HD polished version of type 4 and ps1 rage racer with exactly the same physics, sound and artstyle on one disc for ps3/xbox ect for 19:99 or something..this is all i am requesting namcoin, peace

  • right...this is what i want right...an arcade perfect version of this and the 1st one plus a HD polished version of type 4 and ps1 rage racer with exactly the same physics, sound and artstyle on one disc for ps3/xbox ect for 19:99 or something..this is all i am requesting namcoinz, peace

  • well, this video's settled my own, long running battle as to knowing the playstation version wasn't arcade perfect! Lol Still, loved the PS version though :)

  • Seeing that Aladdin's Castle billboard just filled my heart with nostalgia. I spent a great deal of my childhood in that place. : p

  • I tore this game up in the arcade!

  • I tore this game up in the acrade!

  • In 1993 this must have been amazingggggg

  • awesome game, but Daytona USA was released first, had the better handling and the graphics didn't even push the Model 2A board to the limit. ;)

  • on 93' that 3d :OOOOOOOOO? WOW!

  • wow, the arcade version has an excelent drift system, compare to the PSX version was a little bad

  • PLEASE!!! WHERE CAN I DOWNLOAD THE ARCADE VERSION OF THIS VIDEOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • awesome graphics at this time... i remember playing this very long one summer with an old childhood mate... my mother couldnt get me off the screen :D

  • Ridge Racer or Daytona USA? This is the question.

  • played this back in 1993 at weston supermare pier on a school trip! i spent most of my trip money playing this game

at the time the best thing driving game i played was super mario kart so when i saw this i was like OMG!

  • Can you change the camera in the arcade? If yes how? I tried every button on my keyboard with no luck

  • @Imgema No.

  • When I saw this in the arcade in 93 I fell in love with games.

My first ever job, I spent my entire weeks pay in a single day getting good at it.

Man ridge racer owned me so hard.

  • i got the demo of this game from ridger racer type 4, i love the arcade-like graphics on this game and the brilliant music! this game is one of my favourite racing games!

  • There was an arcade version?! How the hell did i miss that?! >:( Ugh! Me and my stupidity! Lol.

  • super games magnifico ...

  • still looks great

  • At Weymouth College in 1995 - the amount of time and money we spent on this is something I don't even want to think about lol

  • always preferred the gameplay of ridge racer to daytona but there's something ridge racer is missing: DAYTONAAAAAAAAAAAA

  • bit they have : Ridge RACERRRRR!!!!!

  • How do you know that? The differences are visible. but where you see it?

  • i first played this game on ps1 and i found ridge racer 2 in the arcade then i was about 7 or 8 years old.

  • It's Ridge Racer... RIIIIIIDGE RACER!!!

  • This actually works with Vivanonno? Wow, I might give it a shot!

  • Some emulation bugs though...

  • My Ridge racer disc are full of scrathes, but it still works fine:)

  • love the techno at the end !!

  • My alltime favorite racing game. I remember on that hairpin turn I was the only one at the arcade who could make my car do a complkete 360 and still stay composed.

  • The System 22 Arcade version is much smoother because it's 60 FPS (1994 PS1 ver is 30 FPS) has much greater polygon detail, has higher- resolution & higher-color texture-mapping and runs in a higher screen resolution (640 x 480) than the PS1 version (320 x 240).

The 1998 PS1 Ridge Racer High Spec (Ridge Racer Turbo Mode in the U.S.) demo included with RR4 brings back much of the quality of the arcade version, although still not all the way.

  • It's not until you see the arcade version in action that you notice that the Playstation version lacks alot in graphics and smoothness.

  • is this on viva nonno because it works perfect on mine nd they said it wasnt supported

  • Love the music

  • That announcer always reminded me of the guy who sang in the B-52s!

"So, hurry up! And bring your ar-cade money!"

  • It's Ridge Racer

  • お姉さんあぶない!!!

  • :04 - :07

    fastest minute of my life

  • Virtua Racer was the big leap, but Ridge Racer & Daytona USA took it a step further. At the time those two racers were the pinnacle of arcade racing games! When it came time to buy Saturn or Playstation. Playstation won because Ridge Racer looked closer to the arcade than Daytona USA did on Saturn.

  • ITS RIIIIIIDGE RAACEEERRRRRRRRRR

  • THIS IS JUST WHAT I WANTED TO SEE!

  • The first proper 3d racing game!

  • great music i got everything on thalia say music on you uh yeah the greatest

  • ok here your 2nd music keep going

  • 0:52 Yellow Xevious??? That never appeared on the PS version! >:(

  • But if you watch the video carefully, you will see that there's no Green Xevious, so the green one is a replacement for the yellow one.

  • I've already noticed it! ;)

  • In my copy, Yellow and Green Xevious both appeared in PS1.

  • Yellow? The Xevious cars were red and green. The two Solvalou were blue and yellow. Maybe you're getting them mixed up...?

  • Oh, yeah, sorry. They both look almost the same, so...

  • wait a minut its seaside route!!!!!!

WELL i mean the one after seaside route

but this is great RIDGE RACER arcade version, i want to try the arcade version

  • soo good memories........

  • well ridge racer is a wicked game better than the crap there making these day story mode ect.. its all graphics i tuned my pc into a aracade machine with ridge racer of course pc games too long boring great video and great game my fav racing game played the p3 version not the same

  • @shaunny1973 People said the same about Ridge Racer in 1993 who liked 2D games.

  • This is just what I wanted to see! You're the Greatest!

  • Everlasting theme, everlasting game!

  • AMEN!

  • the graphics look better than the console ports

  • Does anyone kno where i can get Ridge Racer 1 for the PS1 if u do tell me i need to play that game and race in the levels backwards i cant remember wat happens after u baet all the levels backwards

  • Yay, got it working! First dl "rr1.zip" from some website, just search for it. rr1.zip will give you corrupt graphics, but it does work. To fix the graphics dl "ridgeraj.zip" (search for it) and extract it into rr1 overwriting the files there. Now play away.

Tips, blurred textures are fixed by setting graphics to "no reduce" and DXT1. If you dont set DXT1 the game runs very very slowly, I first thought it had crashed.

    Best of luck.

  • it's funny looking at the old 3d after being so used to the way things look now. It's painful after crysis came out. Ridge Racer was never the same ;(

  • the guy doing the voice over sounds very camp. where are all the cars?

  • Vivanonno Namco System 22 website emulator says ridge racer is currently unsupported. HOw did you run this

  • Ridge Racer graphics in 1993 was state of the art for arcades, but probably concidered low-end by Evans & Sutherland standards for workstations at the time.

The Sony PlayStation of 1994 / 1995 was significantly LESS powerful in graphics, having only about 1/4 (one quarter) the graphical performance of System22.

  • @turbografx Thats not true. You should see some of the early games Namco released for it. Like Star Blade and Cyber Sled. They were much better-looking than their arcade versions.

  • @turbografx keep that in mind, for the PSX, Racing games in 60fps was not possible

  • @turbografx and it wasn't enough to run Ridge Racer 2 and Rave Racer (but those were built on new boards), leading to Ridge Racer Revolution as a solution for PS1.

  • @turbografx But the PS1 was also about 20 times cheaper then Ridge Racer.

  • @turbografx

Well, for those of us who switched from the SNES to PS1 Ridge Racer, it was an absolutely phenomenal experience. I'm not seeing much difference here from either version. Man what a great game for the time! This music rocks too.

  • These graphics are incredible for 1993! They must be the best 3d graphics for the time!

  • Yes. Although Namco made the Ridge Racer game, the graphics technology on the System22 arcade board was done with the help pf Evans & Sutherland, the company that basicly invented realtime computer graphics in the 1960s & 1970s.

  • The only company to rival E&S in graphics all those years ago was General Electric Aerospace, they worked on the graphics for the Apollo Moon Lander simulator. Much later, helped SEGA make the MODEL 1 board, then, under Martin Marietta, the MODEL 2 board that powered Daytona USA, then under Lockheed Martin's Real3D division, the MODEL 3 board. The first E&S and GE Aerospace graphics systems pre-date Silicon Graphics!

  • @supadupakoopa Not so sure about that, they certainly were good, but Daytona graphics were every bit as good in 93 when it was FIRST released without it's network mode, and the gameplay, handling, and sound were quite alot better on Daytona. But this was and still is a good game none the less.

  • Woo! That was a great counter! You must be one genius of a driver! You gotta teach me!

  • 'next corners tough, watch yourself'

  • The last time I checked the original Ridge Racer crashed Vivanonno. I must have missed something.

  • It works for me, but i get crc errors and the textures are FUBAR, unlike in this video :/

Also the emulator's homepage says it's not supported at all...

  • It works perfect for me, couple of GFX errors and blurred textures, but runs at full speed, 95% of textures are spot on, and no errors what so ever. Are you using the correct romset? And if it is, is it complete? Try a re-download if it is not complete or damaged.

  • r yess now i can run this 93 classic original

  • since nobody said it, i might as well: It's ridge racer. RIIIIIDGE RACEEEER!!

  • These graphics are amazing for 1993!

  • I've noticed that the RR games all had top of the line graphics for their day.

  • Use digital controllers not is the best for this Arcade... (but work!)

  • This game isn't terrible, but I do like Daytona better.

  • Thats true, i loved this game, it wasnt a patch on Daytona, but it was still a great game in its own right.

  • Man ... that announcer is straight (or rather gay) from hell. Is it just me or is he really, really annoying?

  • just wait until you try to enter the mirror mode. he ends up sounding like Jim Carrey as Ace Ventura.

  • oi man no insulting of countries k!!!

  • where u get the full romset?

  • I found them on "Romshare" some years ago.

  • @skeleton081983 so did you get this for pc or are you actually playing it on an arcade machine
