Shit, people, put yourselves in the chick's shoes. I know she's the villain and all, but in this movie she was really just the wrong guest at the wrong party since the girls needed her out of the picture. She tried to be nice and talk to Mitch's daughter about the situation and she was kind and sensitive, till she saw how the girl was being. Why's everyone hatin' on Mitch for not defending the girls? I think a MAN should defend his WOMAN. Instead he says "They didn't do anything to you!" Right!
@michellica1983 I understand what you mean...but you're overlooking the fact that the real Vicki was revealed in short order. She was controlling, manipulative, devious and given the fact that she slapped one of the twins...ABUSIVE! But hey...it's just a movie right?
@mikkijeanee08 Yeah, I just notice that people kind of jump on board and feel what a movie WANTS them to feel about a character and they don't really take a step back to analyze it for themselves. And I think this is a major reason why the remake of The Parent Trap with Lindsay Lohan gives the stepmother a sincerely sinister streak, pulling out all the stops.
@michellica1983 I agree. I feel that Vicky's the subtler villain of the two. She seems nice enough at the beginning, if a little spoiled, but little by little the layers are peeled back to reveal a rather awful woman. In the remake, it's pretty clear from the beginning that she's going to be the antagonist. I thought Elaine Hendrix did a great job with Meredith, but she was written too over the top. Vicky is a bit more complicated.
OMG Vicki slapped one of his daughters and Mitch dint do nething???? How is that possible?? Sorry but i dint like Mitch from the beginning.... not very fatherly!
@funnygalfiona It was the 60s and men were required to behave every part the gentlemen, which meant he couldn't slight a lady and he'd become an absolute sleaze. To even put that in a movie would be quite scandalous and upsetting especially because it's under the Disney name. Women were okay to hit other women or men though, apparently it would be seen as empowering or villanous to the respective role and these rules are still generaly followed today. Besides, the girls deserved it a little.
@TerrasAngelsDemon It's still child abuse. She had no right to hit someone else's child so to say "It was the 60s" has got nothing to do with it. Even back then they knew it was wrong. I assume it's because Vicky was really manipulative over Mitch was is a bad sign.
One of my favorite scenes was when Sharon & Susan put honey all over Vicky and they didn't do that in the re-make very disappointed haha! I love the Maggie & Mitch scene in the end, truly meant to be. Maureen O'Hara and Brian Keith had excellent chemistry and really MADE the movie in my opinion. Classic.
@Sam7svu its a classic no doubt but annie and hallie (the twins in the remake) did something funnier pushing meredith (the gold-digger) out into the middle of the lake
@Sam7svu i think both are funny mate but what sounds funnier surrounded by string and bear cubs licking your feet or being pushed and sent adrift into the middle of a lake and falling in aswell?
Aww Maggie should have ripped her hair out smaking her daughter, my mom would have pushed her off a cliff, she has done far worse to people who have done far less to her kids.
ya know, i do like this one better than the 1998 one, but i think Dennis Quaid and lindsy Lohan had better chemistry than hayley mills and brian keith
Man, if somebody slapped me, my daddy would beat the crap outta them!! Well, probably not if she was a woman, but he'd send her packing!!!! He'd do a lot more than mitch did!
