Im not an American, but I side with the south ideal. Not for slavery or rural trade. But for the fact that they were fighting because the north wished to impose on or dispose of the rights, freedoms and laws instituted in all southern states. Most historians believe lincoln did this to severely wound the economic capabilities of the south by making the slaves abandon the plantations/ to boost military numbers since pre emancipation the majority of blacks fought for the confederate army- both free and slave.

Thousands of southern slaves joined up with the Union as soon as the Union liberated their area. Lincoln made the emancipation proclamation to keep the Brits and French out of the war.

I am a history major and this is just one of my theories: If slavery was allowed to die on its own and not abolished by a foreign power (to the southern states, the north was a foreign occupier) then much of the problems faced post civil war - 60's wouldn't have happened. Thats just a theory, but from my research it seems like a correct one.

Slavery really didn't end until sharecropping did. After the war, former slaves still worked on the plantations for no payment - just for food and shelter. As they did when slaves.

The 10th Amendment to the US Constitution states that 'The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.' Basically, what this amendment is saying is that all rights not surrendered by the states still belong to them. Secession is not mentioned in the Constitution, thus, the States return it.

Lee in his letter said this would lead to a government that is "oppressive at home and aggressive abroad". No war no foreign occupation as you put it. the Southern plantation owners at the time were quite happy with their slaves and their way of life. Im not an American, but I side with the south ideal. Not for slavery or rural trade. But for the fact that they were fighting because the north wished to impose on or dispose of the rights, freedoms and laws instituted in all southern states. They fought for their rights, and their freedoms like any brave man does. Unlike any other war in US history, all these men were fighting in THEIR fields and THEIR homes. And its that which justifies the Civil War more than anything else.

@qball090872 Yep. Slavery was a dying institution anyway. It died in over 2 dozen western countries in the 19th century. Had the South gained its independence, Washington would not have been able to centralize all power, would have had to govern much more by consent rather than force lest more states secede, couldn't have levied huge taxes and doled out public money to fatcat industrialists, and could not have been nearly as aggressive abroad. All of that sounds good to me.

@pmjvlad Slavery was an issue for the several republics that made up the UNION. The argument is not about slavery, but who controlled the people. It was about who paid taxes and who got the money. Internal improvements up north on the back of the South. Slavery was doomed to die. Grant said, if I learn the federal army is being used for anything but to restore the union I will surrender my sword to the other side. Read it for yourself. So its DEAD now? How about letting us go this time.

@robertiacomacci I agree. Like today, slavery was used as an excuse to go to war with the Southern states to stop the Union from breaking up. There always has to be a scapegoat and the blacks were used in the civil war as a reason to fight for the rights of man, just under 100 years after the founding fathers signed a declaration of independence stating that ALL MEN ARE EQUAL! The civil war was definitely about control, influence and POWER.

@se1muscle Slaves were not a scape goat ever, the war had nothing to with freeing them until the emancipation proclamation. Most historians believe lincoln did this to severely wound the economic capabilities of the south by making the slaves abandon the plantations/ to boost military numbers since pre emancipation the majority of blacks fought for the confederate army- both free and slave.

@Pooternackle I agree with you the Civil war was fought over secession and secession was declared in order to keep slavery. Most of the blacks fought for the Confederate army - Prove it. Thousands of southern slaves joined up with the Union as soon as the Union liberated their area. Also most Slaves that joined the CSA were nothing more that servants to the whites and never had a gun in their hand. Lincoln made the emancipation proclamation to keep the Brits and French out of the war.

@686204 Slavery was just one issue, it was on its way out even in the south with technological advancements in the field of agriculture. I am a history major and this is just one of my theories: If slavery was allowed to die on its own and not abolished by a foreign power (to the southern states, the north was a foreign occupier) then much of the problems faced post civil war - 60's wouldn't have happened. Thats just a theory, but from my research it seems like a correct one.

If the war never occurred more time would have been invested into technological advancements instead of reconstruction. But, I'm not saying that it would 100% happen that way. Its just a theory i have.
Slavery really didn't end until sharecropping did. After the war, former slaves still worked on the plantations for no payment - just for food and shelter. As they did when slaves.

The 10th Amendment to the US Constitution states that 'The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.' Basically, what this amendment is saying is that all rights not surrendered by the states still belong to them. Secession is not mentioned in the Constitution, thus, the States return it.

But since Confederates fire at Sumter, calling for an act of war, lost the war and had to pay the price like any war, in this case unification.However, in the Civil War there is no justification. The Constitution prohibits the use of American armed forces on American soil, yet the military was used to kill Americans.

Lee in his letter said this would lead to a government that is "oppressive at home and aggressive abroad". Now Washington sticks its nose in every state's business, we have enormous debts we might never be able to repay and troops in over 100 countries. Lincoln and the Radical Republicans did enormous harm by centralizing all power in Washington.

No war no foreign occupation as you put it. the Southern plantation owners at the time were quite happy with their slaves and their way of life. The map in the video is incorrect. Missouri, Kentucky, Delaware, and Maryland did not secede from the Union. And West Virginia broke away to stay in the U.S. I'm surprised that, in a video championing the CSA, you would use something this inaccurate.
