Where was this kind of thinking when "great'' Britain was raping and pillaging the entire world building a colonial empire? Now Englands' monster offspring has taken it's place raping Mother Earth and literally fucking her inhabitants dry.
sorry fellas but i really hate them. so genuine for sure and thats was their disgrace, too pure, too radical, too utopic.
but in 2000 they must have finish the loved and hated pound, cause believe it or not even penny rimbaud goes to tesco shopping. the reality is horrible i know.
fucking brilliant 2012 might b the last year but at least im spending it listening to real music like subhumans and crass not this corporate bullshit that runs the airways these days
I was into crass from 79,and saw them in 84(?) In liverpool .I think now they are naive and their idealism, stayed in one place. It never took into account the reality of class society. . They are realistically the punk @ anarcho monarchy. I do think their stark nature was a kick up the arse to us youth in the eighties and assisted strongly in our politicisation. Credit where credit is due. The passive 'ist' where class is concerned is comical.
Never liked the music but fair dos to Crass. Interesting doco. Penny Rimbayd is a total proper hippy - good fucking luck to him. Nice one - should have had more publicity.
i guess crass pretty much made white complaining music, comparable to the black rap...........i think 'penis envy' does it most for me, because it's more diverse and understated -- something tells me it's probably not the favorite of most punks.......funny it wasn't even mentioned in this movie except for a brief reference to 'cheating'......penny is well hung it's no wonder he was popular with the girls.....more power to him......i wonder what line of work steve ignorance is up to these days?
sometimes when u get older and listen to past things, especially punk rock, there's less there than what u remember.......with crass, and perhaps even more so than other sophisticated punk bands like the germs, i can now appreciate the quality of production (separation of guitars, great drum sound and well mixed vocals) as well as the the playful quality of the playing itself which belies the claims that people walked off the streets into the band because it's all so tight and accomplished.
Crass changed everything, once i heard them i knew what was punk. not just music but way of thinking and living. they are the best punk band ever, greatest lyrics too!
ahahaha i love Michael Bolton's soundtrack around 16 minute whilst Steve Ignorant was talking about "people for the first time had listened him as a human being". marvellous doc, thank u for uploading this, a Crass fan from Portugal
Listening to Crass as a furious teenager gave me and mine a direction for our collective outrage against the blinded juggernaut called society that we found ourselves within.
Now, as a cranky 30-something I realize that Crass embodies what I believe is true and meaningful. But, to add to my ever present crankiness, "it" is an ideal that demands constant implementation.
Could have been three hours long and I would still have watched it again...Crass stood up, were counted, were a threat and left their mark...today the angry are only angry because their Xbox has stopped playing, or MacDonalds has run out of ketchup...so safe, so cocooned, we sold ourselves and are now paying the price...
So Penny Rimbaud questions "the honesty of pacifism" and then concludes that he is "not a prostitute"??! What my point is here is the guy is a mess, like much of alternative culture, which consists of people (some of them men) thinking they 'testify' to the superiority of their aims by reverting to type, as if clutching their "balls" when talking about violence makes their rebellion more real. And afterwards bickering and pecking at each other like a load of chickens in a coop
Not sure what "privatising others sovereignty" means but reminds me of Penny Rimbaud's theory that we are responsible for our own lives, which also reminds me of Ayn Rands idea of radical self-reliance. The make-yr-own-petrol-bombs ethos of Crass is crypto-fascist. The anti-violence of the Menshivist Internationalist Trotsky, a true anarchist, saw quite clearly that a betrayal was occuring; the idea of a working class dicatorship replacing the propertied class is, put simply, a lust for power
Excellent documentary; its so true. Where are todays Steve, Penny and Gee and Eve??Hard to believe that the society which gave us Crass now makes celebrities of the likes of Simon Cowell and fucking Katie Price and puerile drivel like X-Factor; thats truly disturbing and really sad:(
@ralucagymnast I think Crass and punk were a reaction against the ghastly mainstream of that time, just as today's underground artists react against the ghastly mainstream of our time. So don't give up ;-)
@ralucagymnast Just keep your ear to the ground, man. Since I've been checking out music on the interwebs, I've discovered loads of great music of past & present.
wish i could just wander around with no clothes without feeling self obbsessed or awkward ... pennys attitude / lifestyle is f*cking great ... respect !!! ..... love Crass !
Today is the day of the royal wedding. This film has been a timely and welcome antidote to the hideous display of sycophantic outpourings across the media. Police have been using Section 60 powers to stop and search people without having to give a reason, and Facebook have allegedly been closing down pages that are allied to the current wave of protests against spending cuts. The sequence in this film that shows the royal wedding of 1981 had an unbelievably strong resonance. Thankyou.
Really good documentary. Crass is the best group of people that has come out in this lifetime, & taught a lot to a whole lot of people. Hopefully their ideas are still around in peoples mind, in the future.
Thanks for posting this here. I saw this some months back on another site and thought enough of it that I watched it three times. You did a great job with this documentary.
now more than ever, the world needs another band like crass.

I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED CRASS, WITH EXTREME PASSION,
"THE LAST SUPPER TOUR" WAS NOT CRASS.
STEVE IGNORANT, YOU WERE THE ONLY ORIGINAL CRASS MEMBER IN THAT CIRCUS.
YOU, STEVE IGNORANT SOLD OUT.......
& IT MAKES ME WEEP.
